ENERGY BETTER OFF COMPARED TO 5566 THAN F4?
In the business, what is the most prized possession of an artist?
Vanness, a popular celebrity from the popular group in Asia, F4.
Recently, Vanness and the other F3 have been in headlines for negative
criticisms and negative news. Jerry Yan in a headline going solo and
leaving F4 behind. ZZ being put in a malicious act, has been victimized
by internet users, commonly known as "i'm zz" from online chats and
forums asking for money and *** from teens idolizing F4. Vanness has also
been targeted by false accusations that his Star Runner Movie was not
a box-office hit, and that the whole F4 group is already disbanding
when in the first place, they were never a group. They were just formed
because of Meteor Garden. And fans from then on learned to love them
as F4 and not just casts of the phenomenal series. Energy, one of the most
popular group is instead being compared to 5566 rather than F4, which only
means, 5566 is maybe more popular than F4?
YOur comment on Energy "We are better off compared to 5566 than F4"
What is his reaction?
According to Vanness, after all these news,
is it possible to remain peaceful if someone destroys one of his prized
possessions?
"Peace is my prized possession. I don't have a say about the comparison
between 5566 and Energy. Both of them are friends, and I am dismayed by
the fact that we are being compared and thus, you can hear a lot of
negative remarks from one fan to another which undoubtedly hurt us.
People keep on making judgements on us. In a business like this, we cannot
set aside the fact that one artist will be compared to another one, that
is professional rivalry and a health competition, sometimes you have to
join the competition to improve your craft. Energy and 5566 are both
groups that require more dance steps, F4 as a group is more on poppie-ballad.
Our group is friends with everyone!
we don't have any problem dealing with the situation, we are also ordinary
people who believe that competition should not be taken seriously and let it
affect our respective lives, we all do work for ourselves, for the group
for our fans and for our families.
What is to be gained from losing my peaceful nature, and what benefit
is there in acting in a calm and rational way? If I have all the wealth I
desire, name, fame and glory yet am without health, happiness and peace
of mine, can I enjoy that wealth? And what value does it really have if
I cannot enjoy it? Peace of mind is one of my most prized possessions, I may
spend my whole life looking for it, yet I will allow the most incident to
rob me of whatever little peace I may possess. After all the rumors
circulating anywhere, if I succumb to anger, then just observe how
much energy is being used in a destructive manner.
WHy not use that energy instead in a more creative manner? If something
has been taken from me, like what I said my peace of mind,
instead I'll try to learn the appropriate lesson and move ahead.
In this business, you need to learn how to be strong! Your strength will
move you forward, and my anger or tears absorbing this news will not
resolve the situation"

5566 NO LIMIT FOR F4
THEY made the most unlikely idols. A passe Hokkien pop star, a forgotten boyband member, a former national soccer hero and two unknown faces.
But, combined, they have enough boyband horsepower to make F4 sweat.
Say hi to 5566, the latest pop sensation hailing from the land of pretty boys.
If you're scratching your head and wondering, 'Is that a 4D number?', you're not alone.
Yet the dauntless quintet, who catapulted to fame on the strength of the idol drama, My MVP Valentine, has declared war on F4 by releasing its debut album two weeks before the latter's sophomore outing.
The result? Shocking.
While F4 is busy serenading fanatical fans in Hong Kong and China, 5566 is quietly hogging the No 1 spot on Taiwan's CD sales chart.
In just two weeks, it has sold over 100,000 copies of its first album - titled, er, First Album.
F4's Fantasy 4 Ever, however, only made it to No 3, despite pre-sale orders of 30,000 copies.
Here in Singapore, the two pop groups are also locked in a neck-to-neck battle.
F4 made its debut at No 3 on the Recording Industry Association Singapore CD sales chart last week, one notch above 5566.
Their respective soundtracks - F4's Meteor Garden II and 5566's My MVP Valentine - are tied at ninth position.
So how did 5566 manage to rock F4's boat?
After all, the quintet, which was discovered by SET TV, was hardly in the news as a result of competition among rival TV stations.
But despite the lack of media exposure, their talents shone through.
5566, which comprises Tony Sun, Zac Wang, Jason Hsu, Sam Wang and Rio Pang, has proven that it lives up to its name.
FIVE GUYS, SIX TALENTS
Basically they are five guys with six talents - namely singing, acting, dancing, hosting, modeling and slamdunking - which has earned them the respect of many fans.
Touted as Taiwan's answer to Japan's oldest boyband Smap, the party of five has also become the role model for showbiz wanabes.
Mr James Kang, regional marketing and promotions manager for Music Street, which distributes 5566's album, said: '5566 represents the various ideals of young people.
'It demonstrates that a well-rounded array of talents is necessary to hit the big time.'
Meanwhile, F4's Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Ken Zhu and Vanness Wu have yet to convince critics that they can hold a tune.
Dancing-wise, only the US-born Vanness can move to the groove.
The others are either transfixed to the ground or sway their bodies like stiff robots.
Hosting? Don't even think about it. The last we saw them on TV, the guys were just too tongue-tied.
5566's wacky Zac and goofy Jason, however, managed to turn the ratings of Showbiz around and make it the most popular entertainment programme in Taiwan.
They have a big following, which includes many loyal Singaporeans who tune in to the programme shown on Channel U every morning.
Unlike F4, who drive mostly pubescent girls crazy, 5566 appeals to both guys and girls.
In fact, the president of its official fan club in Taiwan is as macho as his idols.
Singaporean Ms Karen Chan, an administrator in her 20s, is such a big fan of Tony's that she set up a website dedicated to him and flew to Taipei recently to attend 5566's press conference.
'Each of the guys sings very well, and each has his own style,' she told The New Paper.
'They are really all-rounded. Not many groups are like them.'
Comparisons aside, is 5566 feeling the heat of competing with F4?
Tony, who leads the group, said: 'Healthy competition among groups is okay.'

