woah complete inactivity after i left i was hoping to see this place a little more alive. i promised to post my translations of the Angel's Heart Monthly article and i will do it asap i assure you. as for now, i wont leave this place w/o leaving a trail either.

Someone sent me an email and asked me to pray for her. It read," I can't shake off this burden . I haven't been able to give up to God. I'm sad about it and know that I must hand it over to Him and be transformed. I truly need God's strength to rid myself of it . I know that only God can calm me with peace and clean me if I let it. I just must choose to let it."

COVER STORY: MAGGIE CHEUNG - FOUND THE BEST DOCTOR ON EARTH

Two years ago, one of TVB top fa-dans Maggie Cheung Ho Yee went on a hiatus, a temporary departure from the entertainment scene because of her illness. today, as she makes her comeback to the circle, the media is eagerly competing to get hold of an interview with her, following closely her latest progess and happenings. but she simply expressed that she has just entered a new phase of her life. the two words 'Comeback' brings a lot of pressure to her, because maggie has never considered retiring (at least not now). it's just that, in the past, her health was at stake, she worked day and night and her body finally couldn't take it further, so like a machine, she broke down. she was emotionally taxed as well, and badly needed a break to put things in place again. whether it was her physiological or psychological health, she was obviously overstretched.

but now, she feels as though she has been given a new lease of life, a second chance to live life the way she truly wants it to be. persistence and determination were beliefs she held in pursuit of her ideals, and her illustrious career. but today, she will no longer allow her health to be in jeopardy and her family at stake. all these most precious things in her life, she will not exchange them for anything else. a long while since she last appeared, but the maggie now exudes a whole new appeal, and a very different kinda joyous smile.

Ho Yee has been in the entertainment circle for more than 10 years. every year, the audience gets to watch her in the various lead roles she portray in the different serials. in 2003, maggie won best actress with her excellent portrayal of Lu Si Niang in The King of Yesterday and Tomorrow at the TVB Anniversary Award Show. two years ago, she ventured into the mainland (China) market with her debut Chinese drama, Songs of Everlasting Sorrow (Chang Hen Ge), as Wang Qi Yao (female lead). at the end of that year (2005), maggie was plagued by thyroid problems, hence leaving her with no choice but to decline the role offered by TVB in a 100-epsiode long drama, and went on a temporary hiatus to recuperate.

[BRANDED WATCHES DON'T BRING JOY]

her illustrious career was at an all-time high, but everything had to come to a halt all of sudden. of course, it came as a huge blow to her, not exactly something you could've imagined. maggie remarked, 'it struck me like a bolt from the blue. just when i wanted to do a little more, when i thought i could manage a little more, my poor health hit me. it was like right smack in the middle of nowhere, in my face, the harsh reality i had to embrace. my life underwent a 360-degree complete transformation. i felt as though i was running at full speed, and forced to a stop abruptly. like a smooth-sailing boat, riding through the storm, filled with hopes and dreams, but unexpectedly capsized. i never knew i could be this vulnerable. in face of this major setback, i was tramautised and in disbelief. sinking into devastation, i cried so many times i lost count, i begged god for an answer but to no avail.'

for all these years, all maggie had in sight was her career path. but in light of her ill health, all those ideals and achievements she slogged for, disintegrated into nothingness. but all those days when she clad in branded outfits, rode in luxury cars, attended exclusive functions, she never once gained happiness in its most genuine form. maggie expressed, 'deep down in my heart, i was never contented and happy though i had all those material needs. no matter how hard i worked, i could never find the happiness i really wanted. on one occasion, i bought a branded watch priced at a few thousand dollars, but that excitement only lasted for 3 hours or so. after a meal, i completely forgot about that watch. in fact, i couldn't even recall i was once happy over it. as you can see, that so-called 'joy' was just in a very superficial sense.'

