Wow great of you to find those pictures together. But personally I dont think there is anything wrong with reusing the costums. Because I actually dont even mention it, maybe it just look similar to me, but I wont be able to come up with who has ever worn it before. And if TVB got new costums all the time for every new serie, how big would their wardrobe been..
jadedreams27
I also don't think it matters. It's not a big deal to me, but it impresses me that a lot of people think it is. It doesn't ruin the storyline for me just because so and so is wearing a costume that another person or character wore like five years ago. What are we watching? Their looks or the character and series itself?

Besides, different people give a different image in the clothes. Just because it's old, doesn't mean it looks bad on someone else. Like for the picture of Anne, she looks elegant pretty (maybe because she has an elegant look), but Michelle Yip looks like a Chinese beauty in the same outfit.
athlon
I think the time that there are dozens of costumes to wear for the actors/actresses are gone.

In the 80s the stars get a costume costum made for them. A good example is the famous Legend Of The Condor Heroes 80's. Barbara Yung as Wong Yung got so many costumes that they got totally confused and her costume changed from scene to scene.

Now they have one big "accesoires"-room and if you got a costume that fits that age and your size, you'll get it... are these costumes not so fancy? yup.
dragonken
well, it is nothing serious abt tht. it is normal i guess they cant just use it for once , inorder to save cost they hv to reuse. they might think tht we will hv tht good memory to remeber who wear wht is which serious.
nssoso
i think they re-arange the costumes so we cannot recognise them !! and yeah it's quite normal to use them again, there's nothing wrong in doing this because every serie's budget is quite limited !
VeRn3
well spotted!!! i never thought or notice it. i only noticed TVB uses the same cars all the times!!! hahahaha
Eight_8
ya TVB always use the same things over and over again ! too lazy zzzz
halo2289
yea, i noticed that too...it would cost too much to make new costumes for everyone each time they film a new drama...but i think for the bigger productions, they make custom-fit costumes for the characters
lb-lb
Yeah, I've noticed that too and whenever I saw it on tv I would like 'isn't that been worn before?' I don't mind it but I find it funny.

I actually prefer the costumes in the 80s more. They look so much better.
Onigiri
well... i dont see anything wrong. it'll too much of a waste not to re-use costumes.. imagine how much they'd spend for every single series they make!

on the other hand, i think they should re-use costumes... they have so many costumes!! imagine how much fabric would be wasted!
muizi
theres actually more than what the 1st post listed...

with the series that ann heung acted as "yeung guai fei"? her costume was repeatedly used too..

and i noticed with the most recent ..... real kung fu series..... the "biu goh" thats in <3 with the princess// "gak gak" his costume was used not only bsidez the series where louis koo starred in as a 4th prince..... "keen lung dai dy" .... i dunno the english series names but it was definitely reused numerous times!!
Gloomy
well though it's okay to reuse costumes but they should invest the money to make new ones.
diq_qs
lol, good find, I myself never notice about this before, and I don't think it's a matter, as long as it doesn't being used continuously.
rOsie_pig
lol i realised some of them wearing the same costume .... also in other series like in Whatever it Takes the costume that Tavis wears was also worn by Selina Li in A Herbelist Manual.... and the costume that Michelle Yip wore in Lofty Waters Verdent Bow was also worn by Gigi Lai in War and Beauty in one of the scenes ....
FantasyMania
Thanks for the researched, I totally agree with you about them reusing ancient costumes, TVB ain't poor but can't be bother to order new costumes for their series, I bet they think its a waste of money. harhar.gif