"It's not Coming Back" - Energy
Jerry Yan looks to have sunk the final nail into the coffin of
F4, after admitting he "can't see it coming back together", but we
can still work together in a certain limitation"
Vanness - the only member of the former successful boyband, F4 to have
enjoyed a notable solo career - appears to have confirmed months of
speculation about the future of the band and is now project of his
upcoming 2nd solo album.
Energy member Kunda quoted: "A lot have gone on and have risen, a lot of
groups have come with respective projects and activities, and F4 have not
been talking in quite awhile to form another group activity in taiwan
or even in hongkong, no one has ever invited them as groups because fans
know they are no longer a group and will never be a group, so to be really
honest, I don't think anything's going to happen with that group to be
formed again as F4!."
Since embarking on his solo venture, Vanness has consummately
overshadowed his fellow F4 members in their attempts to carve
out successful careers alone especially in America where Vanness targets to
invade pretty soon.
ZZ has been in taiwan charts since the release of his 2nd solo album, but
Ah Di (Energy) was quick to comment "His single Ji De Wo Ai Ni had come in
sharp contrasts to 5566's single, whose careers are blooming, and
Chou's singles or the whole album was in a disastrous chart placing .
In the interview, Kunda concludes: "I don't know what's going on
to be honest, but I can't see it coming back together, by no fault of
anyone."
Asked about 5566 success in Singapore and Taiwan.
Kunda admitted "they have conquered the hearts of chinese people, they
are the real successful group in taiwan, and even in hongkong, but we
Energy are not left behind"

IT'S OVER FOR F4, BUSINESS IS OURS - MILK
"The business is over here," Niu Nai, 23, also known as Milk from the Group Energy stretched
his left hand out! "And the artistry... he continued "is over"!
Inspired by the success of the 80's breakdancing Management of Energy decided to recruit
and groom the 5 boys hippie own-cut boyband.
Energy best known for its hip-hop acts, and break-a-leg performances was coaxed into
signing as one of the groups to beat F4. Their revivals hit in Asia,
with a different tune, harmony laden pop step and the alternative rock of the time.
When teenybopper bands like the F4 and 5566 began to succeed in Asia,
Management decided to turn the table upside down and decided to beat F4 and 5566!
But the popularity of F4 wore down skeptics at radio stations and MTV.
When the album didn't cross the million marks in sales, it heralded the cultural arrival
of Generation 2000, as Energy has beaten F4, and is now ready to beat the best among the
taiwan Artist, 5566.
Due to Ren Fu Zax Wang comment about the queueng of 5566 fans for the autograph session, he
was misunderstood by fans of Energy and Niu Nai reiterated "If 5566 think they were the only
group who can make fans queue longer, they are wrong, if they made it the first ever to make
a history of such crowd, Energy can somehow beat that too, they can be the best group now,
but watch out for Energy, we are not left behind, there are only 2 groups competiting, it's
5566 and Energy"
Shu Wei added "5566 has the force and no doubt for the explosion in teens and adults of their
purchasing power in Asia, we are starters, if 5566 succeed so high, we can also do the same thing,
It's only a professional rivalry, nothing personal, Ren Fu knows that"
As with nearly all sudden pop sensations, a conflict soon grew between the F4 group,
who wanted time off to relax and find perspective, and the business forces behind them,
who wanted to keep the momentum going.
"F4 never got so big they got tired," Kun da said. "And after a while, it became not
about managing them but reasoning with them. Everybody in the group wanted to be popular, wanted
to become hot, matters grew worse, nobody managed to give in" Literally, a group that has no
harmonious relationship, and always battle each everyone turns to be un-solid and break up, they
lost its drive"
Meanwhile, Energy works hard and deserves the breakthrough.

Jerry and Vanness on the same line, ZZ and Ken - Unlimited spotlight.
Vanness
Battle Code: Let you either make or destroy yourself
Vanness has not renewed his contract with Fu Long either. After he joined Fu Long, he has not been given many opportunities either. Fu Long doesn't have any real plans for him, so they let him make or destroy himself.
Battle Method: Give Up
Most of Vanness' activities in 2003 was focused his movie Star Runner. He lived mostly overseas, and Fu Long arranged this to make him disappear from the Taiwan market. Vanness has never been close with Fu Long and now that his contract is up, they are afraid he will team up with Jerry, so they use the method: "rather kill wrongly than miss."
Battle Method: Benefit Show
Apparently, Vanness' stil undecided. Hence, Fu Long presents for his fans, the idea that he will release a Xie Zhen Ji and second album, in hopes that he will renew. The motive is obvious, if Vanness renews, his future is unlimited, if not, then he will face the same obstacles as Jerry.

Vanness like bird in cage
Posted: March 13, 2004
F4 member, Vanness Wu, released his own album after going solo and went on promo around countries. When he went to Indonesia for promo, and stepped out of the airport, he saw a chaos situation. He was thinking, " have he met a riot here? " After checking through, he realised the crowd came for him at the airport. There were over hundreds of police to maintain the situation and also bodyguards securing him, making him feel like a bird in a cage.
Because of some reasons for security, whenever any celebrity comes to Indonesia for promo, security level comes first. The management company had to think whether it'll work. And when friends around Vanness heard that he was going to Indonesia for promo, all of them carried a shocked expression with words scaring him, " Indonesia is biased towards chinese ! Be careful !" Not only did Vanness wasn't afraid, he even told his manager that, " Don't be afraid! I'll protect you!"
In order to recieve Vanness in honor, Indo's unit specially did arrangements. Other than the huge group of "soldiers" at the airport, they even booked the President Suit Room at the hotel for him. The hotel's president suit was normally only left for political people. In this, we could see how the crew welcomes Vanness in courtesy. Although there were already lots of heavy security around Vanness, they even bought insurance for him at 200 million US dollars, to finish up the million dollar security.
However, due to security, they requested Vanness to be good and stay in the hotel unless he needs to go for concerts and promo events. Ten bodyguards were stationed at each exit of the hotel to make sure that no fans sneaks in. The security with no air blown in had made Vanness suffer from the cage shock.

