History

During her study on university she accepted a modelling assignment from a watch company named City Chain and it was this commercial who caught the attention of film director Lee Chi Ngai who cast her in her very first movie (1995), Doctor Mack 《流氓醫生》 starring Tony Leung. The success of the movie brought her a further role in Sixty Million Dollar Man 《百變星君》 starring Stephen Chow which lead her to have another role in Full Throttle 《烈火戰車》 starring Andy Lau and it was this movie she got nominated for Best Newcomer at the Fifteenth Session Of The Hong Kong Film Awards《第十五屆香港電影金像獎》 year 1995.

Entertainment career

Short hair combine with youthfulness and the image like the girl next door is Gigi's image and this was unusual back then and her short hair have been an icon for her since then. Gigi's singing career began in 1996 with her first cantonese debut album Love Myself 《愛自己》(1996) and she was soon loved by Hong Kong and got the best newcomer singer award on TVB JSG 《勁歌金曲》(1996). In 1997 she released her first mandarin debut album Short Hair 《短髮》 (1997) and it turned out to be a big success and it was from this year her popularity rise in both mainland china and Taiwan.
But in 1999 after Gigi had taken part in a musical starring Ekin Cheng, Miriam Yeung and Jordan Chan, she and Ekin developed some feelings for each other and started to date but back then Ekin hadn't publicated the breakup with his girlfriend Maggie Siu which lead for Gigi to be regared as the "third part" and this had a negative impact in her career and leads to a down hill for her career.
However Gigi managed the drought and succeded to have her first own full-scale live concert in 2002 《G for Girl Live 2002》

Gigi Leung Wing-kei (screen name 梁詠琪) (born March 25, 1976) is a Hong Kong singer/actress. Her birth name is Leung Bik Gee (梁碧芝). Because of asthma in 1983 when she was 7, she changed her name to the present name.

She has a twin brother, Leung Wing Chung.

She is recognized not only as a singer, but a song writer and lyricist as well. She is a member of Warner Music Hong Kong.

Gigi Leung is the spokerperson for many organizations like Unicef, WWF ect.

(7/28/2004) Gigi Leung Wing Kei two nights ago attended a radio event. A female fan read to her a love letter that mentioned five years ago her relationship with Dior Cheng Yi Kin and Maggie Siu Mei Kei. "At the time I didn't dare to tell my friends that I like you because my friends would have yelled at me." The fan continued that now that is the past and wished she and Ekin marraige soon.

Hosts I Love U Boyz asked Gigi to sing like Ekin. In other part of the show Gigi appeared in police uniform. "I wanted to be a police officer when I was a little, but because I am too clumsy I changed my mind. I didn't want the crooks to subdue me instead. For the order of the community I stayed around from the police force." Later Gigi had to use "S-Language" (secret language) for Jim to guess what she is saying. Jim said, "I want to marry Cheng Yi Kin." Gigi whined, "I am not playing with you anymore!"
Gigi's new music video LIKE YOU (JEUNG NEI) due to the location conflict with the yet to be released Universe new film SAM CHA HAU has received a legal letter from Universe to prohibit its boradcast. Universe boss lady Mrs. Lam stressed, "I know that when they shot the music video our rental date with the shipyard hasn't ended. We are not sure why our set was used. Now the period has ended, but we have to wait until (William) Cheung Suk Ping to return before deciding when to take apart the set."
The production company revealed that the video shot at other locations as well. Even if the shipyard part is pulled the music video will not be too affected.

This year's Miss Hong Kong pageant final will be taking place this Friday (13th) and a meeting with the judges was arranged for the contestants yesterday. As well as judges Jessica Hsuan and Gigi Leung, MC Natalis Chan and guest performer Hacken Lee were also at the press event. The girls appeared in a range of dress styles, with number 8 Winnie Shum and number 14 Kayee Tsang in the sexiest numbers.

