This weeks teens magazine featured Angela Chang in Romantic Princess!!!! :D
Here's the interview.
Angela is one of the rare singer/actresses in Mandopop who as made a name for herself in both fields. As a singer, she has released five studio albums, the latest being Ang 5.0, and is lauded for her astounding vocals. As an actress, she has played a gamut of roles, from a poor high school student in love with the rich kid(MVP Valentine), a singer wannabe(Dolphin Bay), a pair of schizophrenic twins(Bump off Lover) and now a girl living out a Cinderella dream in the latest Romantic Princess.

We spoke to Angela to find out what it's like to be a princess, which prince Angela would pick to be her boyfriend and all about her latest album, Ang 5.0.

teens: Hi Angela! Tell us more about your new album, Ang 5.0!
Angela: This album will actually be totally different from my previous albums. It's called Ang5.0 because I want it to be like a computer upgrade, because on the path of being a singer, I'v one through different albums and types of music, so my hope right now is to give everyone a totally different "feel" of who I am, both in my music and my image. I hope that everyone will have a refreshing feeling when they look at me and hear my songs.

Musically, I've worked with a lot of new people, like Fan Fan, Tanya Chua, Jay Chou and other renowned producers, which has helped me expand my music repertoire. Our collaborations have produced both slow and fast tunes like I've never sung before.

You've also made a big change to your image-you chopped off your precious long locks!
Yes, I did! Well, it's basically because we wanted a totally different feel on this album, both musically and in my styling. The hair, clothes,image on this album...it's something I've never tried before. I've kept my hair for many, many years, and I could never bear to cut it. But this time, I just snipped it off at one go.

Was it heartbreaking?
Yes, of course! It took me a while to get used to it, because it's really very short!

Your latest drama Romantic Princess, has been a huge success and has scored top ratings from the very first episode. Tell us more about your role in the drama.
I play Xiao Mai, a girl who likes to daydream, and just like every other teenage girl, she dreams that becoming a princess and buying a castle. What she never expected is that one day her daydreams would actually really come true.

How similiar are you to your on-screen character in Romantic Princess?
(Thinks) Well, I think that the "never-give-up" attitude is something I share with Xiao Mai. I'm always raring to go nd ready to put my best foot forward, which is pretty much like her.

What was the toughest scene you had to shoot?
(thinks) The funny scenes were actually pretty hard to film! There were quite a few of them, and catching the comedic tempo during those scenes was more difficult. You should watch the blooper reels for the show-they are so hilarious!

Article says Angela fainted last year filming for this same ice cream company! She was unconscious for 30 minutes and when she woke up, she didn't know what had happened. They made her film in the night, outdoors and the temp was -4 degrees celsius!! Gosh, what a hard life! Anyway, this year, they filmed indoors under controlled temp and Angela only had to hold the ice-cream, she didn't need to eat it in case she felt cold! She should have sued them last year!

One of the highlights in the drama is the amazing set and props-expensive cars, huge houses, pretty dresses, etc. Did you really feel like a princess during filming?
Yes I did! With all the expensive sports cars and the big houses we filmed in, I really felt like a princess! There's a catch though-there was really no way I could truly enjoy being a princess because we were filming in really hot weather.
(Thinks) But in all honesty, I might not trulyenjoy such a life if I had to live it in reality. I believe that money can't always buy you happiness.

If you had the kind of money that Huangfu Shan had in Romantic Princess, what do you think your life would be like?
It's hard to imagine, because she's really filthy rich! In terms of material needs,(pauses) I doubt I would shop till I dropped every day. I do love shopping, but doing every single day would be..just too much.

What's the most expensive thing you've ever splurged on?
I've never really splurged on a very expensive item, becuse I'm quite a practical person. I usually only buy things if I really needed them. Hmm...I guess the most expensive thing I've ever bought would be a house, because it's something practical, something I need. The houses I've bought are for my family and me to live in.

In the show, you had to deal with four new guys in your life-the hardworking Jin, playboy Cai, playful Ling and mysterious Yin. In reality, which of these screen characters would you pick to be your boyfriend?
(Thinks hard) In real life, I'll pick someone like Jin(Wu Zun), because I can get a sense of security from such a person.

The press love to speculate about your friendships with male co-stars(Yan Xingshu in MVP Valentine and Wu Zun in Romantic Princess). Do you worry that this takes attention away from the drama?
I haven't worried about the effect the rumours have had on Romantic Princes, because the show has been airing for a period of time, and the ratings have always been pretty good. But even in the future, I'm really not too worried either. (Confidently) I believe that most people are smarter than to believe such unfounded rumours.

Why doyou think most artistes are wary of revealing their love life to the press?
Everybody's personality is different, so I can't speak for everyone else. There are high-profile personalities who are more than happy to tell the world that they're in love or in a relationship, and there are some who would prefer to keep it quiet...like me. I wouldn't announce it.

Why? Because you want to protect your partner?
(incredulously) Me protect him? Shouldn't it be the other way round? Ha ha ha! I just feel that the whole world doesn't have to know everything about my life.

You've been very successful both as an actress and a singer. But would you rather be remembered as the actress who sings, or the singer who acts?
I'd like to be remembered both ways, actually. I'm learning how to be good at both these things. But if you asked me, I think I'm better at singing, because I've been doing it for a longer time than I have acting.

