Aw, it looks so adorable! Penguins have really been a big hit since the March of the Penguins. I've been a sucker for these cute, funny animation films ever since Finding Nemo. Can't wait for it to come out.

In the great nation of Emperor Penguins, deep in Antarctica, you’re nobody unless you can sing--which is unfortunate for Mumble, who is the worst singer in the world. He is born dancing to his own tune--tap dancing. Though Mumble’s mom, Norma Jean, thinks this little habit is cute, his dad, Memphis, says it “just ain’t penguin.” Besides, they both know that, without a Heartsong, Mumble may never find true love. As fate would have it, his one friend, Gloria, happens to be the best singer around. Mumble and Gloria have a connection from the moment they hatch, but she struggles with his strange “hippity- hoppity” ways. Mumble is just too different--especially for Noah the Elder, the stern leader of Emperor Land, who ultimately casts him out of the community. Away from home for the first time, Mumble meets a posse of decidedly un-Emperor-like penguins--the Adelie Amigos. Led by Ramon, the Adelies instantly embrace Mumble’s cool dance moves and invite him to party with them. In Adelie Land, Mumble seeks the counsel of Lovelace the Guru, a crazy-feathered Rockhopper penguin who will answer any of life’s questions for the price of a pebble. Together with Lovelace and the Amigos, Mumble sets out across vast landscapes and, after some epic encounters, proves that by being true to yourself, you can make all the difference in the world.

'Happy Feet' Dances to Top of Box Office
Sunday November 19 1:44 PM ET

James Bond has met his match not a fellow spy but a tap-dancing penguin. The Warner Bros. animated penguin romp "Happy Feet" debuted with $42.3 million, grabbing an edge for the weekend's No. 1 slot over Sony's Bond adventure "casin0 Royale," which opened with $40.6 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The two films were close enough that their rankings could change when final numbers are released Monday.

"'Happy Feet' is just ahead by a flipper," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations. "It's unusual to have two movies this close, battling for that No. 1 position."

Dan Fellman, head of distribution for Warner, said "Happy Feet" was solidly ahead and that the rankings would not flip-flop on Monday.

"It's not going to happen," Fellman said. "It's a clear victory here."

"casin0 Royale" took an early lead over "Happy Feet" on opening day because of strong adult audiences Friday night. "Happy Feet" dominated the rest of the weekend, drawing big crowds on Saturday and Sunday when family films do their best business.

The box-office leader the last two weekends, "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," slipped to third with $14.35 million, lifting its total to $90.5 million.

With the rarity of two movies in the $40 million range, Hollywood had a robust weekend, the top 12 movies taking in $133.6 million. Still, that could not measure up to the same weekend a year ago, when the $102.3 million debut of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" paced the top 12 to a $171.9 million total.

"Happy Feet" features the voices of Elijah Wood, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and Robin Williams in the story of an penguin who cannot carry a tune like his brethren but can tap-dance up a storm.

"casin0 Royale," introducing Daniel Craig as British super-spy Bond, fell right between the debuts of the previous two 007 flicks, which had been No. 1 and 2 among the franchise's openings.

The last Bond movie, Pierce Brosnan's "Die Another Day," holds the franchise record with $47.1 million in November 2002. Brosnan's 1999 Bond adventure "The World Is Not Enough" premiered with $35.5 million in November 1999.

"I think a $40 million-plus start for a new series of Bonds with Daniel Craig is a great beginning," said Jeff Blake, Sony vice chairman. "casin0 Royale" also brought in $42.2 million in Great Britain, Russia and 25 other countries where it opened this weekend, Blake said.

In narrower release, two other new movies bombed, Universal's jailhouse comedy "Let's Go to Prison" taking in $2.1 million and Fox Searchlight's junk-food chronicle "Fast Food Nation" grossing $390,000.

Christopher Guest's Hollywood spoof "For Your Consideration" debuted strongly in limited release with $394,000 at 23 theaters. The film released by Warner Independent features a huge ensemble including director Guest, co-writer Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara in a comedy about Academy Awards fever among the cast of a small Hollywood drama.

Emilio Estevez's Robert Kennedy saga "Bobby" opened well with $67,000 in just two theaters. From the Weinstein Co. and MGM, "Bobby" features an all-star cast including Sharon Stone, Demi Moore, Anthony Hopkins and Lindsay Lohan in the story of people gathered at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles the night Kennedy was assassinated there in 1968.

"Bobby" and "For Your Consideration" expand to nationwide release this week.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. Final figures will be released Monday.

1. "Happy Feet," $42.3 million.

2. "casin0 Royale," $40.6 million.

3. "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," $14.35 million.

4. "The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause," $8.2 million.

5. "Flushed Away," $6.8 million.