There is chance that F4 might unite as guest presentors:
The first 3 years of Music Feng Yun Bang Awards Ceremony has been spectacular. Hence, for the fourth year, the music event is the look out of all media representatives. Organisors have revealed that Eason Cheng, Jay Chou and many other stars will be attending the ceremony. Faye Wang, Stephanie Sun and others appearance will made the event even more star-studded. Another point to make is that organisors have revealed that F4 are very likely to make a special appearance and gest presentors. If that's the case, they this will be the first time that F4 have united since they went solo.

E.N.E.R.G.Y is AH-DI ENERGY
On my forced hiatus I was confronted with a medium
which I'd all but forgotten: Real Journalism ™
After a day or so of continual reading and viewing,
I noticed a trend toward rogue boyband members going solo.
Why?? Why?? Is splitting 100 billion dollars five ways
not enough money to survive on for THE REST OF YOUR
LIFE??
Is Your Band Breaking Up? Why Does Band Break?
"Not, after Toro left, it doesn't mean, we are breaking
apart, we all know we are a band, a solid group with one
goal" Milk clarifies. "Meng Zhe and Wang also were in the news
having injured badly during rehearsals but they are not breaking up.
And let me tell you, the reason why other bands break
up because there is no need for it. They have made enough
trashy music to fill a garbage tip and going solo really is just
committing crimes against humanity! Yan has made the worst
decision ever, but if deciding for himself is best for him
and leaving the group who has made him big and known, go
ahead, like me, if it happened to me, I will not stay with a group
who I feel uncomfortable with, no matter how much effort you
hide the truth, it will come out, people will know that, hence
it will just ruin your fame. The number 1 factor of it to stay longer
in the business is "on't brag, don't lie to your fans, and don't pretend,
be close to your group mates, love and not envy", those qualities
lack F4 which apparently is too much for Energy and 5566"
Shu Wei added "if you love your group, show it not only infront of the
camera, or front of the fans, show it even if your group is not
exposed to media or fans. If one member realizes his mistake, he can still
go back but the percentage of their fame is another story"
However, F4 is yet to crack the elusive All-Asia-Market before calling themselves
popular, only selling a measly thousand records so far. Is it too late for them?
Although according to Shu Wei,5566 is a huge crowd-drawing force
since they started, they are not exposed on news but they have a stand on.
According to Medella, 5566 and Energy top the charts and surveys
in Taiwan in important musical markets. According to Media Papers,
F4 never made it big to their hometown which is one of the reasons why
a lot have been doubting on their abilities, if not for their good looks,
they will not make it big in Hongkong.

Taiwanese media have credited F4 as the most popular band,Energy the acrobatic exhibitioners, Comic Boyz the cutest, 5566 the
best singers and dancers. But.......
JJ, known artist in Taiwan reportedly sniggered when he first heard of
F4's album. "Their singing sucks, they need more private tutor before
they make it big, singing is not about good looks, it's about talent.
Vanness is the only person I can see who not only has good looks but
also has talent, otherwise. JJ also poohed 5566 "this quintet can sing
and dance, but I don't like their style, they are like F4 made up. The only
difference between them, 5566 is too close enough to think they are like
girls, while F4 is a disaster off cam and that image is uncool!

Vanness Wu and Hebe - 'bo'
For Director Niu Cheng Ze’s drama “Office Proposal,” Hebe of S.H.E experiences many “first times.” This includes the “first kiss” with Vanness Wu, the first time wearing a wedding dress, first time exposing her legs (or shank), first time gang guan dance and more. Director Nie Cheng Ze praised Hebe for her progress in her acting skills in just one month. Hebe said, “At the beginning I was very an outsider towards acting. I didn’t have confidence. However, the company wants me to act, I can only accept. I never thought that just a month of training would have an unexpected achievement. I’m starting to love acting.”
“Office Proposal” will be broadcasting on April 4th. The first frame, “Sparrow Transforms Into a Phoenix,” will star Vanness Wu from F4 and Hebe from S.H.E. Dou Zi laughingly said, “I’m probably the one behind facilitating F4 and S.H.E’s marriage connections!” Hebe will be portraying a young lady from Bing Dong Xiang who falls in love with the ABC who returned from America, Vanness Wu.
Talking about the 2 kissing scenes, Dou Zi laughingly said, “When the 2 film kissing scenes there is a ‘bo’ sound.” Hebe shyly said, “No, there wasn’t!” In the drama the two fall madly in love. Did it help spark any love outside the drama? She said, “In private, we seldom chat. I don’t get his American style jokes.”
Besides kissing scenes, it was also the first time Hebe wore a wedding dress.

Vanness Wu falls in love with a sparrow
Is Vanness Wu and Hebe's "Office Proposal's" first monophyletic, "Sparrow Transforms into a Phoenix" a clone of "Meteor Garden?" The director said, "The two stories are completely different."
"Official Proposal" will be airing on April 4th at 9:30pm. In the drama, Vanness is a 2nd generation businessman. He returned to Taiwan to manage his family's business. Hebe is a shimmering member of a singing group. The two's identities are distant, but they accidentally come across each other and fall in love and also decide to elope.
The story of "Sparrow Transforms into a Phoenix" is similar to Dao Ming Si and San Cai's relationship in "Meteor Garden." But the director hasn't a different point of view. He said, "These are too completely different dramas. Office Proposal is completely taken from society. The differences in identity just adds to the drama. I found all new roles, it's not the fantasies in cartoons/mangas/anime. Like Hebe's role is from a shimmering 3 sister."
The director indicated that Vanness and Hebe both represent a different type of acculturation. Vanness is an ABC and Hebe is a simple Ping Dong girl.
When talking about working with Vanness and Hebe, the director praised the two greatly. He said, "The two of them are both children, and they are very into their work. Especially Hebe. In one scene she wore a pair of shoes that didn't fit her. She walked back and forth 40-50 times. She ran so much she got blisters but she didn't complain."