The year 2007 os coming to a close...what are the three best memories you will keep of 2007?
It would definitely be the concerts that I've held this year, and my "world" tour. It's always been my dream to hold personal concerts, and I have finally done it in 2007!

What are you looking forward to in the upcoming year?
I just hope to put in 100% into each and every one of my projects, and for even more projects overseas to thank my fans for their support. Of course, I'm hoping to visit Singapore again soon... I really like the place!

I did think the outfit was weird too especially the purple skirt and yellow stockings!
But in the song, there's something about a spirit that lives in a forest?!! So maybe that's what she's dressed as. The costume is outlandish to suit the image of a forest sprite? I'm just guessing!

Angela dances Waltz on Christmas Eve, hopes to meet her 'Prince William' soon

Angela held a Christmas Party at a pub on Christmas's Eve night.
"I have visited the pub less than 10 times ever since I'm an adult." Ang expressed after dancing Waltz with her fans and singing along with them.

Angela later said that she values Christmas the most. Thus, she had to meet up with her friends and family member during this day no matter how busy she is.

She had given many presents to her co-workers for this year Christmas. Fan Fan, Fan Wei Qi, on the other hand was given an Elephant Wool Blanket by Angela as Christmas' gift. So what presents did she want to receive from her England's rumored 'Prince William'? "I hoped he can appear in front of me!" Ang expressed shyly.

Recently, Ang also had an interview with Miolife.com where she commented on her most memorable Christmas.

She said she migrated to Canada when she was just 12-year old. Thus, she was delighted when she saw white snow during Christmas's Eve. Not afraid of the cold, Ang ate a lump of snow after digging it out from the ground.
"I wanted to add some sugar after tasting it because I thought the flavor of Snow should be as tasteful as the ice I ate in Taiwan!" Angela indicated.

I bought her album, and I personally think her voice is incredible. For someone to NOT like her voice, I think that is quite rare. Her voice has so much energy, feeling, and some kind of deepness not many artists have.

Her hair in her new album isn't her actual hair. I THINK she tied her hair up and put on a wig (something like that). But I do remember on Channel V, she said her hair for her album was fake, not her real hair.
I'm sure she did cut her hair though, but I've realized her hair grows extremely fast. I remember a few years ago I looked at one of her shorter-haired pictures, and then a month later (or perhaps less), her hair was even longer.

Hi Angela! Wow, u have the same name as Angela Hee hee hee! About her hair in the album, that's her REAL hair. She really did cut it but i think sometimes they make her wear a wig, I don't know why! When she guested in 100% Entertainment, she said that her hair in front was fake. I don't know if it was the bangs or what but it sure didn't look like it though!

Her hair at the Xmas party is her original 'real' hair. As for those on the ablum cover and most promos, the stylist added 发片 i.e fake hair to the sides and fringe for volume and style. But I actually prefer her original short hair style though.

I think she dyed her hair sometime later (there was this pic I saw in the newspaper where she had highlites). On a Channel V fashion show, she said that she was wearing a wig. I guess that's one of the times when they make her wear a wig?
And I don't really think her bangs are really real. They look great on her, but one picture I saw in the newspaper had her REAL hair (at least I THINK it was), and she didn't have any bangs.
I really don't know. This whole hair situation is confusing me.

I've actually liked Angela for a some time now, ever since she got nominated for Golden Bells. The thing that really scared me away from her was her makeup level. She doesn't need all that makeup (like in Ang 5.0) to look pretty. I felt her makeup level in the "Bu Xiang Dong De" MV was perfect, there was no need to go any further. But then albums exaggerate on everything.
I love her singing the most. She's the one of the best Taiwanese singers I know that sing really well LIVE.

I remember they tried to put an EXTREMELY small hoola-hoop on her that got stuck on everybody else (I don't remember the variety show, it was like a talent show contest) and she was the only one that managed to have the hoop slide right down without touching her.

Francesca, I agree with you... the insides of FHM magazine are decidedly more innocent than I would have thought or expected... not only because of "other" pictures from other issues... but because of the cover. But then they have her with a bunch of teddy bears... err, maybe guys like pretty, doll-like girls who hold teddy bears? I don't pretend to understand these things...

BTW, I don't think it's available on YouTube yet, but I've uploaded the torrent for Angela's appearance on Chou Ri Ba Dian Dang [Jacky Go Go Go!] in the Download Section, which is accessible ONLY to AF-members and above. I haven't finished watching it yet myself, but Angela's back to do the Investigation segment SOLO (read: sans Wu Zun )

So far, the "points" are kind of mean. It's one of the "lowest" in terms of that... but I won't spoil it for you guys just now.

Oh yeah, and Angela's outfit is uber-cute and stylish in this episode. I'll have to screencap it myself later... but she's wearing the most adorable black shorts, white cool peacoat, and preppy checkered scarf.

That statement just sort of scared me (from you and from the article fransesca posted).
I don't mind the magic part, but her eyelashes being used with eye shadow.. really scared me! I like Angela with "less" makeup on. She looks much better natural than having tons of makeup/designing done on her. In the Bu Xiang Dong De MV, I thought it was perfect. Even the up-close shots sort of proved that she didn't need much makeup to be pretty.

Well, I'm still looking foward to the MV, mainly because the song is great.
