hey. just wondering which of the twins memeber do you prefer ? judging by the posts in the "hong kong female artists" section, gillian is more popular with almost 3000 posts while charlene only has 1000. but that doesn't mean much since charlene fans may not visit asianfanatics so want to hear you opinion =] didn't see a post for this topic yet so thought i would start one [x


personally, i prefer gillian. but that's just my thought. charlene is okaay too, but i just like gillian better. especially because although EEG doesn't give her a lot of opportunities to shine, she still does. AND she's reaaallly beautiful and cute AND she looks extremely compatible with edison and kenny. wonder why she's sinle. it's weird how most of the cute/pretty actresses in hong kong and taiwan are single when there's so many cute guys like kenny and edison and daniel wu and etc. maybe they're too busy for guys

I would also prefer Gillian over charlene. I just find charlene is so annoying sometime. EEG has these strit rule that they don't allow their artists to date.

Gillian. I've liked her ever since Twins was formed. There's nothing wrong with Charlene, but I just favor Gillian. I don't have a reason, nor do I think you need a reason to idolize someone, I perfer Gillian and that's that. lol ^__^

Gillian all the way; she sings well, smiles beautifully, and has become a promising actress. From one of my friends who attended the Twins 2006 Concert, he said that Gillian was quite humble in person and had an unforgettable personality. Too bad, the cameras didn't catch him as part of the DVD since he didn't attend the first night, lol.

I prefer Charlene. She has a girl next door appeal and is bloosoming into quite a looker lately. I like her singing and in my opinion, I feel that she is the better singer out of the two. No complaints abt her acting.

Somehow, Gillian appeals to me more. Eg. the Sun Wu Kong drama serial (forget the name XP) even though Charlene was the main lead's love while Gill is not and most of the times, I usually like the main leads more but somehow in this drama serials, Gillian is go-go for me. X3

Gillian's visage is much more striking than Charlene (my opinon) as well as her vocals X3 So overall, I like Gillian much more~!

Well, this is my opinion so no one needs to agree.

Gillian is my pick. I liked her ever since the beginning of Twins. I admit at first I liked her cause she's the "prettier" twin but after really "listening" to Twins, I founnd myself attracted to her voice. Now, it may sound bias cuz it's obvious I'll enjoy her voice more then someone I liked but to be honest, it wasn't biased at all. I didn't "like" Twins back then but only knew about them. When I first "listened" to them, it was on the Touch of Love album and that's the one with the solo songs. I listened to the whole album but felt myself repeating to that one song with that one girl. It was Gill's solo. I didn't know who was singing and was convinced it was both of them until I listened more carefully. I only liked the "prettier" twin but I didn't know her name back then. I don't think that's biased at all considering the fast that I only knew them as the group Twins and never truly listened to them so technically, I like her cause of her voice. I also like her on-screen personal. I may not know her personally, but the personal she presents to the media is why I like her.

I also like Charlene but I won't deny the fact that I like Gill more.

i like gill better than sa beacuse she more mature and pretty. Sa is 2 babyish. you don't want a girl that looks like 12 when she is 20 sumthing. You don't want a girl that's cute only.... you want one wif a mature body, mature personatiliy/mind and is pretty.

If I was to choose I would choose GILLIAN--why because she's just awesome and she has an adorable killer smile.
Charlene is great, too. No doubt, she does have a bubbly personality and her singing is getting a lot better than before but I still think she needs more work vocalizing her voice. I think that TWINS both needs work and vocalizing their voices. It's great already but still needs to expand more. They both have grown so much already that a little more work isn't so bad.