the maggie in the past seemed to have everything she needed, but not everything she wanted. she had an empty soul that sought to be filled with her heart's desires. she said, 'it's as though my soul was cleansed and filled in the past 2 years. for 10 years i spent filming and acting, my mind was never at rest, my brain never stopped working, the only thing before me was my work, my goals. i didn't bother about anything beyond my own world. all i knew was that, the more work the merrier. even if anything cropped up, i wanted to resolve it on my own, based on my own capability. as such, i often lost sleep because of stress and anxiety. finally i realised, there's a limit to one's ability.'

being away from the scene for 2 years, the maggie we see now is so much more radiant. her life seemed to have taken a turn for the better. so what's the driving force which rendered her strength to embrace the joys of life again?

[ENCOUNTER WITH GOD DURING HER RETREAT]

maggie expressed that, 'during my struggle with the illness, all i could do was to heed the doctor's advice, go on a holiday overseas, relax my body and soul. when i was Singapore, my friend stayed by my side 24hours. besides accompanying me everywhere to enjoy and have fun, she introduced a group of church friends to me. they were warm, friendly, and especially caring towards me when they knew of my sickness. they showered me with love, encouragement and hope. regardless of how depressed and despondent i was, they prayed for me.'

maggie attended catholic school when she was young, but her knowledge of god and religion was mediocre. she never really understood if god really existed. maggie said, 'the people around me didn't tell me what religion was all about, what purpose it served.' after stepping into the working world, she was brought up and taught to adopt the standard operating procedures at work: offering incense and prayers before official filming of a drama, visiting the 4-faced buddha at Bangkok is a must, attending church with colleagues during Christmas, praying to Che Gong on the third day of Lunar New Year. fortune-telling, matching birth characters, fengshui, etc, she tried them all. she said jokingly, 'its as if i'm very superstitious, pretty amusing!'

her roots of origin can be traced to Guang Dong Tai Shan, but in 1991 she returned from England after her tertiary studies and now reside in HongKong. She used to be from this 4-member girl band named PPGirls. in 1994, she participated in Ms Hong Kong and was crowned the contestant with 'Most Acting Potential'. from then now, she was signed on to TVB as an artiste.

in 1997, she got her breakthrough role as Chen Bao Zhu (Chan Po Chu) in Old Time Buddy, her groundbreaking performance won many audience's hearts. having been casted as female lead in uncountable dramas, including A Road and A Will, A Recipe For The Heart, Old Time Buddy - To Catch A Thieft, Plain Love II, The Sky is the Limit, The Awakening Story, Burning Flame II, Ups and Downs in the Sea of Love, Better Halves, War & Beauty, The Conqueror's Story, etc.

during that period when maggie was in Singapore, she was moved by the selfless love showered upon her. she mentioned, 'the friends at church taught me to read the bible and pray, taught me how to embrace god, how to perceive setbacks and obstacles in life. they guided me to lead life following my heart's desires, trained my patience and reaffirmed my beliefs. i gradually learned to let go of some of my ideals, cast them aside unconsciously, then a little more, bit by bit, eventually i learned to put everything in the hands of god. i attained peace and serenity with my inner self, a state of tranquility i've never experienced before. i became a much happier and optimistic person, no longer bugged by insecurity and anxiety.'

subsequently, a friend of maggie invited her to return to Singapore to be baptised. she was very apprehensive about it. she said, 'i'm aware that baptism isn't a joke, it's a lifelong committment. given my bold nature, i made a few wishes and promised myself that if all of them came true, i'll really believe that this is god's call. true enough, they all came true. all my requests were acceded. and he made me see this really impactful statement: Stubborn pride will cause you a great loss of treasure in life!' with that, maggie returned to Singapore without hesitation and was baptised.

