I think Jackie Chan is cool, because in recent movies he has been able to combine action and comedy, like in the two Rush hour movies, and around the world in 80 days.
Also it is amazing to think that he is in his mid 50's and still able to to do the stunts that he does. I wish I could be as agile as he is when i am 50.

I really would like Jackie to act in Hk rather than in Hollywood....
I don't really like his movies in Hoolywood such as Around the world in 80 days and Tuxedo...

I think Jackie has made a lot of really great movie in the 80's and the 90's, but after drunken master 2, he didn't do a real great work.
He is a real actor (see crime story or drunken master 2), and it's a shame he only do stupid comedy in hollywood. That's why i'm very happy when I see the trailer of new police story (i really like the song), because its seems to be a great action movie, and a possibility for jackie to prove his dramatics skills.

NewsJackie Chan: My son's poor album sales is good, Friday October 1, 2004 Hong Kong
SING TAO - At a movie press conference two nights ago, Jackie Chan tells reporters that his son Jaycee's paltry album sales is a good thing "so that he knows riding on his daddy's name isn't guaranteed success!" From the beginning, the dad didn't want Jaycee to walk on clouds. "The best is if his album can't sell and his movies don't draw an audience. After he falls, he will know riding on his daddy's name doesn't guarantee success. But people tell me that his album is selling well in China." Does Jackie discipline his son? "I have to discipline myself first. If I'm good, he'll be good." The action star says his son loves music and won't console him. Jackie's new flick "New Police Story" grossed HK $8 million and is now in talks to sell the movie to America.

Wasn't it him, who was sent by his parents to Chinese Opera? If I'm not mistaken and it was him, then he started really early.

I don't think so. There are actors, who don't do anything lately... unfortunatelly.
It's just that he was making mostly American movies (not too good IMHO), and now a good New Police Story.

What do you think about Jackie Chan's recent complaints that he's been typecast in Hollywood, and that roles are limited for Asians in the US?
I can't help but take Hollywood's side on this matter. I'm not sure how you can cast Jackie Chan in a Hollywood drama or to be a leading man in a romantic film. His English isn't so great. And I don't think Jackie has the depth to be believable in movies like Casino or The Godfather. It's kind of like Robert De Niro going to China and complaining that the roles for Americans are limited in Asia. Well of course. He doesn't even speak our language.
Asking Hollywood to make this move is just so risky and unproven. I don't know if this is naive to say, but with all the money Jackie Chan has, he can make his own Hollywood movie.
I wonder if Jackie Chan goes to auditions in Hollywood? If he wants the part, he needs to try out for it just like everybody else. In Hong Kong, auditions aren't necessary for someone like him. He just gets invitations.

In a way you are right - but then: why to go to Hollywood? Just to get bad, stereotypical, limited roles, because you English is not perfect and you wouldn't suit into really interesting role? Andy Lau said NO to such treating and I'm glad about that. Seeing him in American movie is not impotant at all, seeing him in a good movie - that's what counts. Jackie should go back to HK and start doing good movies again, instead of staying somewhere, where he can't do anything really interesting.
Maybe they think acting in Americal movies is some prestige or something, but I don't see it that way. I want to watch good movies, and it doesn't matter where or by whom they were made, Americans, Asians, Europeans or aliens from Mars.

totally agree...although this is a jackie thread, just look at Maggie, good english, excellent actor, beautiful but is not popular in the US...why? because the home boys like their white bread....not that Im bitter about this or anything....it's better that Jackie (and Chow Yun Fat) work in Asia where they can do awesome work and be properly appreciated....even by us dorks in NA

Who says Asian moviesare only for Asians> I'm not Asianand I watch Asian movies just becasue I like them. I don't think I would watch, let's say, foreign movie just because a Polishstar acts in it. It has to be a movie interesting, not a Polish acting in it.

