In real life, the two ‘old friends’ Da S and Xiao Zhu each have their own partners, but they play lovers in the drama, Corner With Love. In the initial stages of filming, there were worries that there would not be sparks between them, but unexpectedly, their kissing scenes made on-lookers weak-in-the-knees. The pair of seemingly mismatched lovers surprisingly created a romantic story.
Corner With Love is being aired during the Spring Festival and Valentines Day period, showing the heavy expectation and faith in the series, even though the leading actor and actress are ‘extremely good friends’ Da S and Xiao Zhu. Because the playful and funny image they portrayed while hosting the variety show together, many people already find it difficult to accept them playing lovers, how were kissing scenes going to be filmed?
Xiao Zhu honestly said, “The first time I filmed a kissing scene with Da S, I was really not used to it, but later it was slightly more natural.” He can easily cover up embarrassment with laughter while hosting variety shows, but when acting out emotional scenes, feelings have to be expressed openly in front of the camera and cannot be disguised. Luckily, Da S is familiar with emotional scenes and it was her professional performance in the end which successfully helped to bring Xiao Zhu into character.
“The secret is to be more serious than him and my expressions have to be extremely steady. This way, the other party won’t laugh or feel embarrassed but instead will have no choice but to be serious too,” Da S said proudly. Actually Da S has always wanted to act together with Xiao Zhu as she felt it would be interesting, and she was curious how acting with such a close friend would be like. After this ‘experiment’, Da S feels that being able to bring the other person into character was more satisfying that just being able to act.
Da S also met with difficulties while filming. The most difficult thing for Da S was not cooking or having to act as a rich girl who fell from grace, but to protect her skin from the sun. She said helplessly, “The filming took place in summer and there were many outdoor scenes, an umbrella was not enough protection and I needed to use a large amount of sunscreen; but I had to act as a rich girl with long hair, before filming I had to curl it, after filming it was so hot I kept sweating and my whole body was wet causing the sunscreen to stick onto my body. Because this happened several times, I could not wash it off at home.”
As a man, Xiao Zhu did not have sunscreen problems, but the most tortuous thing to him was to cycle. Ignoring people around him (during the interview) expressing their disbelief, he seriously said, “This is the most that I have cycled in my life, I had to cycle almost everyday, I think…this is the biggest breakthrough ever since I started filmed dramas.”
Seeing everyone speechless, Xiao Zhu then told another cold joke, “Ever since I started filming, my driving has become increasingly worse, at first I had to drive, then in The Outsiders I had to ride a motorcycle, in Corner With Love it changed to cycling, next time I think I will need to skateboard, haha.” After listening to Xiao Zhu’s cold joke, everyone still could not laugh.

Xiao Zhu gets red eyes easily so it is important that he carries a bottle of eye drops with him.
