Others like Beyond also write their own lyrics - I love Beyond They're like the "Queen" (the english band) of Hong Kong.

I'm suprised that you didn't mention Lee Hom and David Tao along with Jay Chou. They are pretty much Taiwan's do-it-all-myself musicians.

Not sure but I think it's safe to say that GENERALLY speaking, more taiwan singers write their own lyrics than the "popular" hk singers lol

jay chou don't really write all his song lyrics...most or written by his good friend Vincent Fang whilst Jay composes the song

for HK singers, Justin writes some of the lyrics for his songs, most of the popular Taiwanese singers like Jay Chou, Wang Leehom, David Tao, F.I.R., Mayday..., for Japanese singers, Ayumi Hamasaki wrote some of her songs for Korean singers Kangta compose/writes/arrange his songs so does the other H.O.T. members, Teddy does some of the lyrics & music for 1TYM, Fly To The Sky (Brian wrote most of the rap lyrics), Shinhwa (Eric wrote most if not all of the rap lyrics; Minwoo, Hyesung & Dongwan sometimes write the lyrics as well)

He just composes the music for his songs. Lyrics aren't written by him. Can he even write chinese?

he doesn't write the lyrics for the chinese songs. but for the english songs, the lyrics are written by him.

I know Nicholas sometimes do. Well, he does composing mostly. I think Gigi Leung do too! The "tall girl" second version i believe.

Jay Chou writes his own lyrics for some of his songs. The rest are written by his main lyricist, Fang Wen Shan or other lyricists. Jay also composes the melody for ALL of his songs.

I also know that Taylor Swift writes her own lyrics. Her lyrics are simply amazing, they just blow me away. And they're meaningful and usually they tell a story. I love lyrics like that. She's seriously very talented.

As others have explained before me, Jay Chou writes only a few of his lyrics. Most of his are done by others... or by Vincent Fang. But it's not out of proportion-- the only (Mandarin) artists who write a LOT of their own lyrics... that I can think of... are probably Kenji Wu KeQun and AShin of Mayday. Both of them tend to have a really fun, playful style.

JJ Lin hardly EVER writes his own lyrics. I guess he's not that confident in his own Chinese-writing abilities (which is perfectly fine)... he does lyricize his own English songs, though.

FanFan Fan WeiQi sometimes lyricizes. She also sometimes writes <3
Wilber Pan WeiBo's done a number of lyrics and songs, too.
And there's Wang LeeHom and Jay Chou.
Da Mouth (the group) lyricizes, often collaboratively. F.I.R. does the same.

DBSK's JaeJoong,Yoochun and Junsu also wrote their own lyric

i think more Taiwanese or Taiwan-based (may be Singaporean, Malaysian, etc that do well in Taiwan market) singers write their own lyrics than other country's. In fact, many newly debuted singers usually have some or all songs written by themselves. They think it's really important that you're capable of producing your own music to go far in the industry.

e.g. Penny Lin, Tank, Gary Cao, David Tao, Leehom, F.I.R., Mayday, Evan Yo, etc etc etcccc

Most of the good songs From Jay isn't written by him. He only writes a few of his songs.

khalil fong writes his own songs too and his music is pretty good and not to mention LEEHOM WANG!!! totally talented guy

I probably wrote this a gazillion times already, but his self-composition "Has anyone told you" alone was downloaded more than all SHE's songs combined in 2008 as ringtones, beating out the most popular Jay Chou song by about tenfolds.

His songs have variety, and all but one has been self composed. In addition to the official songs released, he already has a bunch of other ready-composed songs that he sang on Super Boys and at various events.

Lu Hu is also a good composer. He writes songs for other people more than he sings, though...
for example, he wrote Wei Chen's "Lunatic's Wishes." He has his own recording stuff and everyone in his company goes to him to record music.

Actually, to the best of my knowledge, Yu Haoming is the only one who hasn't composed in Super Boys. Allen Su, Wang Zhengliang and Amulong has been composing for a long time. Wei Chen, Wang Yuexin, Zhang Yuan learned later. Ma Xueyang composed Top Combine's Cotton Candy.

Pong Nan and Charmaine Fong, both from HK, also write their own lyrics. Recently, Charmaine Fong and Ivana Wong haven't been writing their own lyrics.

i most artist i know who write their own music are Chinese like Leehom Wang, JJ Lin, Jay Chou and F.I.R. as for Japanese, i think Utada Hikaru has written some of her songs too.

U-know Yunho wrote the lyrics (rap part) in some songs like Rising Sun,Love by Love and
also composed the song of Spokesman along with a member from SuJu,Donghae.

There's Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, Hacken Lee, Alan Tam, Eason Chan, Beyond and....that's all I know by heart.

dbsk's changmin also wrote lyrics for the korean version of love in the ice, and evergreen
yunho and junsu also wrote lyrics for their solo songs checkmate and xiahtic respectively

Avril Lavigne writes most of her songs. Another would be Jesse McCartney. Ne-Yo. The Black Eyed Peas.
Mostly bands write their own lyrics + make musical arrangements which makes them respectable.

I know the Taiwanese people write their own like Jay Chou. I also know for Koreans, GD writes big bang's lyrics sometimes.

In the Asian region, LeeHom for one. Jay Chou, Jolin and SHE do write, but very rarely. There's also Blue J (newcomer), Da Mouth, FIR, By2, Kenji Wu. Oh, and Wilber Pan has been writing quite alot lately, which is worth noting.

For America, I haven't really been struck by anyone other than Avril and Taylor Swift. The latter is seriously talented. Her songs are awesome.

Jacky Xue Zhiqian, he also composes his own songs ( most of them)...in indie genre, Wang Xiakun writes and composes his songs.

Wang Xiaokun's not really indie, is he? He was signed with a pretty major label, and he was a competition singer.

Yeah that's the beginning, he signed with Universal after MY SHOW. But he is no longer with Universal and founded DAN, his own record label. I would say his style is a bit different now compared to the album he did when he was still with Universal.
His latest album is the first album that he produced under DAN label: 那些你们喜欢的不喜欢的我都喜欢的女孩
