But Wong Kar Wai wanted him to turn the gentle, soft-spoken character he had played in In The Mood For Love into a bad guy in 2046. A sequel of sorts to the much-raved In The Mood, 2046 premiered at Cannes Film Festival in May to great acclaim, though it did not win any awards. Four years in the making, and narrowly missing its slot at Cannes because of Wong's last-minute editing, 2046 follows the erotic adventures of Leung's character with a string of beautiful women.

ORIENTAL DAILY NEWS - Maggie Tsang interviewed Carina Lau on radio and they openly talked about Tony Leung. Carina revealed that Tony wants a baby! Carina thinks it's time too, but worries about what will happen next in the world. Because they didn't want to be bothered by the press, the interview was secretly recorded in advance. When Maggie introduced Carina, she mentioned that her interview subject is now the girlfriend of her ex, as well as a supposed enemy of love. Maggie emphasized that Carina has never gotten mad at Tony. Since the days of talent school, they've been good friends. Maggie joked that Tony's hard to get along with so she dumped him, leaving him for Carina. Even though Tony and Maggie have broken up for years, he still has a special place in her heart. His brooding good looks NEVER go out of style... and watz more.. i really think he has a mind of his own - not bothering about what the media says about him, and choosing what films he want to act in and what he does not want to act it. Frankly i think he has a more powerful personality than Andy Lau (sorry to the andy lau fans out there). I remembered an occasion when andy asked his fans if its ok for him to have a girlfriend! At least we don't see Tony doing this!!!

I love tony...he's my favorite actor! He's soo talented and all the roles he portrays are soo believable. Even tho he's a bit older...he's still looking good for his age.

Tony is really my favorite male actor of the whole asian entertainment field. The huge variety in his roles and how he skillfully, naturally, adapts to each one is just amazing. I am just in awe of his acting skills and have really the highest respect for his talent. I always look forward to his next movie.

2046 originally planned its Taiwan press conference for Wednesday, but because Tony Leung Chiu Wai's illness it was postponed until yesterday. Perhaps because the actors have talked too much about 2046, the media focus was on Wai Jai and Carina Lau Ka Ling. Aside from their impression about working together, they were asked about all the gossips about their relationship.

Wai Jai said, "I am very resistant to scenes with Ka Ling. The feeling is strange, fake, I can feel that she is acting. Luckily the director understood me and only arranged for one scene with us together. As for the key of our relationship, I don't know. We both have made compromises." Ka Ling agreed that mutual admiration and the tolerance are the most important.

i finally got the chance 2 buy the VCD of Ashes of Times.
still luving the movie as ever & it brings back lots of grt memory of it. however, i wasn't that satisfy w/ the VCD. it cut out some of the scenes which i remember watchin back then. like the scene between Tony & Carina interacting w/ each other was cut out, & the scene w/ Charlie Young at the near end of the movie was not there.
i was disappointed w/ the cut-out parts, but i didn't regret buyin it. i remember this was the movie where i became a fan of Charlie Young. she was very beautiful & graceful in the movie. also Ashes of Time was where i thought Tony should do more ancient films. he was grt as the Blind Swordsman [n it doesn't hurt that he lookz hot in ancient costume ].
in Ashes of Time, when i rewatch the ending of Tony's character [the Blind Swordsman], it just sadden me all over again. the Blind Swordsman took on an impossible task in order 2 earn $$ 2 go back home 2 c his wife, Peach Blossom (Carina Lau), b4 he goes completely blind. at the end, he got sliced in the neck by 1 of the mountain thief...hearin his own blood comin out of his neck n died . all he wanted was 2 c his wife b4 he goes completely blind, n it just didn't happen. how sad is that?...well i still thought Tony has a very cool character 2 play [even though he's only in 1/3 of the movie]...it's amazing how the Blind Swordsman can still kicked @ss even when he's nearly goin blind.

(12/30/2004) Tony Leung Chiu Wai while working on SEOUL RAIDERS (HONG SING GUNG LEUK) in Seoul was surrouned by fiery beauties daily, but only he knew about the pain.

Wai Jai said, "Because these models are either Korean or Japanese, communication was the biggest problem. On many occasions we relied on translators' help or conversed in simple English. If you ask me the difference between working with the Japanese and the Koreans, I can tell everyone that there is no difference because when they are talking I have no idea what they are saying."

Wai Jai in SEOUL appeared to be super cool in every scene, but he said that he did not deliberately arranged for them. "In the film I was captured and imprisoned. At the time my hair and clothing were a mess. Director (Jingle) Ma Chor Sing still wanted my female assistants to say to me, 'Boss you are very cool'. Thus the image in the scene was not deliberate, just the director deliberately made it that way."

Wai Jai in the film fought night and day. Although it was tough he felt that running was tougher. He said, "Once the director had me chasing someone for several blocks. Running several blocks of course was not a problem, but this scene was shot and reshot and I ran for half a day. I was out of breath. I have to thank the director because after this scene, I can hold my breath for a long time."

Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai) in SEOUL RAIDERS (HAN SING GUNG LEUK) have many fight scenes. Director Jingle Ma Chor Sing added to the difficulty when he decided to add a fight scene in a hot spring. Wai Jai and Siu Chai were completely out of breath from fighting and complained to the director.

Ma Chor Sing has always been a nice guy and thus getting complaints from his actors was like making the innocent suffer. Wai Jai said, "I have to complain that the director is too nice. That day when we had to fight in the hot spring because the temperature was too cold Siu Chai and I both wore diving suits underneath; but the director was too nice. He was worried that after we got into the water we might be too frigid to move, so he asked the crew to raise the temperature in the water. Finally Siu Chai and I were nearly cooked."