As for why I choose Gillian. It's not because she's pretty and gorgeous. Everyone knows that she's pretty already but no one ever really invest their time in getting to know Gillian outside of her beauty. Gillian have this natural beauty about her and these characteristics that tend to make her the shy quiet one but if you really look carefully she's really not. I see Gillian as this cocoon who's burst out and spread her wings and fly off to explore the world and let them get a taste of what she can do. She's quiet and shy because no one really gives her the chance and the opportunity to invest in her. So she hides behind her partner who's the spontaneous one. If people would let her spread her wings I bet people would view her more differently. They would see her as someone who has the potential to outshine those who doesn't have faith in her. No one should just judge a person base on their looks or personality. I mean yeah that's true it does have to do a lot with the looks and personality but really it's base on potential, talent, and the will to push yourself to succeed and that's what Gillian has. She pushes herself over the limit to work hard, to strive for the very best not for herself but her family. She works hard and try her best at everything she does to please everyone and yet she doesn't have a complain about whether she's in pain nor she's working too much and needs rest. That's why I admire Gillian so much. She works hard to get where she is now. Even though so many people criticize her because of her inability to act and sing but she's still standing and going forward. She doesn't listen to those hurtful remarks people say about her especially that she can't act nor can she sing and her personality is dull but I don't think that's the main component of why people criticize her. She's a hard worker and always shine right back even when they put her down or even when's she's in pain. I idolize Gillian so much because of the way she was brought up. When she slips she always stand right back up and try again. She's willing to put herself out there and at the same time doesn't try to come off too strong or trying to hard to make people like her. I love the fact that Gillian had to work her way up the ladder to get to where she is. She's work hard and it paid off. People criticize her but yet she manage to shine right through and I admire that. Gillian is the kind of person you'd love to be when you grow up because she's a hard worker. She's a very good Role Model for young teenagers and young children.
No matter how much her company's lack of promotions for her she still shine. She makes things possible for people like us That if you work hard you'll bound to make your dreams come true. She's confident in the things she do and I adore that.
And the fact that she has so much emotions in her and portray it into her character just really amaze me and bring me to tears. When seeing her in films and she's doing a crying scene you can't help but feel her pain and cry with her.
One of the main reason why I adore and admire Gillian so much is that she doesn't let anyone put her down. She's a fighter and very humble. She's an "ALL ASIAN GIRL"-the GIRL NEXT DOOR that everyone adore and love. That's GILLIAN CHUNG.

I believe Gillian and Charlene have grown up so much and have progress into fine young woman. They still have such long ways to progress in the entertainment industry.

Anyway, I would first like to say I love BOTH Twins and I love them TOGETHER best. I think they shine best when together, they have so much chemistry together. I really think that they have a strong bond together.

Why? Well. It's just everything about her! If you could bottle sunshine and make a person from it, that person would be named Charlene Choi! Okay...that is about the corniest thing I have ever said But you get my point. Charlene...she just exudes so much radience, energy, and youth! When she smiles, you just can't help but smile. When she laughs, you laugh along with her. She's so vibrant and animated, whenever she's in front of the camera my eyes are just naturally drawn towards her. She just has so much presence that makes her shine so bright! She is funny, but smart too...and such a hard worker! Like when she was dancing for that one show, but had really bad stomach cramps...she still gave it her all even though she was running to the bathroom every time she had the chance! And she danced well and smiled despite all her discomfort! She always get's attacked for her looks by the media, but she just laughs it off. She is really humble and down-to-earth and that's something that is really admirable about her. Her singing, neither of the Twins are the best singers, but when Sa sings I can tell she loves doing it. So much emotions go through her face when she performs, you can see she gives it her all. And her dancing, although the choreography (sp?) is generally awful, Charlene works it. She puts a lot of energy and heart into her performances And her acting I feel is really natural. From a tragic role to a silly comedic one, she does it all well IMO!

