Squeaky-clean Taiwanese pop-star Vanness Wu chasing tough guy image

SINGAPORE Feb 14 - A psychopath, drug addict or serial killer are not characters fans associate with clean-cut boy band member Vanness Wu, but the teen idol says they're the kind of movie roles he wants to play.

After playing a boxer in his film debut last year - chopping his shoulder-length tresses for the role - the heartthrob from Taiwan's F4 said he is ready to take on tougher roles.

``I want to try `out of the normal' roles such as serial killers, drug addicts and psychos,'' Wu said in Singapore, where he is hosting Saturday's MTV Asia Awards.

``In the states they typecast Asians as triad gangsters, cooks, people who don't speak English, or are very smart in math,'' Wu said. ``I want to break out of that typecast.''

As part of his harder image, the 25-year-old has shelved his tight T-shirts and polished shoes for a tougher gangster-rapper image, complete with ear stud, chunky silver chain, and baggy faded jeans.

Wu said he is also working on a new rap and hip-hop record - a deviation from the winning Asian pop formula of love ballads, he admits - which he hopes will be out by the summer.

``If my second album does not do well, at least I'm doing something that I enjoy,'' Wu said, ``But I can't make everybody happy.''

However, the likelihood of Wu disappointing his fervent following of teenage girls across Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Philippines seems slim.

For days dozens of girls - some still in their school uniforms - wielding flowers and red heart-shaped balloons have staked out the lobby of his Singapore hotel and the stadium where the awards show will take place, hoping to catch a glimpse of the F4 idol.

Vaness latest drama copy-ing MG

Serial terbaru Vaness Wu yang berjudul Office Proposal bakal ditayangkan tanggal 4 April mendatang, namun gosip tidak menyenangkan sudah berhembus. Cerita serial yang juga menampilkan Hebe SHE (tampil menawan di serial The Rose) disebut-sebut sangat mirip dengan pendahulunya Meteor Garden.

Trans. : Vaness latest drama "Office Proposal" will be telecast 4 April, but already have gossips, about how the storyline copying MG story.

It is said that Vanness Wu's 2nd older sister, Wu Xin Ying (Wendy), is entering the entertainment circle. She is only a year older than Vanness and is also an ABC. She's been in Taiwan for several months. Her Chinese isn't as good as her brothers, however her dancing is more ferocious. It is said that she will be releasing a hip hop album this year, preparing to sing and dance.

Sisters, brothers, all performers
Vanness and his 2 sisters are all performers. His oldest sister for previously a member of the idol group Baby. Nowadays she is married with a child living in the US. Now her sister has taken over. It has also been heard that before, when Vanness attended events, he would ask Wendy, "What should I wear today?" When Wendy was in the US, she was originally the fashion director of the famous brand Morgan. She therefore is a good fashion coordinator. Hello Guys!!! These are some updates on Vanness's concert in Cebu: (Joed Serrano wanted me to post this)

- Vanness stayed in Shangrila Mactan
- He went for a swim with the staff, concert promoters, organizers and producer (10AM-11AM)
- He wore white bikini trunks
- He was so gorgeous and sexy
- When Vanness jumped to the pool, Joed Serrano got out of the pool bec he was too "embarrassed"
- Vanness asked Joed, "Aren't you going to swim again?" Joed answered, "Nope! I am done already"
(dude, i can't believe that you are shy!! )

- Vanness was so happy with what happened during his concert in Manila
- Vanness really appreciated what the fans did for him
- Vanness was so thankful with the "welcoming" gifts OnlyF4 sent him
- Vanness got sick when he arrived in Cebu (too tired)
- Vanness performed so well during his concert in Cebu!!

Rumoured HK Slimming Centre knocks on its Door

F4 selling "body" to earn woman's money! Hong Kong shows it powress at its slimming centre, Modern Beauty Salon. After Sammi Cheng & Anita Mui, the two top spokesperson, they decided to change the attention to a male, discussing to invite F4's Vanness Wu and Ken Chu to be the first male spokesperson, and using 400 million as the price of hard work, to lure them to get off their tops and lu liang dian to perform!