Number 17 Bonnie Cheung and number 4 Jaymee Tang have both returned from Australia to take part in the contest and there have been reports that suggest that they knew each other before the contest, but pretended not to when they met in Hong Kong. The reports also say that Bonnie has strong backing, with veteran artist Sima Yin as her nominator as well as being an active part of the local Chinese community. The two clarified the situation, explaining that they only met each other after returning to Hong Kong and did not know each other before. As for the reports of Bonnie's background in Australia, she explains that as the Chinese community is only small there, so it is easy to meet people. She takes part in many Lion's club activities to expand her experiences.

As well as performing with Hacken at the final, Gigi Leung will also be a judge for the Miss Photogenic award. She admits that there is a great pressure on her because her decision could change the future of one of the girls. After travelling with the 18 girls to Kenya, Gigi says that they have changed a lot after their intensive training, gaining in confidence and having their looks sharpened. As for her criteria for Miss Photogenic, Gigi says that of course she has to look better than everyone else on camera.

Nat appeared at last year's contest wearing his swimming trunks and was criticised by many for his actions. He brought the incident up again yesterday with an air of arrogance as he said: "Wearing my swimsuit was just playing along with the atmosphere, but anyone who does not like me or gets on the wrong side of me will have bad luck, losing their jobs or even their health! This year my wardrobe will total a six figure sum, but who knows if I will still be doing it next year?"

This year's contest will begin by selecting the top eight, who will then be interviewed by the hosts before being eliminated down to four to battle it out for the top three awards. This year's judges will be renowned movie director Johnny To, Jessica Hsuan, Internationally famous violinist Yao Jue and Dr Lee Lok Si. The Miss Photogenic judges will include Jordan Chan, Gigi Leung and Karen Mok. Earlier there were suggestions that Sam Hui might be invited as a special guest judge, but production manager Ho Lai Cheung indicated: "Sam will be involved as a leader of the judges, but we are still discussing the details."

Gigi Leung Wing Kei's end of October play THE GREAT ENTERTAINER (DAI YU LOK GA) has announced the additions of two day shows. She said that she turned down a movie and many Mainland concert opportunities for the show and even hindered her preparation for the end of the year music award rush. However she has thoroughly satisfied her acting bug and improved, which Gigi felt was worth the effort. As for whether she will work on horror films like Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, she said, "No, even if a ghost film without a ghost I am always suspicious. I am afraid that before I can scare anyone I already scare myself. I have so heavy on sunshine, so far no one has offered me a horror film."

(12/2/2004) Gigi Leung Wing Kei yesterday attended a Christmas lighting ceremony. Gigi said that recently she has had respiratory allery and this year she would like a can of fresh air from South Africa for Christmas. "The air is so sweet that it will get you high." She also said that usually she and boyfriend Dior Cheng Yi Kin do not exchange gifts but have planned to go on vacation together. As for Lang Lang's admiration of her, Gigi said, "He is very talented, I look forward to meeting and working with him."

(12/30/2004) Gigi Leung Wing Kei yesterday attended a radio interview. Earlier she worked on her new music video NORTHERN LIGHTS (BUT GIK GUONG) and used ten tons of industrial salt to turn a studio into snow and she spent an almost White Christmas. Gigi invited her Taiwan record label mates to play a couple while she played the Moon Elder because the legend said lovers who have seen the Northern Lights could be together forever. Would she go with boyfriend Dior Cheng Yi Kin to see it? Gigi said that it is one of the places that she would like to go to but it is not easy to get there.

The Gigi Leung Wing Kei, Tsim Shui Man starred musical THE GREAT ENTERTAINER (DAI YU LOK GA) has begun another run on the 21st. Earlier Charlie Yeung Choi Nei and Anthony Wong Yiu Ming went to show and praised Gigi's singing. The new run has changes in costumes and content, especially Gigi's costumes.

Because of all the costume changes and the tight schedule Gigi nearly made an embarrassing mistake. "One night I changed in a hurry and went to the stage, but actully the dress was unbuttoned. I was very calm and when the audience was not paying attention I got the velcros back on." Gigi has also been bruised all over for the show. "Once in a rush I accidentally bumped my left leg and got it bruised and swollen. In one scene I have to kneel, because I knelt too much my knees are all bruises." Although she was covered in bruises, the show's director Lam Yik Wa praised her for her acting improvemet and said that she was more open than last time.

