Interview with Myolie

Unknowingly, Myolie has been in the industry for 9 years. She has already become one of TVB top fadans and entered into the Music Industry, releasing a solo EP. At the end of last year, she won a few awards in the Music Industry. For the exclusive interview with Yan Cheng Night Paper, she brought along her awards, filling uo the whole table. She expressed that the award that made her really happpy was winning silver in HK Radio Awards (i think? huh? ). Because this award proved that she really has the capability, unlike the award she won in TVB JSG.. which people may say that it was because she is "taken care of".

In the industry for 9 years, the time is neither short nor long. But among all the dramas that she acted in, Myolie felt that War Of in Laws was her own representing drama (a drama that represent her), instead of To Grow with love. As for the future, she hasn't think too deep about it, getting married is something that cannot be sure/rushed. And Bosco, in Myolie's mouth, is still "Good Friends" and "Onscreen Couple".

Hope to be a singer that really has the capability

In the music industry, Myolie is still a newcomer. But the minute she sings, it shocks everyone - her voice is very powerful! Actually, Myolie has always been learning how to sing. When she was 16, she even win in a singing competition. That time, she sang Sammi Cheng's song: 《爱的挽歌》.

(YC)YanCheng Night paper: Last year, many TVB artistes enter the music industry, for example, Bosco wong, Raymond , etc signed with big companies like EG, but she chose a small company like Neway Star, why?

(M) Myolie: This is the company's arrangement, as in the beginning, it was Neway Star who first approached me. Personally, i am quite satisfied with it. Although big companies sounds more branded, but small company will give me more area to progress, and respect my opinions.

YC: In the new EP, which is your favourite song?

M: like "Solo Travelling", because it has a pop rock feel. Many people feel that Myolie can only sing K song, but after hearing "Solo Travelling", they felt surprised.

YC: in the music industry, what is your aim/goal?

M: hope to be a singer that really has the capability. I will also work hard to practice dancing. Dancing has always been my weak area, joining 舞动奇迹 last year was a big challenge. I don't mind some sexy roles, but not intentionally revealing. Personally, i like fashion so i enjoy discussing with designer, make up artiste. But being an artiste, i have few opportunities in it.

YC: You like singing since young? won an award at 16?

M: Yes, i was in the church chior when i was young. I was in charge of the sap section and i spent a year to learn singing. THat competition was organised in England. I remembered that i sang Sammi Cheng's song. That time, we support faye wong, sammi cheng and Zhang Hui Mei songs, but i really like Zhang Hui Mei (A*Mei).Her voice is very powerful.

War of in laws is the drama that represent her

Many people is unaware that Myolie was a bio-chemistry student in HKTU. At the height of 1.72m, she joined Miss HK and won the runner up position. Hence, decided to stop schooling and entered into the entertainment industry, changing totally her destiny. The champion for that year was Sonijia Kwok. After 9 years, both of them have become TVB top fadans. Thinking about all her dramas, the most unforgetable drama to Myolie was "War of in laws"

YC: HKTU has high expectations on results?

M:My studies are quite good! My first ambition was actually to be a doctor, but it is too difficult to get that qualification. I like scientific subjects,always scoring the highest in Biology. Maybe because i'm more practical kind of person, those that like "1+1=2" kind of person, the worst part of my studies is composition.

YC: what were your feelings when you joined Ms HK?

M: totally is trial and error. My very good friend wanted to join but didn't want to go alone, so pulled me along. I never thought of being an artistes, but just felt that it was fun. Didn't know i will enter into the industry. In the beginning, i was quite hesitant but felt that i'm suitable for this, but i like to act.

YC: in the 9 years, you filmed many series, which drama impacted you the most?

M: War of in laws is like a representing drama. That was the first time that i received acceptance from all the audience. First time entering into the top 5 most favourite female character. WHen the drama was being filmed, all artistes, including Liza Jeh, Bosco Wong, etc were very absorbed into it. Although the lines for the fighting scenes were long, but till now, i can stil remember. Besides, "TITS" left a deep impression too because i felt that i didn't do good enough. That time was my first two years in the industry, didn't know how to act, but have to be the second leading role. Co worker was top actor, Francis Ng, so it was very stressful. Not only me, the rest of the newcomers who acted in the show were corrected by him.

