Since I helped for a couple of years in a restaurant and my interest for cooking, I can say, I can make many various chinese meals.
But looking to my brothers/sister kids or my friends, they even don't know how to cook, let stay chinese.

I'm wondering how it would be, yrs later, how many ppl knows the recipes for their own original food from this generation or the next one. Like the chinese soups are the most difficult, will these recipes forgotten with the time? Or do you prefer the food in the country which you are living now? Don't you think the asian food are more healthier?

I know how to cook and I like cooking. I was trained to cook when I was a boy, my parents were so busy on their work that they don't have time to prepare dinner for us (me and my 4 younger brothers and sisters) so I had to cook for them.

People who can cook have so much brownies points with their significant other. It's a great skill to have ... I mean nothing is more romantic than cooking a meal for your S.O. But unfortunately, I can't cook a thing. I even burn water boiling it -- sad, I know.

I guess my gf is just gonna have to cook. Or I suppose I could learn and we could eat crappy food for a few months after we moved in together or married. hahaha

jube123
I think all girls should know how to cook, because you definitely count on the guy cooking. I can cook and it is edible. Maybe it doesn't taste the best, but it is good enough. Trial and error and maybe a few trips to the washroom and anyone can learn.

i'm not sure whether i could say asian food is healthier. *shrugs* some are really unhealthy, too much oil...
for me, i could not really cook well, just simple one would do... hahah like egg, rice, vegetables and maybe fish. But the easiest should be instant mee XD
well... my mum doesnt really allow me to cook, fear i will blow up the kitchen tongue.gif
nssoso
i'm chinese and the only things i can cook are noodles and rice!!! the fact dat it's my grandma and my mum dat cook at home so i can't!! but now dat i don't live with them now because of my studies so i can't cook nothing except noodles and rice and i begin to be fed up with it!
cheryltan
I don't cook much at home because my mom does all the cooking tongue.gif
But if I were to cook, I prefer to cook Italian or Western food, because it's easier and faster to prepare.

Too much oil?? You mean western food use much oil/butter. We have many steam dishes and boiled dishes. While western dishes are fried/baked or grilled.
And many various "healthy" ingredients, that's different talk then potatoes and tomatoes... That's why most asians aren't fat and have more old(er) ppl then the rest of the world.

I love my mom's chinese food but don't really try cooking it myself. Usually cook western food as it's much easier. I guess I'm spoiled because can go out to restaurants for really good chinese food!

I enjoy cooking, the only problem is that i'm still in a learning phase. It's a lot of trial and error, but I don't want to waste food at the same time...I try to experiment with mostly asian dishes, I'm pretty good with rice, chicken, a bit of beef, and vegetables. Most of it is stir fry. I pick up and flip through a book every now and then. I find online recipes are disappointing. There's nothing like getting taught first hand in person. I'd like to experiment with more worldly foods, but for now i just cook to survive.
SomeAsianGuy
i can bake and cook some american stuff but i can do a lil stir fry, i can do alrite on my own
aisu_kuriimu
i would love to be able to cook and prepare all the food my gran does..but sadly enough i can't... but actually if my gran goes on holiday no one in my house would be able to prepare the traditional chinese foods at the different chinese events.. like "year cake" and "white radish cake" and you know the other sort of chinese traditional foods...

i can just about make soups.. but not the very chinese ones where they chuck in chinese ingrediants.. like the medical based ones. cooking wise.. erm.. i guess i can cook them.. but .. of course never as nice as me gran!!
Hyper_jess90
i can't cook all chinese food but fried rice with the egg and the meat and noodles. but then i can cook some western food like a bacon or sausage sandwich. laugh.gif

Can make some some light meals, since I've lived by myself. But I have no idea when it comes to boiling soup. Not the campbell ones, but the tranditional chinese soup that takes hours to boil but tastes so good~!
cberrynerd
I can cook some Chinese dishes. It's not that hard once you've made a couple dishes. Lately I've been learning to make some Vietnamese dishes. I love Vietnamese dishes as well as Chinese food.
Wordplay
Still learning. Soup, meatballs, spaghetti, grilled potatoes, chicken risotto, stakes, and so forth. As a bonus, I can also bake stuff like cakes, cinnamon buns, and blueberry pie. So... anyone willing to share an easy, eastern recipe for a casual cook? biggrin.gif
LiL~Yee

madcowny
I learnt how to cook when I went to university. I don't follow recipes but sort of see what's in the fridge and combine them into some something edible. Usually, it doesn't end up to bad! I have to say, I am excellent at cooking fried rice ^^
Yuuki-chan
I do know how to cook chinese dishes. It isn't really that hard, but I don't know how to cook too complicated dishes though.

i've never work in a restaurant before, but my father is a head cook for a famous restaurant, so when i was young i started to learn cooking, especially when both of my parents work 10 hours a day when we immigrated to canada and never have time to take care of me and my younger brother, which i had to take this responsibility, which i later learn to cook chinese food, and later on learn to cook italian. which cook became a hobby at the present.