6. "Stranger Than Fiction," $6.6 million.

7. "Babel," $2.9 million.

8. "Saw III," $2.8 million.

9. "The Departed," $2.6 million.

10. "The Queen," $2.3 million.

Penguins Ice Bond by Bridget Byrne
Mon Nov 20, 12:23 PM ET

Los Angeles (E! Online) - Goldfinger, Blofeld, Dr. No and Jaws—a bunch of pansies compared to Mumble.

Yes, after four decades of ridding the world of megalomaniacs and their henchmen, James Bond finally met his match in a tap-happy penguin.

In a tight race for the weekend box-office crown, Happy Feet danced in with $41.5 million to outgun casin0 Royale. The first outing for new spy guy Daniel Craig finished with $40.8 million, per final studio figures Monday.

"It was always going to be a close one to call," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of the ticket-tallying Exhibitor Relations. "Both films, though very different, had very strong audience awareness and interest,…both were very well reviewed,...both studios did everything right with the marketing and both were great projects."

Dergarabedian says the two movies were in a close battle all weekend. The 007 film got off to a fast start and had the edge on Friday, but with families flocking to multiplexes over the weekend, Mumble won by a beak.

Warner Bros.' PG-rated Happy Feet features the voice of Elijah Wood as Mumble, a woolly little Emperor penguin who can't sing like the rest of his pals in the colony but discovers he can make like Fred Astaire (or Emmitt Smith) on the dancefloor. Directed by George Miller (of Babe fame), the CGI 'toon iced an $10,918 per screen average at 3,804 locations.

casin0 Royale, officially the 21st movie in the franchise, turned to Ian Fleming's first 007 novel and a new leading man to reinvigorate the series. The PG-13 Sony release, in which we learn how Bond earned his license to kill, registered a slightly higher average ($11,891) at slightly fewer sites (3,413). Directed by Martin Campbell, the film features Eva Green as the chief beauty and Mads Mikkelsen as the chief baddie and returns Judi Dench as Bond boss M.

The new Bond finish behind the last installment, the Pierce Brosnan-powered Die Another Day, which opened in November 2002 with a franchise record $47 million on its way to $106.9 million domestically.

Both Happy Feet and casin0 Royale are expected to hold up through the Thanksgiving weekend.

Meanwhile, Borat continued to make big success in America. The mockumentary slipped to third place, dropping just 48 percent from last weekend's top slot to pocket $14.6 million. The film has totaled $90.5 million and is on track to surpass the $100 million mark in the next few days, because, as a studio rep says, "Everyone wants to see what the hoopla is about."

Also in its third week The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause dropped 51 percent from second to fourth place with $8.3 million, bringing the G-rated Disney sequel gross to $51.7 million.

Flushed Away, another film in its third go-round, continued to underachieve for DreamWorks and Paramount. The British-produced rodent 'toon fell 60 percent from third to sixth place with $6.6 million over the weekend. Its total stands at $48.6 million; last week, DreamWorks Animation stock took a hit when the studio announced it was going to lose major money on the film.

Freestyle Releasing earned a collective $2.3 million from 8 Films to Die For–Horrorfest, enough to rank 10th for the weekend (with a $4,735 average at 488 sites), just ahead of Bob Odenkirk's deadpan lock-up comedy Let's Go to Prison. The latter, an R-rated Universal release starring Dax Shepard, Will Arnett and Dylan Baker, locked up $2.1 million, incarcerating a mere $1,410 per screen at 1,495 sites.

New in limited release, Bobby was the clear winner, averaging $34,520 at two sites for a total of $69,039. Directed by Emilio Estevez, the R-rated MGM release explores the day of Robert F. Kennedy's assassination at Los Angeles' Ambassador Hotel from several fictional characters, played by an all-star cast that includes Elijah Wood, Laurence Fishburne, Lindsay Lohan, Anthony Hopkins, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Sharon Stone, Heather Graham, William H. Macy and Estevez's dad, Martin Sheen.

Doing only slim business was Fast Food Nation, Richard Linklater's adaptation of Eric Schlosser's exposé of chain restaurants and their suppliers. The R-rated Fox Searchlight release, with a cast that includes Greg Kinnear, Wilmer Valderrama and Bobby Cannavale and cameos from the likes of Bruce Willis, didn't make much of a happy meal for its distributor, munching up only $1,280 per screen at 321 locations for a value menu-worthy $372,012.

Despite the good news for Mumble and 007, the overall gross was down 20 percent from last weekend and 22 percent down over this time last year, when Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire conjured up a whopping $102.3 million.

