A dedective series is at it's top when the hints and events given at the beginning of a stories can let the viewer draw a conclusion on who the real culprit should/could be, so that when the culprit is finally revealed, the viewer would get a "I KNEW IT" or "DAMN, SHOULD HAVE SEEN THAT!"-feeling.
Such a storytelling also leaves a lot of space for discussion and "guessing".
What do you feel about this? I think a series like FH has the real potential to achieve such storylines, because they are forensics. .
They get in the business AFTER the crime was commited and they have to gather all the evidence right there. After that, it's puzzle time. And the viewers should be able to puzzle with them.
The DIF-trilogy succeeded in this ( even though it's even harder for them, because they had to introduce the victims first...) It seems that Forensic Heroes is trying to achieve such goals too, but I feel that it's failing. Because not all the suspects are shown in the beginning and not all the clues are given. It's often that one new clue leads to final conclusion

Well, it is a good series, i agree with you new clue will just solve the case, because they are based on technology, not some kind of logic,
in DIF, they are linked character with all the story, it is pretty easy to guess, may be it is more enjoyable too, cause, they usually drag 1 eps to reveal the murderer or the criminal
but in FH, those guest star which previously used to be the GOOD guy/gal acted as bad guest star, so it is hard and short lived suspense,
i do enjoy this series, with some correct amount of knowledge and logic from them, i know they copied here and there, for some cases, lolz

Yeh i would have to agree. Like the cases shown so far in FH could have a bigger send off. It leaves you in suspense but the preview to the show kindah spoils it for you or the preview to the next episode. I prefer detective series to leave you suspended and questioning (or in a dilemma) before it reveals the ending. Yeh i think introducing all the characters first and then asking "who did it?" is more effective. (eg. Gosford Park - movie)

to me, this is not the detective series like we see in dif where in each case u'll be wondering who is the murderer, following clues, looking at who looks suspicious, etc. - after all, i've seen 3 cases so far and in 2 there were no real "murderers" so to speak
of course it does have some elements of a detective series - the guessing and suspense - which makes it interesting to watch - but i don't think the focus is as much on looking for the culprit than on showcasing the forensic work and how useful it is in dealing with evidence in searching for the truth. that's why (i think) the makers spent less effort in trying to build up to the revelation of the "culprit" as opposed to showing how the forensic work is done

I think this is a great detective series where you can kind of guess who the criminal is before it is revealed. The clues and DNA stuff is really awesome. The thing is, the series focuses on more than just cases, also all the other love affairs of the characters, this makes it less like a pure detective series.

Well, I think Forensic Heroes is pretty cool but somehow, they're not really capturing my full attention because when I watch it, there seems to be something missing.
I kinda feel like the quality of their cases isn't very good... I guess what I'm trying to say is that for the DIV series, they spend quite a good portion of time on sovling crimes but for FH, I feel like they don't spend enough time solving each case. Maybe FH is more about forensics and science, but I still feel like theyre not spending enough time in the lab and showing us what forensics is about.
Also, the cases are kinda predictable... if anyone has watched "Women On the Run", the cases in FH somehow remind me a lot of the crappy cases that "Women on the Run" have... =X
But, the overall idea of making a series about forensics definitely caught my attention

If i have to compare to all the past detective serie, than i would say the past is much better than FH...In FH, i can easily guess who is the murderer. And all the case are so short. They solve the case so fast...Anyways overall this is a good detective serie...

Really? You were able to guess that it was the "caretaker" that accidentally killed Bobby's wife? Or it was Yoyo's aunt that killed her husband? (I thought that Fung Sui Master had something to do with it). Wow...

I think it's hard to compare this series to the DIF trilogy cuz this series is based on forensic evidence.. After a theory is presented, the forensic evidence supports or disproves the theory and then another theory has to be presented. It's still an entertaining series.. and I think it has the potential to have a sequel..

I think this is a good detective series because I sometimes get the wrong killer... its like i guessed wrong... so it seems to interest me... that makes a good detective series when you couldn't guess who the killer is until the case is almost solved...

iono. i actually thought DIF was so predictable. Like right when u see the person, u know who did it. its always the one where u don't talk much about and doesn't seem like the killer. also, how they solve cases are actually kinda stupid. like little things just "coincidentally" happen in front of them and suddenly they know who did it. it credits the detectives more than the forensics..
whereas in this series, it shows more of both sides. how forensics and detectives cooperate to solve crimes. maybe they don't work THAT closely like i doubt forensics just works on one big case that so happens to come one after another. and maybe there are stupid coincidences like the escalator and the car tires helping them solve cases but there were less and its less stupid. its kinda good at keeping you guessing for the first few cases cause you really don't expect it but as the story goes on, you could see the scriptwriters' style and figure out that the killer is always the one with the smallllllllllllest part in the whole case. like the rapist, the janitor, the guy that was in a coma who hurt himself, and so on.

I agree with shadowwhispers. It's like a introduction to things that you never see detective stories (from HK :-P). It is fascinating, evidence and all. At least they're are giving the forensic crew the credit they deserve. But when thinking about these revelations, the bad guys get the chance to learn about these technique's. But, oh well, there's always a way to outsmart them.
I also think the case about Charlie is very good. Not only the outcome, but the essence of the story. Chinese (mostly the older generations) still love to use old remedies to 'cure' diseases. They really believe in these kind of stuff, while some of them may be very harmful.
Overall, i Think it's a nice series. It has a mix of romance, drama and suspense in it. Entertaining enough to keep on watching.

