I believe 3rd generation Korean means , her parents & grandparents are also Korean but they live in Japan or something ~~ There's a small community of Koreans living in Japanese I think ~~ Tht's why her name sounds kinda Korean I think .

Maya (Asami Reina) in real life is same age as Mika (Sung Sunim) . They are both born in 1983 .
Park Shin Hye is so far frm them hehe , she's a 1990 girl .

the story lines with the brother and sister love is similar, but i just absolutely love LeeWan and Park ShinHye characters and love story far more than DBY. Somehow I thought most of DBY love scenes were very sexual. Versus the interactions of YS and Hana were really innocent but really deep. I really love this tree and cross necklace.

I usually hate sad and dramatic story ... but HT really is my exception. i love it






Yes the necklace is 2-in-1 .... There's two crosses, a border cross surround a small diamond cross inside --- like YS character would always surround Hana to protect her forever.

You might be able to buy the necklace at Koreantown at L.A or at Korean plazas (if you don't live close to Koreantown) if you want to have it. These days they sell necklaces and accessories that came out in Korean dramas, just like the STH necklace.

Oh, and the 3rd Generation Koreans means that Sung Sunim's grandparents immigrated to Japan and it was most likely before, during, or after the Japanese occupation in Korea or Korean war. Depends.
There are Koreans who were born and live in Japan. If you learn about Korean history, Japan occupied Korea for almost 100 years. Korea got their independence from Japan during WWII.
During the occupation, many Koreans were forced to speak Japanese only and many young woman were sent to Japan as prostitutes. Very bad time for the Koreans during the time (and a very touchy subject among my parents and grandparents). There are many controversies that Koreans don't have as much civil rights compared to native Japanese people in Japan and vice versa for Korea. To this day, both still have some bad images with one another and the producers of Tree of Heaven thought that having a drama with Japan will show better images and to learn something from each other's culture in a way. (Hope I'm making sense... T_T;;)

I finally finish watching tree of heaven. Every character are so touching. At the beginning, I did not like the character Maya that I found underhand and hypocritical. And finally, for the love she has drop all, and sureender to the police force. I like also Ruy, when yoon suh requires of him to take Maya care at the hospital, and that he refuses... All the characters are meadows to be sacrificed for the person whom they love... They finally make me like them

I love this series, but hated the ending!!!! I hoped it would end well, but as I already predicted it had a sad ending!!! Especially when "Oompa" died and gave his heart to Hanna....It's sooooo sad!!!! Wanted to cry....

I haven't finished watching it yet, but I am already hooked. The part where his brothers help him decorate the room for a surprise was funny.

Just finished watching it. Bought the dvd's of it. There was a mistake on the package and it was listed as 18 episodes. Darn! That was one of the most tear jerking series I have ever seen! Luckily I don't cry, but my wife is still weeping now.

yes...its a very sad ending...i was crying all the episodes except for like the first two...its a great drama though! its a must watch!! especially for all lee wan fans!

I am on ep 8 and it is getting pretty intense. I am actually glad it would be over soon b/c it is so sad and dramatic I dont know if I could take it anymore.

What a sad ending. I haven't cried like this in a long time. After all those "girl and boy are forced together and hate each other, but fall in love at the end" kdramas, it's ironic that it was refreshing to watch something that was so heartbreaking.

And oh, the cell phone video message scene .... that's when all the tears came. I've been recommending it to all my friends.

oh yeah...this series is really heartbreaking and touching!!! usually, i finished a series a day or two to watch...but this one, took me like a week just to finish it!!!

good acting by park shin hye and lee wan....they're my fave since Stairways to Heaven~~~hope to see them in another series....a romantic comedy for a change!!!

