[The Sun & Oriental Daily]

Maggie Cheung has seen good friend Elaine Ng living in Shanghai for so long and having some peaceful days with her daughter and so her wish for the new year is to move to Shanghai. Maggie says: "I feel that Shanghai is very suitable for Hong Kong people to live and Elaine seems very happy after living there for a few years, so I hope that in the new year I can emigrate there!"

With reports that Benny Chan sent flowers from across the seas to Charmaine Sheh for her birthday and arranging to return to Hong Kong for the new year, rumours have arisen that touched by his sincerity, Charmaine has agreed to marry him, but has pushed the date of the wedding to mid-2005 in order to maintain her career. However the two are not responding to questions from the press.

Having just returned from filming with Charmaine in Beijing, Maggie was asked if she knew of anything and she responded saying she had not heard about it at all. Responding with a shocked expression, Maggie says: "Really? They are just rumours aren't they? I don't know - I don't sleep under their bed, how would I know?"

Undercover lovers Maggie Cheung and Samm Chan have been sighted holidaying romantically in Phuket, but Maggie still denied that she had been there when she returned to Hong Kong, even though all her luggage labels showed the flight details for Thailand.

Maggie and Samm had earlier announced their split, but there have been continuous rumours that they have still been dating in private to avoid any effect this may have on Maggie's career. Ordinarily, for Maggie to go on holiday with a friend is no big story, but a reader called in with information earlier that whilst on holiday in Phuket, they had spotted Maggie there with a man and the couple seemed quite close as they shared some happy times. The reports also came that Maggie would be returning on flight CX702 from Bangkok and after some research by the reporters, it was found that Maggie had booked four tickets for this flight, but in the end only two of the passengers had boarded - Maggie and Samm.

At around 10:33 pm, Maggie was supposedly to have returned to Hong Kong, but she only appeared at the airport at 11:15, pushing a trolley laden with her luggage and leaving with two friends. When she was asked by the press where she had returned from, she replied: "The mainland, I went for three days. (For leisure?) Half work, half leisure. (Stage show?) Yes." When it was mentioned to her that she had been seen in Phuket having fun with a male, she responded nervously: "Tokyo! With a few guys. (Tokyo?) Yes, I went to a few places - Tokyo and Shanghai included. (You didn't go to Phuket?) Yes. (Do we know these guys?) No. (From outside the industry?) Yes."

However, it could clearly be seen from Maggie's luggage labels that she had been travelling on CX702 from Bangkok. It appears she was lying and had forgotten to destroy the evidence, but no-one can understand why she needs to do this. After saying goodbye to her friends, Maggie left alone by taxi to return to her Sai Kung home. Boyfriend Samm Chan had not appeared at all, possibly sneaking away when the press spotted Maggie. On the telephone later, he said: "I was in Singapore over the new year with friends and did not go to Phuket. Who saw me in Phuket? (Did Maggie go to China or Phuket?) I don't really care where she went, if she said the mainland, then it was. In any case, I did not go."

Maggie Cheung made a trip earlier to Shanghai and Phuket in Thailand, but despite rumours of sightings in Phuket, when she returned to Hong Kong, she denied having been there and was faced with reports that she was lying to the press. Yesterday, Maggie revealed photographs of her in a bikini in Phuket and said: "In fact from beginning to end I had never denied going to Phuket, I feel that going on holiday is a happy thing, so I took a lot of photos to share with everyone when I got back, but as soon as I got back I was faced with questions about whether I was petting with a man in Phuket. I found this to be rather rude and surprising, so I didn't want to respond very seriously to you and thought that I would be witty with you and say that I was on the beach with a Kenyan prince! Then I am branded as being a liar, that just makes me so frustrated."

When asked if she was with Samm Chan, she laughed: "There were a lot of friends with me, Shanghai boyfriend and Thailand boyfriend as well."

[Oriental Daily]

Maggie Cheung has had a lot of news recently and a magazine has recently reported that she has met a fashion store owner boyfriend Ricky and linking him in a four party love affair with Maggie, Tung Bo and Samm Chan. Yesterday, Maggie was filming in TKO TVB City for new series "Proud Heroes of Chu and Han" and as reporters joked about her three 'followers', Maggie said: "I don't like people saying things like that because it makes me seem like I am playing the field and I will soon have no friends. You are always repeating old stories, even writing about Ricky, which is totally unbelievable." In fact, Ricky is Maggie's image designer and he has his own fashion outlet. Many other artistes have employed him as image consultant and Maggie became good friends with him after they hit it off. Earlier they even went to Thailand together before going to a female friend's birthday party on their return. They were earlier photographed buying a present together. As for her views on Ricky as a friend, Maggie describes him as a 'close homely friend' so she feels that her 'new love' story is nothing more than a joke. Maggie also says that Ricky knew that they were being followed and was ready for the story to be revealed, so he had asked her if he needed to watch his actions. Maggie said openly: "I felt that there was no need, do you want me to lose all my friends and grow old lonely?" Maggie hopes that his problem can soon be overcome and her friends will stop becoming drawn into it.

Maggie Cheung was filming the last scene for TVB's "War and Beauty" yesterday and as she has also been filming "Proud Warriors of the Chu and Han", the two ancient series side by side and the very different characters have left her a little weary. She says: "It is not only tiring, I am almost a split personality." Luckily, work on "War" has finally finished and she can breathe sigh of relief and concentrate on "Proud". As for her co-star in "Proud Warriors" being Adam Cheng, Maggie is very happy about this because as well as learning a lot from him, she is also getting a lot of comic relief. She laughs: "Adam likes to tell dirty but funny jokes when he is working and the atmosphere of the team is very relaxed." As he is her senior and they did not know each other very well to begin with, Maggie says: "I daren't laugh at first and it was hard work keeping it in."