[I'M TRULY BLESSED...]

after being baptised in April 2006, maggie didn't recover immediately, she still required time to rest and recuperate. but, more importantly, she learned not to worry excessively. instead, she waited patiently, for her health to be restored. the words in the bible rendered her strength and courage, and allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of the many facets of life. she saw people more unfortunate than her, people living in greater misery. as she looked back now, maggie realised this illness was god's gift to her. it was his way of helping her search for her most cherished posessions in life.

I'm so glad that she's still so optimistic after all the health issues that has happened. It really must've been a way for her to see it all through a new light. I'm happy she gained something more from this illness and that she's almost completely fine now.

Also can't wait to see her in a new series once she has fully recovered. I think from now onwards she won't be over-stressing and over-working as she has her health to think about. But no pressures Maggie!!!

Yes, thanks for posting all those news! I am also very ahppy for Maggie that she had gained so much out of her misfortune. I question whether her illness was a misfortunate thing or a fortunate one? To be more optimistic, I say its a fortunate case from a misfortunate one. God Bless Maggie, and I hope she'll gain even more in the near future. Hope all her wishes comes true!

maggie expressed that what's most satisfying and gratifying in the past 2 years would be her freedom to travel all over the world, 'to be able to cast my celebrity status aside, tour the countries i always desired, walk along the streets where no one knows who maggie cheung is, brings great pleasure. but what's most memorable was the fact that some asian-based foreigners managed to recognise me on the streets. they didn't want to bother or disturb me, so they didn't approach me at that time. but later on, they emailed over the net to let me know, they were so nice people, so sweet of them! i toured many destinations, including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and visited their churches as well. it was quite an eye-opener for me. i was so surprised to see some churches with such a large scale, beautiful environment with youths all radiant and energetic! just listening to the performers on stage is mersmerizing enough. he seems so near yet so far, so immersed you don't really wish to leave.'

'i discovered the value of being ordinary and the worth of a common life. the significance of health and its benefits. to cherish the little things in life and to be thankful for what we have. i learned them all unknowingly. i did many things i never thought i would or had the time to do in the past. i spent a lot more quality time with my family. as my lifestyle took a turn for the better, my entire life was changing as well. i've gained so much more experiences money can't buy, been through one hurdle after another but emerged stronger and more confident after each struggle.

this physical disorder was more of a gift rather than an adversity. it was predestined, not by chance. i dare say, i'm immensely blessed. i've found the best doctor on earth, granted the most cherished experiences. once lost and stranded, i found my way in the light of darkness. i used to rely on others' judgments and perceptions, led a life based on others' expectations and wishes. in pursuit of fame and wealth, i never knew of contentment. but after my encounter with god, that old maggie of the past has been abandoned and thrusted aside.'

in reality, everything in this world seems to be assessed by the amount of wealth and authority. our principles and beliefs are no longer of paramount importance. our perspectives are distorted, and our minds polluted. many people lost their real purpose in life unconsciously. maggie revealed, 'the more you own, you'll realise the more restrictions you have over your life, to bug you, and cause unnecessary anxiety or stress. on the contrary, if you learn how to let go of some things in life, you'll discover more, appreciate more, do more for others, and in turn enjoy more bliss. to be rich not in monetary terms, but in terms of spiritual well-being, that's more invaluable!'

[MAGGIE STARTS ANEW]

before us is a whole new maggie cheung, dressed in simple yet neat attire, presenting her most heartwarming smile. she explained, 'I learned to retain the most valuable, and forsake the unnecessary complications. for example, if the path before me is a narrow lane, i'll try to shrivel, shrink, or compress myself (not in the literal sense of course) to get through it. (in other words, she's saying that she'll change to adapt to the circumstances. just as circumstances change people, people can change circumstances too) 2 years ago, i worry about everything in life. 2 years later, i realised i'm not lacking in anything, everything i once worried about never occurred. i guess the hitches and glitches in life are like doors, leading us to new beginnings. each time we bypass that door, we understand something more about life, and that leads us to another pathway - the route to happiness. '

