Last year's winner Mandy Cho will soon be meeting with the contestants and sharing with them her own experiences and advice. When asked what advice she has to give, she laughs that she only has one piece and that is to relax about everything and not be too nervous. She smiles: "The scariest thing for me last year was interacting with the media because I didn't have much to say to strangers, but afterwards, I found that the media are actually very nice, so I tell myself not to be nervous and just face everything in a relaxed manner." As for the contestant who fell over at the last meeting, Mandy says: "She must have been too nervous!"
Mandy also adds that she has seen the quality of this year's contestants and feels that they are very even and not bad at all. She believes that after they have been repackaged, then they will totally change their image. When asked whether she thought that having a movie star mother would be an advantage, Mandy feels that Lee Ying's daughter is very pretty anyway and that the judges will be very fair and not give her extra points just because of her background. She feels that the most important thing for the contestants is to do their best in their performance.

In order to welcome the Olympic Games, TVB is currently holding a series of events across Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories where they will be passing an Olympic torch, with the coverage being shown on Jade Starbiz. Yesterday, Mandy Cho and Raymond Lam started their leg from Wanchai's Golden Bauhinia Plaza, and as that is a tourist hotspot, many tourists from the mainland asked Mandy for a photograph. As she is Miss Hong Kong, then of course she has to comply but her smile slowly went rather numb and she called out that she would have to start charging if she were to carry on!
Mandy started work at 9 am, being filmed with a group of over fifty students and she was in high spirits to start with, but after facing all the tourists, she was soon rather tired out and had to be helped away by the crew.
As for Raymond Lam, after meeting with blistering remarks from Rain Li at the earlier charity event, she made another jibe at him at the filming of "Jade Solid Gold", where she mentioned that she would like to have a higher nose and a smaller mouth and then saying that Raymond is like 'bread of life' changing with the days.Reports suggest that she is referring to Raymond's earlier rumours of plastic surgery. To this, Raymond responded: "I have nothing to say. (Have you fallen out?) Don't talk about it, I don't want this to become tit for tat, there is no meaning to this." He also says that he does not want to dwell on the subject as they are both friends, but they don't keep in touch very much. Later he will be heading into Beijing to film for "Tossing Rain Turning Cloud", working with Sharon Chan. He says that as Sharon has low blood sugar, he will be looking after her carefully."

The Wai Yin Women's Association will be holding a charity ball at the Hyatt hotel on 3rd July to raise money for elderly services. At the press conference, there were appearances from Wai Yin's members and this year's Miss Hong Kong winners. Mandy Cho is not yet a member because she can only join after she completes her role in August this year, however she is taking the opportunity to understand the operations of the society.
Mandy will be taking part in TVB's Olympic show this weekend and she will be playing African drums. She says that she does not know how to beat a rhythm, but she has been practising hard in the hope that she can give a good performance. When asked whether she will be wearing African dress, she says she does not know yet and will wait for arrangements from the company. Later, Mandy will be shooting some wedding photos with Kevin Cheng becuase they are currently working together on new series "Fight for Every Moment" and they have been offered a handsome fee for the job. This is the third time that Mandy will have worn wedding gowns, but she is not worried that she will be too accustomed when it comes to her real wedding in the future as she will be choosing her own dress and the feeling will definitely be different. Despite her Westernised appearance, Mandy would still very much like to wear the Chinese wedding dress and when asked when she would get married, she says that 30 is a suitable age and doesn't feel this is late. She says: "Not late at all. I don't have a boyfriend yet, but when I meet one, I will have to get to know him first, so it is about right." As for her earlier joke about meeting some eligible bachelors at balls, she says: "I haven't met any yet and no-one seems to be chasing me, so just have to go with fate, I was just joking anyway."

The 18 Miss Hong Kong contestants were arranged to meet with the judges yesterday for the "Slimmed Beauty Award" who were Shirley Cheung, Joe Ngai Jan and Mandy Cho. The judges will have another inspection at the end of July to see their progress and choose a winner.
When Joe was asked why he was being a judge, he says that maybe his choice of girl is not bad. After meeting the contestants yesterday, he praises them for their high standard of education, their grace and elegance and their willingness to express themselves with a few who are very talkative and fresh. When asked how he would be choosing the winner, he says that he will see how their slimming programme comes along and take notes.
From Joe's observations, are there any who need special improvement? He says: "Most of them are okay and although some are being mocked for their big bums, I think that their figures are okay. However, the way men see women and the way women see women is different as women have higher expectations. (Maybe the contestants are full of confidence.) They are all very even and I have not seen one who is totally confident like Michelle Reis, but there are a few who are quite comfortable, so I hope they can build on their confidence. (Will you use your girlfriend [Vivian Chow] as a standard?) Why are you suddenly mentioning my girlfriend? (She is pretty!) A lot of stars' beauty emerges gradually." He adds that he usually has a gut feeling about the opposite sex and will not just look in one place.
When Mandy Cho was asked how she found the contestants' figures this year, she smiled: "They are all very fit, but still need to lose a little weight. (Have you noticed Lee Ying's daughter, her figure is rather full?) I have noticed every contestant and I don't want to put pressure on them because I have been in their position and even if they are recognised, it is still pressure." As for her standards of judging beauty, she will first look at the waist because that is what gives the hourglass figure.
As the current reigning Miss Hong Kong, Mandy shared some experiences with the contestants and reminded them not just to think about winning or losing, because this will just add to the pressure. The most important thing is to relax and have some fun and this will make it all easier. Talking of the hard work in rehearsals, Mandy returned with a question: "Really? Last year I was really scared about dance rehearsals, because I don't dance much and it was really hard work, but you get used to it eventually."
The girls were made to wear figure hugging clothes at the event and 5 Cecilia Yeung and 8 Winnie Shum were soon picked out as needing the slimming treatment the most.
Cecilia admitted that she would most like to lose fat from her arms, abdomen and thighs. Although she is only 102 lbs, she has a small frame so has plenty of flesh on her. She says: "My waist is actually only 25 inches, but because I am rather short, it is affecting the overall look. I hope I can lose two inches from my waist. (Do you think you are disadvantaged with a fuller figure?) I haven't slimmed yet, I am confident I will look better after the regime." When it was pointed out that she is leaving time short with them flying out to Kenya tomorrow for the location shoot, she says that she has already lost weight since the first meeting with the press and she is following the diet recommended, cutting out the fatty foods and then using the slimming machines when she returns from Kenya to try and get a much better figure in the least amount of time. Although she is still quite chubby, this does not affect her confidence.
When Winnie was asked which part she would most like to slim, she smiles: "The papers say I have a piggy belly, so I would like to lose that and the fat between my breast and my belly so I look better in a tube top." Although she is 120 lbs, she does not feel she is fat and says: "When you return from overseas, this is what you are like. I don't feel my figure is bad, but I will slim down. I don't hope to lose so much as long as my figure is proportionate. (Have some contestants are laughing at your bum being big?) I havent been laughed at."
2 Irene Yu weighs in at only 98 lbs, but says that her face looks a little chubby on camera and would like to retify this with the slimming regime.