YC; Why didn't you mention about To Grow with Love?

M: The focus of this show was on me putting on weight and losing it, there wasn't any expanding area for my character, i am not very satisfied.

YC; there are netizens teasing that when you laughed, it looked like a “囧” word and called you“胡囧囧”. Do all these affect you?

M: hehe.. i saw the posts on it. Being a public figure, have to listen to others opinions, and reflect on it. If it is not own's problem, then there is nothing that can be done about it, i can't control what others said about me.

Her future husband must have a sense of humour

The offscreen Myolie admits that she is a "boring" person. her rumours with Bosco have been on and on... deny and deny... there isn't nothing new about it. But she told the reporter that she hasn't met someone that she wants to marry.

YC: what are ur plans for 2009?

M: Just finish filming Chau Heung angers Tong Bak Fu. I am acting as Chau Heung, a totally different kind of Chau Hueng from the past, it is a comedy character, and there are many fighting scenes. In addition, I hope to release a new album this year.

YC: WIll you choose to admit openly about dating at a certain time?

M:I admitted in the past before. WHen i first entered into the industry, i openly admitted that i'm dating. But after that, we split. I feel that there isn't a need to admit again about such things. And presently, i am really not dating.In this kind of entertainment industry environment now, once you admit about such things, reporters will focus non stop on your relationship matters, and no one bothers about your work, i think it is not that good.

YC: Bosco and you are often being mentioned together, TVB has also introduced you two as onscreen couple, do you mind?

M: No. Audience enjoys seeing anyway, i dont mind. As long as it is not too obviously putting us together, i can accept.

YC: Your sister (used to work in TVB) resigned and is married, will you have the urge to do so too?

M: no, because unlike her, i havent met such a good guy yet,haha.. i am not someone who will consider and decide when i want to get married, give birth, currently, my career is the most important. My contract with TVB still has a long way to go.

YC: What are your criterias for your other half?

M: must be someone who has a sense of humour! I am more of a quiet person, or you can say "boring", i need someone who is of a different type to complement me. I am really a very boring person. if i am not working, i will stay at home, or shop or eat, no special hobbies.

Reporter's impression:

Actually, wasn't putting much hope on Myolie's singing capability but after watching her mini concert in Macau, i have a broken glasses kind of feel, She sings really well! Come across her a few times, and feel that she is becoming more and more confident. In the past, she used to talk with a tinge of sillyness and innocence, and fear but now, she has a "Ah Jeh" feel, confident in speaking. For this interview, she even prepared a few set of clothes to allow the photographer to take pictures and brought her awards along. This kind of serious attitude, don't know if it is influenced by Mother in law Liza Jeh. And, she is very thin now, i can't imagine how she put on weight for To Grow with love.

Last November, Myolie Wu released her debut album, Evolve. Although the results were pretty good and she also won quite a number of newcomer awards at various HK music award ceremonies, she said that filming dramas during the release of her album period made her feel pretty weary.

During the last weekend, Myolie arrived in Singapore to do promotions. When talking about her experience of releasing an album, she said, "Last November and December were the most taxing. Because in November, there were many jobs during the TVB Anniversary period. I also had to do album promotions, and film a drama, Chau Heung Angers Tong Bak Fu. In December, I even went to Macau to hold a mini-concert. So everyday was very busy. I didn't have time to take a decent meal or have adequate sleep. During mealtimes, I need to rehearse for my dance in the TVB Anniversary. As for sleep, I only had an hour."

A self-confessed workaholic, Myolie Wu pointed out that being a singer made her learn many things, "I've always liked singing. This time, from choosing songs, to designing the image, to promotions, all these were very good experiences for me. After all, acting is all about being someone else, while singing is started from myself."