(12/29/2004) Jackie Chan and Albert Yeung Sau Sing's JCE film company made ENTER THE PHOENIX (DAI LO OI MEI LAI) and NEW POLICE STORY (SUN GAING CHAT GOO SI), both of which performed well at the box office. Two nights ago a JCE celebration was held and announcements of next year's releases were made as well, including the January release RICE RHAPSODY (HOI NAM GAI FAN), April release HOUSE OF FURY (JING MO GA TING) and the September release THE MYTH (SUN WA). The guests included the two bosses, Father Chan, Jaycee Chan (Fong Cho Ming), Karen Morris (Mok Man Wai), Stephen Fung Tak Lun, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho), Boy'z and others.
When the celebration began, the guests raised their glasses for a toast on stage then held a lucky drawing. For the HK$10,000 cash prize, Jackie Chan said, "JCE heir Jaycee (Cho Ming) will be drawing this prize." However, when the press asked Jackie Chan and Cho Ming to pose for a photo, Jackie Chan jumped away and said, "I don't want a picture with him."
As for the poor Hong Kong film market, Jackie Chan felt that the government and real estate companies should invest in film. Hong Kong film professionals can make movies for the government and the government owns the film rights. He will promote NEW POLICE STORY in Korea soon. Since the film has performed well, will a sequel be in the works soon? He said that DRUNKEN MASTER (JUI KUEN) took ten years for a sequel so he had no idea for now. As for rumors that he will work with ONGBAK star Tony Jaa on DRUNKEN MASTER 4, he expressed that he has not heard but he did not mind working with him. The suggestion is decent because Tony Jaa absolutely qualifies; but next year he will be very busy and believed that the chance to work together will be slim. As for his schedule next year, Jackie Chan expressed that he was too busy before and now he felt he should not just look at money. After the passing of his mother, he felt that he has owed his mother too much. His mother has toiled and never enjoyed the fruit of her labor. Thus he planned to move in with his father and take care of him more. As for Cho Ming's Metro Hit Radio new singer award, Jackie Chan questioned that whether Cho Ming was qualified to win an award.
Jackie Chan later will contact the Red Cross to see if he could help the Southeast Asia countries that the tsunami has affected.
Cho Ming said about his father leaving him JCE, "A son of course will inherit some things from his old man, like clothing, cars, or food; but as for movies, I will leave for Old Man to keep working on. I believe he can still work when he is 80. I don't have any talent in this area. As for other things, even if Old Man doesn't give it to him, I will ask him for it." As for the two of us in a movie together, Cho Ming believed that the chance was slim but nothing was impossible. He also said that because he did not want to win any sympathy award he will not attend any music award show from now on. Any award he wins then will be due to his merit.

he's been one of my heroes for about 10 years.

but anyways, i love his police stories. the fighting and action was eye candy for me hehe. his New Police Story was pretty good too. however i think my favorite jackie movie is Drunken Master II. the fighting was really good and the movie was funny.

The latest news about Jackie Chan :
Headline --- >> Should Jackie Chan be entitled to his comments or not?
2005/5/31
Jackie Chan, a Hong Kong kung fu star, has fans all over the world. Certainly tens of thousands of moviegoers in Taiwan love to watch his films. But, Pasuya Yao, director-general of the Government Information Office, said no invitation would be extended to the movie star to come to Taipei. The reason is that Jackie the Big Mouth said something to please Beijing and hurt the feelings of the people of Taiwan. Did Jackie do that?
According to Yao, Jackie was offending people of Taiwan by saying he would not come to Taiwan in the next four years lest he should be pelted with eggs at the airport. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, that referred to a melee that occurred at Chiang Kai-shek International Airport on April 26 when Lien Chan, chairman of the Kuomintang, was about to leave on what he called a "journey of peace" to China. Many of his opponents carried eggs -- not necessarily rotten -- with them, ready to throw them at him, if he ever appeared before the crowd. Fortunately, the Kuomintang chairman did not make his presence before the crowd, and unfortunately, his opponents had to clash with their opponents triggering the bloody free-for-all. Though Yao did not make it clear, Jackie committed another -- and much worse -- offense much earlier. The Hong Kong star described as a joke our presidential election of 2004 marred by the bulletgate scandal. President Chen Shui-bian was reelected on the power of sympathy votes after he had been shot at by an unknown gunman. Police finally made that gunman known but said he committed suicide because he had been tormented by a guilty conscience. There was no evidence to justify the police identification of the gunman.
Many people have to disagree with Yao. Jackie's fear of being mobbed may be exaggerated, but few think he made the remarks to please Beijing and offend people of Taiwan. Nobody believes there will be any egg-tossing spectacle unless it is staged just as it was in the April 26 clash. The GIO, the government agency that should have long ceased to be, should have taken a poll to find out if the people feel insulted before letting its chief condemn Jackie for insulting Taiwan.
The presidential election must not be a joke as Jackie said it was. But many people think it's a tragedy, on which the curtain has yet to fall. Chen's reelection was contested, and the Supreme Court is not in a hurry to pass the judgment on the case.
One thing is clear, however. Jackie was entitled to his ad lib, which was not made on purpose to please China and denigrate Taiwan.
As a matter of fact, a considerable number of people in Taiwan, probably Jackie's fans, consider it a mocking political joke, which they wish would never be repeated.
Jackie is only guilty of not mouthing mumbo jumbo that official Taipei regards as politically correct.