HK's beauty salon competetion have always been very stiff. This time, Modern Beauty Salon, decided to change the market of not using woman as their spokesperson but hopes to use a male celebrity to promote. They actually wanted to invite the whole of F4 to be the spokesperson, but as the price to pay was very huge, and as they intended to hit into Singapore recently, they decided to use Ken who had a level of popularity in Singapore as their spokesperson.

Although the amount of the advert was appealing, the company requested them to be off their tops, to show the muscular self, causing the management company to be hesitating. When asked about Manager(XiaoZhi) frm Fu Long, he admitted that Modern Beauty Salon did send out the invitation. However, their first option wasn't Ken but , the the energetic Vanness.

Manager Zhi said, " The company hopes to find someone who's appearence is healthy, sporty male, to match the pretty female lead. Thus, Vanness was in the choice as he grow up in US. However, as contract and everything is still in discussions, so its not confirmed yet. It's a fact that the beauty salon normally uses a female as their lead, although we have not sign the contract but have read everything. Standing at the point of the managementcompany, we won't agree to be off their tops to perform."

Lu Liang Dian whenever fliming shows

However, Vanness would often expose his top whenever in concerts. In Star Runner, he had scenes of being topless when doing boxing scenes. Now, even if they do Lu Liang Dian, it won't be suprising. In the other way, the one who has more la wei in F4, Ken Chu, would give people more persuading thoughts if he were to pick up this spokesperson role. Sony Award Winners boycotted Pepsi-Music-Chart Award

Sony Music singers totally won 14 awards in Pepsi-Music-Chart Award.
It is the record company which won the most awards,
and yet none of the winners was present to accept the awards.
All awards were accepted by a representative who was hissed by audience.
Even the president of one sponsor couldn’t help but complaining on stage.

The 4th annual Pepsi-Music Award had 61 categories.
Nan Su, Eason Chen, and Jay Zhou were the three biggest winners across China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
Jay received 8 awards, Fay Wong three awards, plus, F4, Vic Zhou, and Jolin Chai one award each;
Sony Music won 14 awards; more than one 5th of total awards,
but Sony singers were all absent from the award ceremony.

Audience booed at the representative who went on stage to received awards.
When the last category was awarded to Jay,
the president of Light Co. openly criticized
”Some record companies do not know the rules.”
He then agitatedly claimed that none of the award winners won by negotiation.


Reportedly, some source said that Sony Music attempted to get big awards for Leehom Wang and failed.
Eventually Wang did not get any award.
It makes people think this might be related to all singers’ not showing up as a group.

"It's natural. If I came to see f4 fans, anti-f4 wouldn't want to see me either," Wu

Adored by screaming girls and increasingly respected by critics and fans of "real" music, Vanness Wu is not going anywhere. You're gonna have to deal.
"All I try to do is make music," says Wu. "That's where I shine."
He's not the only one who seems to think so!
"If I had to assume the ages of the people, they looked like 20 to 26 or 35, like couples, and mothers and daughters and sons and fathers, and it's cool," Vanness said about audiences on every tour. "It's nice to have so many different cultures and so many different, ages and generations in one room."

"It's vocally more demanding," Wu says of singing solo. "It's like I'm using my voice for the
whole show, you know. There's no half-stepping . . . it's me out front."
As popular as Wu was in F4, there was no guarantee that "2nd album" would be a hit.
Sometimes, members of hugely popular groups go a different route and become a pop/dance phenomenon, or go the route of another one and just go away.
"I really had no expectations. I just wanted this to do good," "Being a
perfectionist, I really didn't expect this to go well . . . People have responded to the music. They
used to come up to me and say really random, off-the-wall things..It means they're not paying attention to the song title. They're listening to the music. And that was a goal with the record."