But she also said that there was quite a lot of pressure, "I've been in this industry for 9 years, and left a deep impression of my acting image on everyone. I've never thought that everyone would welcome and accept me as a singer, so this gave me a lot of encouragement."

Since the release of the album, Myolie Wu has not asked about the sales figure, but she said, "The company must have felt that the sales are pretty good, so we're preparing for the next album now. If this album hasn't been selling well, I think the company would not be so silly to invest money into producing albums for me, haha!"

Acting As 'Martial Artist Chau Heung', She Was Being Complimented As Having Talent
Myolie Wu has just finished filming 'Chau Heung Angers Tong Bak Fu' with Moses Chan, Fala Chen and many others. She's acting as Chau Heung, who's adept in martial arts. Having to display martial arts skills in there, she said, "Before the filming started, I did take up some lessons, like the leg kicks etc. I'm quite fond of doing action scenes. Everyone complimented that I have talent and that I'm stylish/cool. I'm very happy."

As for whether she's worried that people will take Gong Li's portrayal of Chau Heung in Stephen Chow's movie to compare with hers, she laughed and said, "She's my idol, and is gorgeous. We can't be compared at all."

So far, there are sources that mention that the WOIL series, after going through the ancient and modern times, will be having the final installment on vampires. Myolie Wu said that she hasn't received confirmed news about this yet, "I've heard of it, but I'm not very sure. Of course I hope for another cooperation, because I feel happy during each cooperation. But have to see if the theme is suitable. I don't wish to film out bad things, and spoil our golden reputation, haha!"

Yesterday TVB thanked its sponsors by having a banquet at a Hotel. All the artists who have a contract with the company performed in the function “TVB sponsors support” to thank their support and hard work.

Due to the economy downturn TVB thanked its sponsors for supporting them by having a huge banquet with several tables for the sponsors. Apart from thanking them there was a huge party and there were a group of artists performing dance and music.

On the night a few artists couldn’t make it such as Tavia Yeung and Roger Kwok but the rest of the TVB artists along Amigo Chui and Wong Cho Lam were the MCs and organized for 12 artists to do several activities.

The “TVB sponsors support” function organised 18 programs. TVB’s manager Stephen Chan made a speech first, and then followed a Dragon Dance by Lee Sze kei, Susanna Kwan, Moses Chan and Bowie Lam. All the artists split into two groups and walked on stage one by one to give their New Year wishes. Other performances were all dance and music. Raymond Lam, Linda Chung, Bosco Wong, Kate Tsui, Charmaine Sheh and Kevin Cheng and so on performed songs for the audience and the ‘dance group” with Ron Ng, Ng Ka Lok, Shirley Yeung and so on performened a spectacular dance. Even the 2009 Miss Chinese International Christine Kuo was asked to perform on stage as well. All of the artists did all they could to thank their sponsors.

Today, Myolie was at City Shopping centre for her autograph session. Her parents joined the fans and raised signboards. Myolie said that she knew that they were going to be there to give her support but didn't expect that they will be so high profile. She felt a little awkward. Mentioned that rumoured boyfriend, Bosco was criticised to be dancing badly at the recent Miss Chinese International Competition. Myolie said: "There will always be space for improvement, i will ask him for advice on how to dance well and he can asked me how to sing better at the same time, helping each other out!"

Myolie Wu was promoting her debut album "Evolve" and has her name signing event in Tseung Kwan O Metro City yesterday.

This is her first time to have a name signing event. Myolie had a nice surprise because her parents were in the audience, holding up a banner. Myolie said "I knew they would come but did not realize they were so enthusiastic. I am so happy but a bit embarrassed too." Myolie said her father even goes to check her fan club in the internet to find out her schedule and activities, they know more about her programme than Myolie herself.