Jackie Speaks Out Against Piracy
At an anti-counterfeit promotional event in Hong Kong yesterday, Jackie spoke about the impact of buying counterfeit goods. He stressed that the effects of purchasing pirated goods was far-reaching and encouraged everyone to avoid supporting this illegal activity.
From the Associated Press:
HONG KONG — Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan battled copyright pirates Thursday, smashing fake designer watches with a hammer and using a chain saw to destroy a streetside stand hawking counterfeit bags and clothes.
Chan's assault on the illegal industry was part of a skit about him breaking up a counterfeit sales operation. The media event was organized by the International Trademark Association. "It may be funny to watch our skit. But there's nothing funny about counterfeits," Chan said.
The movie star said that piracy is seriously damaging the film industry in Hong Kong.
"Looking at the counterfeit problem, it really hurts," he said. "We used to make 300 movies a year here in Hong Kong. Now there are maybe 50 a year."
Chan used a flurry of karate chops against four assailants wearing Jackie Chan masks. He also cut a tie in half with scissors and ripped apart a pair of counterfeit shoes with his bare hands.
The trademark association said counterfeiting is an industry with a global market value of $500 billion US. It produces goods ranging from baby formulas and DVDs to automotive and aviation parts.

A recent survey conducted by the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) placed Jackie sixth on the list of people who are most admired by Mainland China Secondary school children. Drunken Master 2 Makes Time Magazine's All-Time Top 100 Films List
Jackie has been honored by Time Magazine by having Drunken Master 2 (also known as The Legend of Drunken Master) chosen as one of the top 100 films of all time. In light of the fact that there have been thousands upon thousands of movies made since movie-making began, this is indeed a great accomplishment. Here's what Time Magazine's Richard Corliss had to say:
The most important and entertaining star of east Asian cinema, Jackie Chan survived a boyhood in a punishing Peking Opera school, and his early screen days as "the next Bruce Lee" to create his own genre of martial-arts comedies. In each, he blended his engaging personality with beautifully choreographed, literally death-defying stunts —which, famously, Jackie performed himself. In his 1978 breakthrough, Yuen Wo-ping's Drunken Master, Chan played the real-life kung-fu hero Wong Fei-hung as an impish young man in need of a sifu (teacher) who could purify his technique and his spirit. In the sequel, 16 years later, Jackie is still a young Fei-hung (Anita Mui, eight years his junior, played his mother!), now up against malicious generals, spies and a hundred bad guys with superhuman fighting skills. The greatest of these is Ken Lo (Chan's offscreen bodyguard), whose battle over hot coals is an exhibition of flying arms and feet that leaves the two actors exhausted and the viewer's jaw on the floor. Jackie starred in, and directed, many wonderful action films in his pre-Hollywood days. This one can stand at the peak. —R.C.
Congratulations Jackie!

Jackie Does His Part to Increase Chinese Nationalism
The Chinese government is hoping that Jackie and other well-known local figures can strengthen national identity and knowledge of the Chinese national anthem in new and refreshed television ad campaigns. Jackie and others have added their narration to the ads in hopes that Chinese nationalism will be boosted. The national anthem will be played on the new "Our Home, Our Country" ads which will be a full minute long and will begin airing in China on May 23.
Jackie Talks About Chinese Movie Industry
While in Cannes, Jackie talked to the press about helping the Chinese movie industry compete with Hollywood's global dominance. "After China opened up all those years ago, they know how important the film industry is and the government helped a lot," Jackie told reporters. "There are a lot of big companies really supporting making movies. They know the power it has. Look at American film. American film is so successful, American culture is so successful." He admitted that it would not be enough just to have numerous movies; he acknowledged the need for good movies: "We have to have good quality. You have to (take) responsibility, you have to make a good quality movie."

