i what prefer a private school but the fee is like crazy its more expensive than taking university courses....
but then u get alot smarter than other people
Starry Skies
well i went to both a public school before and now going to a private school. and private schools are a lot better. and i dont really get what you mean by have "more friends" in public school so you're saying how in a private school you dont get a lot of friends? uhh...no.

you'll become a lot more smarter and more advanced educational wise in private schools. a few years ago, i heard from my friend that goes to public that there was this kid that got beaten up and almost died in her school. kinda freaky if you ask me. in my school, there was never anything like that, although one or two people beat each other up, it's not that serious that one of them almost dies.

the only bad thing about private is that you have to wear uniforms. lol

Public school.

In Victoria, not neccesarily is Private schools better than Public.
-kaiyi-
public. i live in chicago, USA. here, the public schools are equally as good as private ones, and even better
bluepigsinthesky
i've been to a private school for three years, and i haven't and don't regret it. but i can't really compare as i've never been to a public school since my move.

this is my comparison with my school and the local high school.

the local high school:graduating class-1100 odd students.

my school: graduating class-78 students.

the difference is phenomenal. the first poster had said that in public schools, you have more friends. i don't think you have more friends, but you certainly have a bigger field of candidates to choose from. i think in public schools, cliques are more defined and very stereotypical. the atheletes do just hang out with a certain group of people, just like the artist just hang out with a certain group of people. in my school, we have cliques too, but not as restricted as it would be in the local high school. there isn't a popular group as there is in the local high school, but more popular individuals.

my school's size is tiny in comparison, and offers only a limited number of classes, but there's also an emphasis on results. local high school kids call us preppy, and it's true. but if you pay $13,000 a year in tuition, you better darn well get the grades you need to get in a college of choice.

the list goes on, but really, there's such a difference of opinions and preferences, it depends.

Private school is expensive, makes you wear uniforms, makes you feel like a snob and the teachers are wack.

I'll go with public school.
fahsum
depends. what level of education are we talking about?

i've never been to a private school, so i can't really say. but i would imagine that private school would be better, education quality-wise, becuz i know a lil girl that goes to private school and they're making her do lots of homeworks and teaching her lots of stuff that are at higher levels than a kid her age would learn.

i read an article that it's better to put your kid in private school and then transfer them to public school when they start high school. it sounds valid becuz the reasoning is that private school gives more attention to the student individually, whereas, public school cannot afford that kinda resource to pay attention to each student's capabilities.

I've never really been to private school, except for kindergarden and I don't remember much from it.. there are pros and cons for both institutions. The thing about private school is that sometimes there is that air of "arrogance" that the students have.. I'm not saying everyone is like that, but there are some people like that. Public schools have more "down to earth" kids I guess.. I don't know.. I live in California so our school systems kind of suck.

I went to private school from grade 4 to grade 12. In my opinion, it depends on what private school it is. My private school was pretty good at disciplining you (like your behaviour and morals and stuff), but academics... ermmm I don't think it was better than public school haha.

Plus my school was all-boys... cluebat.gif

if it were me, i'd actually choose to put a child into private school in elementary school. mostly for discipline and (hopefully) better morals and better behaviour. And give the child more attention so that he will have a good academic and moral backbone. And then in grade 8, transfer him to a public school, so that he will start to learn to fit in with a bigger crowd, and start disciplining himself and be prepared for public university.

But I do agree that private schools are safer. We had no gang fights or big problems with drugs or sex (well obviously since it was all-boys school haha). Whereas when I went to summer school at a public school, the principal told us to try to leave the school grounds immediatley after classes ended because there have been reports of gang fights n_thumbdown.gif

in uk public school means private school, but i get what you are saying.
i go to a private school, i don't look down on those who don't though, usually it's the other way round, i get looked down on by people with predjudices against those who go to private school as they think we are snobs. Also private schools give you more opotunities. Witha state school, i could never go to talks by MPs, civil servants, experts etc.

Lol in England both Public and Private schools are the same, they mean the same thing both mean Private school like Eton etc........

Public school.
Private school is expensive & makes you wear uniforms

ohhh in response to this, I really have to say that I liked having to wear uniforms. The most common reasons for having uniforms is so that:

1). students coming from poor family wont' feel embarassed about their clothes. Like now I'm in university where you can wear whatever you want, and you do notice some students wearing the exact same clothing every day to school and the clothes look worn out and no-brand, etc.. Luckily in university, most people are very mature already so no one will make fun of those poor students.