He's also disproving those critics who can't stop gleefully eulogizing "teen pop."
"Teen pop will never be dead," Wu says. "Obviously, it moves on. As long as there's teens,
and we have a culture with popular music, it'll never die. It just takes on a different head.
The future looks bright for Vanness, so bright that he's not spending a lot of time dwelling on the
specifics. Possibilities include a transition into more movies, which will wait "until the right project comes," he says. "I don't want to do something just to do it, to when I'm old say, 'Remember when I did a movie?' "
And there will likely be a reunion with F4. Vanness says he's looking forward to getting back
into the studio with them and doing something "new" and "different."
Whatever happens with the group, Wu seems to be enjoying being out front, without a net and without anything holding him back.

Vanness Wu kissing Hebe "ji ji" noises

Vanness & Hebe had to use the Director's hands to help when doing the kissing scene. Yesterday, at Tai Shi's Qiu Hun Shi Wu Suo Shi Pian Hui, he spelled out, " When i kissed Hebe for the first time, her lips didn't move at all." Director laughed and said, " I just have to sacrifice my fingers to touch both of their lips to teach them how to do the kissing scene."

Acting for the first episode, " Ma Que Bian Feng Kuang" 's Hebe, when asked about her kissing scene, she said, " It was the first time i was fliming a kissing scene, of course i am nervous." Vanness even laughed at her, " Lips didn't move at all", hoping that the Director would teach her to do kissing scenes. Director said, Although the both of them was very nervous at the start, and needed his fingers to teachm they gradually went into the mood and even created sounds.

f4 invited to be murderers

Idol group F4 will all be filming a movie, "Sha Shou De Lao Dao" (Murderer's Clack) together. Looking into the vast Chinese market, Kang You Shuo revealed that he's officially advancing into China this year. Furthermore, he has already put forth a lot of money to sign popular idol group F4 to star in this Chinese version of "Sha Shou De Lao Dao," a comedy drama. This movie is based on a 2001 movie that Korean hottie, Won Bin, starred in. The movie is scheduled to start filming in June in China.

Next paragraph is about the S. Korean movie, "Shi Wei Dao Feng Yun" and how it's really successful, breaking a record.

Apart from being a director, Kang You Shuo is also the chairman of a famous movie company, Cinema Service. Besides manufacturing movies, he also designates the publishing of Hollywood movies. Kang You Shuo expressed that this is a very important year for his movie company because they will be advancing to the entire Asian market. They plan to establish branch offices in Japan and China and have F4 lead with the Chinese version of "Sha Shou De Lao Dao." This is the touchstone to attacking the Asian market.

Kang You Shuo also revealed that they signed F4. According to reports, F4's Jerry Yan and Vanness Wu has stepped into the movie industry in the past year with Jerry starring in "Magic Kitchen" and Vanness in "Star Runner."

"Sha Shou De Lao Dao" was originally Kang You Shuo's movie starring Won Bin, Shen He Jun and others. In the movie, Won Bin portrayed a boy who wanted to become a murderer. When it premeired in South Korea in 2001, the box office was considerably good. It ranked 8th place in the Top 10 movies of the year. Kang You Shuo said this movie has exactly 4 leading roles, it suits F4 very well. Although he has never seen F4, he's aware that they are very popular so he believes that this should be a success. As for the amount that F4 will be receiving, Kang You Shuo laughingly said that another group of people are in charge of this so he isn't too clear about the exact number. "But it's probably very expensive!"

Sunshine boy Vanness, the best singer and dancer of F4, is a hottie in the hearts of fans. However, he has been dumped by his Korean girlfriend. This left him in grief and he jie jiu jiao chou. (it's something like he drunk to forget his sorrows) His mood was down to the thalwag. Finally, it was F4, his brothers, who encouraged him to stand up again. Vanness Wu has been nominated for the Best New Performer award in the Hong Kong Film Awards for his role in "Star Runner." He arrived in HK today to take part in this awards ceremony. Yesterday, he did a repair shooting for "Office Proposal." It was a heart broken hangover scene. When the director Niu Cheng Ze taught him how to make himself drunk, Vanness picked up the bottle of wine and drank it all. "It's close enough right? When I'm unhappy I would like to get drunk." Niu Cheng Ze followed by saying, "After being drunk, also continuously cried - you hit me, you hit me, right, it's related to a drunken joke of F4. People in the circle knows."

