I thought that this series was absolutely touching...everyone I know who has watched it said that they cried until their eyes were swollen...lolz...I was about the same...except that my eyes didn't swell...probably because I didn't watch it all at once...it is really good...not to mention that it was based on a true story...
This series truly brought me back to watching Japanese drama series...watching Taiyou no Uta now...lolz...
I would highly recommend this series to everyone!!
I've seen this drama so many times coz u can never get sick of it ^^
It's brilliant.. Erika and Ryo are so good at acting <3
I recommend it to everyone...
All my friends that have seen it, have all cried at least once whilst watching this drama.. even the guys ^^ coz it is that good.. really emotional but brilliant! <3

Hmm, I just started watching this drama today and after one episode I went and looked up the real life story of Aya and discovered how tragic this disease can be. Even though I already know what will happen at the end, I must finish watching it.

After watching half of this drama in one day, I can honestly say this is the saddest drama I have ever watched in my life, especially the fact that it's a true story. To watch a disease eat away at a person until there's nothing left, it's so unfair...this is what you experience in this drama. There's a lot of very touching scenes. So far, I think the most touching scenes were when she accidentally eavesdrops on her little sister yelling at her brother about why he is so ashamed of Aya even though she spent a lot of time sewing his name into his soccer jersey and the farewell speech she gave to her class. Those scenes made me teary eyed and I never cry or even come close to crying when watching dramas. I would highly recommend everyone to watch this, it's on a whole new level of sadness.
Episode 10 finally made me really shed tears. I couldn't hold back tears when she pretty much said she was giving up everything and had nothing left and when her dad ran out of the room and broke down.

I was watching parts of the Special but it was RAW. I happened to read the comments and most of the people said that the it sucked that 2.5 out of the 3 hours were flashbacks. >.< That sucks. I'll still watch it I guess...Maybe I'll just watch the parts that aren't flashbacks. hehehe..We will see.

Yeah, I've heard the special isn't that great except it's the entire drama crammed into one 2 hour special. I just finished watching the finale, so tragic. It was amazing that she was able to hang in there for ten years even though after five years she lost all motor functions. The ending visit at her gravestone was really touching seeing all the people she has inspired with her writing. I really wish that Dr. Mizuno would have found a cure, but since it's based on a real story and there still is no cure today, it would ruin the drama. The only thing I don't really get is why Haturo appears at the end scene with her at the gym.

All dorama specials i've ever watched so far are composed mostly of flashbacks. So it's no wonder Ichi Ritoru's special has flashbacks.

This is like the best japanese drama ever even though is base in a real story.. I love it... I have cried some much... I like how Aya's mom (the one on real life) asked for the director and producers to put Haruto because her daugther never had the opportunity if love... i was really touched by this drama... is just funny how we human take things for granted... life is one.. let's live it to the fullest!

i just finished this series yesterday... i've been so busy lately that like, i watch at least 3 eps at once and than take a while of a break and than watch a couple more eps. last night i finally finished it after watching eps 7~11.
it's really sad. i can't believe that i cried in every ep! i still remember in ep 6, at the beginning i thought oh.. i'm prob not gonna cry at all in this ep.. but than right when aya's sister dragged her brother home and gave him a lecture about their sister's health.. i started to BAWL my eyes out!
when i saw the "5 years later" thing popping up at the end of the ep.. i was like.. WHAA!~ cause i usually HATE it when producers put that in.. but than i realized after a second later... that's a good thing.... cause.. to tell the truth, there wasn't much left to play since she's already really sick. i just wish that Haruto and Aya got together in the end.. since it didn't really much of it.. like in A Walk to Remember, the main got together, but he never asked her to marry him.. but than again, it's based on a true story.. so ya~ =x
tvxqlover84: wait wait.. so does this mean that she never loved in real life before and they just added in haruto's character? huh?!?
anyways, i REALLY want to watch the movie version of this, and also the special. i saw the RAW version, but i can't even understand it. stopped after part 1. well, i'm not sure if it's the movie version, or if it's the other copied version.. nayla's diary or w.e. i heard that other one was that little girl acting. [the one aya met at the hospital... the one who's grandpa (or was it father) who also had the same disease]

This series was so horribly sad, but wonderful...I totally enjoyed it. Ryo is actually a really good actor, and Erika did well also! I cried in nearly every episode. The themesong is also really good....Konayuki has such meaningful lyrics. After watching the drama, I want to read the translated version of Aya Kito's diary.

i cried while watching the special as well. Aso-kun looks very good in there!! keke, ryo always looks good :)
it is basically sort of recap of the major scenes in one litre, esp the ones that make you cry. Just watching it reminds me of the sad parts, sigh.
aya's sister (ako) became a nurse, working in the same hospital as aso, but the whole SP revolves around memories of aya.
i did listen to the Cantonese version opf "Only Human", and I like K's version more. The cantonese lyrics seems a little weird for me.

Canto version of Only Human is nowhere near as good as K's original version. I'm canto myself but definitely much prefer the japanese version. K's voice is much better n able to carry out emotions in comparison to Jason.
Desperately looking for Ichi Rittoru Special with english subs.

Managed to watch the special on YT RAW with no subs and it mainly consisted on the sadder moments from the drama packed into 2.5 hours. The end scene as they walk together through the high school was new "flashback" scene I think because I don't remember seeing that and I can't figure from context what they were saying =(

Damn when are those subs coming? :S
are they coming at all

lol i'm so impatient ><
hmm...apparently the subbing group (ehh, the name has currently slipped outta my head =.=") was on a hiatus until mid-july. cuz of school, exams, etc etc. so they stopped their projects and plan to continue mid-july. thats whats happening if i remember correctly. and im not too sure when 'mid-july' is for them...maybe around like...now. haha *hopefully*
cuz i'm waiting as well!! trying to be patient...with my impatient character haha
i'm soo tempted to watch raw but i find it kinda meaningless if i have NO IDEA on what theyre saying. not to mention kinda spoils it a little lol
but i saw screencaps. gahh. ryo looked so gorgeous <3

Actually, for people living in S'pore, you can find the dvd (with Chi/Malay/Eng subs) in Poh Kim..I just bought mine a few days back. PHEW it took them sooo long I was worried they won't bring it in...so, nice people, please upload for the rest ne! I have zero idea on how to, so sorry! But, I cried all the way, from the 15th mins on..it was packed with all the best scenes from the drama plus additional scenes!! Very very saddddd imagine all of 1LOT condensed into one special!!
And Asou still keeps Aya's phone number in his phone..he even tried calling it to talk to her..but...='( And he kept the dolphin hp acessory on his phone till now! <3 I felt so sad for him!

I'm fairly certain A LOT of people know about her story after they aired the drama and have read her diary entries

Also, Asou is a fictional character that was just inserted into the drama.

Just finish watching it today from youtube.. Gonna catch the special episode later..
Yea gotta agree its really touching and sad.. I'm rather curious and would like to read the original diary myself..
Has anyone watch the movie? Is it just as good? the lead actress isn't erika right?
It's my first japanese drama. I knew it was sad but I didn't know it would be so sad !
I cried at every episode >__<
I was always shivering ;__; It's even more tragic since it's a true story...
The actors were simply incredible (Erika, you rock): the parents, the sisters and the bro, the reactions look so true ;__;
The only detail I didn't like was that Ryo actor. He didn't fit the story (it's obvious that this role is fictional and added specially for the drama) and he has a terrible acting.
The rest is simply great...