Also, as Maggie's character in "Proud Warriors" is a historical character, she notes: "As the audience will have an understanding of this character and the lines in this script are very classical, there is an element of difficulty in this role and I will have to add a little bit of emphasis to this performance. However I will work harder because it is the challenge that I get from each show that gives me the motivation despite the tiredness of filming so many series."

[Additional from Apple Daily]

Filming on adjacent sets for different shows, Michelle Ye laughed that as she refers to Adam Cheng as 'dad', then Adam suggested that she should call Maggie 'auntie' in line with the character relationships in his current show. When Maggie was asked how she felt about being called 'auntie', she seemed a little put out and said: "You can't do that! Don't call me 'Ah Sum' or if you have to then use 'Ah Yee' instead!"

[Oriental Daily & The Sun]

Ever since her split with Samm Chan, Maggie Cheung's love life has been in the spotlight and with reports that her split with Samm was fake and their secret affair and going out on a shopping date with stylist Ricky, Maggie has always strongly denied these stories, insisting she is not dating anyone at the moment. The most recent reports have suggested that Maggie was on a date with a bespectacled male in his thirties in Central and that she was hiding from the press by leaning on the table. In response to this, she says: "I am not sneaky, I just don't like being photographed by them."

Yesterday, Maggie appeared in a low cut dress at Wanchai's Exhibition and Convention centre for the annual ball for the parent company of her slimming sponsors. Maggie pointed out that the man in question is just a friend and not her boyfriend. Although she is often spotted out socialising, Maggie says she will not avoid the press and if she finds a boyfriend, she will not reveal this to the press until she is ready to get married. To date she is yet to find anyone, but Maggie says this is not because she has high standards, as long as he is right for her that is all that matters.

She also adds that her figure is getting better and better after becoming spokesperson for the slimming company and hopes that they will renew her contract when the year ends.

QUOTE
Maggie Cheung appeared at an event wearing an extremely sexy Gucci dress and revealed that there is nothing underneath so she has had to use a lot of tape to make sure she is protected. However she feels it is worth it as long as she looks beautiful. Wearing a pendant in the shape of the letter "A", Maggie was asked whether this was present from her boyfriend, she replied secretively saying: "I can't tell you, it is a secret."

When asked about her love life, Maggie responded: "Don't spoil it for me, I would like to ride in a Rolls and get married too. The people in the press photos are all just friends, but you don't take pictures of me out with female friends. Even my own mother thinks I have a lot of boyfriends and other people think I am playing the field. If I had a stable boyfriend, I would take him to see my mother, but I haven't had one for a while now."

QUOTE
Four of TVB's top leading females Maggie Cheung, Kenix Kwok, Charmaine Sheh and Sonija Kwok were seated together at the "Nextmedia Television Awards", but with Kenix, Charmaine and Sonija deep in conversation, Maggie who was voted top position of the "Top Ten Artistes" seemed rather left out and even lacking in eye contact. Only when the award winners were invited onto the stage for a photocall did Kenix step beside Maggie and placed her hand over her shoulder for a friendly pose. Later when Maggie noticed the press crowding around Kenix, she joined Kenix calling out: "I want to be in the picture too!"

When Maggie was asked what they were talking about on the stage, she says that she congratulated Kenix on her marriage and asked when she would be having babies. She also feels that the speech given by Frankie Lam on the stage was very meaningful in that he hopes that the press will report the truth and not use tactics to upset people because artistes in showbiz want to spread happiness and enjoyment and it is a shame for some incidents to spoil this.

Maggie's speech encouraged her colleagues to work hard saying that you only reap what you are prepared to give. She says that she has put a lot of time into her work last year to create three great show and it is not down to luck or opportunity. However, she must also thank her fans, the company and the press for their help and both positive and negative news has helped her to grow, taught her to be more open minded and realise that being happy is the most important thing. This award is her ideal birthday present and she is very satisfied. Is she not worried that her words will be misunderstood by those who have lost out to her? Maggie says: "This is the truth, there is no chance to it. You have to work hard, but not getting number 1 doesn't mean you are not good, getting into the top ten is no easy task. (But they weren't talking to you off stage?) When people are talking on the stage, you should pay attention and not chat among yourselves and affect other people in the audience."

TVB's "Better Halves" has been popular in the Mainland since it began airing and the stars of the show Steven Ma and Maggie Cheung are seen as perfect partners. On May 1st Labour Day, these 'better halves' joined up to make some money at the opening of a furniture business in Dongguan. In order to avoid the holiday traffic, they left at half past six from Hong Kong and even had time for tea when they arrived. When they arrived at the venue at around 11am, there were already several thousand people congregated and everywhere was packed full of people. During the opening ceremony, the crowds continuously called their names and despite dripping with sweat from the heat, they were still extremely happy at the welcome.

The most memorable thing for Steven and Maggie was being invited to the organiser's home to rest. This person owned a 10,000 foot mansion and as well as there being space to rest inside, there was also huge garden outside that held a chinese style shelter and two vegetable patches where the owner could enjoy tea or do some gardening. Maggie gasped: "I thought that Hong Kong people knew how to enjoy themselves, but the standard of living in China is equally high!"

For their work, Steven and Maggie often have to travel to the mainland so they fully understand the changes to life of the people in China. Seeing Steven again this time, Maggie thinks he looks healthier than before and will no longer joke about his chin being like 'Steven Pig'. Maggie also feels that Steven is more focused on his performance and cultural career and hopes that they will have more opportunities to work together in the future.

Maggie Cheung has always seemed to be a magnet for gossip since she started in showbiz and recently there have been reports of her former assistant Christine talking of what a terrible boss she was, leaving Maggie with more problems to face.

Maggie will be heading out to Wuxi next week to film for "Proud Heroes of Chu and Han" with the shoot lasting one and a half months. After returning to Hong Kong, she will be heading up to Shanghai for five months of filming, so she will be away from Hong Kong for the next half a year. Recently, her working relationship with her assistant Christine was terminated and as Christine looks for a new job, she has been talking to everyone about the hardships she has suffered.