Myolie revealed that her record sale is not bad. SHe received 9 awards in the music award earlier and she is preparing for her next record. She is hoping to learn to dance and sing pop songs. Reporter asked if she would ask rumor boyfriend Bosco's help because Bosco started off as an expect of dancing "hip hop". Myolie laughed "He is very talented in dancing. Although Kevin Cheng and Myolie each have their 'fixed' rumored lover, both of them shared the same chemistry. In the new year, Kevin expressed that romances should not be too many or none at all, while Myolie said that it was good to have more of it, and didn't mind having a few more rumored boyfriends. Many years ago, Kevin already had the habit of buying peach blossoms for the new year, and that indeed made his romance luck bloom a lot. Last year, Myolie had a share in distributing red packets at work too. The estimated amount was around a 5-figure sum, and that wouldn't be affected by the economic crisis, "Hope to give out more and earn more. Most importantly, everyone's happy."

Today is the 3rd day of Chinese New Year, and Myolie Wu was present at the Sha Tin Jockey Club for a promotional event. Myolie revealed that she had met up with Bosco Wong and together with a whole group of other artistes to go pay Chinese New Year Visitation to TVB Producer, Tommy Leung Ka Shu. All the artistes also chipped in money to buy a 3T ticket for today's race where the prize money was over 10 million dollars.

Myolie said: "They sent me here to buy the 3T. If we win, then I will consider buying an apartment this year. I had picked out my favourites earlier, so I know which suburb I want to buy from." As for whether Myolie will buy an apartment with Bosco, or him paying for the apartment and letting her live in it, Myolie strongly expressed that she will use her own money to buy her new apartment.

SHE found herself in the so-called 'TVB retrenchment list', alongside fellow A-list artistes Kevin Cheng and Ron Ng.

Thankfully, Myolie Wu still has her job - so do her colleagues.

'I really don't know why the paparazzi likes to make me the target of news like this,' said the exasperated 29-year old.

'But in a way, I'm used to it already. The day the media stops fabricating news, our entertainment industry will probably die.

'That's how things work in Hong Kong.'

In an interview with Singapore journalists, Myolie said there are two ways to keep your popularity intact in Hong Kong.

Either be hardworking and take on many projects, ensuring your productivity is high, or gain visibility by making the news.

A self-confessed workaholic, she says she definitely prefers the former.

She also brushed aside rumours of her and actor Bosco Wong dating , preferring to talk about her work instead.

Not happy with just acting, the spunky Myolie has branched out to singing.

She released a Cantonese EP titled 'Evolve' in November last year to rave reviews and a slew of awards, including the 2008 Metro Hits Award Female Newcomer and Jade Solid Gold Recommended Newcomer Outstanding Award.

'Unlike acting, where it's very much about teamwork, singing is a personal experience. The joy derived from it is more instantaneous as well,' said Myolie.

'After nine years in TV, I get to be a newcomer all over again, which is a wonderful feeling.

'Hopefully, my singing career can be a long-term one.'

While she is best remembered for putting on more than 18kg in To Grow With Love (she won the 2007 Asian Television Awards' Best Comedy Performance by an Actress for her chubby role in that series), these days, Myolie is losing weight faster than she can react.

Not that she can help it.

'In December, I lost 2kg because I was so busy, I didn't even have time to eat!' she said.

'I was doing a mini-concert in Macau and also working on the TVB Anniversary show at the same time.'

I agree, the media is really very mean to Myolie and other artistes constantly targetting her as one on the retrenchment list. Myo is so hardworking and constantly putting herself to try new roles and even while pursuing her dreams to be a singer, she has not stopped filming series day and night to make sure she is doing her job well. I do marvel at her determination, focus and passion... to be an actress and a singer at the same time.

I hope they will stop badgering her with such news. unfortunately this is HK media and only bad news/ interesting headlines sell papers.

Four popular TVB stars, Nancy Sit, Myolie Wu, Kenneth Ma and Fala Chen, were earlier invited to attend the Chinese New Year promotional event by Singapore's paid cable television channel, Starhub. They specially came to wish an early Chinese New Year to the local audience, and at the same time, promote TVB dramas. Other than showcasing their singing abilities, they even played games with the fans and gave out gifts, bringing the Chinese New Year happiness atmosphere to Singapore.
The foursome's recent dramas were very popular in Singapore. Drama Fans who knew about the promotions were at the event early, and caused a big crowd at the venue.
