hey, ive noticed quite a few threads discussing different programmes on TVB-UK so i thought i'll create a thread and talk about TVB in the UK sooo....

1. what do you think of TVB in the UK?
2. Whats your favourite series that has been shown/showing on tvb so far??
3. any favourite documentaries??

anyway feel free to express your opinions on any of the questions or just on TVB-UK itself and im guessing people who have TVB-UK are people who live in the UK.. actually stupid comment nevermind

Im not sure about TVB in other countries such as Canada, America, Australia and so on. I know many other countries have access to TVB but as for TVB in the UK, im quite pleased with it.

We have hella alot of TVB series each day from morning to night (i think theres about 7 on weekdays).

The one thing i love especially is the "Jin Yong/Kam Yong/Louis Cha" weekends. Viewers have the choice to vote for Jin Yong series which they want to watch and they show at least 6 episodes on the weekends (3 on saturday 3 on sunday).

oo yeh iv think ive seen snipets of that series that you mention ^ but i think the show is really old and doesnt really interest me much im loving 'the academy' at the moment its soo funny i love watching it i also like to watch the 9pm programme as well 'strike at heart' as it has my favourite actress charmaine in it

A few months ago, i got pretty annoyed with all the changeovers, but now i'm quite used to it. Thankfully they arent playing commercials as much as before now. Most of the shows i really enjoyed. Like 'Lost in the Chamber of Love' which is showing every weekend and 'The Academy'. I also wach 'Scoop' and sometimes 'Global Rhythm' too. I think my most favourite is 'The Last Breakthrough'

I was really annoyed at the commercials coming on every 10mins during a drama. But now they've changed that which is cool

I think the best thing atm is amount of series they show. Especially love the idea of having the "golden classic" series during the afternoon (3pm) and in the evening (11pm)

Thank god the are broadcasting At the Threshold of an Era again... i needed to rewatch this classic. The current episodes are quite tense now. They needed to broadcast these to balance those "not-so-good" series recently.

i loved 'last breakthrough' too i thought nick cheung was really good in it i thought he made a really good match with sonjia kwok
yeh i like the idea of the 'golden classic' stuff as well but i think the 3pm show is way too old for my liking that stephen chow one has finished and theres a new one on today... 'journey to the west 2' cant wait to watch this

There are alot of chinese ppl in Uk so Havin tvb channel over der is fine. Prob jus like da one we ahve in america.

theres way too many commericals now.. and what is that dfs ad??? its all in english... so funny on a chinese channel.
i love all the celeb gossip stuff like scope

at one point a few months ago they were showing way too much of the medical stuff (chinese medicine where they just sat and talked though different herbs)
but is better now.

oh ive seen that DFS advert too... when i 1st saw it i thought my Sky was on and then it rolled a chinese advert... i think its right weird having that advert

Im glad that during those big gaps between programmes, they play some music videos. Especially when they play the older songs... lol.. yes im OLD

^ aww i also like the music videos and i wouldnt say your that old as i quite like some of the old classics like the other day i heard a really old joey yung music video but i loved it

hey, i live in london but don't have the tvb channel yeh i noticed they were showing a lot of series at the mo especially ATE. i love that series, one of my all time favs.

Yeh im glad they are showing it again... we need the good old series to balance some of the newer crappy series. ATE is very tense at the moment and it brings back memories rewatchin it.

i totally agree with you! I thought i was still watchin an englsih channel when the DFS advert came on. It was so funny. Wonder how they actaully found chinese channel to help them advertise.

Oh, those yoga and herbal thingies annoyed me soo much. Like sometimes, i waste 10 minutes of my time just watching it before the next programme which was what i wanted to watch comes on.

Haha I get what you all mean.... I hope they actually keep the schedule they are using now because they seem to like to change it sometimes... atleast now we are watching 3 series a week we can catch up to the series HK is watching easier....

Other then the series some of the other programmes are good like the programme called 'siu see how' about the two kids...