But in elementary+middle+high school, there are bullies or 'mean' people out there who will notice these poor students and make fun of them for their background. So, in a school with mandatory uniforms, everyone is "equal" and no one will get made fun of because of rich or poor background.

2). discipline? if you're forced to wear the same uniform every day and you're not allowed to have "extraordinary" hairstyle, it is a form of discipline.

3). don't have to worry about what to wear every day haha. Once I got into university, sometimes I spend time in the morning wondering what to wear for that day. Whether to wear this jeans or that jeans, this jacket or that sweater, etc... lol... that's why I miss my high school where every day just wear shirt and tie and dress pants and go to school clapping.gif

Public school. cheap n dont have to wear the same clothes are others

Private school is expensive & makes you wear uniforms

nicksaloser
Public school. More working class people, more normal people, people like me. The masses go to public schools.
Aer0
public school

you are more exposed to a vast variety of people, many different types of people, almost all are from working class families.
ViRa
Public. Though the best is Selective Schools (here in Aus). Private schools are ridiculous. The strictness, dear god... and all those movies which depict the private school life, its SAD
Kyo_K
i would prefer public school over private school because your practically learning the same thing just that you gotta pay more when your in a private school..
bliSs_meRonG
i would prefer private school.. but i'm goin public atm.. -__-"
private school has betta school equipments etc than public but the fee is incredible.. shock.gif
lilazntvb
i prefer public b/c it's free...but private schools are expensive but more intense teaching i guess.
chingwahjai
I never been taught in a private school but if I had a kid I think I would enroll them in a private school because there alot of drama going on in public school (atleast where I am from).
man099
public school is better because you an do anything you want to do but prvate school you have to wear uniform.
imadorki
I've been going to private catholic schools since preschool so I wouldn't know which is better.
I'm transferring to a public school for my junior year next school year, so I'm a little scared.
I've been so sheltered in the same enviroments that I don't know what public schols are like.
I love private schools because of the good education, and they don't have to depend on the goverenment for their money needs...Which means no cutting out extra things we might need that we cant afford. They just push the tuition up or get a fundraiser going.
The only thing I hate are the uniforms. My plaid skirt I had to wear = </3
In my school right now we have to wear brown pants, shorts, or skorts with polos so it isn't that bad.
You don't have to worry about what to wear since we are all wearing the same thing.
Another thing is that private schools are generally scmaller so we are all closer and know most of the faces in the school.
I'm going to miss private school, but I'm excited to experience something new next year.
laugh.gif

Edit:One other thing: All those tv shows and movies that show how strict and ridiculous private school are so fake. All the private schools I went to are nothing like that. Our private/catholic schools are not that strict or boring. It makes me mad how they think we are all rich snobs or really religous people. What's up with that?
mojo125
Private school because I would get bullied in a public school, just because I'm Chinese and will get looked down. There's not many strict rules in public schools and as far as the education goes , its no match compared to private school.
I like going to a private school, ppl are more friendly, more neutral in my opinion, but ppl can be snobby.
jadedreams27
From elementary to high school, I think it is better for students to attend public schools. It depends on the area though, if it's too bad, then it's better to go to private schools. But if the area is ok, then I would say public school is better since you get to meet different people and set a good foundation for communication. You can join sports and clubs which interacts/competes with different schools and also meet more people there. It can be argue that you may not get the most education, but you can interact more and be more sociable.

But when it comes to colleges and universities, I think private school is the way to go. I have a several friends who are attending private schools, and they like it a lot (and they came from public high schools). They said that they really look out for you, about your grades and your plans for the future. They would most likey help you find jobs when you enter the real world too, something that public universities may not worry about. Plus, the classes are small and you can learn and interact more with your professor and other students. The only bad thing I would say is that sometimes you get into the religion schools and you have to take some religous classes and the price is really expensive, but I think it's worth it after that.
happyswallow
I've been a public school kid since forever, and I think its fine....but i guess it depends on the community.

