In the recently aired new series "To Catch the Uncatchable", Gilbert Lam plays an insurance sales manager who exchanges sexual favours with rich clients for business and this storyline has incurred the displeasure of the insurance industry, saying that this gives a bad portrayal of insurance professionals and preparing letters of complaint to TVB.

In response to his character being criticised, Gilbert agrees, saying: "Oh? There are complaints? I feel that they should to, but you'd better ask the producer. Making series is just for entertainment, but I do feel there is a problem and they should complain!" He indicates that at the time, he should have been filming another series and when the producer asked him to play the part it was difficult to fit this into his schedule. However the producer talked him round because there were not many scenes and this was an integral part of the story, so he agreed. However, when he received the script, he felt that there was a problem with the storyline and the role, but as he had agreed, he had to carry out his duties and as an artiste, no matter how bad the character is, he still has to play it.

He says: "When I received the script, I did reflect my feelings and asked if we had to take it so far, because there is no evidence that these things do take place in real life and this was taking things too far. I felt uncomfortable and didn't really get into the part when we filmed it. After it was aired, I daren't go out because I am afraid of being scolded in the street. I have a lot of friends who sell insurance products and they have called me for a joke, asking if I needed to do this. I would never have thought that there are still this kind of remarks, this has to be the worst of all the nasty characters I have played."

Gilbert reveals that his friends have complained to him about this role that has upset the insurance industry and as the actor behind the role, he is very apologetic and expresses to everyone: "Please don't be so angry, come to my dessert store and everyone who works for an insurance company can have a 20% discount!"

As for producer Tsui Ching Hong, he says that as "To Catch" is a modern show, then the storyline has a chance of reflecting a certain industry or profession and Dayo Wong's police officer character also has some comedic elements. In every profession there are good people and bad people and Gilbert Lam's bad insurance salesman does not reflect on the industry as a whole. The scriptwriters based this story on articles they had seen in the news and in real life society and in the same light, Ada Choi plays a very hard working insurance professional. He says: "To have such a big response is a little exaggerated, but I can't blame them. However, before airing, the show was passed through TVB's internal censors and they had to approve this before it was allowed to be broadcast."

You can't really blame gilbert for playin the role since all the actors have a contract that they have to follow.......and sometimes they might not have the choice but to take the role

i think gilbert is not a bad actor but depends on which serie he plays in.......i like him playin in the seris of 'the legend of the Yangs' which starr Amy Chan, anyone seen that series? its an old atv serie

He was in The King of Yesterday and Tomorrow as well. It's the first time i've seen him. He's ok i guess not THAT ugly i can think of alot more people uglier than him. His acting is ok but maybe it's because of the roles he gets but in TKOYAT he's ok even though he's sorta playing baddie.

I think he is quite handsome, not ugly at all and he's very tall, which makes him look more suave! I love his character Yelut Ho Nam in ATV series Heroines of The Yang, he and Annie was a very cute couple there!

He was so good with ATV back then. So far I have watched three of his ATV series in which he played main lead or second main lead like Heroines of the Yang, The Good Old Days and The Mad Phoenix, I must say he potrayed his characters very good to excellent in all of them. TVB is waisting talent for not giving him any chance to play main lead sometime.

I don`t think he`s formerly with ATV anymore. He`s filming a new series with for them now. TVB hasn`t been promoting him that much. Usually he plays cameos or supporting roles.



ATV's new situation comedy "Cross Border Daddy" will begin airing on Sunday and this show tells of the pains of being a man. A group of cast members including Gilbert Lam, Joey Meng, Ng Ting Yip, Elena Kong, Andrew Yuen and Eva Shu took part in a promotion on a tram yesterday, riding from Sai Wan all the way to Causeway Bay, being cheered along by the public on the streets. Later the stars handed out souvenir notebooks to the people on the streets causing quite a commotion.

"Cross Border Daddy" is a satirical reflection on society and the class of the cast is quite high in this groundbreaking trial. The story tells of the difference in marital values between people in Hong Kong and the mainland and the changes in lifestyle since the return of Hong Kong to China. The story will be in the format of a sitcom that will have joy and laughter as well as anger and frustration so that every viewer will chuckle to themselves as they watch it.

So he went back to ATV? I think this's good decision. I don't know. Sometimes TVB treats ATV stars pretty well, such as nick cheung or sunny chan. Sometimes it mistreats them. Gilbert lam is one example. He has much more exposure when he's in ATV. In TVB, he's only small supporting casts. Somehow I think his studpid villian case in king of yesterday and tomorrow might be his biggest role in TVB. I'm kinda mad about this. He's good looking and talented but TVB's busy to promote Joe ma and other young actors who can't act at all!

