Full Version: TVB remaking series..

I am just curious why TVB constantly remaking series that have already been remake before like Heaven Sword, Duke of Deer Mountain, & Legend of Condor Heroes. These series are good but with TVB constantly remaking them, I am tire of it. Look at the last remake of Heaven Sword, they have Lawrence Ng playing Cheung Mo Kin.. I think he is too old. On the other hand, why doesn't TVB remake others like Choi Lo Heung? Or an old series with Chow Yun Fat call something like The Smiling Proud Wanderer. Why don't TVB spent time to remake series that were never be remake before instead of spending time on those that have already been remake for 2-3 times....
lb-lb
Yeah, that's true. I think the oldies are better so I don't know why TVB bother to make new ones. Maybe they run out of stuff to film.
Hem
Because those series are more popular than others and by the way those remakes are not like they are exactly like the old one. It's others actors and different plot.
SleepySiuJuJu
Yeah, I think it also depends on the popularity as well and also how they ended it. If its ending sounds like something they could use to continue onto a next story, then they might do a second part. However if the ending is that everyone is happy and "complete", then there'll probably be no second part cause there's nothing else to talk about!

I want TVB to remake "Twin Heroes" (Legendary Siblings). I think Raymond would fit the role of Xiao Yu Er. For Fa Moa Kiet, I can't think of any now.
dreams29
i think TVB remakes those series cause the books for those series was so popular as well. can you imagine a remake of a modern time series? oh man that would be awful... no matter how popular it is. its easier to remake ancient films because you can change the plot around a little.

but i don't like how TVB remakes so many of them either. it does get tiring after awhile.

well tvb have already remake The Smiling Proud Wanderer with chow yun fat it call [TVB] State Of Divinity 1996 so I dont think tvb will remake it right now.
Sai2004
I prefer the CN version of Heaven sword dragon sabre 2003 with So Yau pang as cheung mo gai, that one was actually good, with all them hot girls =P, I agree TVB shouldnt keep remaking them the one with lawrence ng was pure crap!
chyneze
i think they remake them to see which is better. they also edit some parts off for the new series when remade. but still alot of people like those series remade and continuie buying them over and over again.
slicky
I think they remake the series because the new writers for TVB are out of ideas, so they are better of remaking the older series that are good. The remakes are not as good too except they added more special effects.

Gallen Lo Kar-Leung for Fa Mo Quet, he's really a piece of wood =)
But I think he's too old for that role..

Anyway, as others says here, I think TVB aren't out of ideas. It just because those series are really popular. Since they are all adaptations from several novels. Those fans like to watch it again and again. Only for the results what this time TVB has made. Different actors, how the story is compared to the novel. But, nowadays since TW and CN also have many series from those stories, TVB have to look out for that. So I think for the coming next 5-10yrs, they wouldn't remake Twin Heroes/Handsome-Legendary Siblings. And I don't know how the rights are from those novels, but I think they can't just remake and remake. Since that JinYong/Louis Cha is really unhappy with those series, it would be more difficult for them to get those rights.

I was thinking about Larence Ng for this role. I think he would match the as role of Fa Mo Quet. But Think that he's too old to be Ray's twin. So that's why, didn't say blush.gif. So Gallen is older than Laurence right? unsure.gif

I think Sammul Chan would match that role also

Leila as Tiet Sin Lan seems good
Nancy Wu as Jiang Ching is good
Sonia Kwok as Yao Yea???

Its all perfect til Sonija tongue.gif .... Its not that I don't like Sonija its just that she just isn't good with supporting or like no that important roles. I say or Sharon or Tavia would be good.

But I don't think that Shaon or Tavia match Yao Yea's character. They r young to play that role.
For being Fa Mo Kiet's master (Yi Fa princess, Yao Yea), I don't know whom in TVB would match that character. I think Sonija Kwok match the evil character, and she is a bit older than the others, so choose her blush.gif
Tumby_tum
Yeah.. I want to rewatch Lengendary Siblings too but why TVB never remake that one!!! Also, Chong Law Heung too... I don't remember these series and they are good too. I believe Legendary Siblings is from the same author as that of Heaven Sword and the rest.

Tavia or Sharon will not work, because Yi Fa Princess is old enough to be their mothers!

How about a remake of the Great General Sit Yan Guai (spelling). I remember the original version was played by Alex Man Chi Leung but I don't ever remember a remake of it? I know Lady Fan was a remake of "The Great General's Son" but I havent seen a remake of the prequal to it.

I don't know how old Raymond is, but TVB is so stupid sometimes with choosing actors, why that's not possible? Hm... So if Gallen play Fa Mo Quet, someone mentioned Laurence Ng, he will fit the role for little fish... =) Or let Gallen play Yin Nam Tin. Some fight scenes in the beginning and for the rest of the series just in the pot.

By the way, the last Dragon Sabre was also a 40+ Cheung Mo Gay

Lawarence NG is currently 41 and in 2000 when they film HSDS he was 36-37. Thats still much older than what Cheung Mo Gei should be, so I agree TVB is very stupid at times:P.

