Yeah, I've noticed that, and I'm thinking that Gillian doesn't really have the confidence that she can do as well as she did before. But the same thing happened to Joey before, and as you can see, she still came out at the top even after her breakdown of not being able to sing. I just think that Gillian needs the confidence and some time. Maybe a few more solo performances will help, seeing how well she has done so far. To me, this is also the same with the weight issue about her. There has been alot of criticisms about her gaining weight and being chubby, so she wears jeans to cover up her legs and baggy clothes. And recently, Gillian lost 5 pounds, due to the hectic schedule and eating 'jai' for a month, and it seems like she's wearing a bit more clothes that shows off her figure. Like the picture of Gillian on this one Taiwan variety show, she dressed up a bit more compared to how she dressed when Twins first started to promote their new album. It's still loose, bit it shows off a bit more skin compared to what she usually wore. I think that if people stopped criticising her, that she will feel more comfortable and confident about herself.
http://ent.tom.com/images/pics/060628twins/d/14.jpgI'd actually like to see Gillian dressing up kind of like Charlene does for once, a skirt and a trendy top, and NO boots that covers up her legs, because that will be telling me that she feels confident about herself, and that she doesn't need to cover herself up because she's afraid about people saying how her she has 'elephant' legs or something. In the beginning when Twins first came out, Gillian actually wore more skirts and shorts that shows off her legs, but after people said that she was getting chubby and had elephant legs, around the time of Twins Effect I, it seems like she's been covering herself up a bit more, then later on she started to stop, but then, again, after people have been talking about her gaining weight, she started to cover herself up again. Stupid people, why can't they shut up and let Gillian be the way she is? That way, she can dress freely without having to worry about people talking about her weight.
True. Fans are so evil towards Gillian especially those fans who favor Sa, Bobo, 2R, and Stephy. I'm not kidding either. Some fans were actually laughing and purposely rubbing it in Gillian's face about the bias treatment. That is extremely ridiculous. Does Gillian really threaten their idol that much to curse her so much and laugh at every misfortune she encounters? Does Gillian really steal the spotlight naturally with just her presence? Gosh, if they wish to support their idol, they can still successfully do so without pulling Gillian into their pool of hatred. I guess, everyone must be waiting for Gillian to fall so that their idol can climb up.

And it's not me who is making it seem so but those fans are the ones acting as if Gillian is the
Queen Bee, who everyone wishes to push down and have a taste of her crown and throne.

Perhaps so.
I would love to see Gillian in sexy skirts and cute tops as well. Gillian has struggled her entire life, these rude inconsiderate people are not making it easy for her at all. The Chinese industry in general loves
skin over bones, anything more than that, they call fat especially someone like Gillian, whose beauty is so evident, everyone wants to overthrow that fact by poking fun at her
Oh so fake smile, elephant legs, short body, and uncute butt.
Sorry to say, that's what they call jealousy. Hatred does have reasons and obviously, there are plenty of envious fans.

Gillian should stomp those hypocrites with her elephant legs then, show them Gillian!
Well, at least for Joey, after her breakdown, she received the opportunity to rebuild her confidence through practicing solo. That is what Gillian should do, practice and explore her vocals solo. Currently or ever since her throat injury, Twins wouldn't be the healthiest environment for her to recover and regain back the lost confidence because even before the accident, Twins were already in a bad shape so returning back to Twins probably isn't or hasn't helped her much. Gillian needs personal rest to figure out what has been missing ever since the incident. Gillian needs to be relaxed during live performances; clearly, Gillian is most relaxed and comfortable during solo live performances, she releases her voice smoothly and freely, a few more solo performances and Gillian will completely recover just like Joey. As Twins, there is no room for self-discovery or growth and apparently, that is what Gillian needs the most.

Yes, Gillian needs more chances to show the narrow minded HK what she is capable of. I shared the mp3 of the Alan+Gillian duet at a chinese forum, but this particular person just gave me this big, long reply about how the song sounded alright, but it was only because Alan did a good job of leading, and the Xiao S+Alan version sounds much better. But this Alan+Gillian version was good, wasn't it?
It does take more than good leading by your partner to give a good portrayal of a song. I hope Gillian gets more solo opportunities, then she can show some people more evidence that she does well on her own as well as working with a partner.
I notice that Charlene has audible breathing on CD as well. After each line, you hear a gasp. I don't know why though since as you've said, don't CD producers make adjustments to make it sound flawless before releasing the song?
But I suppose computers don't have that advanced of technology to make it absolutely perfect yet. I suppose the CD version of course already sounds the best they can do. Sometimes hearing an unfixed version is scary when you compare it to the CD version. Anyway, Charlene sometimes even sounds flat with notes on CD; couldn't they have fixed it up a bit more?
You're right about the live performances thing with Charlene. When she can't go on with it, Charlene will go back with the loud singing because she seems to find comfort with it. Is that really going to work for her? Like just making improvements in the main and plug songs of each album, but not improving for singing in general? Shouldn't improvements in general be made instead?
It's not much good if you're an artiste who's only good in one or two songs at a time. That person obviously is ignoring and denying the fact that it was Gillian herself that contributed to the solo as a whole. Alan lead in the Alan-Sa duet and it didn't turn out that well so that person has no idea what she/he just stated. Alan lead in the same duet with Rainie YET the duet turned out quite horrible. So credits for the wonderful duet goes to both Alan-Gillian for collaborating so well.
Hm, I guess the computer and technical help can erase the
air bubbles/gasps but then, it wouldn't be considered real anymore. I mean, who sings without taking any breaths at all? Perhaps the gasps we hear on CD versions are the small ones but the huge more audible ones have been erased, that's probably why Sa sounds quite different live with all of those extra gasps we never really knew existed.