god didn't turn his back on maggie when she was thrown into hopelessness, instead he gave her a new lease of life, restored her courage to begin the journey all over again. in preparation of her return to the glitzy stage, is the whole new maggie ready for it? she responded, 'today, i'm very grateful to be given the privilege to gain enlightenment and maturity in thought. this sickeness seemed to have taxed me quite a lot on the surface, but unexpectedly, it brought me so much bliss. it imparted knowledge and rendered me confidence to face life and what's ahead. i don't have to worry anymore, all i have to do is to follow my heart and the path mapped for me. learn to place the things i have no control over in the hands of god, to attain emotional security. in no time, i'll be starting work and coming up with some fine productions for everyone!'

第十二話　張可頤 小美，原名梁美薇，80年代中期出道的香港女填詞人，曾於《勁歌金曲》擔任編導，並為羅文、張國榮、Beyond、王傑、李克勤等寫過多首經典流行歌曲，曾憑《幾許風雨》在第9屆「香港電台十大中文金曲」摘得「最佳填詞獎」，是首位獲得此獎項的女填詞人。93年小美成為郭富城的經理人，一直至今。 人與人之間的相知相遇，真的是帶點機遇和緣份，認識張可頤，更引證這句話真確不誤！ 在5個月前，張可頤給我的印象，大概是：一個很知名的電視女演員、演技不俗、得過「視后」、在新聞角度上是個頗具個性的女藝人，就此而已！再加上大家工作的範疇不同，真的從沒想過會跟她成為朋友！ 主動致電薦氣功師 但奇遇就發生在5個月前的一個晚上，我正為母親的病端坐在醫院憂心躊躇的當兒，一位跟我和可頤共同認識的朋友給我來了一通電話，問道：「小美，我知張可頤認識了兩位氣功醫師，把她的甲狀腺病治好了，你想想可對伯母有點幫助？」我的心立時暖了一下，即應道：「好！試！我想試，能即刻相約嗎？」友人說：「好，我即找可頤盡力聯絡！」不消半句鐘，我的電話響了，傳來一把陌生但摯誠的聲音，說：「小美，我是張可頤，我已聯絡好兩位氣功醫師，希望能幫上伯母一把！」我答道：「哦！好！謝謝你！但明天能來嗎？」可頤說：「已約好了，明天早上見，別太擔心！」 減輕痛苦安詳離世 翌日，我佇立在醫院的電梯旁，靜候我的「心生機」和張可頤這位古道熱腸的新朋友。 首遇張可頤，見她回復清麗外形，一身休閒便服陪同兩位氣功醫師急步到來，我們相視笑了一下，就進了病房，兩位醫師沒說半句話，已立時對我母親進行治療，而看得出她們都在竭盡心力，令我在無助的當兒感到暖意無限！ 而在兩位醫師接連的治療下，母親的病是有了些起色，面色轉好了，甚或能輕倚床、以及微微進食，甚或千叮萬囑我要上班，令我曾心寬下來一陣子，及後，因為母親始終年老，又出了一些狀況，最後在兩位醫師不離不棄治療下，減了許多痛苦而安詳地走了！而我在極度悲痛中對她們仍感激不已！ 宗教支撐學懂助人 由是這般，我和張可頤及兩位醫師就交上了朋友，記得那夜在醫院最傷痛的當兒，我們一起捧混和了淚水的粥，大家都嚥不下，她們都努力地為我打氣，可頤更將她走在低谷的日子的堅忍向我一一道來，和分享她在信仰上的得，令我驀然地對這個只曾透過「電視」見面的朋友，有了另一層的認識。 也許因一次大病，令張可頤有「死裏逃生」的經歷，加上得到宗教的支撐，她康復後並不是立時要甚麼大紅大紫，反而是訂立了一個「可以幫人就幫人」的理念，令我油然另眼相看！我跟她素未謀面，只因一位共同朋友的牽引，她也全力幫忙我去聯絡醫師，抱「救得一命得一命」的心懷，內心善良得不得了，頗令人刮目相看！

Two years ago, Maggie Cheung Ho Yee was struck with a thyroid illness after filming mainland series, "Everlasting Regret" 《長恨歌》. Her face became swollen for a lengthy period. After an extended break, Maggie returned to TVB earlier and hosted the Mr. Hong Kong 2007 contest.