But I hope they invest on buying better anime because I don't really like what they are putting on... would like some more popular stuff..

the TVB in uk has been better XD
before it was ok... but when they changed it was OMG...
but when they changed again it has been better ... becuase it was many people who complained the new schedule....

TVB -UK/ Europe is quite good in my opinion.. only when they changed everything a few times and all the commercials got me annoyed i remembered a couple of months bk when i was watchin series it use to have commercials 4 TIMES!!! in a 45 minute period that got me annoyed.. and the way they organised tha magazine.. i really liked the old version. does any1 remember back back in the days when they use to tell you what happened in every episode of the films in the magazines? and when it was devilered monthly instead of 2 months?


Another thing thats annoyin me is that there are SOO many series to watch!! lols.. im watchin about 10 @ the moment with all the old time classics aswell everything is jus gr8.. ( I rent current TVb films asweL)

I love the idea of the voting thing aswell for the series you want them to replay
during the weekend slot and whos interview you would like to watch on the saturday morning.

i like the music section aswell (any1 remember a while bk wen they constantly played the "Lau Ho Long" song for like 10 times a day jus cause he was coming to england- dat was annoying everytime the song come up i was like "Not again.." )

Btw.. does any1 think that the Chinese ChanneL is expensive? cause from my concerns alot of my friends rather have the Pheonix channel as its free however i think that the quality of some of their series aint that great also as its in mandarin dat i don't understand..

Hmmm and another good thing is that if you recommend ppl to buy the chinese channel then you get a chance for a ticket for the TVB 39th Anniversary and a banquet along with plane tickets to HK.. dat person who wins it is sure 1 lucky person.. all fans out there what be sooo jealous!!

wow you must watch hell of a lot of TVB programmes if you watch all the ones on TVB plus ones that you rent.... very impressive

yeh that song by lau hoo lung is still being played maybe not a s frequent but it is played an awful lot i cant stand it anymore i used to like it before it got over played

i never knew that the magazines were monthly i think its soo tight how th magazines are for 2 months for the price we pay bar humbug

Er, that anime is showing in Hong Kong right now as well. The cantonese dub is new, but the actual anime is from 2003/2004. Usually takes a year before new japanese anime come to HK...

As for TVB-UK, they're alright but way too many series showing everday I like how they have some shows from Hong Kong's TVB Life channel (which you need to pay in HK to view), especially the 9.30am morning show during the weekdays. I also watch Global Rhythm, and Scoop

Anyone see Raymond Lam as an extra? He was one of the prison guards in Taiwan. I just wanted to point it out because i couldnt stop laughing seeing him as a "ker le fer"

i think tvb chinese channel europe is getting better in a way since they are showing more drama... but then i think they're now showing way too much old series, i like it but i think they're showing too much. instead i think they should show some more korean drama! popular ones like stairway to heaven and jewel in the palace were already shown in hong kong on tvb but they haven't shown it here yet. ..i think my mum would like to watch these kinda series.

and i do think the price is quite high... about £20 per month is quite a lot for just one channel, don't you guys think? u can get like sky premium package or somethinglike that for that same price or less...and u get all thse channels. my mum was thinking of switching to phoenix channel but then they don't show tvb stuff...

about the changes....yeah i got pretty annoyed with it too...they change the times quite often and sometimes i dont' even know when they put something new on...i mean i didn't know when they put those music specials on at weekdays at 6pm... they did stop after the leon lai special didn't they? i thought they did...but then they showed Beyond last friday. 0_o...i quite like thse old music shows actually...they should keep showing more...

i see...so u like the new cpop music these days? i'm more like a fan of the oldies haha. can't stand the new chinese music these days...it has changed so much and in my opinion getting worse these days. i haven't heard a single recent chinese song that is nice or at least catchy ...so i sort of turned to kpop.

