maybe we should switch to maxis broadband (the wired one), my friend says he reaches max speed(70-90kb/s) with torrents as maxis DOESNT cap bittorrent speed.
but coverage area is limited and is more expensive RM99 for 1mb.

After some extensive searching through the internet, there is a way to bypass streamyx throttling. check this link -live urls are not allowed in your usergroup-

I live in Malaysia too and it's really bad. I use 512k package of Streamyx. My internet line can not use from around 8.00am almost everyday and I can use again around 7.00pm. The speed's very slow around 15kps After pass 1.00am, my internet speed can upto 30kps.

Well, Streamyx is being stingy. They are putting too many people on one node/exchange. They should limit the number of users on a particular node. ie, put more nodes! Call them up and ask if they can put you through a different exchange near your area.

Well as usual...Malayia have what other 1st world countries have....but never learn the need to improve it as time goes.
We are still stuck with 512 and 1MB packages while our neighbouring country singapore is already enjoying
10Mbps unlimited @ SD69.95 (~RM170)/month
5Mbps unlimited at SGD49.95 (~RM120)/month
And now they launch a 4Mbps plan at Rm198 a month.....WTF??
Oh by the way, if you dont know...there's a cable broadband offerring 100Mbps (yes its hundred) @ SGD129.90/month....
So where are we compared to our neighbours.....?? TMNET totally sux ass

Yes, it's like living in a jungle with monkeys. Most of the companies in Malaysia never tend to improve, instead they pass their day like the other lazy day. The companies know to blame us back or apologize but they never work out to find a solution to overcome the problem. This doesn't make any sense!! They feel they are always right but they are forced to make a meaningless apology I suppose.
Even I am using Celcom 3G with the most expensive package(up to 55MB) the speed I experienced was like hell. I got only 3.6kb instead. Celcom is too much expensive in term of its fake speed compared to oversea.

well..what can u expect from malaysia...not to say only telekom is monopoly the market, but also tnb and syabas and indah water..they will never tend to improve, but in the media, they will said that how good they are and how are they going to improve. but when u call them about customer service and to help u solve problem, u will get nothing from them, problem not solve, but only will put a technical report and wait.

I don't think so u can get good torrent speed from Streamyx. Since it block all the ports for torrents. I can say for me its ok at 1meg surfing download speeds. My FTP or download (non torrent) is almost 1meg too... pretty good. the 3.5G on Maxis or Celcom sucks big time.

lol Uk is pouring crap load of cash to upgrade its infrastructure to accomodate super fast broadband with the aspiration that every household will be able to enjoy the fast internet speed. High point being "crap load of cash". Looking at Malaysia's current economical situation, doubt anything will be done about that to help it push forward - not in the near future anyway.
Saying that, we can all moan and complain about TMNet but there is absolutely nothing we can do about it as it is not really privatised therefore no competition.

come to the UK and you'll know the feeling of being really ripped off. The lines are throttled almost the whole day sometimes up till 3am in the morning; and we usually get <500 kbps for a 4 Mbps line. and yes, it's £25/month which is like Rm175.

Not much better here in Aust.. I'm on a A$65 (~RM195) ADSL 1.5mbps plan.. the catch?
1. must bundle with home phone service (which costs another A$30)
2. 24 month plan.. meaning if u terminate ur service earlier.. u have to pay termination fees
3. 20+40GB download limit.. 20GB during peak hours.. and 40GB off peak.. exceeding limits will cause ur internet to be throttled to 56kbps..
cant remember exactly.. but i think streamyx only costs RM88 when my dad joined up when it first came out.. and it came with unlimited local calls too i think.. so yeah.. i wont say streamyx is the "suckiest"

The last time I went to visit Stramyx was't that bad.
Are you far away from the telephone exchange? Distance can impact the line quality.
Maybe switch to a different carrier would help.