Just started to watch this series last night...I like it so far.. it somehow reminded me of beginning part of Stairway to Heaven.. You know.. Lee Wan's character there is very similar to the one in StH..

omg!!! i just finished watching this series awhile ago and i was like crying buckets on the last 2 episode...i was so affected by the story...the lead actors were superb on thier acting skills espcially lee wan...when ever he starts to cry, i cry...i love the dialougs too..."i promise to protect you...believe me...forever....how swettt!!!!! love this series!!!!!

i just finished this drama and i started watching it because lee wan was in it. And him and Park Shiin hey played the siblings in Stariway to Heaven too which made me want to watch it even more. It was really compared to STH, but i liked this one better becasue Lee Wan is in it and his acting is ssssooooooo good in this drama, i couldn't stop crying every time he cries.

I finally finished the series. It was a wonderful series. The characters were very innocent and acted very well. All the crying and dramatic scenes were done exceptionally well. I recommend this to anyone

Lee Wan is sooo HAWT! I'm watching this series on youtube cuz that's the only way i can watch it. IT's sooo good and sad...I cried the first few episodes and i've been trying to hold my tears back through out it. I'm jux about done with ep.6 i hope it ends well.

So far I really like it the first episode is odd but good and the first 10min of ep. 2 is ADORABLE. I love lee wan's attire in the show...

Just finished watching this series a minute ago... Here are some of my thoughts for da series:
1) The story portrays the "pure" true love between Hana and Yoon Suh... Oh my... Yoon Suh is just sooo perfect to his "sister".. He loved her so much that he gave his heart to her at the end...
2) If you notice (which should be quite obvious), PSH/Hana cries in every single episode.. she can be the second Choo Ji Woo (hehehe)
3) Yoon Suh has such an ill fated life... from beginning to end... the only good thing is that he at least found a real love in Hana...

yeah, i think so too....she's the next choi ji woo!!! wyl lee wan...reminds me of lee byung hun...hehehe!!! great portrayal in TOH!!!

So, now i'm finished with the series, and i was hoping no one dies but sadly hotness lee wan did...his character was really sweet. I don't wanna call it true love but to me it seems that way. i am a fan of sad dramas(MISA, 1 litre of tears) but this show went overboard. it tries too hard to make it sad. the characters overreacts on so many occasions. good storyline and actor/ress but too many scenes were unneccesarily dramatic, TOO dramatic. i dont find myself crying but rather wondering why the hell is Hana or Yoon Suh going crazy like that.

good drama, had alot of potential, but i stopped after 6.

Oo..i have a question: Does anyone have the lyrics to the song that Lee Wan sings to Shin Hye when they are on the ice? Do you have the translations too? That song seems soo sweet..esp. when LW has such a cute smile when he sings it. =)

I didnt' know Lee Wan could sing! lolz. anyway, my friend helped me dl it. but I saw it on that asianost site! < Asianosts.cjb.net > Just search in the korean drama section and it should give you the entire soundtrack! on youtube there was a video of the Tree of Heaven song...omg..the dialogue of LW screaming was kinda scary! haha. you shoudl watch it. it's really good.

Too many things in this series were repeated from Stairway to Heaven. Like the couples necklace, the piggyback riding in snow/ sand in STH and there was the evil cousin/stepsister in STH and evil aunt/stepmother in STH. TOH was like a continuation of the story of the brother and sister from STH. ahh during the whole time i watched this, remebering all these annoyed me to no end. Main reason why I watched it because it was made from the people of STH and because Lee wan was cute with his longish hair. This changed however when he got the clean military cut. I was like WHY LEE WAN WHY ?! And then basically moped throughout the whole series over the fact that his new haircut makes his face look chubby.

Didn't like the story line! Lee Wan does look a bit bulky! I prefer the other more entertaining dramas with better script!

I like this series despite some repititions being done and the overly crying scenes of Park Shin-hye. I can see that their acting are slowly honed and they have a kind of chemistry which appeal to the audience. Lee Wan has really come a long way since Stairway to Heaven. I hope they will pair again in a different kind of storyline to really show their versatility in acting. These two Korean entertainers will really have a bright future in the Korean film industry.
If you saw them in Stairway to Heaven don't ever miss the TREE OF HEAVEN. It's a powerful drama.