METRO MAGAZINE has come out with its annual "Best of the Best" Awards Issue. (Cover is Tessa Prieto)
F4 & JY are featured in a number of articles:
1. HEAVENLY BODIES (Best of the Best BODIES)
Intro: "More than just great physiques, these guys & gals exuded that something extra that made them magnets of attraction."
Article includes whole page, solo pics of the people who made the List, including:
DAO (Jerry Yan, Actor): the pic used was taken during
bench/ presscon of JY in his "love ko bench/" tee
2. WINNERS (Best of the Best PEOPLE) - text by Lourd de Vera
Intro: "Hats off to the people who made the (generally) good news in 2003"
Article includes whole page, solo pics of the people who made the List, including:
F4 (Jerry Yan, Vaness Wu, Ken Zu & Vic Zhou)
Leave it to sociologists to explain how a crew of lanky Taiwanese boys launched a thousand Oh Baby Babys reverberating all throughout the archipelago. Jerry Yan, Vaness Wu, Ken Zu & Vic Zhou proved why they were so popular in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, and even the Chinese mainland, where Meteor Garden is banned by the central government. Must be a growing dissatisfaction with Western cultural
hegemony. Or the tension-filled plot of Meteor Garden. Or probably just the cool haircuts. When Jerry Yan a.k.a Dao Ming Su (a.k.a the latest Bench endorser, worth 40 Million pesos) came to the Philippines in November, he almost had the status of a
state visitor, with an enthralled Palace reception & media devotion.
3. THE YEAR OF BREAKING UP (Best of the Best SHOWBIZ NEWS) - text by Cecille Matutina
Includes:
"Oh baby baby, my baby baby"
Now for the other phenomenal soap on TV - Meteor Garden. From Mari Mar, the country went crazy over Dao Ming Si, Hua Ze Lei, Xi Men, Mei Zhuo & Shan Cai. The series, about 4 cute, long-haired Taiwanese boys, premiered on the dead timeslot of 4pm on May 5. By May 6, it was rating close to 40%. When it was moved closer to early primetime, 5:30 pm, just before TV Patrol, it was rating close to 50%! Meteor Garden Rewind, on the other hand, aired before MTB on Saturdays & ASAP on Sundays, was rating on the
neighborhood of 45 & 48% - and those are replays!
All of a sudden, every kid wa singing Chinese songs, plastering his (or even his) walls with posters of F4. "The Event" - the concert which featured 2 of the F4, Vanness & Ken, and the duo ASOS - was sheer pandemonium. "Happy 50 TV" the concert, featuring
Jerry & Vic, set sales records, despite tickets at P10,000 (~US$ 200) and even P15,000 (~US$ 300). This created a bit of controversy; many frowned at such super-expensive tickets.
4. HUY, HUY, HUY, HUY, HUY, HUY ... (Best of the Best MUSIC) - text by Lourd de Vera
Article includes:
The year's most raucous show was not the NU 107 Rock Awards or any punk rock or trash metal shebang. It was the first F4 concert at the Ultra Football Station
last September. Scores were hurt after a horde of drenched & eager fans tore down the barricades & spilled into the front row, to the shock of the Binondo elite. And that was just half of F4, unquestionably Asia's most popular boy band, at a time when groups
like Boyzone & Westlife are almost contemplating retirement. The more popular Jerry Yan & Vic Zhou followed only months later, with Yan - better known to millions as MG heartthrob Dao Ming Si - being received by screaming mobs at the NAIA (airport) & Malacanang. For a large part of 2003, one of the most popular sons on the airwaves has been F4's Baby Baby (Cant Lose You), a song heard almost everywhere from noontime
shows to videoke bars to jeepneys. This was the year when we witnessed something bizarre: millions of Pinoys memorizing entire songs in Mandarin. But then there's the question of how long one can stand repeated exposure to a phrase like "Oh baby baby ..."
without developing homicidal feelings.
5. TIMELINE -
June - includes: Meteor Garden captures the imagination of the nation
November - includes: Meteor Garden's Jerry Yan launched as Bench's newest model

Celebrities living in presidential suites
F4 illuminates
F4 became popular because of "Meteor Garden." Not only are they popular in Taiwan and China, a "Meteor Rain" album makes all Southeast Asia fans go wild. Last year the four guys went to Indonesia to hold a concert. Their management company arranged a 5-star presidental suite for them. And for F4's safety they had very strict security.
F4 has never lived in a presidential suite before. After being in a commodious and extremely comfortable presidential suite, Vanness loves the jacuzzi the most; Ken loves the computer room the most; Jerry would put big and small gifts from fans on the table in the guest room; ZZ is loves the big bed in the presidential suite bedroom the most, "I only have to lie on the chuan2 [boat] (suppose to be chuang2 [bed]) and I'll fall asleep."

5566 TONY SUN DEFENDED F4
Inside Entertainment rolled out their big boy band: Energy and 5566.
During the time that F4 has been a disaster, that left the door open for Energy and 5566 and all together
they walked through the door" The Door of real Success!
5566 & Energy work hard and deserve the breakthrough. The F4 and their management directed their anger
and thinking that it was a conflict of interest for them to be compared to mirror image boys.
In response to accusations by Energy that F4 boys have lost its drive, 5566 group member, Tony Sun
said :"F4 are trying to find a balance, right projects and right timing, but it doesn't mean that they have
lost its drive. I, personally have looked up to F4 because I admire them for what they have earned and gained
in the industry, we still wish we can reach up to that level."
As the battle of the boybands intensified, the band found itself unable to proceed with their careers regardless
of what they hear and read.
Contrary to the rumor on what Kun Da has commented recently about F4 losing its magic touch and it's over
for them the business is ours together with Milk, both from Energy,
5566 Leader, Sun clarified the matter : "i don't know anything
about energy's comment but when people were throwing that big number on the table,
it was tempting to answer back, we rather not! But it hurts us when taiwan bands are being compared
and much worse when one says something
bad to another one that would create something to worry about. We cannot control fans from saying things that are
sometimes painful, we cannot stop media from writing about us, F4 or Energy, but all we ask is the risk, and
pay attention to the word "limit".
JJ, a well known artist in Taiwan also declared war on F4 and 5566, and even terrified to bring Energy boys back to
school. JJ laid the cards of truth saying 5566 is the real king in Asia especially in Hongkong, Singapore, Malaysia
and home-based Taiwan and that F4 was never a popular band if not for Meteor Garden.
Tony Sun quoted : "Thank you for the praises but I don't agree with what he has said, but its his opinion and everyone
deserves to have one. As what I said F4 created a name for themselves in the music and entertainment industry and
I will still support them 110% no matter what will happen whether they gone out for solos or re-group. F4 and
5566 for the knowledge of majority, are friends, sometimes we cannot control the comparison, its a healthy
competition, and with that, it's no problem, issues has just been blown out of proportion, everything has."
Going solos? So do you exactly believe that F4 has broken down and Jerry Yan is going solo?
"If one says it no matter how serious you are or not, if one is in a boyband everything he says gets
picked up on. If you'd ask me, he deserves to stay in the group.
I was also upset about the comments other people were saying about F4 and I don't think there was any
need for the things they were saying. Those were thoughtless and I even ask 5566 fans especially those who
have fan groups in the internet where they read news like this to stay away from this and to not comment anything
against F4 or any band because we, 5566, want to have clean and kind fans . It's really unfair that people
go on punishing one because of one comment."

