Gong Li now that she has aged she looks even more beautiful. In memoirs she was amaaaaaazing. Today I saw Miami Vice (american movie) and she was amazing, her role was Isabella...a chinese-cuban drug dealer/business woman. She was fantasting dancing "Salsa". I only saw the movie because she was in it and it was worth it. Here are some pictures of her:

Thanks for sharing all these pics! Can't wait to see her in Miami Vice too.
I've just watched Memoirs of a Geisha. I found the film quite boring, Zhang Ziyi and Michelle Yeoh were ok in it, but Gong Li was absolutely AMAZING. She's the real star of the film, you just couldn't get your eyes off her when she was on screen ^^;

Yeap, I'm with you. The only great character on the film was Hatsumomo. The way Gong Li portrayed her on the movie wasn't the same as the book. On the book, Hatsumomo is very cold hearted and had no mercy at all. On the movie, I loved the character because it wasn't only cold...but at the same time Gong Li gave her a sence of humanity that the book didn't had......but it still was the villain but with a little heart. I just loved her, amazing artist. Truly one of the best I've seen.
On Miami, when she talked spanish I was surprised as that's my native language. She speaked it so well but with minor flaws. But she did great on her first time. She's working on the english (as when she speaks it she reminds me of my boss as she's also chinesse) and she's doing great. KEEP IT UP GONG!!!!!

Actress Gong Li says biggest challenge in Hollywood is tackling non-Chinese charactersBy MIN LEE
AP Entertainment Writer
Saturday December 16, 2006
Chinese actress Gong Li attends the premiere of her new film "Curse of the Golden Flower" in Hong Kong Saturday, Dec.16, 2006. (AP Photo/Vincent Yu)HONG KONG (AP) -- Chinese actress Gong Li says the biggest challenge she faces in Hollywood isn't the language barrier, but rather tackling non-Chinese characters.
Gong, best known for her collaboration with Chinese director Zhang Yimou in films like "Red Sorghum," "Raise the Red Lantern" and "To Live," has shot a series of English-language movies lately.
She portrayed a Japanese escort in "Memoirs of a Geisha"; an ethnic Chinese money launderer for a south American drug kingpin in "Miami Vice"; and a Japanese woman married to the uncle of serial killer Hannibal Lecter in the upcoming "Young Hannibal," a prequel to the thriller "The Silence of the Lambs."
"I very rarely portray a real Chinese character, like a native Beijing resident, in Hollywood," said on the sidelines of the Hong Kong premiere for her new movie "Curse of the Golden Flower" late Saturday.
Referring to her character in "Miami Vice," Gong said, "even though she looks Asian, her character, her thoughts, her thinking aren't Asian at all. That's hard to master."
"Hollywood films are more challenging. I like the challenge," she added.
The movie, which marks Gong's reunion with director Zhang, continues the trend of big-budget Chinese-language epics set in ancient China. Zhang himself has directed two previous films of the same genre, "Hero" and "House of Flying Daggers."
Some critics say such films offer stunning sets and visuals but weak stories.
Gong said Zhang was careful to beef up the story of "Curse," which revolves around the power struggle between an ancient Chinese king (Chow Yun-fat), his queen (Gong) and his three sons.
"When the director first discussed the script with me, he was very careful that it wasn't a big but empty production. Very attractive packaging isn't enough. There has to be a story," she said.
Gong said Zhang learned from the experience of "Hero" and "House of Flying Daggers."
"He's made a few films like this. He put together elements from those films and improved the story," she said.
Gong said she is due to shoot another Hollywood movie next year but declined to give details.