Christine alleges that Maggie was miserly and did not require her assistance in Shanghai as she would rather employ a local assistant. She also says that Maggie indicated she would not be needed until she comes back. As an assistant in China will only cost a few thousand dollars, it is estimated that Maggie will make a saving of several tens of thousands of dollars.

When asked about Christine's allegations, Maggie pleads innocence, saying: "Christine and I have just stopped working together, but this was her decision and I did not say I didn't need her. She did not want to go to China for so long because there was no-one to look after her dog or her home and she couldn't help me." As for the suggestions of cost savings, Maggie cannot accept this at all: "Those who know me will know I am not like that. When I was filming for 'War and Beauty' in Beijing, then as well as Christine, I also hired another assistant. As long as they can help me, then I will not mind about these things because it is difficult to find a good assistant."

When Maggie goes to Wuxi and Shanghai to work, she admits that she will be hiring a local assistant as she explains: "This is not to save money, it is just because I need a local person to look after me. I had discussed this with Christine and originally I had asked her to go with me, but she couldn't let go of what she has in Hong Kong, so she didn't want to come with me. Now she is saying these things about me, maybe it is because she is looking for work."

Maggie reveals that her arrangements with assistants is for the timespan of a series and if she takes on another series, then they will discuss another agreement. It is not a permanent contract and it is all down to trust. However, she feels that this incident will affect her reputation, so she will be calling Christine to ask about it. Up to time of print, Christine herself was unavailable for comment.

i agree with you, anneheung11, Better Halves was grreat =]

Maggie Cheung will be heading into China today to film for "Proud Heroes of Chu and Han" and then will be heading to Shanghai to film for "Song of Prolonged Hatred" (Chang Hen Ge). As she will be away from Hong Kong for six months, she has ended her contract with her assistant, but this has caused trouble with reports of complaints against her.

When she was asked about this yesterday, Maggie says that it was a small misunderstanding and this happened possibly as a result of some manipulation. She says that her assistant was purely helping her as a friend beforehand and there was no contract as everything was done on trust. She left because she did not want to leave her dog at home for six months.

Also, Maggie's spokesperson contract with Mariane Chan's slimming company will be up for renewal in June and with reports that the other spokesperson Sandra Ng not renewing the contract due to heavy pressure, Maggie says: "I would like to renew, but as I will be in China for the next six months, then I will not be able to attend the promotional events and I don't know if the boss will mind about this. Being a spokesperson puts great pressure on yourself because every time you appear, you have to be on top form , but are afraid of revealing yourself, so I get very nervous. I have overcome this now though and you can tell by my high spirits today at this event, I would suggest they sign a male spokesperson, that would make it a bit different."

Steven held a launch party for his book yesterday that was attended by guests such as good friends Maggie Cheung, Cheng Dan Shui and Nancy Sit. When he heard that Maggie was also planning to write a book, Steven was very supportive and then said sheepishly: "Maggie was very punctual for today's event, but I was ten minutes late."

TVB's grand production "Proud Heroes of Chu and Han" are currently filming on location in Hengdian and among the cast members are some famous faces. With the expectations of some great technical effects and a rescue to TVB's falling ratings, it appears that a lack of resources are causing many problems as cast members are being injured as a result of the usual missing element of money.

TVB have ploughed much of their top artistes into this show, including Adam Cheng, Maggie Cheung and Kwong Wa and have planned for many scenes involving thousands of soldiers and horses to make every factor attractive. In order to make the first stand, the crew all stormed up to Hengdian in Hangzhou for the location shoot, creating quite a commotion.

However, the actual situation seems that all the grandeur is only on the surface and in less than a month since they have been there, several problems have already emerged. Reports suggest that as TVB put a lot of its budget into filming previous grand production ancient dramas such as "Blade Heart" and "War and Beauty", the money left for this show is limited and in order to tie in with the company-wide cutbacks, savings are being made wherever they can. With the lack of the more expensive experienced martial arts choreographers, having chosen to use the cheaper local option who have little knowledge of acting, the results are less than satisfactory and do not seem right when the playbacks are seen.

The cast do not want there to be imperfections in their performances, especially with the excellent scripting and the personal approach from producer Lee Tim Sing has touched many of the cast and crew. As a result they are pushing themselves in riskier situations by doing stunts themselves. From action scenes to riding horses, they want to do it themselves as Adam and Maggie mount up and injure themselves time and time again. Also Melissa Ng has fallen and injured herself, Kwong Wa was working despite illness and some cast members have even broken bones and torn ligaments. However, under these harsh conditions, the cast and crew are very united because they hope that if they can do a good job, the month will soon pass and they can all head back to Hong Kong again!

I can't imagine why they would dislike her! She's one of the better actresses around! Plus she's really pretty. Though I think she might be getting a bit too skinny...! I prefer her in costume series rather than modern series. Somehow she looks better in costumes. Better Halves and different from the usual TVB series. It's lighthearted and funny. Hope she comes up with more series soon!

I remember seeing her for the very first time in "The Condor Heroes 1995". At the time, I felt there was somthing special about the girl. I thought she could make it big, and indeed she has. She's just a great actress and always portraying her roles fittingly, especially in Better Halves.

Mggie Cheung was a guest model for a designer watch label yesterday and as well as her fee, she was also given a watch worth $32,000. However, the watch that she was modelling was worth a staggering $290,000 and she says that she was overwhelmed as soon as she put it on and she hopes that she can convince the PR to give her the watch as a gift!

The watch that Maggie was given was flown in especially from Switzerland and has her name engraved on the back. She says that this style of watch suits her age and she is very fond of very unisex watch designs. She has over ten at home and when she has money, she will buy watches to collect. However, as her wrist is quite small, she will never share watches with her boyfriend.