Siu Chai followed, "Because the hot spring water temperature was above 45 degrees (Celsius), at first we didn't feel the heat in the water but after awhile and all the moving from the fight scenes, we felt like we couldn't breathe after each scene. Although we have removed our diving suits, we still felt very hot. My limbs were numb. Due to the cold temperature if I left the water I would have been frozen instantly. During the day of the shoot, Wai Jai and I were like taking 'three warmth' baths. We kept going in and getting out of the water. After two hours we were already exhausted."

Wai Jai said, "I will never forget that day's pain because it was truly hard to take. I can't describe it at all. If I have to describe it I can only say 'horrible'. Luckily I saw the scene and it was very exciting. The several minute fight sequence truly had no room for me to brink. The result was great and I let the director go. I am very confident in this film's box office, so Ma Chor Sing has to take us on vacation to celebration."

Congratz 2 Tony 4 winnin Best Actor from the HK Film Critics Society 4 his role in 2046!
i wasn't surprise that he won Best Actor. i'll admit, 2046 was borin (IMO), but Tony was really good as Chow Mo-Wan. i am surprised though that Zhang ZiYi won Best Actress as Bai Ling in 2046 .

In the Media Asia HK$40 million Lunar New Year film SEOUL RAIDERS (HONG SING GUNG LEUK), Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai) play the good guy and the bad guy. Wai Jai in order to avenge himself takes the chance to play a trick on Siu Chai.

Director Jingle Ma Chor Sing in order to create a comedy effect arranges for Siu Chai to be tied up in on scene while Wai Jai feeds him wasabi. Siu Chai has been very resistent to the green wasabi. He says, "I like to have spicy food, but wasabi's attack on the nose is hard to take. I know that the director is truly worried when he asks Wai Jai to feed me wasabi. When I smell wasabi I already want to die!" Wai Jai laughs, "Luckily I am not the one who has to eat the wasabi. I dislike that flavor the most so I can completely sympathize with Siu Chai. Unfortunately I can't be gentle during the shoot because if I do we have to reshoot. Then Siu Chai has it even worse! Finally I of course take the whole piece of wasabi and stuff it into Siu Chai's mouth."

The wasabi makes Siu Chai's nose runny and eyes watered. He says, "I truly can't take it. At the time my mind goes completely blank. I only want to finish that scene as soon as possible and have some water soon." The most painful part though is after Wai Jai stuffs the wasabi into Siu Chai, the director wants Wai Jai to rub the wasabi on Siu Chai's face. Siu Chai can only stay tough. After the shoot, he realizes that his skin has started to react and peel.

"At the time I was scared to death. Aside from the red pimples my skin was also peeling. After the scene I had to fly to America to perform, so I didn't have time to see a doctor. Finally I could only perform as is. Luckily I didn't put anything on it. Although wasabi was strong my skin was even stronger. I only washed my face with water. About a week later it recovered. If it couldn't I would have taught Ma Chor Sing quite a lesson!"

Tony Leung Chiu Wai yesterday morning promoted his new film SEOUL RAIDERS with an interview. He looked rather awake. Wai Jai said that when he was not working he had a habit of early to bed and early to rise. He woke up at 6AM. Mainly he felt that when he was working his schedule was already flipped around. On his rare time off he should properly adjust to time.

Although Wai Jai said that he was off, he still had a lot to do and 24 hours were not enough for his day. He said, "I have to play sports, study Wing Chun, I even have to take time to eat at Ma's place. On the other hand while I was working I didn't feel so busy." He planed to spend half a year to learn Wing Chun for YIP MUN JUEN (YIP MUN LEGEND). He seriously said, "I have to learn to be completely be in character, to be like that person. Otherwise how would I convince myself I am Yip Mun?" Also, Wai Jai has received a Golden Bauhinia Best Actor Award nomination for 2046 and in competition with Andy Lau Tak Wa, Stephen Chiau Sing Chi, and Jackie Chan. He honestly said that the only film in the category he has not seen was Wa Jai's A WORLD WITHOUT THIEVES (TIN HA MO CHAK) but he believed that the nomination proved that the performance was good. He said, "I won't suspect my own abilities. I have always been very satisfied with my performance in 2046. Of course that will depend on the jury."

SEOUL RAIDERS is a sequel to TOKYO RAIDERS. Wai Jai's character remains the same. He said that the film was the James Bond series so his performance was easier to grasp. However he felt the films were different from James Bond. "Their production is bigger and costs more. They blow up Porsches, we blow up Toyotas." Most of the film was shot in the capital city of SEOUL. He pointed out that Korea was rather chilly, scenes in the water were rather difficult. The worst was Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai) did not wear a scuba diving suit, soaking in a 40 some degrees (Celsius) hot spring all day was quite a killer. When Siu Chai got back on land he was like a steamed shrimp. Although he had a diving suit he was not any better. They soaked for awhile, left the water right away to rest, then returned to the water. Has he fallen for Korea? Wai Jai honestly said that he could not read Korean and had no hint to begin guessing.

yeah i heard of the song and saw the MV 2. the song sounds good, though i prefer hearin it in Canto c0z i don't understand Mando, thus i don't understand wat's he singing. but watever, the songs sounds grt and thatz wat important.
im actually surprised Tony sings sooo good in all his Mando songs, c0z i thought he wasn't a fluent Mando speaker (thatz y his voice was dubbed in Hero). i guess singing and talking is 2 different thing