Of COURSE Charlene is not flawless. But I don't think i need to go into her flaws here. This is only the tip of the iceburg of why i LOVE Ah Sa so much

I love both girl, but im not going to lie and pretend im noth girl's fan and then dissing them. I like Gillian more, why? i don't really know. Well, im pretty supprise when everytime i go-online, i go to this site and in to Gillian's thread. I'm not very dond with the whole "Asian/HK music", because i think they are very shallow and stereotype, that's why i don't even bother to care. But some how, Gillian caught my eyes. I mean of course she is very, and flawless. The first time i see her and Char movie together, my first though was " WOW!! she so amazang", then i did a little serach myself ( kind of embrassing to tell my friend that i like HK artitst because i was labled as White Whashed Girl). I find even though her partner get more chance to shine, but Gillian shine in her own way, when everyone in putting her down, gave all the negative comment, but she brushed that aside and keep on moving. Gillian is beautyful no matter what they say. Oh, how they said Gillian is fat and have elephan leg, she just laught off and keep on strong. She is quite, but if you REALLY get to know her. She can be as loud as Char is, you need patient to see what Gillian can become. I can see the bright future in her path, no matter how much EEG limited her. She WILL shine through darkness, her voice is soft but yet be heard. It captured people's soul everytime they look into her eyes. Char is pretty and bubble and everythin and what not, but she doesnt stand out from the crow like Gillian does. She stant out by her personality and inner beauty. Only people have taste and deep known what Gillian can become.
Of course everyone is cute and bubble and out going, but that is everyone. Gillian have though and many more, she put her emotion on everysong, put her very best effort to it. That's why you can feel the song when she sing it, you can feel the pain in the song through Gillian's voice. Everytime Gillian cry, you feel the sadness and tear just come out when you look at her teary's eyes.
I think ten or seven years from now on, she still my idol, despite what happent to Twins. She will goes far if Twins doesnt, not fast, but i defnitely know that she will go far then that.

When it comes to choosing twins...I chose CHARLENE...she is soooo cute and have such an adorable smiles that makes her shine. She have such a good voice when she singing but, I think that both Gillian and Charlene still have to work on their vocal cause they are not the best yet...from the beginning til now...both Charlene and Gillian have grown a lot and they both are changing in every way: their looks, their singing ability, their acting ability, and themselves. What makes me really love Charlene is because she is very natural.

Charlene may not look very strong but she is. No matter how sick or even when she is in pain, Charlene will continue doing her work and I really love her for that. That's true because when I was re-watching their concert, (2006) and when they was singing a slow song after they sang "Samba" and Gillian voice was really sweet and can really attract people, not saying Charlene voice isn't sweet or anything but her voice kept on hitting the mic which made it had a "puh" sound to it...

i heard that CHARLENE won the most popular artist ( or was it actress >3< ) in hong kong i'm happy for her true. but i really thought that gillian was more popular. i guess gillian is more popular on a global basis whereas charlene is more popular in hong kong. and since only people in hong kong got to vote, i guess it's reasonable that ah sa got the award.

Reasons why Char is better:
a) She's done for acting. She has more films done than Gillian. I wonder why Gillian has less.
She sings better. When i look at concerts, it seems to me that Gillian has no breathe when she sings, like she gotta take a breathe after each verse or something.
c) She's more OUTGOING. Charlene is all smiles and waves to her fans during concerts or tours, or whenever she sees her fans. You really don't see Gillian do much.

Actually you can't say that Charlene is more outgoing unless you actually know them in real life. How do you know if Gillian is outgoing or not? In concerts I see Gillian waving to her fans too!

Sa received an award for Most Potential Actress also referred to as Best Newcomer but that was some time ago, a time when Gillian really had no solo films, no beefy roles to gain herself recognition but times have changed, Gillian was nominated as Best Actress for Beyond Our Ken. Gillian skipped right over the small awards like Most Potential/Best Newcomer into receiving a nomination for Best Actress, that already says a lot. Hm, I swear I read somewhere, the award Sa received was based on popular votes so it was similar to a popularity contest but either way, congrats to both Twins for receiving something in the acting industry.