To ensure that Maggie will be in her best form, she has been eating eight meals per day.

Maggie recently signed with Aaron Kwok's manager, Siu Mei. Maggie was spotted shopping at the IFC mall with her assistant. She wore heavy make-up while shopping for household items.

Maggie attracted the attention of numerous shoppers, who complimented on her beauty. This made Maggie quite happy and she said to reporters, "I will be posing for some photographs later. Since there is a break before shooting begins, I decided to go shopping."

Maggie does look gorgeous in the evening gown! Its been such a long time since I've seen her in a public event. I was unfortunate, therefore unable to watch her co-host the 2007 Mr. HK show. But according to the pictures, she looks mighty healthy and she's definitely in better shape both inside out compared to her a year+ ago. I'm extremely pleased to see her up and running again.

I agree with you lafesagame, Maggie looks gorgeous in the gown, but she looks alot happier and healthier when she's in her casual wear. her in these gowns makes her an idol, her in her casual wears makes her a "friend!" Its a shame that there's that space bw fans and the stars, but that's not something a little work and alot of love cannot shed!

Maggie will be holding a Fans' Gathering in HK this coming October 6, 2007 - This would not only be a usual gathering, but this would also be a charity event. All profits made on the event would be forwarded to some house of charity (of Maggie's chosing).

Maggie has designed and is still working on making little toy figurines to represent her many genres of characters that she had portrayed over the years. These "dollies" would be put on display on the day of the gathering/charity (what would happen exactly, I'm not sure of) but please do, check hoyee4u.com and Maggie's blog if you may have questions.

I can't go to the charity event too. It's like sometime in between my exams and my mother just won't let me go. I wish Maggie will come up with her own brand of toys. It'll be so cool and it will be available in lots of countries and all of us will be able to buy it! Heh. But I feel that she should also take note of the expressions of the toy figures. It's like... The expression for the figurine for the OTB kind of don't match that innocent character in the show.

I think they wrote the heavy makeup because it will sound like Maggie has some new stuff going on. Maggie don't normally wear heavy makeup when she's out right? Hahaha.

You are correct! Maggie should've given the dollies a more suitable facial expression. The one fot OTB looks kind of mean, with the lifted eyebrows - definitely not the sweet and innocent look her character has in the series. But hey, this is an un-professional's design. I'll give here 100% props for making it look the way it does. ITS CUTE!

Amy - likes pre-modern, lighthearted, family-drama (she likes to play the mother-figure, I dont see why not, she's amazing at that!)
Maggie - she likes to explore her capablities... Again, great, its hard to get boring of her acting, bc she's always trying new things (unlike some unnamed actresses - *cough, cough, cough* <- Jessica)

But overall, I must be honest to say, I enjoy watching more Amy series than Maggie's. But I love them both for their own character either way. So they're both my "most admired actresses" - I'll ditch the word idol since Maggie doesnt like to be seen as an idol.

WHOAAA, why are you so shocked that I am not chinese? HAHA, being chinese or not doesnt make me any more or less capable of having admire someone so much for their humanitarian character and excellence in the entertainment world, correct? Yes, I get left out in forums and websites that are designed for Chinese speaking natives, but I've always found my way around - reading the news is a pleasure in itself. I need not part-take in the conversations, though of course, if I was capable. That'll be no exceptions for me - as you may see, I'm very long-winded.

Heh. Maggie's going to be my one and only favourite actress. And I'm busy enough going crazy over her. One really cool thing is that I seem to be always dreaming of her. Hahaha.