Im with u on this. I've been trying to listen to today's stuff and nothing is good. Hate to say it but even veteran singer's new songs sucks. I too prefer the old stuff. But rather than turning to kpop... i turn back to listening and digging back up the old songs.
Thats why i was so happy when they decided to show more old MVs and old shows/music specials around 6

^ awww i really like the recent Cpop as i think its not that bad, listenable, but i dont mind some of the old music stuff but theres a limit to how much there is think. but is your 'old stuff' like old kelly chen MV's?? or is it going back to the songs sung on that sunday show at 7pm??

Well not that old.. although i do enjoy them shows atound 7pm on sundays..... when i mean old.. im talking about Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung times... the 90s times.

^ ooo i get ya the shows on sundays ive gotta admit i have heard of the odd song here and there in movies and stuff plus there are some new singers singing old songs such as the one 2weeks ago i think had wilfred lau in it

I think TVB, UK chinese channel is really good. TVB, UK chinese channel, is way better now a days than it was, about 10 years ago. Favourite series ... one of my favourite series will have to be War and beauty, there are sooo .... many more TVB series, that I like watching and I would like to watch. I better not write them out otherwise I could go on and on and on and on and on and on .... etc ... My favourite TVB gameshow will have to be Super Trio ...

What I have been watching lately, that I find good, interesting ... within the UK TVB chinese channel ... The Zone, On the Road, 15/16 gameshow, be my guest, justice for all Sr 3, Love Contract ... War of In-Laws .. really funny hehehe !!! ... Healing Hands 3, HK connection and repeats like At the Threshold Of An Era, Journey to the west 2, Burning Flame .. etc ..etc ...

Will be showing Land of Wealth soon, which I can't wait to watch .. Will be showing Beautiful Cooking soon, which I can't wait to watch, Will be showing Hong Kong - fireworks Display coming this Sunday. OHHH ...... I wish I could be there, to see and to feel the atmosphere !!

I think TVB Chinese-Channel definately has improved compared to back 6-7 years ago in terms of variety and number of shows broadcasted. They show more dramas and do a lot of re-runs of old classics which I really like. The bad thing is that they don't really put on many of those interesting Japanese or Korean drama on anymore, and those classic gameshows like Movie Buff Championship/Super Trio. They should do re-runs for those! I really miss them.

Well, I was somewhat looking forward to seeing 'The Ultimate Crime Fighter,' but, just when it started to show, my parents decided not to rent Chinese-Channel anymore. So it kinda sucks that I can't see it. I heard it's very good. But it's been a while since I last followed a TVB drama, I think the last one was 'Golden Faith,' which was quite some years back.

I was watching a bit of 'Fathers and Sons' and thought that wasn't so bad, too bad I didn't get to finish it off. It was a pretty decent drama to me. To be honest, I'm not all that into the new dramas since 2003... From then on, I was more into the entertainment news and gameshows more than actual TVB dramas... in fact, I prefer the non-TVB dramas more. I find them different and, I dunno, I guess I just got bored of the same old TVB dramas nowadays, especially with the same cast everytime, and same acting. I prefer the oldies from 90s and 80s. TVB used to have the best melodramas, I swear. I cried like a baby watching some old TVB series.

As for documentaries, I really like 'On the Road.' I find it very meaingful show, and you learn some shocking things about different cultures ...oh, and it can be quite emotional, too. A couple of times, I teared up. There's also this other one called 'It's not easy to be a woman' in Chinese but I'm not sure if the English title is the same. The cases were quite interesting, I rememebr this one about an abusive husband. It was pretty well renacted.

So yeah, that's it. We don't have the channel anymore, for roughly over a month now. I'm starting to miss it so bad.

Ahhh. I didnt know there was a topic on this. But im glad i found it and someone on AF actually has the Chinese-Channel UK TVB Channel thingy.

I love the channel because, it repeats the old series i forgot from years ago or it has documentries about different stuff and each month, or is it? every 2 months i think, the channel sends a TV magazine for us to see whats on. I sometimes like the music videos they put on too.