Maggie has just returned from Wuxi, where she has been filming and she will shortly be heading out to Shanghai to film for mainland production "Chang Hen Ge" (Song of Everlasting Hatred). As this is a modern series, it will not be as hard work as an ancient costume drama, even in the hot weather. She says that she will be away for six months on this trip and she has been looking for a place in the Shanghai area where she can stay in comfort. As her good friend Elaine Ng lives in the suburbs, she will not be staying with her as most of Maggie's filming will be in the centre of the city.

The series will begin filming in August, but she will be setting out soon to prepare for filming. She will be learning to speak Mandarin with a Shanghainese accent and also some gestures of a 1930's lady. She has sixteen episodes worth of scenes that will take six months to film. When asked if she is giving up a lot for this show, she says that there are many offers of work in the Mainland for her, but she is very choosy about what she accepts and so this is the first Mainland series for her. This series will also be entered for a film festival so she feels it will be worth it. Asked if she thinks she will win at the Golden Rooster awards with this show, she says she has not thought about it as she just hopes for a good start and entry into the mainland market.

The thing that Maggie will miss the most with her departure from Hong Kong will be her dog. She says: "This dog has been with me since it was born and it has been fifteen years, I am most afraid that it will suddenly die. He is like my son because I don't have a boyfriend or a friend that I have shared fifteen years with. For him to live so long is down to the care I usually give him, feeding him chicken and lingzhi."

Also, Maggie was not named by the HK International Filmart as one of the top ten overseas export television artistes despite coming top of the most popular artistes polls earlier. She is not disappointed about this because the different organisations have different criteria for their polls.

News:

Future Cannes juries might think twice about giving Maggie Cheung another award.

Cheung, 39, who was named Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival three months ago, has confessed to keeping her prize medal in her toilet, says Oriental Daily News.

She was in Taipei on Wednesday for the opening of a store by the Hong Kong clothing company, izzue, when a reporter asked about her award.

Looking slightly sheepish, she said: 'I'm not being disrespectful. It's just that it's small and the toilet is empty. It looked right when I put it there. I feel it looks good.'

She has served as izzue's unpaid image consultant for four years, says the paper.

Oriental adds that her role in the Steven Spielberg produced Memoirs Of A Geisha went to Michelle Yeoh after she quit the project, and that Madonna may now have a cameo in the movie.

***WARNING: SOME SPOILERS FOR WAR & BEAUTY***

Gigi Lai, Maggie Cheung, Charmaine Sheh and Moses Chan's ancient drama for TVB "War and Beauty" will be airing on the 23rd of this month. The story tells of the conflicts from within the Imperial Palace as the concunbines fight for power and the love of the emperor. Maggie, Charmaine and Gigi all play concubines respectively in a display of acting talent and seduction.

"War" was filmed earlier in Beijing and it was very cold there at the time, so all the crew had to bear the harsh weather, especially the ladies who had to wear their thin sexy costumes. Among them, Gigi's was the most seductive as her costumes were either shoulderless or camisoles and in one scene, she appears lain on a bed in a very sexy pose, as she waited for the emperor's return. However, after a sly trick from Charmaine, she can only wait.

Gigi said in a telephone interview yesterday: "I was really very cold when I was in Beijing filming because all the costumes were summer clothes, so I had to use over ten warm packs a day to keep warm and even had them on the soles of my feet. In contrast, when we were filming in Hong Kong, we were shooting winter scenes in summer, but it is all worth it because this show was really about acting abilities and all three of us really challenged each other." Talking of her sexy scenes, Gigi said: "The costumes this time are the most beautiful ancient costumes ever, too bad that my character doesn't get a good ending because the emperor finds out about my other lover."

After "To Catch the Uncatchable", TVB will be airing "War and Beauty" as of next week and a group of cast members including Charmaine Sheh, Maggie Cheung, Gigi Lai and Moses Chan took part in a costume parade in a Shatin Shopping Mall yesterday, showing off their Qing costumes on the catwalk. As some of the winter costumes had fur trimmings and the weather was very hot, they all found it quite hard work. With rumours of conflict between Charmaine and Maggie, the couple exchanged no words throughout the event and during the group photo, Charmaine stood with Gigi in the middle, chatting and laughing, whilst Maggie stood to one side, before being pulled back to the middle by the producer.
Maggie is currently working in Shanghai, filming for mainland production "SOng of Everlasting Sorrow (Chang Hen Ge)" and she returned to Hong Kong especially for the "War and Beauty" promotion before rushing back to Shanghai today. She smiles: "I only have this series airing this year, so I am depending greatly on this. If I can get an award at the anniversary, then I will definitely fly back for it especially." Talking of the incident of why she stood to one side during the group photo, seemingly avoiding Charmaine, she says: "Actually we had all been on the catwalk earlier, so I hoped to give the other cast members a chance because the success of a show does not depend on just a few people."
As for Maggie and Charmaine's animoscity, Gigi has heard of the rumours and says: "It is usually quite easy for female stars to cause gossip, maybe because they think that women get jealous more easily. Take this show for example, in the story, the women are all fighting furiously against each other, but I hope it is not like that in real life." Gigi admits that she gets on better with Maggie and they will join together to go shopping sometimes, but she has never been out privately with Charmaine. Talking of who she would side with if they really were fighting, Gigi says with some frustration: "I don't know, it is very awkward. We are all independent parties and we are all bad (in the show)."

Rumour-ridden couple Moses Chan and Maggie Cheung have a rather fruitless relationship in the series and it was joked that Moses is having the same experience in real life with Bernice Liu. When he heard this, Moses laughed dryly twice before saying that he did not want to discuss this any more. After this, whenever Bernice's name was mentioned, he seemed rather embarrassed.

That song is Que Sera Sera, by Doris Day, very old song. It wasn't the theme song though, but a sub theme song, sort of, it was played at the end of the series, symbolic to her childhood.