Vanness and Mother Cries
When F4's Vanness just came to Taiwan from the US to live his dream of becoming a star, his mother gave him US$500 as a start. He had no job, to save money, he stayed at his friend's place, eating instant noodles. There were times when he couldn't take it anymore, so he rings his mum wanting to go home, but his mum said: "Son, tough it out, I believe you will make it!" They pair cried to each other over the phone.

Vanness Wu Strikes Again - Worry No More for F4, 3/16
Worried about the future of F4?
Don't be. Even if Justified turns Vanness Wu might turn into a solo
superstar,
we have a feeling that the group won't be officially disbanding any
time soon.
Wu spoke about some of the issues that have been weighing on his
fans' minds:
On the fact that a lot of people are concerned about F4's future...
"I don't really understand [that]. If they're curious about what
we're going to do,
then I understand. [But] there's always going to be a group."
On other on-again, off-again groups, that F4 want to compare
themselves to...
"I don't see us as anything, like any other group. We all are
different!
I'm sorry - as far as I'm concerned, we're making our own rules.
That's what we've always done. We never tried to be like this and
like that.
We always just wanted to be us, and that's what we're doing."
On how the other members of F4 feel about him "might-be embarking on
a solo career"...
"Everybody is very supportive. As much as everyone wants to
participate, they're going to.
It's going to be cool.Nothing is final yet"
On mistakes Wu made before taking control of their career...
"There were just things that we were like, well, we don't know how to
do this, so we can't do it.
In every aspect. We depended on producers to come in and tell us how
to sound
because we weren't exactly sure what we were doing. But then it got
to the point
where we learned more, and you sit in the studio and you're a sponge.
You soak up everything, and you learn more and learn more, and you're
like,
'I can do this.' And then you find out that what's been inside of
you -
Everything in life is a journey, and for me personally, every step
that
I've taken has led me to the music I do these days. So I don't think
I'd
give up anything. I don't think I'd change anything. It's cool, man.
It's a cool place to be."
On Vanness's next album... Is your new album going to sound like Body
Will Sing? Is it going to be more R&B?
"It could be whatever we want it to be. However we go into the
studio,
and whatever we're vibing - We could if we wanted to, and that's the
beauty of having
so many heads that have so many different influences, you know?
You go in and make the music that you want to make that feels good to
you,
and hopefully people like it. I don't think there's any other way to
be an artist."

About AGB
The world-wide range of the AGB Group made it possible to introduce a uniform telemetric research standard in its member countries. (including the Philippines)
http://www.agb.com Disclaimer:
The tables are subject to various analysis and interpretations.
Highlights of the extracted data:
1. Periods covered: 2003 (full year) and 2004 (to-date)
2. Target members: Individual (as against household)
3. AMR% - Average Meter Rating
4. CNT - # of times the program was shown
5. Interesting Highlights:
2003 - a banner year for F4 in the Philippines.
Remains unprecedented!
2004 - korean telenovelas get a better viewership share (to date)
6. How the Asian Idols Fared
F4 Rules in Top 10 (2003) and it's latest MG2 Rewind (2004) run still have a satisfactory turnout.
5566 - MTV Valentine and West Side Story - both have a low 5.9% turnout
Competition: F4 (19%) and Ghost Fighter (10.8%) respectively
Barbie Hsu's latest, Eternity, got a measly 5.6% on the scale. Very unsatisfactory as it's timeslot is near/almost
in the primetime category (more traffic expected).

THE POP BOYBANDS ARE ALRIGHT
By Xtian Ji Huang
CN TV, China
March 17, 2004
IS it time to wave bye, bye, bye to teen pop? Critics seem to think so.
But they were sounding the death knell for teen ear candy back in January,
after Vic Chou's album failed to sell high-expected figures.
Even as boy band 5566 releases "Second album" - one of the year's most
in-demand discs - music critics are predicting the death of bubble-gum pop.
FTV declared in a headline on Friday, "Boy bands starting to feel some backlash."
" 'Pop' Goes the Teen Boom?" asked Entertainment U in February, after Chou released the single
"Ji De Wo Ai Ni." The article went on to say the
"music industry is anticipating a downturn because it believes teens are burned out on the sound."
And Asia News Service recently reported, "Teen pop may be petering out."
It's more a matter of taste than truth. Sure, F4 not the Beatles or even the Spinners, but
don't tell that to 14-year olds, who still cause a traffic jam in Taichung when any of
their pop idols are on.
Hey, critics never liked teen pop to begin with. And teen pop idols like F4 and 5566 don't like
critics as well, to begin with.
And, if teen pop is a fading fad, store owners don't know it. They've ordered million copies of
ZZ's new album, the same number they ordered for the group 5566 mega hit "Second Album."
But if *ZZ's and soon-to-release album Ken and Vanness's new effort fail to match or
exceed their first album sales (group or solo) - the disc will be deemed a failure.
And critics will start saying it's over for the pop-culture phenom.
But that's wishful thinking.
Even dumber are those - like Apple Daily - who suggest Yen's very adult problems of
immaturity and unprofessionalism signal the end of the teen musical trend.
If booze and the blues could end a musical trend, rock 'n' roll would have died
long before Elvis did and we'd all be doing the waltz.
F4 will always remain in the history of Music, Entertainment and Asia. The hell with the critics.
If the critics say Vic's album expect to sale 2M, and he only sold 1.5M, does that mean his
album is a failure? I don't think so...