Question Gong Li about her generous display of bosom in Curse of the Golden Flower (so do the rest of the women in the film) and the voluptuous mainland Chinese actress will tell you that director Zhang Yimou has picked “good girls who are well endowed”. And no, the women do not have to wear corsets.
“The Tang Dynasty costumes reveal the female beauty,” explains Gong Li over the phone from her home in China. (The actress had to pull out of the movie junket in Singapore because her mother was ill.) “We’ve done our research. The clothes are tailor-made, comfortable and elaborate. So we ladies have no problems putting them on, especially when we had to shoot our film in the burning summer in China.”
Curse of the Golden Flower is also special to the 41-year-old because it proved that ex-lovers could still work together. (For those who are still in the dark, Gong Li and Zhang Yimou were romantically involved once.) “All these years, director Zhang and I still keep in touch with each other,” the actress discloses. “I’ve always wanted to work with him again.”
Ten years have passed since the powerful duo last worked together on To Live. But according to Gong Li, Zhang has not changed much. “He’s always cool and calm. Like a general, he will guide his actors. He’s also the kind of director who will not waste your talent. As an actor, you feel compelled to give him your best because you know he appreciates you. I feel good, safe and secure working with him. We have 100% mutual trust and respect for each other.”
Zhang aside, Chow Yun-fat is the other man that gets the acclaimed actress all excited.
“I’ve never met him before,” Gong Li enthuses. “But I’ve always wanted to work with him because as a Chinese actor, it’s a great loss if you don’t work with Chow Yun-fat. His talents are enormous. He’s also genuine. A nice guy who makes it a point to get to know everyone that he’s working with. His wife is so lucky to have him.”
But as a woman, will she ever fall in love with Chow’s hard-hearted alter ego in Curse of the Golden Flower?
“Never. Not just me, any woman wouldn’t want a husband like that.”
Given the chance, Gong Li says she wants to do a comedy with Chow.
“He’s a man with a great sense of humour. Since I’ve never done comedy before, I sure can learn a lot from him.”
As for her on screen son Jay Chou, Gong Li says he’s naturally a shy guy. “My opening dialogue with Jay says that I haven’t seen him in three years. But in actual fact, we haven’t met at all!

Stars war: Gong Li's vengeance in 2006
Friday December 22, 2006
BEIJING, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Some call her a goddess, others say she's the empress, but all acknowledged she's had a long reign as China's top film star. Gong Li, the voluptuous, if not iconic Chinese beauty in a dozen of film classics -- has resurfaced with a vengeance this year.
After a two-year hiatus the 40-year-old film siren is starring in three major U.S. films, and her just-released Chinese epic is ripping up box office records in China.
Without officially announcing her return, Gong Li, has provide a multi-course feast of performances this year. In the U.S. productions she plays a wicked and unwilling mentor in "Memoirs of a Geisha", a sexy, wealthy drug dealer in "Miami Vice" and a Japanese woman who is related by marriage to a serial killer in "Young Hannibal".
In the 45-million-dollar Chinese epic "Curse of the Gold Flower", released across China on Dec. 15, Gong Li, steps back in history to play the beautiful but embattled Empress whose family's empire is collapsing in a series of bloody clashes.
The actress has not only played in the east and the west, she's won awards at home and aboard. She now knows exactly what she wants from her career.
"A role has to be dramatic. That's the most important factor I look for. My character has to have something to tell the audience, her character has be built with complexity," she said.
"I have always been looking for different characters, characters that will bring out my potential," Gong Li said in a recent interview.
Born in 1965 in northeast China's Shenyang, Gong was the youngest daughter of an economics professor.
She enrolled in the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing in 1985 where she was discovered by her long time collaborator director Zhang Yimou.
They first worked together on "Red Sorghum" in 1987, which won a Golden Bear from the Berlin Film Festival, casting both Zhang and Gong in the international limelight.
Zhang and Gong became China's best-known, most admired and successful film couples during the 1990s. Their films were innovative, introspective and retrospective, often digging deep into Chinese culture while focusing on universal aspects of human nature.
Whether playing a pregnant villager searching for justice in "The Story of Qiu Ju" or a rich man's concubine struggling to survive in "Raise the Red Lantern", Gong Li gave her characters a grace and sensuality that transfixed international audiences.
"If you like your job as an actress, you will want to portray different types of characters. It might not be so easy, but if you can do it well, you will feel the joy of being an actress," Gong said.
In 1993 Gong Li moved on to work with Director Chen Kaige in the stunning film Farewell, My Concubine, which won the Palme d'Orat the Cannes Film Festival.
Back with director Zhang the couple worked together before their famous split on "Shanghai Triad" which was released in 1995. As the pair went their separate ways, many were shocked to see Gong marry Singaporean tobacco tycoon Ooi Hoe Soeng.
As Gong's fame matured so did her stature in worldwide cinema. She became the first Chinese person to head juries at the Berlin, Venice and Tokyo international film festivals. She turned from the front of the camera to judging for a simple reason -- the respect of her craft.
"There were just no roles that were worth my time," Gong explained. "I felt they were average and anyone could do them, it didn't need to be me. I look for roles that not everyone can play."
After a decade working pursuing their separate careers, Zhang and Gong have connected again in, "Curse of the Golden Flower", which has set a new opening-weekend box office record in China.
"Working again with the director after so long, I discovered from our conversations we still have a lot in common. It's not that different than from 10 years ago. We're very relaxed with each other. We both know what we need to do," Gong said.
"I know how to give my best performances for the director. I hope he's satisfied," she said.
While Gong was laying low a number of younger, equally beautiful actresses moved to fill the void. Many movie-goers must have seen Gong Li's star fade as Zhang Ziyi shot to fame after starring in Ang Lee's Oscar winner "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
Zhang Ziyi became Zhang Yimou's next mainstay. They collaborated on "The Road Home", "Hero" and "House of Flying Daggers".
After working with Gong and Zhang so closely Director Zhang is in a unique position to judge their work. The man, many believe, who has the best job in the world says both actresses were born to perform.
In her year of comeback, Gong Li is not about to be eclipsed by the younger Zhang Ziyi.
A recent Internet poll has seen Gong voted the "most outstanding actress in 2006." Zhang Ziyi was second.