Maggie Cheung has had her fair share of rumours lately, after being linked with Joe Ma and stylist Ricky, the latest reports suggest that she is being stalked by a tomboy female friend, who is sending Maggie an array of flowers to win her affections. To this, Maggie responds that her friends will either be male or female and going for meals or shopping with friends is a very normal thing. She feels that the reports are blown too far out of proportion, so she has no intentions of making any comment.

Maggie Cheung has been filming in Shanghai recently for mainland production "Song of Everlasting Sorrow" and with a few days off from filming, she has returned to Hong Kong. She plans to return to Shanghai at the end of September. She forces a smile and says: "It has taken six months to film 16 episodes, if it was in Hong Kong, then we could have made two and a half 20 episode series in six months."

Talking of the good response to her new series "War and Beauty", Maggie is very pleased about this and says: "I daren't say which series made me happier to film, but the most enjoyable thing is the good co-operation between cast and crew, because the script and the artistes were all very serious and it has been ten years since TVB filmed such a female orientated series, so all the artistes taking part were very happy about it." As for some parents complaining that "War" has scenes that are unsuitable for children, Maggie says that the show is being aired after family viewing time, so young children should be asleep and the show is for a more adult audience.

Despite the constant rumours about her animoscity with Charmaine Sheh, Maggie was full of praises for all the female stars of the show, including Charmaine. She says: "My character is rather cool, Gigi's is more conceited but with an evil heart and Charmaine is very calm and collected." In the show, she has some romantic ties with Moses and Maggie laughs: "There are plenty of people who envy me!"

With "War and Beauty" currently airing, the female characters are busy scheming away against each other in the show and the off screen hostility between Charmaine Sheh and Maggie Cheung is also rife. The two themselves have not responded to the matter, but earlier Lawrence Ng commented in passing whilst filming for "Healing Hands III" and changed his usual tune by criticising Maggie, bringing up her lateness record that was giving a bad impression and believing that the two were at odds.

After the report was printed, many readers have responded to Lawrence's comments, saying that he commented without thinking of the consequences of his words and his comment about women being petty shows what a little man he really is. However, Lawrence feels no regret towards his actions, but indicated on a telephone interview that he should not really comment on this and as an artiste himself, he was wrong to discuss other artiste's business with the press.

Currently filming in Shanghai for "Song of Everlasting Sorrow", Maggie Cheung was not angry about what Lawrence had said and although he accused her of always being late whilst filming on "Police Station No 7", Maggie felt comforted by the encouragement from the fan letter and seemed at ease as she smiled: "Thanks for all the promotion that Lawrence has done for my show! I will not talk about the rumours about conflict, we are all getting along and I am happy that the hostility from the show can be brought outside of the screen because it just makes it more convincing."

Elton John held a concert at Hong Kong's Wanchai Convention and Exhibition Centre and attracted a crowd of celebrities to see the show. Among them was Maggie Cheung and when she arrived, she was immediately hounded by press for her comments regarding the reported falling out between her and renowned costume designer Cheung Shuk Ping. However, Maggie says that she has not read the papers and had to read them before she would comment.

Maggie Cheung and Christine Ng took part in a promotional event for a French cosmetics brand yesterday. Maggie also received sponsorship of cosmetics from the company. She admits that women are vain and she does love jewellery, but she has not thought about doing a course on jewellery evaluation because she has two good teachers already who are her mother and aunt.

Maggie is currently filming in the mainland for "Song of Everlasting Sorrow", and despite the show has not having officially started shooting yet, it is already riddled with rumours and gossip. When she heard the word 'gossip' in the question from the press, Maggie immediately responded: "I will not reply to these pointless questions." As for the rumours that she has fallen out with designer Cheung Shuk Ping, Maggie pointed out that this was a cosmetics event and she would not be discussing anything other than this product.

With suggestions that "Song" was originally offered to Michelle Ye, but she turned it down to host the Olympics and because she felt that Maggie suited the role more, Maggie admits this and describes Michelle as her 'grace'. When asked about all the rumours for the series already and whether she needs to go and do some prayers, she says: "Come on, these small incidents are not worth me getting annoyed. As an artiste, you will never have no gossip, but you find your strength through these rumours and just laugh them off as a joke. (Do you feel that you get more gossip as you become more famous?) Jackie Chan has plenty of gossip and I am just a small potato."

When Christine heard about Simon Yam's wife Qi Qi being seven months pregnant, she was very happy and when asked when it would be her turn, she says that they do have a plan, but some things cannot be rushed. Originally planning to move to Paris for a while, Christine's plans have had to be postponed because she has taken on more work. She emphasises that she is working hard on 'making babies', but everything is down to fate.

[Ta Kung Pao & The Sun 22/09/04]

The DKNY 2004 Autumn/Winter collection show was held two nights ago and Maggie Cheung arrived after the show had started and was immediately the focus of interviews from the press. Maggie's 'rumoured girlfriend' Alice Tang was also present and it turned out that the two friends had arranged to watch the show together. As they sat together without any hint of awkwardness, they chatted and laughed through the show and Maggie seemed very flirtatious throughout the evening as she leaned against the sofa for the press to take photos.

When the reporters commented that Maggie was dressed very sexily, she laughed that for her, watching a fashion show is still work. Did she arrange to meet Alice for the show? She syas that they both came after work. As for their relationship, Maggie says that she has always seen Alice as a big sister and a very close friend, because in this industry it is very difficult to find someone that you can share all your secrets with.

Earlier, there were reports that she shared seven rather ominous hours together at home with Alice and Maggie says: "Do you think it looks like that? We are around the same age, so we are good friends." She believes that this news is too pointless and points out that it is difficult for artistes to make friends, like when she went for dinner with Joe Ma earlier, it was twisted into another story and this left her feeling very frustrated. When asked if she knows Alice's background, Maggie laughs: "Is she a triad? Haha.. I don't care about backgrounds." Does she feel that there is a romantic intention? Maggie said to the reporters: "You really need to tweak your mind a little." The reporters then suggested that she should find her Prince Charming soon to avoid any more rumours, but she laughs she will not because any princes will be frightened off by the press.