He's Going To Be Huge... Not only the Muscles!
Vanness Wu is already cross - and we haven't even asked him questions yet.
"There's a lot of acts out there who don't have a clue what they're about," he says grumpily, before adding: "They're just out there to make a quick buck."
Now we don't mean to be rude or anything, but to look at other artists we won't mention
the names, perhaps we could be mistaken for thinking Wu is the one who doesn't have a clue -
just look at that hair! The pop hunk facial furniture! The way he bounces along to the menacing hip hop on the stereo looking more like Justin T.... And yet it seems that everyone is talking about Vanness Wu not from the former F4, but one who performed hottie with Machi in the
recently concluded MTV Asia Awards in Singapore... So what is going on? Well, get this. Stateside feature Vanness has more chances to make bigger than anyone else in F4.
So could it be that Vanness is, lah, actually quite better then?

Jumpy, goofy Vanness
DIRECTLINE By Boy Abunda
The Philippine Star 03/19/2004
If you don’t know F4 sensation Vanness Wu by now, then you must be living in a cave for the past six months or so.
Ever since Vanness Wu and his F4 buddies Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, and Ken Zhu made their Philippine TV debut on Meteor Garden, the entire nation has been gripped by chinovela-mania, fanatic mass hysteria that is reminiscent of the Beatlemania we witnessed in the ‘60s. Come to think of it, they’ve also been dubbed as an Asian Fab Four of sorts. These Taiwanese pop idols, however, seem determined to make their own distinct mark in the entertainment industry. The most gung-ho of the Gang of Four is Vanness Wu, who charmed all of Manila when he (and Ken) visited late last year for the smash concert The Event.
Indeed, Vanness consistently wins points among Pinoys because he’s the only one who speaks English fluently (having been raised in the US) and seems the most glib and gregarious of the four. He once confided to a Filipina interviewer that he had lots of Filipino friends when he was in high school and that he has kept in touch with most of them. When he told them that he was visiting Manila for a concert, his Pinoy pals were stunned. "It’s funny," he relates, "but they told me that they haven’t been to the Philippines in 19 years, while I am going there to perform!"
He also stands head and shoulders above the other F4 members because he not only possesses the silkiest tresses, but because he is also the most gifted when it comes singing and dancing. If Jerry is the Bad Boy F4, Vic is the Quiet F4, and Ken is the Most Unintimidating F4, Vanness takes home the prize as the Most Talented F4. And his F4 gangmates wholeheartedly agree.
"I’m his no. I fan," Jerry himself concedes. In fact, when Vanness launched his solo CD, Jerry dropped by, lined up with the fans, and got an autograph from his idol. "He is my singing and dancing instructor," Jerry attests. "I think he is the most well-rounded one among the four of us." When they’re already old and gray, Jerry opines, Vanness will still be around, "as the international king of the dance stage." "I admire Vanness’s courage and determination," Vic asserts. "He really prepared himself for all this. His singing is the best among the four of us. and his dancing is also tops. Moreover, he is the least likely to be moody when working."
Ken concurs and singles out Vanness’s positive work ethic as his friend’s most endearing attribute. "He is very generous. His knowledge about music is very broad. His easy-going attitude allows other people to get close to him. He is probably the most normal among us four!"
He’s also the funniest, it seems. And the most mischievous. People who know the real Vanness say that he’s the eternal child at heart. He once pulled a prank on their clueless manager, putting sugar in his shoes. The problem was, it was unbearably hot day. So by the end of the shoot, the sugar in the shoes melted, leaving the poor manager with a sweet yet sticky mess.
He also admits being a bit hyper. "I’m really an active, sporty type of person," he pipes up. "I love running around. Jumping around. Just goofing off." That’s why he was offered an action flick, Star Runner, for his big-screen debut, he didn’t have to think twice about it. "That was awesome," he recalls. "I felt so fortunate because everyone involved in the project poured 100 percent into it. All their time and energy."
For his first big movie (and all his hard work), he was nominated Best New Actor at the HKFA Awards in Hong Kong. Colleagues also claim he is the most finicky about his looks. That he is Mr. Vain. That much was confirmed by Barbie Hsu or San Cai of Meteor Garden fame. "We often talk about facial masks and stuff like that!"
In fact, he was given the nickname Barbie King Kong, because he exudes both macho and prissy traits. Because he constantly struggles with his Chinese, he oftentimes mixed up his lines of dialogue on Meteor Garden 1 and 2. Once, instead of saying "Hello everyone!", he absent-mindedly cracked "Hello big chickens!" As such, he is almost always the recipient of gentle ribbings from his F4 cronies.
Jerry once joked that in "Vanness’s dictionary, there’s no such word as modesty." Quick on the drew, Vanness wittily retorted: "But I only borrowed the dictionary from you!"
Because such good-natured camaraderie is daily fare for the F4 guys, rumors of jealousy and in-fighting confound and exasperate Vanness so. "Everyone is happy for each other," he exclaims. "We’re really excited for each other’s solo projects."
He rules that media seem to prefer to focus on nasty rumors. "People say we’re not friends, that we don’t get along," he explains. "Why would they all show up at the premiere of my movie in Taiwan?" The press made a big deal out of it, he bristles, "We’re friends! What’s wrong with you? We don’t envy each other at all. We’re all very happy for each other’s success!"
That’s the real Vanness, in a nutshell. Slick, straight-shooting, and sharp. Pinoys will again get the chance to know the real Vanness Wu when he stages a major concert tour in the Philippines this March. He is set to headline Crazy In Love with Vanness, with guests Pops Fernandez, Francis M, Jay-R and the Hotlegs. Also guesting on March 27 and 29 are Mark Herras and Yasmien Kurdi, and Star In A Million champion Erik Santos. Direction is by Rowell Santiago. It will go onstage at the Expo Filipino in Clark Field Pampanga (March 26), at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City (March 27), and at Abellana Sports Complex in Cebu City (March 29), with the Quezon City Performing Arts Foundation, Inc. as beneficiary.
For ticket inquiries, call Ticketworld at 891-9999, the Expo Filipino Office (843-6589), and Mindworks Consulting Co. (255-8388, 253-0891).