Technical adjustments are made to clear up some noises and fix some minor things here and there but not completely change the originality of their voices, I guess. As for the flat notes, um, if Sa's voice can't enhance those by itself, I'm afraid even technical support won't help much. Hm, Twins rarely perform unplugged songs so at the moment, Sa is safe but in the long run, Sa would need to improve in all songs in general.

I feel that way as well. Her performances at the beginning of her career up until her injury all sounded really nice. I remember there was a huge contrast in singing between Gillian and Charlene when I watched the Ichiban Concert as it was aired on TV. Even my mother, who does edge towards Charlene more, had to admit that Gillian gave a better performance singing. I remember that there was a part their their debut concert that Charlene just went completely flat with her singing.
Trust me, it wasn't enjoyable. Well, by watching their first concert, you will notice that Gillian definitely has better techniques of singing right now, but it's the part about projecting her voice that's different. It seems like after her injury, she doesn't project it as freely with as much openness as she did before. It was really obvious back in 2004 when she started singing with her voice really closed up like it ran into some barrier at her throat before being able to come out. By now, she is slowly recovering to her former projection because she's letting her voice out and more freely now. It could also be that she previously believed that she can't sing because of the former closed up moments of her throat, so she hasn't regained her confidence to sing freely yet. Hopefully, her throat will fully recover soon along with her confidence. Because seriously, you're right about how getting an injury in the throat that caused internal bleeding and damage in your voice box is not a little thing. Fully recovering could take ages, and it could be slowed up by Gillian's workload and lack of rest as well. Hm, yes that's the spot, Gillian's projection. Before, Gillian would project out her voice without hesitation or anxiety so the projection turned out smoothly and beautifully but now, seems like Gillian is afraid to stretch out her voice up in those notes, afraid she may not reach them completely and crack so she restrains a bit and steps down. Gillian needs more practice in those notes, in her projection, to regain her confidence but sadly, current Twins songs don't have those stretches anymore like their older songs. Gillian needs to confront her weaknesses and she has been but Twins songs are not the best songs to help her on this challenge. All Gillian needs is rest, health, and more solo exploration in other songs that will push her to confront her fears and get it over with, conquer the trauma and fear she lost to.
Given the right amount of practice time, Gillian sings extremely well, Twins Concert 2006. Gillian wonderfully delivered all of the songs so beautifully, perhaps even better than the CD versions. Oh I love Gillian's voice in that concert, so full of life and emotions. Gillian was born to be a singer alright. Long concerts like that back to back didn't wear out Gillian's vocals at all; she kept continuing on so lovely without resorting to any loud substitutions.

They're like that! Those who think that Twins can't sing will always believe that they can't sing... even if they hear a good performance, they will always come up with the most ridiculous reasons to pull it off. Another example would be their most recent JSG performance.. everyone knows that you are no longer allowed to lip sync on JSG, but because Twins gave a good performance of 'Around the world with 80 dollars' on the show, they believe they were lip syncing

True but in a way, Twins perform really well in a sprinkle of performances only. I guess, in order to fully convince the audience that they can sing as a pair, they need more decent live performances to prove their point. But criticizing Twins as lip syncing was a bit extreme.

These people need to get it through their thick heads that people do improve through time. They're simply stereotyping and denying all the improvements that Twins give. It is clear that JSG doesn't allow lip syncing, but they do allow background voices to be played during the performances which explains why the artistes don't move their lips during those parts. Besides, Charlene's respiration was quite audible during that performance; if a CD was being played, it wouldn't have been that audible.
It would answer to Gillian's beauty if she really is mixed. Perhaps Gillian herself could be asked for clarification on this. I would think that there'd be a mistake if only one newspaper reported it that way, but besides WenWeiPao, Appledaily said so as well. Charlene should know whether Gillian's mixed or not. If Gillian is mixed, then I'd say she's probably a quarter or an eighth mixed since her mom definitely looks completely chinese, and her father gave her the surname of 'Chung'. I do wonder how she is mixed though. Is she part American? Or is she part Filipino? Those are the two that most people guess on. Haha, Edison's part American, and Kenny's part Filipino.
Appledaily: Charlene Choi said, "It looks 95% like me from far away, but 90% up close. Gillian's wax figure looks so much like a foreigner, but she is mixed herself."
Wenweipao: Charlene said, "Gillian's wax figure looks a bit foreign, but she does have mixed blood in her. This is our first time seeing the wax figures, and the clothing is made from the same plan as the one from our concert; we did suggest to have the figure made of how we looked in TTE, but there was a difficulty of keeping the action pose for so long. We also made a recording of greetings in three different languages, so our wax figures will have vocals later on. We are satisfied with our wax figures in general." Haha, true. Sa's breathing was real, no lip sync version would reveal that realistic fact.
Hm, I suppose Gillian is mixed like Edison. Gillian part Filipino? Hm.

You know, that's so ironic how Gillian's family roots have remained quite a mystery even up until now, we're still not sure. Sa couldn't have been joking around. And especially with Gillian's father who passed away ever since Gillian was a baby, everything seems so concealed.

No one has any idea how he looks like, where he's from etc. Well, of course the public doesn't need to dwell into that personal information but it just makes Gillian so much more interesting as an individual. Gillian does need to clarify it herself but so far Gillian has never mentioned anything of that sort so was Sa supposed to leak that out anyway? I see no harm but Gillian may not feel as comfortable giving out information about her past especially things that involve her father, she's extra sensitive. Gillian's mom appears full Chinese as well.

Perhaps it is Gillian's father who is mixed.
Gillian is beautiful no matter what.
Anyway, thanks for the translation. It saved me a lot of time figuring it out lol.
Go Gillian~