Somehow its alright if they don't reuse it 3 or four times, then it gets boring. The costumes for the brothers in Ten Brothers seems new but again they are mens costumes, they looks all the same. Some costumes looks good on a particular person but it might not suit others ie. the costume on Ada is nice but doesn't on Michelle Ye. cluebat.gif
Bahbah123
Lol yep I never noticed it either. But TVB has to start investing in more customes.
JaseT
Well, TVB can't spend thousands of dollars to get new costumes. It wouldn't make sense to do it anyway. If the costumes don't ruin the story line then it wouldn't really matter.
j a n e
it doesn't really matter if the costumes look nice. i think they really should reuse some of the old costumes more since in many of the recent ancient series i watched the clothes look like they are made from rags.
silveria
If it's a bad series, even if they have the BEST costume designers, and expensive costumes for all the actors and actresses, its just a waste of money.
BLUE FiSHY XD
i find that acceptable.. u cant really have a different costume for every single series. its just too expensive and too stupid in a way.. its also a waste too!! also .. if u hav noticed, they dont reuse the clothes like one after another..they reuse it after a couple of series.
meochun
I've never really realised that either, it doesn't matter anyway the costume is used to help potray the character and maybe certain costumes can portray many different characters.
I more realise about sets and houses they use in shows the costumes.
maryxb
i never knew they reused that much. i only noticed michelle and ada's costums being reused!
endlessjoy
Yeah, I've been noticing it too, but TVB has its reasons I guess, they need to find ways to save money and the clothing are pretty, it would be a waste to only use it once, lolz.
xosugarcrushox
i have noticed it but i think it's okay because those clothes are just really expensive in general...and besides...if it's still good...why let it go to waste? i personally want those ones with the really big sleeves in the ancient series... they're prettyyy :]
Yuiki
wow this is pretty interesting... I know they reuse it but you actually got the pictures and comparing it so cool. heheheee
aznkingboy
wow not bad XDbut..err.it look cheap XD
botan
TVB have been recycling costumes for long long time now. I just rewatched a few 80s series and noticed that the actors/actresses rewore some costumes from other actors/actresses in other series.
GhstDreamer
I think it's fine to reuse a costume - it would be too expensive to make so many different costumes for so many series. I don't find it distracting at all.
crunchster
usually..the costumes are FIRST Worn by the main/leading actors and actresses..
then you will see them worn by kee ley fe's
tvbblock
well different people wears it differently. sometime they just match it with different outer wear and hair do, sometimes you didn't notice the differences
suki.L
i dont think it matters if they reuse their costumes . i mean , it would get really pricey to keep making new costumes for every production and most viewers wouldn't even notice that they reuse their costumes . i certainly didn't catch it .
llwy12
Haha! The pictures are funny -- didn't realize that alot of the customs were re-used...never really noticed.

I'm actually ok with ancient costumes being re-used because honestly no one really notices (probably because TVB doesn't make enough ancient series in a year for people to remember)...also, there are some variations that can be done to the same outfit, such as adding certain accessories or doing something with the hairstyles. Plus ancient costumes are expensive to make, so from an economical standpoint, it's understandable.

What actually annoys me more is when outfits don't match from one scene to the next in modern series. I've seen quite a few series where particular scenes are supposed to be continuous, but it's obvious that TVB shot the scenes separately, since the characters are wearing different outfits. For example, they'll have a scene where someone is standing right in the lobby area of an office knocking on the manager's door -- the character is wearing a black skirt in the scene -- then when the manager says "come in" and the character walks into the office, she is all of a sudden wearing black pants (or in some cases the outfit changes completely)....true, not everyone notices these types of inconsistencies (and they may be very minor in comparisons to everything else in the series), but I always seem to notice them and sometimes it can be a little distracting.
xtremecold
I don't have an issue with costumes being reused, but I do have issues with the characters that they reuse certain costumes on. For instant, if a customes is used for the first time on a lead character and it is tailored to fit that actor/actress so it looks really good (even if it was a potatoe sack), but for the second time around they reuse the exact costume on a secondary character who doesn't have the same body type as the first then it becomes awkward looking cause the outfit does not have the right fit and on screen it can look frumpy.
darkboyz
For me it is still acceptable because they are on different people, and at least the accessories are not the same.