Love ZZ, too, but I think Gong Li did a much better job in CotGF than ZZ did in The Banquet.

While I think that it is beyond absurd to conclude that Gong Li was the only talent on display in
Memiors of a Geisha (making me wonder what film the some of other folks were watching as I found the little girl who played Zhang Ziyi's younger character, Zhang herself, and Michelle Yeoh all to have been worthy of merit), I fully concur that Ms. Li is one of the true talents in the world of cinema. Her undeniable beauty can only be outdone by her sultry and sometimes outright steamy performances. This is a female that spells out the word
w-o-m-a-n in every sense of the word. She is truly captivating with each new move and angle and certainly the type that has men falling over themselves in order to curry favor with her. Your eyes follow her when she's on the screen and the sight of her name in the credits allows that you will not be taking a trip to the restroom any time soon.
I find the references to her age nearly comical, but must admit that the concept of one's age is always relative. (I'm certain that I thought twenty was old when I was a lad of fifteen!) In truth, Ms. Li will almost assuredly become a beautiful seventy-year-old when she reaches that age (you just may have to be eighty to be able to recognize the fact!) At any rate, with beauty being only relative and seemingly fleeting, this much I can say without fear of uncertainty; Gong Li is one of the most captivating actresses of this or any time, her appeal is universal, and her talent is without question among those with an ounce of intelligence.

GONG LI :
She first came into international prominence through close collaboration with Chinese director Zhang Yimou. She has been featured in People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" article, and is an ambassador for L'Oreal cosmetics.
Born on New Year's Eve, 1965, in Shenyang, Liaoning, China, she has appeared in most films directed by Zhang Yimou up until 1995.
She grew up in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province. She knew from a young age that she wanted to be an actress, and at school she excelled at singing and dancing almost to the exclusion of other subjects.
In spite of failing her college exam twice, she was eventually accepted to the Beijing Central College of Drama in 1985 and graduated in 1989.
She was still a student there when Zhang Yimou chose her in 1987 for the lead role in his first film as a director, Red Sorghum, which was awarded the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.
Gong Li has since become one of the most successful actresses in Chinese cinema, with fame that has extended abroad to many areas.
Her work has been recognized with awards from the Venice International Film Festival and New York Film Critics Circle, and she retains a strong popularity.
In addition to acting, she is also an exceptional singer, as demonstrated during her performance in Shanghai Triad. She was also presented the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in June 1998.
She starred in Zhang Yimou's films well into the mid-1990s. During their long collaboration, the two created a scandal for being long-term lovers, despite Zhang's marital status. The duo eventually broke up in 1995, and Gong Li married Singaporean tobacco tycoon Ooi Hoe Soeng the next year.
Gong Li's limited Hollywood appearances include 1997's Chinese Box (Allong side Jeremy Irons), and expanded with 2005's Memoirs of a Geisha( in which she was the best actress together with michelle yeoh),
In Memoirs of a Geisha she spoke English fluently, and she, in the words of Time Magazine film critic Richard Corliss, was "gloriously channeling Bette Davis". She also appears in the recently released film adaptation of Miami Vice.
She is also expected to team up with Zhang Yimou one more time in the upcoming Autumn Remembrance as well as starring in Young Hannibal: Behind the Mask, the prequel to the other three Hannibal Lecter films.
In 2006, Premiere ranked her performance in Farewell My Concubine as the 89th greatest performance of all time.
I met Gong Li in London in July and I have to say she was very nice and very well spoken unlike her co-star Ziyi(whom is very rude with her manager Ling Lucas) , Gong Li is a great ambassador for china and a fantastic actress !! I wish her all the best for the future as it can only get better for her she deserves it !!.