Here's a rundown of the top-grossing weekend films, based on studio tallies compiled by Exhibitor Relations:

1. Happy Feet, $41.5 million

2. casin0 Royale, $40.8 million

3. Borat, $14.6 million

4. The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, $8.3 million

5. Stranger Than Fiction, $6.61 million

6. Flushed Away, $6.6 million

7. Babel, $2.92 million

8. Saw III, $2.9 million

9. The Departed, $2.6 million

10. 8 Films to Die For—Horrorfest, $2.3 million

went to see this today. it wasn't too bad. the baby penguins were way cute! there were some really funny parts, too.

OMG! I saw it yesterday. It was the most adorable movie I have ever seen in my life! Penguins...I want one.

Ok, the story was alright. Not the best ever but for a penguin film, it was really good. I mean, thinking of a story to suit penguins can be a bit hard, but they accomplished it.

I do recommend people to see it. It's just too cute!

'Happy Feet' Dances Atop Box Office
Sunday November 26 4:30 PM ET

A dancing penguin was king of the Thanksgiving birds among movie-goers. The animated penguin romp "Happy Feet" remained the No. 1 movie with $37.9 million in ticket sales from Friday to Sunday, while the James Bond adventure "Casino Royale" stayed in second place with $31 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Over the Wednesday-to-Sunday holiday period, "Happy Feet," from Warner Bros., took in $51.5 million while Sony's "Casino Royale" did $45.1 million.

Disney's thriller "Deja Vu," starring Denzel Washington as a police officer bouncing back in time to try to prevent a deadly ferry explosion, led new movies with $20.8 million for the weekend and $29 million since opening Wednesday.

The 20th Century Fox comedy "Deck the Halls," with Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito as neighbors feuding over excessive Christmas lights, debuted at No. 4 with a $12 million weekend and $16.9 million since it premiered Wednesday.

It was a sturdy but unremarkable holiday weekend overall, with the top 12 movies taking in $208.1 million from Wednesday to Sunday, down 3.4 percent from last year, when "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" took in $81 million to lead Hollywood to its second-best Thanksgiving ever. The best Thanksgiving period was in 2000, when the top 12 films grossed $232.1 million.

A flurry of movies debuted or expanded from limited release, led by writer-director Emilio Estevez's "Bobby," weaving together the stories of 22 characters gathered at Los Angeles' Ambassador Hotel the night Robert Kennedy was assassinated in 1968.

"Bobby," from MGM and the Weinstein Co., came in at No. 9 over the weekend with $4.9 million.

Warner Bros. debuted director Darren Aronofsky's fantasy "The Fountain," starring "Happy Feet" co-star Hugh Jackman as a man who lives a 1,000-year adventure. "The Fountain" had a $3.7 million weekend to finish at No. 10.

New Line's "Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny," with Jack Black and musical partner Kyle Gass in a spoof of how their folk-rock duo came to be, opened at No. 11 with $3.3 million over the weekend.

Christopher Guest's Hollywood satire "For Your Consideration" pulled in $2 million in its first weekend of wide release.

Debuting in limited release, Fox Searchlight's "The History Boys" took in a solid $100,721 in just seven theaters. Adapted from the Tony-winning stage play about British teens angling for acceptance to Oxford and Cambridge, the film gradually expands to nationwide release through Dec. 22.

While "Happy Feet" started out mainly a family film, good reviews and word-of-mouth pulled in more adults without children, said Dan Fellman, head of distribution at Warner Bros.

Along with ravishing computer-animated visuals, the adult appeal of "Happy Feet" includes a positive environmental statement and wall-to-wall pop tunes reinterpreted by its vocal cast, led by Elijah Wood, Nicole Kidman, Jackman and Robin Williams.

"I think it's just a good message, and it's just well made. And we all like the music," Fellman said. "Happy Feet" raised its 10-day total to $100.1 million.

With a 10-day domestic total of $94.2 million and a worldwide haul of $224 million, "Casino Royale" is on course to pass 2002's "Die Another Day ($161 million domestically and $432 million worldwide) to become the top-grossing Bond flick, said Rory Bruer, head of distribution at Sony.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. Final figures will be released Monday.

1. "Happy Feet," $37.9 million.

2. "Casino Royale," $31 million.

3. "Deja Vu," $20.8 million.

4. "Deck the Halls," $12 million.

5. "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," $10.4 million.

6. "The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause," $10 million.

7. "Stranger Than Fiction," $6 million.

8. "Flushed Away," $5.8 million.

9. "Bobby," $4.9 million.

10. "The Fountain," $3.7 million.

Dancing penguin puts cash into Village coffers
1st December 2006, 6:15 WST

A film about a dancing penguin is set to create a massive hit for Village Roadshow as the entertainment group hopes for growth this year after a bleak 2005-06.

Happy Feet opened early last month to rave reviews in the United States but Australian audiences won’t see it until Boxing Day.