Jackie Chan turning into a designer
From ETtoday:
Chinese action star Jackie Chan has been taking part in designing a fashion brand bearing his name. Lately the Kung-fu film star has turned himself into a designer of shoes and various accessories. Let’s go take a look at Jackie’s private workshop.
Besides making movies, this action-star has transformed his passion for fashion into real action. No you’re not mistaken, every fashion piece you see on this model, from the baseball cap, shirt and pants, are all designed by Kung-fu star, Jackie Chan. Take a wild guess and see if you can figure out what I am holding in my hands? It is a box of cookie that also bears the name, Jackie Chan. It looks like the Kung-fu star’s ambition doesn’t end with just Hollywood. “My brand name is very popular in both Europe and the United States. We are constantly coming up with new designs and cost-efficient methods to produce these goods. We want to make our products cheaper so everyone will be able to afford it. See my logo here on the shoe? But, once you tie the shoelaces you can’t see the logo so I’m going to improve it by moving the logo to the side or back of the shoe,” said Jackie Chan.
Besides having a successful movie career, the action-star has also been investing in a few different industries over recent years. Being a designer is just another hobby that he’s picked up for himself along the way of becoming an entrepreneur. “I always test out the products bearing my name. If I don’t like the design or if I don’t think it’s practical, then I tell the manufacturer and make sure that adjustments are done. I am not here to make a fast buck, but to create a long-standing business that will still survive even long after I’ve passed,” said Jackie Chan.
The Kung-fu star personally tests out every product and has become a fashion icon for his brand. Everything he is wearing at the moment is of his own creation. Jackie Sings Duet for Charity
Jackie joined fellow UNICEF Ambassador Agnes Chan in singing a duet for charity. The proceeds from the song, which is entitled "It's A Wonder" will be donated to UNICEF.
Agnes Chan has many things in common with Jackie. She began her career as an entertainer and soon realized that her good fortune was meant to be shared. She has been working for over 20 years to help children in need and feels that it is her duty to use her celebrity to help others. She is a professor, an author, an entertainer, and a hard-working UNICEF Ambassador as well.

Firefighter Jackie!
Decked out in full firefighter gear and arriving on a fire patrol buggy, Jackie threw his name behind the next World Firefighters Games in Hong Kong. Jackie was named an ambassador for the games, which pit firefighters from around the world against each other in sports events.
"A lot of people call me a hero," Jackie said. "Well, (firefighters) are real heroes; they are nameless heroes." He added that he plans on making a film about firefighters in the future. "I have had the script for 20 years. It is a dream of mine to make this film; if I do not make it, I will regret it," he said.

Film Piracy Hurting Hong Kong Film Industry
On April 27, 2005 a news conference was held in Hong Kong to address concerns about film piracy. As you know, Jackie is very outspoken against this crime. Film producer Lawrence Cheng, director Stephen Fung, Hong Kong Movie Picture Industry Association chief executive Woody Tsung, director Gordon Chan and Emperor Motion Picture CEO Albert Lee attended (Jackie was unavailable). The local film industry responded the next day, saying they would take legal action against local infringers. As many as one million illegal global downloads within one month were detected recently for Hong Kong movie 'House of Fury,' directed by Stephen Fung and produced by Jackie Chan.

I grew up watching Jacky Chans movies. The characters he portrayed, I believed that brought out through his own beliefs. I thought that he believed that a man should be a hero.
However, I met a few influencial people in Hong Kong. Some of which were mainstream reporters. They gave me an insight into Jacky Chan. They told me that he is nothing like the character which he portrays, that he is one of those people with no honour in his generation.
I began to understand that people in the media business who knew the truth did not like him. Jacky Chan is very well respected in the media industry in hong Kong. Aparently he has connections to a triad member who controls one of the newpapers, this guy is responsible for the upcomming of many new female stars. He pimps these girls off for high prices, and Jacky Chan is apparently on one of his "FREE" lists. A mogule who doesnt have to pay because of his connections.
Well.. this is what I heard. I havent put in much detail but guess you have the gist of it. I hope I havent offended anyone.
Jacky Chan I still respect as a producer and actor, but not as a person.
