Lee Young Ae is appointed as “UNICEF Special Envoy (유니세프 특별대표)” by UNICEF Korea Committee. In the press conference following the ceremony, Lee Young Ae states that it is her dream to perform service activity to children. Ahn Sung Ki and Andre Kim also attend the event. From now on, she will attend various charity events and make related promotional film for UNICEF (United Nations Children Fund).

Lee Young-ae Attempts Striking Makeover

Actress Lee Young-ae showed off a totally new image in her latest movie ¡°Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.¡± So far, Lee's image as commonly portrayed in her movie posters has been one of a naive-looking woman with long straight hair and no makeup whatsoever.

But the way Lee¡¯s character in the film, ¡°Keum-ja,¡± looks after she finishes 13 years of military service is completely different from Lee's previous image. In the story, Keum-ja is a fearsome character driven by revenge after being discharged from the army.

¡°Sympathy for Lady Vengeance,¡± which was filmed from Dec. 1 in Seoul, Busan, Gangwon Province and even Australia, wrapped up production on April 28.

The movie¡¯s final scene, which was filmed in Australia during April 19-25, has drawn much attention as it was filmed in secret and will remain undisclosed until the movie hits theaters, much like the final scene of the hit movie ¡°Old Boy,¡± which was filmed in New Zealand.

¡°Sympathy for Lady Vengeance,¡± the final chapter in director Park Chan-uk¡¯s three-part ¡°vengeance¡± series, has come into the spotlight for starring top stars and some 40 supporting actors. The movie opens in July.

Lee Young Ae is scheduled to visit Hong Kong on 5/20 and she will stay there for 4 days 3 nights. Due to the extreme popularity of her drama “Dae Jang Geum” in Hong Kong, the broadcasting TV station “TVB” invites LYA to visit HK providing her national-guest class treatment. During LYA’s stay in HK, she will have a press conference at “Grand Hyatt Hotel (그랜드하얏트호텔)”, a large-scale fan meeting, and she will attend a special TV program. I felt that the way she acted in Dae Jang-geum was marvelous! She felt through the whole thing...like she lived to be Jang-geum instead of some actress doing her job in the 21st century. She should be given more credit.

After watching DJG, I went to check out JSA! Her acting is very good!! Her English is better than I expected. At some points, its hard to hear her Korean accent. None the less, she got the Asian accent through out. Don't know if she was trying to use some Swiss accent or not. Good movie! The twist is amazing! It really got me 'jumpin out of my feet' at some point through the movie!

Fav series by LYA: Dae Jang Geum, closely followed by Fireworks (ok ok, I'm a sap

) but I did think it was a good series as well.

Fav movie: I don't think she has made any particularly outstanding movies yet, but I would pick Last Present as well - it was the best of the batch. I really couldn't follow JSA...

Lee young ae is so beautiful and I love her performance in Jewel in the Palace. It's one of the best series that I have ever seen. I was so touched by the storyline and the acting was just beautiful. I love her and Ji Jin Hee together!

I too cannot believe that this thread is not gaining more attention, since DJG is such a HUGE HIT

Lee Young Ae still remains single .. and she has no boyfriend at the moment.
OMG.. I am so looking forward to watch Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.. althought i know I can't really take her sudden change of a challenging role.. (total change of image too) but I do salut her for being really bold enough to go for a change.

I have seen JSA and One Fine Spring Day. JSA is an amazing show.. and yup, her english is not bad! Ermm.. I am not too sure you guys will take her role in One Fine Spring Day.. but I actually quite like the movie.

I can't really stand Firework's plot, but she did quite a good job in there. (That's the series that got her popularity risen in Korea)
But seriously, I think the name 'Jang Geum' will be with her for quite some time..she is so good in that series.

The VIP premiere of the movie “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance,” which was held July 18 at 8 p.m. at the CGV Yongsan in Seoul, drew more than 40 high-profile actors and 50 filmmakers. The actors included Song Kang-ho and Yoo Ji-tae, who both had cameo appearances in the movie, as well as Lee Byung-heon, Won Bin, Kim Tae-hee, Ryoo Seung-beom, Lim Su-jeong, Kim Ji-soo and Shin Min-ah. The film directors included Ryoo Seung-wan, who also appeared in the movie in a cameo.

The premiere was held in four halls of the CGV Yongsan theater, becoming the largest in scale so far. Prior to the VIP premiere, a premiere for journalists was held in five halls at 2 p.m. More than 1,300 reporters and movie industry representatives attended the event, showing great interest in the movie.

Actress Lee Young-ae said she would want to be a singer if she had a second chance at life. She made the comment during her appearance on ¡°Yoon Do-hyun¡¯s Love Letter,¡± which was recorded on July 19 at KBS¡¯ main building in Yeouido, Seoul.

¡±I would want to be an underground singer rather than a famous one. I feel a special rapport with the audience when I act onstage, and I am sure that feeling is even stronger when you sing in front of the audience. I used to sing a lot while in college," said Lee.

I relaly like LYA!!!! Ever since Fireworks!!!! Now I liek her even more since I just finished Dae Jang Geum. She was great. She looks good with Ji Jin Hee. Cant wait to see her new movie. How it iwll do well in the box office. But its R rated.

I heard from my mom that LEE-YOUNG-AE got caught doing drugs and since then ppl didnt want her in their movies or tv series until the guy who directed DAE JANG GEUM wanted LEE-YOUNG-AE to play the main character.....but i dont think she does drugs..she just doesnt seem like that kind of person

She is a great actress. I have read similar rumors in the newspaper. Lee used to be very popular in Korea until she had very negative news about her party girl life. I think she has grown mature and she decided to take the role in Jewel in the Palace that created a peak in her career. Her upcoming movie seems interesting. Congrats to her popularity!

the news about her taking drugs is not true. she took a test to prove herself innocent. I believe its all just false reports just like the report on Song Hye Kyo taking drugs which is not true as well.
