I just finished re-watching this series again! I remember i loved this series in the early 90's! I remember I was crazy about Leon Lai when this series first came out, he looked so cute in it. This series makes me realize that TVB don't make many series like these anymore. It seem that in the 80's and early 90's tvb made some really really good series.
This series i believe was pretty much when Leon was being promoted and also Deric Wan was pretty popular at the time for his role in "looking back in anger". I remember i loved this series because of Leon and Maggie siu. I was never a huge fan of Cathy Chow.
What do u think of this series and it's story line? Who was ur favorite in this series?

I loved this series too....but I HATED Deric Wan because he turned out to be "pure" evil(later on...) towards the three, right???
I yearned for Kathy to get together with Leon(too bad u don't like her).
But did Maggie/Kathy die because of Deric or somethin'.....???

Yeah Deric turned out to be a coldhearted bastard! Maggie is the one who died because she took a bullet for Leon when Deric tried to shoot him maggie pushed Leon out of the way and she got shot twice so her character died. I am a huge fan of Maggie!!!

i remember this series...omg..i was such a leon fan back then...i totally loved it....but then i found deric's character so evil...it was so crap....he just basically used everyone

The more you hate the actor who plays a evil role, the more succesful he is to portray the character. I don't really like Deric, but he's is a good allround actor, funny in comedy and hate him in evil roles (I really hate him in 義不容情 as the brother of Felix)

By the way, back to maintopic. I've bought the vcd of this series. But still haven't time to watch it. Back in the airing time I've watched a couple of ep. Don't know why I've bought it, cos Leon really can't act...

I agree, Leon couldn't really act. Even in the scenes where he gets angry, it kind of looks fake. It is Deric Wan that shines throughout the series.

This series is one the classic Deric Wan super evil character. Beside playing good guys' he so good at portraying such a bad character in this series.

I really like Kathy in this series. She portrays her character amazingly well that I could feel for her. Too bad she and Leon didn't get together in the end.

the ending was cliffhanger. Kathy's character is likable person. I became her fan after this series. Deric portrayed the evil character so well. This series is one of my all time favorite.

I guess I'm one of the minority that likes Maggie together with Leon. I just don't like Cathy's character in this serie. I felt that it was actually her fault for causing Derek to hate Leon. She shouldn't agreed to marry him if she doesn't like him! And the other part is that she cancel it last minute, causing Derek to be so embrassed and later on, he found out that she's in love with his best friend(Leon)! That's not something that anyone can swallow and not feel mad about it, although, he shouldn't blame Leon, its more on Cathy side in my opinion.

I agree with u also! I wanted Maggie to be with Leon. I also think that Cathy didn't handle the whole situation very well but then again I guess it was the storyline. But like u, I wanted Maggie and Leon together not only because I am a Maggie fan but also her character was better I thought.

Yah, I really love Maggie's character too! She left Leon not bc of she doesn't love him but for her brother and also the incident with Bobby's death, she got no choice!!! I felt bad for her character especially when she came back and realizing that Leon is with Cathy already after Maggie waited all that time to see him Although it's not anyone's fault but it just really sad. Her character never had much moments of happiness except in the beginning when she was dating Leon.

This series made me a huge Leon Lai fans.. back in the days..
I was probably still in 5th / 6th grade that time..

Last night I rewatched a few episodes .. still downloading 2/3 of them right now
Brought back a lot of memories ..

What's amazing is.. even though it's been more than 10 years... probably almost 15 years since I watched it.. I still could sing one of the OST (Leon's "I'm Sorry I Love You") hahuauhaha I just sang along when I heard it.. I memorized the lyrics since I'm not a Cantonese speaker .. in fact I'm not a speaker of any Chinese language

It would be perfect if somebody could provide English Subs for these kinds of excellent TVB dramas cus right now I only understand about 60% of the conversation hehe.. but it's alright since I've watched this before

Your not the only one who thinks Deric's character turn evil because of Kathy. Right in the last minute she didn't want to marry him, and then had the nerve to treat him like dirt.

deric was a really good villian in this series & this series was really big in the 90s since the themesong is so popular. actually this is the first TVB series i rented so remembered it quite well.