Alice happily answered questions from the press, saying that she and Maggie have been good friends all along and maybe because they are so close, that they have been misunderstood. She feels hard done by because the rumours started just a few months into their friendship. As for romance, Alice says there is no chance of this because although she is yet to find her other half, she will introduce men to Maggie. Alice then went on to praise her good friend's performance in "War and Beauty", saying she is the best out of the cast.

With rumours brewing about the relationship between Maggie Cheung and Alice Tang, a magazine has recently revealed that when they went shopping, Alice bought Maggie an expensive watch. Maggie responded to this earlier when she took part in a movie premiere. She says that she will not take any notice in the reports from this magazine: "Sorry, the report was totally untrue and you can ignore it." When asked if this will affect their normal friendship, she says that of course it will not and she will not be unhappy about it. She laughs that she only found out about it after her friends told her and she just laughed it off.

When it was suggested by reporters that she may have less and less friends, Maggie smiles that maybe she has lost her husband as well. She insists that on that day, she did meet Alice to look at watches, because she has some expertise in them and this is a normal pastime. When asked if she is afraid these reports will stop men from courting her, Maggie says: "Why would you think that?" Maybe the reports of their closeness will give the message that she is homosexual? Maggie says that this is a magazine report and it is not the indication of what the public thinks.

Alice Tang is Maggie Cheung's good friend. She's not an actress, as so I've never heard before but she's just one of Maggie's personal good friends.

Yes it is true that she is rumoured to be in conflict with so & so, having a relationship with Ricky something from some clothing company (is it?), & so on.

Please, doesn't mean that the PRESS says that she doesn't get along with Charmaine means it's true. It's quite obvious that they are exagerating it. So they're not good friends. Does it mean that they are enemies??? I don't think so.

& being a lesbian is wrong??? Means that her real-life personality is bad??? What's the problem??? So everyone who is gay & lesbian are bad people??? Maggie is so not a les btw, she has had boyfriends. I guess that doesn't prove anything about her being straight but it sure proves that the press is SO DARN interested in Maggie's private life & business, they probably put cameras all over her house or something & follow her everywhere she goes. & I won't be surprised if they done that. Is it wrong to go out with a go0d friend??? Is it wrong to be appearing at almost every function she goes to lately with Alice & does it even prove that they are "girlfriends"? Like as if it doesn't happen to any other star, geez it's SO obvious that Maggie is like the media magnet.

After reading all these ridiculous rumours, I just realise that I love Maggie even more for not taking it personally. She probably does, but she doesn't show it. She doesn't scream at the press or looses her temper in public. She didn't even get mad at what Lawrence Ng said about her & her animosity with Charmaine (which so proves what a "man" he actually is). In fact, she actually sort of thanked him. She knows that these are all just rumours & she who knows herself the clearest & best knows that there is no point to take it seriously. She can keep her cool & calm at the same time. How could there any better actress???

Not to forget, she's still a great actress with great talents. It doesn't mean that she's enemies with people she's not familiar with. She agreed that it is hard to make friends when she came into the "star" world, but it doesn't mean that she's not friendly with everyone. If people read more about her & her biography, they would probably be agreeing with me. Enough said here. Maggie's still the best & always will be.

Another news. Geez. They sure follow her around a lot.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although Maggie Cheung and Alice Tang are rumored to be a couple, they both ignore the reports and continue to show up in public events together. When Maggie was being interviewed last night, Alice waited patiently by her side. Asked whether she was affected by the rumors, Alice said no, and added Maggie was just a friend. Alice also stressed she never gave Maggie "an expensive watch", and she would like to confront the person who wrote that in the paper.

As for Maggie, she seemed tired of the rumors. She said they were completely untrue, but fortunately, they did not affect the friendship between her and Alice. Asked if being pursued by men, Maggie said she would let nature take its own course. Right now, she just wants to enjoy her days off and have a good rest.

Earlier, Charmaine Sheh said in an interview that her character was the most evil lady in "War And Beauty". Maggie laughingly agreed, and said her evilness would hit a peak next week. Asked to comment on the rumored animosity between herself and Charmaine, Maggie said it was far from the truth, and added they were actually very courteous to each other after work.

Wow... ya i agree that certain things on e press cannot be trusted. but then sometimes it seems like she's not in good terms with alot of actresses from wat i observed in photos, but again, photographers can just take the moment to show maggie's uninterested look...

a personal opinion: i think in showbiz, even though how much u wanna be true to the audience and yourself, there is a limit u can do. if not it will not be called showbiz... u still gotta act somehow to get thru stuff and say politically right things. maggie always claim that she wanna be in her true self, but how much of the true self is she showing?

Ermmm . . . excuse me but is that even a question??? I think Maggie is showing wayyy more of her true self than any other actress or actor in showbiz is probably doing! So she doesn't get along with everybody, so she's not close some people, she may find it hard to make friends in showbiz as she had said before, but what does that even prove??? That she is bad? Everybody has their own attitude, it just depends on how you take it. I noticed people take it more from the press' point of view. Or probably from other actresses perception, like for example they say Maggie & Charmaine is having this animoscty thing going on, so fans of Charmaine will only think from Charmaine's perception & bring up all the "so-called past" of bad news that has been written about Maggie. But have you ever thought, how hard is it to become a star??? Everywhere with news & press talking about you, especially Maggie because she's so obviously one of the main attractions from the media & a top spotlight lik Cecilia Cheung but from TVB. The media practically follows her everywhere she goes. What time she comes home. Where she went with & who did she go with that night (example, the Joe Ma incident). Like I said before, the press is so obviously in love with her & her public relations that I wouldn't be surprised if they have cameras & spotlight everywhere she goes. Who would be reading the papers & gossips about stars if there is nothing "interesting" going on??? They have to add a little news here & there, exagerate a little bit, maybe even make up some nonsense they thought of themselves, etc.