Anyway, I will be going to a private university, and I think the private ones make more of an effort to help you pay for college.
aznsuicidal911
Public, u get to meet way more people and u get more freedom and at the same time u learn stuff that's juz about the same as teh private skoo without the fees.
MicroT13
It wasn't until college that I attented a private school. Before that, I went to all public schools and I wouldn't have changed it for anything. The public schools I went to were all in nice, wealthy neighborhoods and the students were no different, so any funding that the school didn't get from the city the parents would donate. I really think that my education is just as good as someone who attended private but sicne I didn't go to one, I'm not in a position to make comments on it.
casual_yet_with_style
Both have areas in which they are stronger and weaker.
For example, public schools, you might not get as much attention from teachers and faculty but there are many school activities and clubs you can join. I am pretty sure public schools have more extra-curricular than public.
Private schools, on the other hand, gives each student more attention thus you might obtain more info. So both have good points and bad!~
bapor
i attend a public school... though i never been to a private school before.. i prefer..public.. because the fees at private. are just too much -.- and i reckon the education is pretty much the same.. except. public u have more freedom
Littlerose
public school .. it's so boringin a private school
inniminnimanimo
i've been at public skool my whole like, but i have quite a few friends that go private, and i find they are both good in their own ways, however if you want to work you way up to the "higher class" like the people whos millionaires by the time they're 25 you'll probably wanna go to a private skool and work on your contacts so you'll be set when you graduate, personally i perfer a public skool becuase you see the more average working class man and you get to appreciate how hard it is to get through life and you learn the value of a dollar, but yeah i say they both good...probably best thing to do will be...go to public skool for years 7-10 then private for 11 and 12 1.gif so you can experience both walks of life and know which path ou want to take
Jojomoska
I mean every school has its own advantages and disadvantages. Public and private have good and bad schools. Now the question is what do you want. With a really great nerdy school, you will lose out on the social end, but with a sporty school, you lose out on the academic end, but might build a great network of friends, etc. So it is very hard to say. I went to a really nerdy school and i lost out on the social end, i kind of regret it, but i am not sure. So in the end, everything has its good and bad, i think you just have to live life and get whatever you will from that school.
Jess V.
i dont mind having strict rules or not a lot of freedom in private schools because its worth it in the end. i attend public schools because they are less expensive but i'd probably prefer private because of the education but i guess it depends on the kind of person you are.
kittyrules
I would prefer public schools more. I'm currently in a public high school and you get more freedom. A private school, on the other hand, is expensive and strict. At least in public schools you get to meet more people rather than the same old people.
leavemealone
i prefer private school because it's more challegening and it really prepares you to college unlike public school where you dont really learn anything.
Rednsxe
For K-6, I would prefer going to private school because the education system is better in those levels. From then on, I would preferr public because you'll learn and meet more people. For college, Private are usually more prestigious schools
gemsq2
i'm going to say public, i get to meet more people and also private schools usually has uniforms, i hate that
Sacreble
I rather go to a puplic school..because I don't see wht the point is to pay for school when you can have it for free.. tongue.gif besides...public school are more free than private
battle3321
I agree, I would attend public schools because it is far more diverse than private schools and instead of spending hundreds on tuition, all that is needed is money for school equipments. Furthermore, though private schools generally may have better teachers or better education, however there are many public schools that are at the same level as many private schools.
smartypnts88
i'd prefer public school. it just "feels" better. i dunno what im saying. just dont feel too good about private schools i guess
XCondom
i prefer public schools because is free and its kinda the same thing as the private school cuz i used to go to a private school and their is no difference...

The only difference is that you need to wear uniforms for private skool and you have to pay for it...
uh_0oh
i woudl perfer to go to public school, because you have more freedom, friends and i dont want religious teachings that some or all private school provides
seniorforever
ahh i love private schools, they're so much better than public schools!
Cam Lam
Argh. I wish I could go to a private school. Public schooling in Florida is really awful. But there's no such thing as a private school without religious teachings. They should make a private school where they teach Buddhism. aahahha.
dan168
I went to a public school and I came out alright, hehe.
But if I had the chance to go to a private school, I wouldn't have minded, it would have given me a better chance of learning more, afterall private schools results have proven to be better.
Helen...
i would prefer public school sbecause i been going to public sschool all my life. but for college..i have no idea whether public lor private
DrunkMunky
Public or private, I dont think it matters much as long the student is willing to learn. I mean yes, you do get a lot more from private schools but if the student doesnt care much about school then it wouldnt matter if it was public or private.
Since I went to public, I will tend to go for that since I got friends from private school and we end up in the same place with the same knowledge so it kinda pointless to go for private. But private does help certain students tho...
Lost 天使
i went to both and i liked private better. i found the private school environment to be more comfortable...don't kno why though.
chi_bi_maru
i attended both public and private. if you wanna no which is "best", it depends on wat u prefer better. public schools is more for people who want to be or prefers to be social, priavte schools are more focused on academics. I enjoyed private school better because i got to be ahead in my subjects compared to the students in public schools, and i got better help and attention in certain subjects, they gave extra help that public school teacher wouldn't be able to cuz they don't have time for us. well thats my opinion and hope it helps.