Gallen Lo is 42 and turning 43 later this year. He is 18 years older than Raymond. Not a very convincing twin to me. There is no way Gallen will play Yin Nam Tin because YNT's role is so small in here and Gallen is such a high profile actor. He's not going to come back just to play a small role like that, its just moking his acting credentials tongue.gif

I don't think Samual's face is serious enough to play Fa Mo Quet. He has to be a serious, quiet guy, while Samual seems more like an outgoing, fun, charasmatic guy. Maybe he can pull it off, I'm not sure.

hehe, in the last Twin version 2004, dicky is about 15 years older than Nick Tse, lol, and he was Nick's twin, lol. They didn't really match each other.

Anyway, for Sammul, just see the poster of Liza's new drama "When Rules Turn Lose", he looks serious, lol

Woah, the discussion totally went off topic, what happening to discussing about remakes?

I agree that there are too many remakes for a certain series, they should remake only once. I guess the new series aren't that good and they're out of ideas so they start remaking popular series. I really don't mind the remake, but I hate it when they cast people who doesn't fit that role.
For example someone who is too old for that role or can't act the role the way it should be.
i_fotted
Oh, how about "The Blood Stained Intrigue". I seen the original sometimes during the 80s and the story followed me ever since. It had such a great storyline. Its about mystery, murder, and it involves 2 brother seperated.

The cast in this serial were not so great, but the story more than made up for it. It was such a great series. The only main role I remember in that series was Jimmy Au. He was the lead role.

It would be awesome if TVB remake this one. Has anyone seen this? Its really good.
midnightD
Hmmm...maybe its because those series are more popular or well known?
I actually love ROCH so I don't mind but it gets annoying if it continues. I'd like to see a remake of Smiling Proud Wanderer as well, I enjoyed the one with Fiona and Jacky wink.gif
What I'd like to see is a remake of 'Legend of Dagger Lee'......though I don't think there was a TVB version.
pikhed
i rkn its good because den all the good seies are getting remakes because they hav high popularity
boi
they always seem to remake the old ones more as well like the fighting ones about legends n stuff. I suppose its hard to come up with that kinda storyline much easier just to remake it.
tis me
The series with the most remakes are usu the most popular series.. with a strong plot (because they are usu based on novels).. It's not that easy to come up with original material for ancient series..
k2djspike
The series that tvb remake are the most sought out series for individuals. You might not like the series that they remake but i think majority of the individuals in hong kong want to rewatch the series. but i might be wrong. but dont worry about any Jin Yong series anymore became he himself said that he doesnt want anything to do with TVB anymore
kutieang11
I think they should remake these movies since they are so good. Many younger people will never get a chance to see them unless it gets remade.
stormee
I also wonder why they keep on remake and remake.....getting sick and tired. NOt only tvb, but taiwan and china also keep making these old story, why can't they make a new story...... buahaha.gif

That's good so that China producers can remake Sword Stained with Royal Blood and Hap Hak Hang. These 2 Jin Yong novels are the least remaked, I think. Have watched SSWRB starring Gordon Lam, Charmaine Sheh and Kong Wah, but I didn't get the chance to watch Hap Hak Hang.
hvduong
so remaking series are good and some are not. Like the serie "Condor Heroes 95" is better than the Condor Heroes b4 that. But Chor Lau Heung, the remake one is not that good. Plus the new series Ten Brothers is good too, but i didn't watch the old Ten Brothers so i don't know how good it is.
tvbblock
well they just out of things to make. sometimes i wish they remake ones they havnt remake before instead before the same time over and over
Kim4ever
They are just plain lazy to come up with a new series!! Then after about a decade or so, they think the audience have forgotten about the series so they remake it! tongue.gif
llwy12
TVB remakes these ancient series because the novels were popular and they can't come up with their own ideas. I definitely agree though that some of the remakes were absolutely horrible (i.e. the Heaven Sabre remake with Lawrence Ng -- absolutely hated that one -- hey I think I already posted this same comment somewhere)...however I loved the one with Tony Leung...I also enjoyed the remake of the Smiling Proud Wanderer (State of Divinity with Jackie Lui and Fiona Leung)

I actually prefer that TVB stops remaking these series because it's not going to do them any good -- the actors / actresses who came before made such a huge impression on the audience that any remakes after will most likely pale in comparisons (for instance, Barbara Yung and Felix Wong in Condor Heroes, Tony Leung in Heaven Sword, etc.).

Also, I'm a Jin Yong fan so I've read most of the novels he's written and can honestly say that none of the series made so far are even close to the original works. I understand that some of the plot may be changed or modified to fit TV, but it shouldn't be changed to the point where it's a completely different story line (or characters are introduced that were never in the novels to begin with)....if that's the case, then why make it an "adaptation"...why not just create a completely new series with a completely different plot? Just my 2 cents....

Loved the Fiona / Jackie version of Smiling Proud Wanderer as well (State of Divinity)...I was surprised by how well the 2 of them fit the characters (and since I'm a Jin Yong fan, I'm pretty picky about who plays the characters from his novels)....Fiona's character in the series (Yam Ying Ying) is one of my favorites and I feel she depicted the character perfectly.

Also, as a side note, the Legend of Dagger Lee was originally a TVB series (the one with Damian Lau)....haven't seen a remake of it though, probably because it wasn't as popular as Jin Yong's stories.