3/18 Vann Interview on MTV Jams
Vann Interview on MTV Jams
Watz up everybody! Welcome to MTV Jam, the best hip-hop and R&B show. Well, today what I am going to do is to be playing some really cool videos and answer some questions about myself that u guys might have. Um¡K see¡K some questions that I hear a lot are¡K ¡§What brand of hip-hop and R&B do u like?¡¨ Basically¡K um¡K anything that will keep my heart pumping, anything that will keep my feet moving, um¡K anything that will juz get me to move on the dance floor. Um¡K u know¡K I don¡¦t have a specific type of who I like or what type of music I like because I like them all. I like from hip-hop to R&B to classical to jazz to rock to heavy metal to everything. So, any type of music that will really start making me groove my head to, that is basically the type of music I like. Um¡K but if u wanna get more specific¡K umm¡K Neptunes have some really good beats, Timberlake have some really good beats as well. So those are juz a few.
And the next question is ¡§Do I have any plans to release a 2nd album?¡¨ And as of because, u know that I really do enjoy music, I love being on stage. So, I am right now, as we speak, in the recording studio trying to come up with some more music for the 2nd album which I am putting a lot more effort into this time because I am pretty much executive producing the album this time. So hopefully again I can bring u guys more and new different stuff and more different flavours.
So, let¡¦s take a break and b4 we go, here¡¦s a music video
(MTVS being shown¡K)
Welcome back to MTV Jams, where we play the hottest hip-hop videos & hottest R&B tracks. Um¡K today, what we gonna do is to play some good videos & answer some questions. So, some questions that I hear again are ¡§Who are my hip-hop idols from the US?¡¨ And let¡¦s see¡K I have a lot of people tat I admire, um¡K from their work, their dedication to their art and juz their attitude & perspective on lives. Umm¡K even though right noe, u know wat I probably get beat down by this one later. But I still really do enjoy Michael Jackson in his earlier years, his performance on stage is amazing, he¡¦s untouchable at that. I¡¦ll give him that even though he has some heavy things going on for him right now. But, u know, we¡¦ll see, welll see what happens later. Some other people are Dr Dre & Jay-Z, they made an empire out of nothing, u know & that¡¦s what really is very inspirational for me. It¡¦s juz to be able to take care of people around u & build an empire out of nothing. Um¡K and ya, so the next question is ¡§How do u feel about making the track ¡¥Crazy in Love¡¦ with Beyonce?¡¨ It was very fun in some sense and quickly, as some put it. Becoz I juz got into the recording studio, lay down the vocals and left. They sent me the master tracks, never got to meet her but um¡K u know, it was cool. To be able to say, I was on a Beyonce track, u know, it was pretty nice. So, it was fun.
Alrite, so let¡¦s bring u another video & after the commercial break, we¡¦ll be right back.
(MTV & commercials)
Welcome back to MTV Jams, I¡¦m Vanness, your host for today. And I¡¦m gonna tell ya more abt myself. As to what my plans are in the future today. Um¡K as of right now, like I said, I¡¦m in the recording studio to lay down some new tracks for my 2nd album, which is going to be pretty much co-produced my me & some of my good friends, Jay Chong and maybe working with Machi as a whole. Um¡K so I¡¦m pretty excited abt it. I can¡¦t wait to bring it to show it to u guys. U know, that¡¦s pretty much what I¡¦m doing right now. Juz giving my energy and focusing all my time on that. And later on, hopefully I can do another movie and see u guys on the big screen again. But, that¡¦s it for me right now, u know¡K I¡¦m tired talking abt myself. I¡¦ll show u guys a little more about myself in this movie, no I¡¦m sorry, not movie, in this music video ¡¥Looking for Juliet¡¦. Hope u guys like it. See u guys in a minute.
(MTVS being shown¡K)
You are tuning in to MTV Jams, alrite, so now back to the show & more abt me, hope I¡¦m not boring u guys. Anyway, um¡K some more questions that I have been asked is ¡§How do u view the current state of Asian hip-hop and how does it differentiate from the West? ¡¨ Well. As u all know, good fren of mine, Machi (holds up Machi necklace) Alright, what they are trying to do is to really bring in a real, truer formula and truer sense of hip hop from the West to Asia right now, try to bring in more realistic beats of u know, the western music. And as of right now, how does it differentiate? I juz think um¡K well, I think Machi¡¦s album is doing a very good job to represent the hip-hop sense of hip-hop scene for America in Taiwan or in Asia in that sense. The only thing that is different about it as I can tell, is probably juz the language, right now. So yeah, that's my point of view on that.
Alright, so this is the end of the show. Gonna bring ya more & very good videos soon & hope to see u guys again. Alright, so take care out there. MTV!

3/18 Vanness Wu has a tough critic..., NewsRoom Taipei
Vanness Wu has a tough critic in F4 group mate Ken Zhu, who hopes to
catch Vannes's concert tour. ''We support everybody, but we let them
know when something's bad,'' Zhu says. This is not confirmed yet, as Ken is
somehow busy with his own thing.
The F4 foursome isn't due to regroup in the recording studio until September,
after a year in which most band members did the Me Thing. Wu and Zhou
both are having solo albums, next in line is the other 2.
Zhou, got some pretty good reviews for his Remember I love You album, so he
says he's up for the job! In the business,''You have to have a little fun,'' he says.
Wu says his off from touring a lot has been a chance to reconnect
with his family.
On Personal life :
But the idea seems to be gaining a foothold. ''Hopefully, '' he says.