Hm, I don't think Gillian's beauty is obvious, it really depends on preference. And just to clarify, I agree, beauty isn't everything indicating Gillian fans love Gillian for who she is, not for what she is, a beauty. Beauty may initially attract, yes very true just like how you believed Sa was prettier, isn't that beauty as well? Anyway, if every Gillian fan was that shallow in only loving Gillian for her looks, Gillian's popularity would have declined way deep by now, there are prettier girls out there than Gillian or are you trying to imply that Gillian is the prettiest? Gillian's beauty was the first thing people in general noticed but it was her own charm and uniqueness that maintained their interest and loyalness.

1) Sa began acting way before Gillian. Gillian has this pure image she needs to keep.
2) Hm, Sa is actually the one with the loud respiration. Which event or concert did you watch? Perhaps I may have to re-watch it.
3) Hm, like Gill#1Fan stated, Gillian waves at her fans, greets them, and smiles all the time as well. I don't necessarily call that outgoing, that's their image. Now, if you have hung out with both Twins personally, perhaps you may be able to tell which one is more outgoing than the other.

Guys, if you like Sa, then state why, don't have to point out all the flaws you believe makes Gillian a less better person just to support your favoritism towards Sa. Gillian fans should do the same too just to avoid any future clashes.

Just because Gillian skipped over other awards and got nominated for 'Best Actress' doesn't mean awards like 'Best Newcomers' should be degraded to 'small awards'. Best Newcomer awards are important because it shows that the newcomer has potential in whatever field they are in. From there, the artist works harder to achieve higher grounds. Sometimes it's quick, sometimes it takes years, but it's a good start. For someone that skips all the way to Best Actress, I would ask how come such a quick jump without any acclaim from previous roles on her acting?

But I don't think you speak for all Gillian fans about whether they like Gillian more than her looks though hehe. I think looks could take an actress pretty far. I mean, not speaking about just Gillian, but Twins, as a group, probably gained a lot of fans because of their image/looks.

As for the shadow part, I think ah Gill was in Sa's shadow before when they first came out because as others have said, she had more movies at hand, and ah Sa was not a bad actress. Now, it could be said that ah Sa is behind ah Gill's shadow due to her success in HOF and BOK.

Totally true...I stated above mentioning not only Gillian's beauty but everything else that I like about her. I wrote about almost an essay on why I idolize Gillian and admire so much. That should clearly state why not only because of her beauty that people admire her.
What AsillySaint said is true. People can be pretty very pretty but if not for anything else then no one wants to stay interested in them. I took my time to invest in Gillian because I saw something in her that made me continue otherwise I wouldn't at all. Usually pretty girls doesn't have talent but as for Gillian it's different. Gillian have so much more to give and I believe in her.




I'm pretty sure their looks/image did played an important role in them gaining popularity but I doubt that that is the only reason. Charlene's fans admire Charlene because they see something in her and Gillian's fans admire her because they see something in her, too. It's not all just looks. I don't think looks can take an actress really far, it can for a while but then it dies out. Just like the ugly duckling. She was ugly at first and all her other siblings were so beautiful but in the end she turned into this beautiful duck. You can be not good looking and make it far as long as you have the potential in you to take yourself there. You can be very good looking and make it far for awhile but then you die out because you can't accomplish anything.
It takes a really courageous, determined, strong-willed, humble, and confident person to get to where Gillian is with all the criticisms she had to endure. I'm sure most people would give up but Gillian is confident in the things she does that's why people probably admire her. I know I do.

I admire Gill a lot because she comes from a very sad background she did not come form a rich family she did not know her dad because he pass away when she was just a baby all she had was her mom and they weret doing to good.but yet even after sach a hard childhood she grow up and has became a successful pop star you could till she wroks really hard for wat shes got and to get to where she is and not buy her way in to the bussiness like most hong kong celebrities her success says a lot for kids that comes form the same background.

I would like to see a movie about Twins life from their childhood to there adulthood and how they both got to where they are and whos life and road to success would have a Deeper Impact on the fans.

Gillian may somewhat be in Charlene's shadow but everthing about her is so much Deeper to me and I really admire her jast for makeing it with all odds against her.