I think FH is a good detective series, it's got really good and intelligent cases there. I'm enjoying it heaps. Sometimes I can guess the culprit, because they do leave some clues for the viewer, sometimes they tell us.. and its all cool.
I also like the aside love stories among the characters. It's a good relaxing thing where you don't have to think, just watch

I reckon this series has good cases, but it's pretty repetitive in my opinion. I'm saying that sometimes you can guess the criminal even if you don't have enough evidence because their first guess you can be sure it's incorrect, there is ALWAYS a twist in each case.
Overall, it's pretty interesting because the cases are pretty cool and the actors do well and they show how they slither through and direct it to that criminal.

FH is an ok detective series to me because I find most of the cases similar to the ones on CSI like the throwing bricks is similar to the gun-shooting in CSI. I like DIF more and the stories they have there were different and more original in the cases. But having sequels to detective series like this isnt a bad idea.
This serie is so cool, and I think it is becuase the case and the technology they used to when they released the cases =P

i like this series too.. but i must say, after the first case.. i was able to cross off and pick which suspects as the culprits pretty easily. it was never the first guy they arrested or the most obvious person.. it's always some guy that has no attention or that comes out of nowhere (like the clown guy at the end)

I would say it is a good detective story. There are many cases to solve, each with a different story. One can learn a lot by watching this series. In some cases, it's obvious to know which one is the real murderer.

As a good detective series...I'm not so sure. I could guess half of the culprits of the cases and some of them had plotholes. But as a series, it was very good. The relationship and cases balance was just right and the leads were very good (I'm a Bobby fan but anyways) especially Frankie Lam. He was SO cool in it. It also had enough dramatic impact and even though the cases weren't perfect, they had the whole suspense effect. Overall it deserves it's high ratings.

^Agreed. I actually guessed a lot of the cases and go them righ tbecause it can be very obvious. In terms of quality, it's an alright detective show. Compared to shows like CSI, I think CSI would be better. I guess it could've been more serious and dramatic but it wasn't.

hmm... i really like FH more than other detective dramas i ever seen on TVB... before this, the detectives drama in TVB focus more in how the police work on the cases and don't focus much in the forensic... it reminds me of CSI... but still, CSI is more interesting as some of the story of the cases are predictable...

Finally have the chance to finish watching this series.
I actually think it's OK. Like most other TVB series, the beginning first one or two episodes are usually done
in style to impress followed by a bit of slow down in pace to introduce all characters etc.
Overall it's watchable, ie not just cops vs bad guys type. At least there is some very interesting explanation
of how forensic technique and evidence are being used to expose the origin of the crime. I hope that all
that have been shown are true and correct technically just to make it informative and educational for the
viewers.
Of course, there is another side of the concern that exposing too much on forensic examination and analysis
may actually tip all criminals-to-be off that the may learn to be more cautious and better prepared to leave
no trace of evidence ..... Unforunately.
Overall, it's good entertaining value!

I think this is a good forensic series. I have watched a lot of forensic series before and I think this one is the best because they introduce more modern technology and they teach you a lot of stuff. The only thing they lack is a more intense cases. Beside that I think the series is pretty good.

just finished this series awhile ago and i thought that it was alright. would have liked it better if it didn't copy most of its cases from CSI. even some of the things that happened was logically explained. if anyone watched CSI as often as i do will realized how many cases this series copied from the american show.
to name a few, for example: (SPOILERS)
1. the first case where the killer staged his stabbing by sticking the knife between the door hindges and falling back onto the knife to make it look like someone stabbed him.
2. the case where the killer staged the deaths based on frakie's book. the one where the guy was electricuted while watching tv with the fan facing him and the bowl of ice. exact copy of the CSI case. same scenery and same logic.
3. the fingerprint case where the clown guy stole his finger print and planted it on the bomb. (tho in CSI, his fingerprint was stolen and planted on the bathtub of the crime scene).
4. the last case where bobby was kidnapped and the kidnapper, acting on revenge (which was the same reason for the CSI kidnapping), provided bobby's whereabouts through web cam feeds. this is an exact copy of the CSI case. the only diff is that the CSI was placed in a coffin-like glass case and barried underground.
5. the case where human remains were found in the sewage and later found out that it was a murder. and they had to trace the sewage paths to find out where was the initial dump.
there are so many more but these were the most obvious ones. and some of them i dont know if they are copied or not since i didnt watch every single CSI episode. its a shame that TVB would do such thing. to borrow ideas is one thing but to copy scene for scene is totally wrong. they only changed minor details and that's it.
not only did the show copied cases of CSI, some of the stuff is not logically explained either.
1. when they were trying to screen the bed for blood or semen, the room is suppose to be completely dark for it to work. but in the series the windows were opened and the whole room was extremely bright.
2. the last case when frankie said that bobby, with no water or food, had 4 days to live even when he was missing for nearly a day already! no one, no matter their size, can live past 3 days without water and 7 days without food. if you are weak you die before 3 days but you can only live up to 3 days.
3. same case, where bobby was in the bin thing and tried to make a fire from a small piece of glass from the light of the small hole. his fingers would have been burned, since he was holding the glass directly, if that small amount of light was hot enough to cause a fire.
4. again the same case, they end up finding him when the smoke showed up. from a hole that small, there was no way such a large cloud of smoke could come up from it. even if the smoke came through the cracks, the smoke would not be that big. and if the bin was filled up with that much smoke, bobby would have suffocated to death by the time they got to him since it takes awhile for the smoke to fill up.
the storyline and acting was good but everything else wasnt. would have enjoyed it more if they didnt do all this. made me so frustrated when i watched the series and knew of these facts. just hope they will do a better job in the sequal