Vanness open-heartedly said,"After filming 'Come to my Place,' there has been rumors that F4 will disband. It's like everyone didn't see that we'd have a future. Whatever we did there would be someone who criticized us. One day, the four of us went to have a drink. We drank so much we all dropped down.All the way we continuously cried, 'We won't disband, we are F4 forever.'" Afterwards, not only did F4 not disband, but they also held a concert in China. Instead, he feels scared regarding his image in “Office Proposal.” Vanness laughingly said, “This drama was finished filming a very long time ago, my appearance in there is very different from the my appearance now. 23rd HONG KONG FILM AWARDS

Oops! The Trophy is not yours, Vanness

IT wasn't a night of surprises, but it certainly was a night of boo boos.

At the 23rd Hong Kong Film Awards ceremony held last night at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to honour the best in the film industry, there were jokes that fell flat, presenters who slipped up an a trophy that nearly landed in the wrong hands.

And the award for the biggest faux pas, had to go to F4 member Vanness Wu.

The poor chap, who was nominated under the Best New Performer category for his debut movie Star Runner, was lefty hot under the collar when he mistakenly thought he had won.

The award was meant for his co-star Andy On instead, but the confused Taiwanese star ?having misheard the announcement made in Cantonese ?had made a run for the stage the moment he heard his movie being called.

He had the precious trophy in his hands for a few second before presenter Stephen Fung gently corrected him and passed it over to the correct owner.

Stunned for a moment, Vanness then quickly turned the awkard situation into a joke.

When Andy ribbed him by asking what he was doing onstage, Vanness retorted cheekily:?Isn't that my award
Thankfully for Vanness, Andy was gracious enough to share?the award with him.

But Vanness was't the only red-faced one last night.

Host for the night Dayo Wong, who tried to a Billy Crystal by putting himself into a short clips of the movies nominated for Best Film, failed to tickle some of his audience.

In fact, Best Actor nominee Andy Lau sported a distinctly sour expression after Dayo poked fun at his movie Running On Karma.

Then some presenters, like veteran comedian Ricky Hui, were so anxious to reveal the result that they almost forgot to wait for the nominations to be announced first.

Embarrassing as these boo boos might be to those concerned, they actually provided some relief to the rather colourless awards ceremony this year.

Having kicked off on an unusually somber note, with Eric Tsang leading a tribute to the celebrities who died last year ?Leslie Cheung, Anita Mui, Blacky Ko and Richard Lam ?the atmosphere of the ceremony failed to pick up after that.

There were no nail-biting moments, and neither was there any emotional outburst on the part of the winners.

Mr Ricky Tse, assistant general manager of distribution and sales for movie company Media Asia Films (the people behind Infernal Affairs), felt that the results were very predictable.

He said: they were just as I expected, there were no surprises. Last year, Infernal Affairs swept the awards, but this year, there isn't any movie taking the lion's share of the awards.

but it's good because everyone who deserves an award, is going home with one.

Vanness Wu, nominee for Best Newcomer award, makes a mistake, because nominated along with An1 Zhi4 Jie (the guy who played Tank in Star Runner) who was also from Star Runner, when An Zhi Jie won, Vanness doesn't understand Cantonese, but once he heard 'Star Runner' said in Cantonese, he thought he
had won, and immediately went on stage, and took the award. Just when he was about to speak to the audience, he realizes his mistake and hands the award over to An Zhi Jie, then stood aside feeling embarassed. Then, An Zhi Jie offered an explanation, and said that he and Vanness made a deal that no matter who won, if it was one of them then both would go on stage together and share the glory.