Vanness Wu Says Next Album Will Sound 'Different'
March 17, 2004
When a music critic suggested to F4 recently that the world in which his
career was spawned is a distant memory, the singer immediately got defensive.
"Teen pop will never be dead," he said. "The death of teen pop and its venue as it was,
sure, but ... as long as there's teens and as long as we have culture with popular music
in it, teen pop will never die, as far as I'm concerned. I just think it takes on a
different head."
So when he starts with his 2nd solo album, expect him to take on different
heads, and not in a cool, special effects sort of way, as he's done in the past.
"I know that it would have to be something a little new,
creative and different," he said. "And so I can't make any promises on what
it's going to sound like, or if i even feel confident enough to put it out. I mean,
I'm sure I will."

(255-8388, 253-0891).

the grand opening of Vivid Salon will commence on 3/21, Sunday @ noon time; upper level to the plaza is where the store is located... anyone who can make it try to get there early, b/c it's gonna be narrow n packed there for viewing pleasure during the 'ribbon cutting' ceremony.
again, u have to be a member to Vivid services in order to go in the clinic n take pix or get autographs from Vanness, that day... n well, my conspired thought is since Ken should still be in CA this wk, he may go down to LA from SF to visit Vanness n help w/the grand opening.

Latest info from Vivid Salon
I just called the salon, and a woman receptionist gave me some useful info. She said we don't need to be a member or pay a membership fee in order to get Vanness' autograph or take his photos. Also, we should arrive early so it will be convenient for us to get to talk to him. If you hear from someone else that a membership fee is required for Vanness' autograph/pictures, don't believe that person. The receptionist said that the grand opening ceremony will be for Vanness' fans and Vivid's customers to join and celebrate. Everyone is welcome. Thank goodness, we don't have to pay for a membership fee!

To be continued...

Continuation
MTV!

Vanness Wu Says Next Album Will Sound 'Different'
March 17, 2004 When a music critic suggested to F4 recently that the world in which his
career was spawned is a distant memory, the singer immediately got defensive.

He's plan to go solo made Boyband breakaways for dust
and inspired a generation of future boyband breakaways.
True, Vanness Wu is the new king of pop asia for the minute,
how long will his reign last? That's the 100% question. One can
only guess until the next boyband disbands and one of the hacks is
savvily re-packed and re-marketed for mass teen and tween
consumption. But for now, Vanness has the points!

When Critics Meet King of Pop Asia
Posted Monday, 22 March 2004 at 12.09PM
The first single from Vanness's Wu's solo album Xun Zhao Zhu Li Ye
is a tensile come-on sung old falsetto.
At first, it sounds like his first stop will not be Dairy Queen.
But is he thinking what we're thinking?
When the chorus claims "Never Gonna Stop Never Ever Stop
Ain't Gonna Give You Up,"
if you've seen Wu dancing in the video,
you'll guess one of the latter two. At the end of the song,
Jian Hao is telling us to dance and the girl is gone.
The pace of the elements are perfect, creating an erotic daisy
chain that pulls us toward each new sound. When the next
thing arrives, you want it, bad. "Never Gonna Stop" doesn't
pull off so much as the feeling of dancing to a more danceable song
in front of the mirror.
A critically and commercially consensus—was "Yin Wei Tai Ai Ni,"
a complete 180 from "Xiang Xiang Shi Ge Ni"'s jackrabbit lust.
"Yin" is like puppy love, a CinemaScope ballad full of generous
detail and disjunctive leaps and Wu's second consecutive hit.
The song got an obvious boost from gossip columnists seeing it as
it only pays to say he got a marvelous acting in a video like this,
but less obvious was the response from music critic Ross:
"In the past year, critics found themselves in the faintly
embarrassing position of having to hail Wu's BWS as one of the
better records of the year." The embarrassment must be Ross',
as the critics didn't exhibit much.
The daily newspaper reviews were uniformly positive. But
Other Chinese has a track record of approaching pop music with
one hand holding its nose, so calling Vanness an embarrassment
is simply par for the course.
In fact, there is a historical trend for critics to discount
hugely popular artists who sell to kids, especially girls.
Sometimes, critics, borrowing a little fantasy back from the
kids, like to pretend that these artists don't really exist,
but truth to it, they do, Vanness does.

Vanness can't vote because he's a US citizen
On 20 Mar, Jerry flew to Thailand after casting his vote for Taiwan elections. Yesterday, he attended a Pepsi event in Bangkok which attracted over 3000 fans from all over the world. However, he was still worried abt the Taiwan elections. His friends have been sending him messages to keep him informed. He was shocked and nervous, kept saying "muz not be chaotic, gotta be peaceful & safe."
This year, only Jerry & Ken of F4 went to cast their votes. Zai was busy filming MARS and Vann is a US citizen and could not vote. But everyone was concerned abt the election results. Jerry contacted his friend in Taiwan on 20th evening, and when the elections results were out at nite, he was amazed indeed.
Yesterday, he flew back to Taiwan from HongKong, and read abt the various election news on the plane. He immediately called his family to report his safety once he reached Taipei. Manager, Zhi Xiang Li describes Jerry's feelings now as ""all he wishes is for Taiwan to be stable, dare not think of other things." For the next few days, Jerry gotta rush preparing for his solo album and recording album is his main priority at the moment.

1. PLS DO NOT POST TOO MANY PICTURES...If the set of pictures came from the same event or series...just choose 2-3 pics which you think are the best shots of Vsnness and just provide the links for the rest...too many pics in a page just make the page-loading slower..we are not having a contest on which F4 thread has the most number of posts or pictures....
also, pls do not post pictures with big file size...limit the file size to below 100kb pls...this just causes x-marked posts
2. ON SPAMS...i do not consider acknowledgements as spams...but if you really must say anything..dont just say "THANKS" or "OK"..say something relevent or maybe add a picture to your post...eventually i will have to erase the acknowledgements for thread clean-ups