Definitely there is a limit & extend to how you present yourself in public especially for all stars. But why play fake when you can be real??? I've read Maggie's biography, I've read what her real fans who met her say about her, I've read what her personal friends say about her, etc. It might not be true but why believe the bad news when we can think positively of everyone??? & mind you, but I think what her true friends & what other people who know her personally say about her is much more believable compared to what the press knows.

All in all, I think Maggie knows how to act in public as well as in her series. To me & her fans, she's still an unbelievably good & talented actress who may not be perfect or liked & may even be hated by certain people, but it is understandable that people like us who read about her news & well-beings & psychologically, will also in time believe that she is an arrogant & rude person or whatever. She is for sure someone who doesn't "act" around trying to be all goody-goody with everyone when she is not on camera, she is very much true to herself.

As a Maggie fan, I truly think that she has her pros & cons & I would just accept it. I don't like a few actresses too in terms of acting but I don't believe that in person they would be the same as how I feel about their acting. It depends on all individuals. All in all, I'm just saying that the media's words can not be fully trusted. If you want to read them, just read it for the fun of it like I do. Even Maggie herself doesn't get all hooked up by it, why should we be??? We're not her! She may not be perfect, but who is??? & I don't think any of us here has met her persoanlly anyways so there is no right to comment on her saying that "I think she is rather arrogant, or cocky or whatsoever." wink.gif

As a result, just an advice that we shouldn't believe what everything the press says or write. Like me, I just read it for fun & entertaintment without taking it personally. This is considered one of the measures & hardships in life stars have to face almost everyday. I mean, people like Maggie herself doesn't even get all hooked up & frustrated with them, why should we??? At least she knows not to take them persoanlly & act all mad & being hot-tempered to the press & even still bother to entertain them. So why should we believe that she is such a "bad" person??? If she looses her cool, I would probably not have respected her so much but 'til this extend, I still think that she is somewhat rather proffesional to not get even a little hot-headed about it. In fact, she actually entertains the press' questions about her. How much cooler can anyone be??? I've read about some stars who behave very hot-headedly towards the media & totally disses them off. Do you think that they are arrogant & rude??? The media is just doing their job aren't they??? See like I said, everyone has their own character & attitude towards different situations.

Some of you may still be thinking that why this doesn't happen to other actresses & I actually have a few other points, but it is pointless to repeat it over again if people who are reading this still think negatively about Maggie. Just take it this way; not all good things happen to everyone at everytime & bad things can happen to anyone at anytime. Consider others lucky (for now). If you are a Maggie Cheung Ho Yee fan, please do not spam here saying that she is rude, arogant, unfriendly, cocky, etc but accept & be ready that when you come to this thread, we are not here to insult our idol, but to accept & discuss good & bad about her whether they are true or not.

TVB's "War and Beauty" will be airing its grand finale on Saturday and in an unprecedented move, TVB will be holding a special charity dinner, serving village 'bowl banquet' specialities. As well as airing the final episode at the event, there will also be 38 tables serving food to the paying guests. In exchange for an entrance fee of $100, viewers can join the cast members for dinner and to watch the show. The funds raised on the evening will be donated to the Community Chest.

As for why there will only be 38 tables, this is because TVB is 'heading towards 38 years' after this year's anniversary celebration. There will also be a charity auction on that evening where some of the props from the show such as handkerchiefs and fans will be sold off to raise more funds for the charity, with a figure of several tens of thousands of dollars expected to be raised.

Maggie Cheung and Alice Tang have recently been the target of the press, but they continue to stick together and often join up to attend various public events without fear of rumours. The pair took part in a diamond event earlier and Maggie indicated that she was attending to support her friend as she is also a fan of diamond jewellery as she finds a clear and sparkling diamond extremely attractive. When asked if she collects jewellery, she says: "I do like to collect jewellery and watches, the most valuable watch I own is worth over $100,000." As for the first diamond that Maggie owned, it was one she bought herself with money she made from her salary and she has kept this as a souvenir.

As for the constant reports that suggest a romantic affair between her and Alice and also indicating their close relationship, Maggie does not mind about these reports, neither confirming nor denying them, just laughing that these puzzling issues are best left to the press to second guess. As for whether she has anyone courting her, she says that she is concentrating on work as she has to return to Shanghai tomorrow to continue filming for "Song of Everlasting Sorrow".

The rumors of Maggie Cheung and Charmaine Sheh not getting along continue to be a hot topic as "War and Beauty" comes close to its grand finale. As the latest report reveals, Charmaine was mad at Maggie because she went overboard and tried to direct some of Charmaine's scenes while shooting.

Maggie finally responds, as she feels she's been exploited time and time again. "I find that the harder you work and the better results you get, the more rumors you have. It won't affect me, though. I'll continue to work hard, and I'm ready for more rumors. But I have to say that people better stop using me to promote themselves!"

Model Samantha Chow also supports her friend Maggie. She hints that somebody is trying to stir things up. "I've been following entertainment news. I remember Charmaine Sheh and Shirley Yeung were said to have friction. And now, Charmaine and Maggie. Is it a coincidence (that somebody is always said to have problems with others)?" Samantha explains that even if Maggie did try to direct some of the scenes, she was qualified to do so, because she's a veteran and has had much experience. "Sheren Tang, Gigi Lai and Maggie all did very well. Charmaine was okay." Samantha adds.

As for the other "headline piece", Samantha confirms Maggie and Alice (Tang) are just friends.