Chairman Peter Kirby told Village’s annual meeting on the Gold Coast yesterday it was too early to predict the effect the animated movie would have on profit margins.

“It’s going to be an extraordinarily successful film but we’re not a onefilm business,” he said.

“Film production is a tough business. While the revenue from Happy Feet comes through, we’re going to be making other films that are going to lose money.”

Village has forecast strong cash flows and further growth in its film, theme park, cinema and radio divisions for fiscal 2007.

“Your company has a strong balance sheet, we are forecasting strong ongoing cash flows, and we have the financial capacity for renewed smart growth,” Mr Kirby told shareholders.

“It is not our practice to give forecasts. However, going forward, we will be implementing growth strategies in all our business units.”

Village posted a net loss of $35.11 million for 2005-06, compared to a net profit of $49.3 million for fiscal 2005, with a company restructure blamed for the poor result.

Turning to Village’s investment in commercial radio broadcaster Austereo Group, Mr Kirby reiterated it had no plans to sell its 51 per cent share of the network.

Austereo has been considered a possible takeover target when the Federal Government’s new media ownership laws come into effect next year.

“No, it doesn’t really change anything for us,” Mr Kirby said about the new laws.

“We could have done a deal on radio any time but we chose not to because we see it as a long-term business part of the Village Roadshow group.”

Mr Kirby said the film production division would increase the number of films made each year from eight to about 12, with titles over the next two years that include Oceans 13 and Get Smart.

The company’s theme park division — which includes popular sites Warner Bros Movie World, Sea World and Wet ’n’ Wild Water World — would be exploring growth opportunities in Asia.

Mr Kirby also said Village should be in a position to pay regular dividends in the future, after trading, capital requirements and other circumstances had been taken into account.

Village Roadshow shares rose 1¢ to $3.

I listened to the OST of this movie before I went to see it and I thought the songs we're weird. However, after watching the movie, the OST made sense. I like all the singing part of the movie. It was such a happy movie.
litodragongurl
I enjoyed this movie. I thought this movie was very cute... The tapping was very good.. Although it didn't make me tap all the time but it was a very good animation. Having the idea of a penguin being able to tap and entertain the audience and the bad voice.. That isn't so amusing...
~ luv bubble ~
Omfg. Happy Feet was SO EFF-ING HILARIOUS! I LOVED IT! XD
Lol everyone is going on about how cute is was...all I can say about the movie was that is was FUNNY. I couldn't stop laughing every 5mins...it was just hilarious.
I loved those (Mexican?) penguins, the "amigo" ones...omgosh cracked up so much
yuyiyhua
if im right almost everyone love it so I think I have to see this movie after all, I dont usually like animation movies for some strange reason but this one might be good
cuteazncal
The movie is good... but it's not as good as I expected... I love baby Mumble... he was so cute.... The movie did get me to laugh alot.. and I love the tapping... it sounds so great.... I love the mexican penguins too... they were so cute...
OverYou
To me, the only nice cute part of it was the first 10mins. When Mumble was still small. Don't get me wrong. I loved the storyline and it was really refreshing to watch. The tap-dancing was really cute. But the fact remains that a really small cute Mumble grew up to be a weird looking giraffe-like penguin. I found Gloria disturbingly hideous. The big version, of course. They should have made all the penguins around the mexican penguins' size. That would be perfect. But if you look past the animation part, it's a great movie.
Serval
i thought mumble was cute when he was a lil guy. he said "im happy, and my feet are happy too" thats so cute. then he has these pretty eyes! its soo cute how his dad said "she can call him anything" then gloria called him mumble. then the name just stuck to him. soo cute
Dreamer♥
happy feet is soooo cute! The little mumble is so adorable smile.gif. Overall, I think this movie has good animation, good songs so it's a must-watch too smile.gif
MOVIE STAR (:
i felt happy watching this movie!! baby mumble is super cute!! (: the 3 rock-hopper penguins were funny (:
aznpriders4lif
This movie... I didn't like. It dragged on for tooooooooooooo long and it kinda annoyed the crapp outta me!!

But then again, mummble was cute... only when he was a little penguin tho.
BabyPrincess07
This movie was so cute! I felt bad for the penguin in the beginning b/c he didn't fit in, but at least was unique. He was the only one that can dance and made a difference and saved everyone's lives at the end. The singing was awesome too smile.gif
azn_gypsy123
Mumble was so cute at the beginning but I think the movie is very overrated. It dragged on for ages but the ending is quite good.
Sixerz
All i like about this movie is the soundtrack....

I can listen to Gia Farrell - Hit Me Up all day long!!!!
bhea

cool..
i've got the chills...haha
Blueboy
Hahaha, I remember watching this. Really enjoyed it and most of the songs stayed in my head. I had to keep re-watching the part when the humans see them dancing, that part was amazing.