I just find it amazing that non chinese will watch cantonese shows and all. Yup. It doesn't make any difference. When I first started watching the show, I didn't understand cantonese at all. So I had to read the subtitles but now I can at least get the rough idea of what they are talking about.

You dream about Maggie? Honest to say, I've prob have a handful of dreams about meeting Maggie. The one I remembered most vividly is the one that I met her at the Taj Mahal in NJ, where I live. HAHA, I remember there's this picture Maggie took, right in front of the building, I too, took a pic on the same location. As closed to the spot Maggie was on, as I could possiblily get. HAHA, that was a funni experience!

It's actually not rare to see non-Chinese idolizing Chinese actors and actresses. Especially it being Vietnamese. Even statistic would show that Chinese and Vietnamese are normally conjointed and linked in many areas of studies. If you really think about it, most Chinese-related stuff would always be translated into Vietnamese. HAHA, that's just the way it goes. Notice, many Vietnamese words derives from the Chinese words. Also most Vietnamese customes are driven from the Chinese culture. Therefore, we are basically very similar. That's why when I watch Chinese series (un-dubbed, with English subtitles) I can actually understand a VERY ROUGH idea of what's happening.

But let me assure you, I'm planning to take Mandarin courses in school this coming summer. I'm so excited about that, because I've always been in love with the Chinese language and culture. This summer should be an interesting one!

Yes, didn't Maggie mentioned MASS PRODUCTION? I was like, "wait, isnt it a limited edition figurine?" <- it confused me a bit! Nah. I didn't take part in the translation. It's just that when I let my friend read the webby, he kept on commenting about the translation and he even wanted to write in to ask if he could be the editor. But in the end, he didn't because he was worried that it would take up too much of his time. He isn't a fan of Maggie's. It's just that he wanted the experience. Hahaha.

最 近 宣 布 全 面 復 工 接 拍 新 劇 及 廣 告 的 張 可 頤 ， 日 前 已 率 先 為 新 廣 告 秘 密 開 工 。 當 日 下 午 約 三 時 ， 一 身 悉 心 打 扮 的 張 可 頤 於 兩 名 工 作 人 員 陪 伴 下 ， 於 銅 鑼 灣 排 隊 等 的 士 ， 雖 然 現 場 有 不 少 途 人 對 她 眼 望 望 ， 但 張 可 頤 卻 未 有 理 會 ， 只 顧 不 停 傾 電 話 。 上 車 後 三 人 直 往 大 坑 一 大 廈 後 巷 拍 攝 ， 張 可 頤 為 免 造 型 曝 光 ， 除 急 急 腳 步 入 後 巷 ， 現 場 更 以 白 布 包 圍 。

可頤在助手的陪同下等的士，不時左顧右盼邊傾電話。

年前張可頤因病停工，休養約一年的她最近已狀態回勇，還即將全面復出接拍新劇及廣告。雖然可頤稍後才正式接拍新劇，但養精蓄銳的她日前已秘密復工拍攝新廣告。

當日下午約三時，可頤在兩名女工作人員護駕下由銅鑼灣乘的士到大坑拍攝，等的士期間雖然有不少途人認得出她，但可頤卻未有理會，只見她頻頻用免提裝置煲電話粥。當到達拍攝現場時，可頤甫落車即由工作人員帶往附近的寓所預備，半小時後才到一條後巷埋位拍攝。工作人員更用白布包圍現場，以免廣告曝光。(太陽報)

【on.cc專訊】 張可頤出席《TVB高清數碼廣播全面睇》活動時笑言，感情生活已破產多年：「都破咗幾年喇！雖然有人追，不過我比較慢熱，慢慢等真命天子啦！（擔唔擔心年紀大？）唔擔心，人生仲好有色彩！」

最近她與無綫斟洽拍劇，對於進入高清新紀元，她並不擔心：「肉眼見到乜就乜啦！冇人係完美！」