Having been away filming in Beijing for a few months, Charmaine Sheh was back in Hong Kong yesterday as a judge for a model competition. As for the gossip that has surrounded the lead stars of "War and Beauty" since the show began airing, Charmaine, who has been embroiled in rumours of conflicts with Maggie Cheung and even slanging matches during magazine interviews, responded to the press saying: "I feel we really need to take a break. I am happy that everyone is supporting the show, but if we continue to be entangled in all these rumours then it is not a good thing. In reality, all the cast members got on peacefully."

Talking of the award for the female lead at the TVB anniversary becoming the target for all the female cast members, Charmaine says that until the company reveals that nominations then she does not know whether she will be up for the award and so it is too early to discuss this just now and each of the female cast members do stand an equal chance. As for the suggestion that Maggie has offered to 'let her have the award', Charmaine says: "I have already responded, I think it is a misunderstanding. (Do you not think that she is undermining you?) I have already responded to this in the magazine interview."

Maggie has also expressed that she does not wish to comment on these rumours to avoid it being used as promotion. When Charmaine heard this, she laughed coldly and said: "Why do I have to respond to what she says? I will just say the same thing and I hope that the rumours will stop for a while. (She says she does not want to be used for promotion.) Who is she referring to? (Are you not worried that someone is profiting from this?) I don't think so!" As for the arguments between her and Maggie's fans on the internet, Charmaine says she thanks her fans for their support, but arguing is an unhealthy way of expressing oneself. On top of this, the news linking Maggie and Alice Tang, hinting a possible lesbian relationship, Charmaine says: "I think this is just an untrue rumour." When asked if she felt that Maggie was 'touching up' other female cast members whilst filming, Charmaine laughs: "There was no such thing!"

Charmaine will be taking part in Saturday's special screening of the grand finale of "War" and when it was mentioned that Gigi Lai had offered to donate a camisole for the auction, Charmaine laughed: "If the public request it, then I don't mind donating a camisole after wearing it, maybe the fragrance will demand a higher price!"

She's a good actress that exudes confidence and elegance but she seems to have problems interacting with people.

As for the rumours of conflict with Charmaine i guess there must be some truth to it but how bad the situation is anybody's guess.

[Ta Kung Pao, Oriental Daily & The Sun 01/10/04]

"War and Beauty" reaches a climax this week and the finale will be aired on Saturday. As the show has stirred up quite a frenzy, TVB has arranged a special charity presentation that will be attended by the cast members. After the news of their arguments have broken, Charmaine Sheh and Maggie Cheung will met again for the first time at this event and this will surely become the focus for the evening.

Charmaine appeared at a cosmetics promotional event yesterday and she says that she will be supporting her own show and has bought tickets for a table to hand out to her own friends. She says that she can also do something for charity at the same time. Charmaine indicates that she wanted to buy a few tables worth, but the ticket sales were so strong that they had all been sold beforehand and she was not even able to reserve another table. She laughs that those she has invited are female friends because women are more assertive and they are all leaving their men at home.

When asked about her meeting with Maggie, Charmaine says that she will not feel awkward: "We were only written about in this way, but it is not as exaggerated as that. (Will you not be speaking to each other?) Ai! If we don't speak then you say there is something going on, if we do speak then you say we are pretending to be friendly, so whatever we do, someone will write about it, so we'll just go with the flow."

Charmaine has had two series aired this year, but with the rave reviews of "War" and the great audience reactions, there is more concern about whether the four female leads will become the favourite female lead this year. However, no-one knows the nominations as yet, so speculation is still a little early.

Charmaine returned from Beijing on mid-autumn festival and when asked why she did not stay that day and spend it with 'good friend' Benny Chan, she says rather coldly: "What does it have to do with him? Spending the festival on th plane was quite unusual, because they handed out mooncakes on the plane and when I left Beijing, some local fans gave me a lantern."

***WARNING: SPOILERS FOR "WAR AND BEAUTY"***

"War" will be airing episode 29 tonight and the story tells of Hung Mo urging On Sin not to be used by Yu Yuet, Suen Ching Wah taking his son to bid leave from the Empress and Fuk Nga finding out that Lau Sik Chun has committed suicide after the torture received during the investigation into Tsiu Man Tin. For Yee Shun's safety, Fuk Nga pleads with Pak Yeung to take Yee Shun away from the palace, while she commits suicide. On the other hand, Yuk Ying's maid tells the Empress of Yuk Ying's secret and the Empress tells the Emperor about all the evildoings of the women, but the Emperor is more troubled by the rebels in his land and reprimands the Empress, whilst Yu Yuet and On Sin adopt each other as sisters.

If you have to say whether the you win the kingdom or not is down to being in the right place and time or down to fate, then why don't you say that it is personality that determines one's destiny. Xiang has a group of loyal followers, including Fan Zheng (Law Lok Lam), Ying Bu (Wang Chun Tong), his uncle Xiang Liang and his cousin Xiang Zhuang (Wong Chak Fung), but he uses them for his own gain and the good men leave him one by one. Liu on the other hand uses his men's talents well and Han Xin (Wayne Lai), Zhang Liang (Tseung Chi Kwong), Chen Ping (Gilbert Lam), Xiao He (Lo Chun Shun) and Fan Kuai (Al Wei) all bow down before him.

A hero always has a lady beside him and Liu's wife Lu Zhi (Maggie Cheung) is another strength that helps him gain his power. Lu is full of dreams, but has little hope of fulfilling them, so she spots the potential in Liu and puts all her hopes onto him. Xiang is the same as he has a beauty Yu Ji (Melissa Ng) at his side. Fan warns Xiang that Yu is an unlucky omen and urges him to murder her to remove a future threat, but Xiang refuses...

Please . . . you couldn't posibly believe in those rumours more.

As whether Maggie is tpgether "with" Alice Tang on romantic terms or not, no one can confirm but she herself has confirmed that it is just a rumour & that they are only good & close friends.

In other terms, they are NOT "together". There are plenty of this ridiculous rumours going around especially about Maggie. Don't be gullible enough to believe all of them. Just read them as entertainment news.