I'm watching Burning Flame 2 right now, just saw him he's pretty funny wqhen he first appears (over reacting when the lift gets stuck) maybe when i see him he wears glasses in BF2 he doesn't and looks kinda creepy.

cmon guys he is a geek!!! that is a plus even if he play bad roles it's hot, if you watched a movie and that acting of that actor or actress made you mad then that is good acting or make you cry or make you experience that kind of extra feelings then that is good acting....of course sometimes stars cant act and that also make you mad...but you know what im saying right? lol im a guy but i think his acting is good, and with the glasses? my gosh all the girls has to like him.

he's definately a bad actor, u can find tons of guys better than this one on the street, not to mention about his appearance, his performances r really really normal, sometimes bad! but this is HK, even the ugliest actor and actress have their fans.....shallow audience makes shallow ugly actor!!

hey do any of you know this movie TITLE where Gilbert liked this one girl (i believe she have a mole in the movie) and after she got bombed or something, he though she was dead but at the end she met him lying around homeless, in other words i believe he lost his family thru the japanese invasion and he thinks that he has lost everything. Then she asked him to be together with her again but he rejected her because....its hard to explain but i like that feeling....i experienced that before. Most people (my friends and neighbors) hate that movie because of the ending... well if you know the title it would be great. Well if you happen to know that actress,which i called "SHe", by her name it would be great. Gilbert looks very polite especially his smiles! He is given many roles in TVB but not really important role!He only get very small role not even supporting role. Hope his luck will change and his hardwork will be rewarded.

Well it's good that he went back to ATV cause now, they're treating very good way better than TVB. He had filmed two series as the main lead ever since he went back to ATV one is Cross Border Daddy and the other is the sequel to it and it has a different name, don't remeber the name since I haven't watched second part, only the first part.

I saw Gilbert Lam in "Dreams come true" (with Wong Mei from ATV 1995) at the first time and I found him sooooooooo damn cute !! Can't anybody remember this serie?? I have this on video cassettes. I agree that he only got bad characters on TVB although he is a great actor and very good-looking (with his glasses)

Gilbert has been my #2 celeb for so long. I call him Sun kor (I always add "kor" for actors that I love, to make them closer to my heart, lol, j/k). Sun kor was a super cute and super good actor. I tend to hate ATV after watching The mad phoenix (Nam Hoi Sap Sum Long) when his character ended pitifully. ^.^ Sun kor looks much better with glasses on; looks smart and witty.

Now that he ages and doesn't get as important roles as before, he seems not to be popular anymore.

Well what i can say is i totally loved him in Heroine of the Yangs... He played his villain role really well. I have to admit that in the beginning i don't really like his role as Ye Lut Honam (due to the obstacles he created for Yang Jong Bo and Mok Graiying)... But when i come to learn about his complicated past, i started to feel sympathy for him. Especially when he shows his nice side and how he loves Pai Fung (Annie Man)... To me those two did a great job as a couple. Good Chemistry...

I do agree that in terms of looks, Gilbert Lam Wai Sun is not the best, and i don't really like him wearing glasses, but i don't want to be to discriminative... so that's why i prefer him in Ancient Fighting dramas instead. I remember watching another drama with Gilbert Lam Wai Sun and Annie Man, acted as a couple as well, but i don't like it that much, probably because they didn't last and Gilbert Lam Wai Sun doesnt look good in there... I think its call "The Chameleon 97". But i watched that after Heroine of the Yangs, even though that one is filmed first. So i was so looking forward as they were a couple... but sadly not as good as them in Heroine of the Yangs.

Not to be to bias but i think the role Ye Lut Honam is really complicated and in order to bring out the best will require some talented actors, and not to say that Gilbert Lam really did a great job as Ye Lut Honam... Probably because he was given so many supportive roles, but being first to given a main role (as in the main villain) really shows his talent.

So Thumbs up for one of my fav actor in ATV and Heroine of the Yangs!!! (he is not so bad)... hahaa

New Topic: Is he cantonese or mandarin???

can someone correct me if Heroine of the Yang is cantonese... because i hate it when ppl told me its mandarin when its not... i mean i believe that atv film both mandarin and cantonese, but what i know is some ppl often mistaken it and always take all shows filmed in atv are mandarin!...

I believe the answer lies in the opening themesong, if it it a cantonese opening than it is cantonese originally, mandarin - mandarin...

For eg. i wont argue that wun jut gat gat is mandarin (that i wont argue!) but Heroine of the Yangs and My Date with a Vampire is originally filmed in cantonese??? am i right. Pls correct me if i am wrong???

I just want to know if Gilbert Lam speaks cantonese... I hope he does... I think he is fluent at both, but which is his main language???