I remember watching it from TV3 in Malaysia.
It's so far the best modern series I ever watched.
When I think about this series, I'm very sorry for Leon Lai, since from the beginning to the end, he was never really happy.
I even still remember the theme song (sang by Leon Lai).
Definitely will watch this series again after I get promoted and able to download.

Hi! I belong to the minority as well! I didnt like Kathy's performance or her character! She sort of lead Deric on and then dropped him when his dreams were coming true. It was like she was playing him or something. I mean, teh guy si bound ot be confused when his GF sleeps with him and agrees to marry him with no hesitation, then tells him on on the night that she doesn't love him. Poor Deric!

I just think that she was just getting cold feet like everyone else does, she would be OK when the party was over, but no, she decides to dump him right before all those people! i just find her immature! I like Maggie more!

Yes, Ching Hong si quite pitiful, she married a man who doesn;t love her and lost her BB as well.

When i was watching the series, I sort of felt that if Deric hadn't overheard Kathy saying that she liked Leon, then maybe he woudl nto have gone crazy. I think that Deric was quite sincere when he proposed and he would have tried hsi best to become a good husband and father.

But I think he does care for his wife (tho not exactly love), but he can't get it out of his mind that she is Leon's sister so he emotionally mistreats her. But then, he is nice to her half the time when her brother is not involved, like giving her presents and he doesn't actually beat her up or anything. Sigh, maybe they would have been better if they had a baby. i was very sad fro Deric when the baby died!

i thought Leon and Kathy made a better couple. Maggie looked a tad bit too old for him, okay honest TOO old for him. I wanted Leon and Kathy to get together, they can't just separate or stay single for the rest of their lives just because Maggie died. They should've saw that as a sign or a chance for them to be together. Oh well. I saw this when i was like four, then i rented it and watched it again a few years ago so I could understand it better.

Reading through all the comments, I believe the minority has become the majority in here...I too did not like Kathy's character nor her performance. I've watched the whole series through the first time around and then the 2nd time around, I have past all the scenes that has Kathy in it except towards the ending of the series.

The part that caused me feeling sad and very in pain to the point that I had cried was when Deric pushed Leon's dad to the end where he suicide(he jumped off the balcony).

I really thought Maggie & Leon look really cute together since they've co-star 3 times already, one in ancient series, modern series and a movie together.

This's one of my favorite series. All four leading actors and actresses were amazing especially Kathy and Leon, they were great.

I prefer Cin Kiu (Maggie) and A Long (Leon) story line to the others.

I just rewatched this series. And my feelings about this series is the same as when I first watched it in the early 90s

I too am a big fan of Maggie, and not a fan of Kathy. I would rather have Leon choose Maggie over Kathy in the end. I also think Maggie is a better actress than Kathy. Obviously, the series was meant to promote Kathy as the lead

Although I like Leon, I think Deric is a much better actor than he is. Leon, he portrayed the character's pain pretty well. But I didn't see him shed a tear, in scenes that he should. And many of his casual interactions look unnaturally.

Deric is a very good actor. Though the nature of the roles are different, I think he was better in "Blood of Good and Evil" than he was in this series. I didn't buy into the extent of his "love" for Kathy, partly because I'm not a fan of hers and partly because of the storyline.

I would love to see Kathy ends together with Leon and I believe that they will it is an open-ended ending.

I like this serie except one part that Deric should not become so evil and hurt Leon's family out of jealousy. However, Deric has so many misunderstandings with Leon. Of course, Deric acted much better than Leon in this serie, but I like both of them.

i guess if maggie didn't come back things might be different for kathy and leon. too bad things didn't quite make out for them

Many characters died in this 1991 production, what a tragic ending but the soundtrack is good. I guess The Breaking Point is one of TVB hits drama in early 1990's together with Blood of Good & Evil.