It's gotta have been five years by now...If I remember correctly, the scandal (about people accusing Gigi stealing Ekin from Maggie when they had already broken up in the first place) was around 1999, because Gigi and Ekin were voted most hated on an Internet poll. So, a conservative estimate in my opinion would be five years, but probably more...



Charlie and Anthony are right. I watched the last night of the Great Entertainer when Gigi performs ente'tein and I have to say, I was even impressed as to how well Gigi sang. It was pretty emotional, too, because she started crying toward the end and everyone bursted into applause!

Ya, she's very talented singer and song-writer... I like the song she write for Sammi "Tiu San" & "Lok Cho Che" and one of her song "Han Sam Oi Ngor"...

American queen of jazz Norah Jones on tour in Asia, two nights ago (March 11th) she opened her performance in the Hong Kong convention and exhibition centre. Attracting a lot of local celebrities to attend her show, including: 田北辰, 湯家驊, 吳彥祖 and modeling girlfriend Lisa S., 黃馨平 with husband, 錢慧儀, Gigi Leung, Joey Yung, 林嘉欣, 官恩娜, 黃伊汶, and others. With many celebrities attending, the atmosphere was very lively.

Joey Yung actually is a loyal fan of Norah Jones. She said: since Norah Jones put out her first albums she has started to like, and is very familiar with her songs. She points out: Norah Jones is a album sales champion, a receiver of many awards, besides being envious of her good results within the world of music, she also envies she isn’t ‘able’ to put out 1 album a year like Norah Jones, 慢工出細貨 (quality over quantity); she acknowledges that they both are singers, but difference between them is too big. But, Joey understands the different market circumstances they have to work in. She hopes one day she can bring out an album that’s in style like that of hers. Originally Joey wanted to go backstage and shake her hand, but because of work, she is not yet able to go there to see her idol.

黃伊汶 specially came to see Norah Jones’concert, letting her know, even if it rained she said: she would still have come to learn from her.

i am aso fans of gigi since she released her 1st album...it feels good to know that there are people who supports her as well...whenever i tell friends that i like her,they always give me a weird look...

yeah,she has improved a lot as compared to her 1st 2 years in the entertainment industry...and i was really happy for her when she start getting recognition for singing....i even cried when i saw her receiving her award in one of the HK award music presentation...she waited for 6-7 years for ppl to notice her...(i know that is not long as compared to some singers who waited even longer)....did u saw that award presentation?...it was in 2003...even until now i still remembered wat she said when she went up to receive her award....it is so touching...

i guess her recent dramas like 'driving miss wealthy' (jut sai ho bun), her acting was good there alongside lau ching wan..i find that really hilarious and funny...i wished she get to act in a drama soon because i tink her ability to act is not to be downplayed as well...altho her appearance in 'the last breakthrough' was only for a few minutes,i still love watching her...

The first train with Gigi Leung Wing Kei's likeness on it became its operation last Sunday on the Kwun Tong line of the MTR. Gigi's image is inside and outside the train with four different looks, adventurer, woman in love, gypsy lady and artist.

The train will run for a month. Gigi expressed that she would try to get a chance to ride it. She has already asked her family and friends to ride the MTR more. If they see her train they will take pictures of her.

yes she has made a lot of accomplishments but she is not the best singer... i dont think she is pretty but she is tall... when she sings there is no power but she is very talented at being a lyricist... she has written many great songs for other artists so i think she should stick to that.
Some people are born to do other things... one thing is for sure she can sing way better than yumiko

Gigi Leung Wing Kei earlier worked on a skin care product ad campaign. During the shoot she had to keep her hands raised for six hours straight. During the break she not only did not rest her hands but also did her assistant's nails.

On the day of the shoot, Leung Wing Kei had to hold a balloon and make different poses. After the shoot Leung WIng Kei flew to Taiwan to promote her new Mandarin record.