But sometimes its has these long commericals that goes on for ages when theres a really exciting part you wanna watch in a series. And another bad thing is, the channel TVB series are like a year behind the HK series. So like, HK has already seen what we're watching now. But thats okay sometimes because i can then read spoilers when im really desperate lol.

Currently i just finished watching Men Don't Cry and im still watching TUCF, and just started watching Word Twisters' Adventures too. The old series which is on repeat are, The Legendary Four Aces and Triumph In The Skies. Oh Yeah, i forgot Devil's Disciples too.

Remeber the old times - they usually show movies on Sunday's? lol. What happened to that?! I prefer if they show movies. I still prefer the old series compare to now, even though some recent movies are good, like Heart of Greed! I must say that series was soo good!! The old actors are also better than now: Gallen Lo, Flora Chan, Ada Choi, Felix Wong, Cheung Chilam, Aaron Kwok etc . . .

I don't currently have the Chinese-Channel/TVBS-Europe but was thinking of getting it because of the extra channels.

I thought these extra channels will start broadcasting from 31 March '08? (http://www.chinese-channel.co.uk/en/event_1_info.php?id=116). However from what you guys are saying it sounds like they have already started broadcasting them? if so are they any good? and does the subscription fee remain the same with the extra channels or does it cost more?

I've been researching and it seems like the TVB channels in the US and Australia seem to be of the same price as over here including the extra channels, or maybe the channels work differently, I dunno...

I still think its quite a rip off. :'( I wish Chinese-Channel was cheaper so that my parents can rent it again... I'm going to miss the Movie Buff Championship...so sad!!! Btw, what do you mean it's on Sunday? Are you sure? I checked the times online and its says Friday at 1pm! lol.

I'am very happy with TVB, UK channel . They are doing a very good job .

TVBS-E Life magazine, this magazine arrived this morning, I had a looked and it is all written in中文 (chinese) . I thought there was suppose to be english written in this magazine as well .. but no english has been written in this magazine, I was disappointed .. because my english reading is much better than my chinese reading .. I do have problems reading chinese, my chinese reading is absolutely poor, cmpare to my english reading . Chinese, I can only read very basic letters like ... Water ... Mountain ... Fire .. Wood ... Yun .. I ... They .. Love ..

Now that this magazine is written all in chinese, I'am going to have to guest, what will I be re-cording .. I can't keep on going backwards and forwards to check the TVB UK website because I have to work .. and I know that this website has written chinese and english language, I hope this won't change because I need the english language, I need to check, what I'am recording, what will I be recording .. I do visit this TVB UK website at least once every 2-3 months ... but now that they have changed the magazine language, I will have to go back to visit this website, now and again ..

I have been searching for at least an hour or so, what is this series about 古靈精探 D.I.E. .. I found out eventually and yes I would like to watch this series .. This series only started to show to the public in Hong Kong at least 1 month ago .. and for those of us, who have this TVB UK channel, we will be able to watch this series, after The Master of Tai Chi, at the end of April

Yea i got it thru this morning and i was very confused too. it was so wierd how they missed out all the english and wrote it all in chinese. maybe they forgot? may be we shud email them to let them no that sum of us cnt read chinese because we live in the UK.

the extra tv channels sound rather interesting but I thought they wud hav provded a tv guide in the mag so we actually on wot is gona b on these channels. then we wud no if we wana buy it. suposedly the shows that are on are the same as the channels in HK. at 7 last nite Slim chances was on at the classic channel which made me quite annoyed cos master of Tai chi wasnt on yet and i wanted to watch a series. i was wanting to flip over but realised i didnt have the channels.
however the new channels r too expensive. just an extra fiver and they have a new cable where you can watch HD so the screen shud be a lot clearer. im so glad that they did nt move too many things to the give my five channels. i did like watching the celebrity cooking which has now moved to the lifestyle channel.
however be my guest is still on and i like watching that depending who they interview.

also glad that they didnt move kindred spirit to the classics cos iv been watchign that for the past 2 years nd nw that it is gettin to an exciting part, i dnt really wana miss it.

There is no point in e-mailing them because they will not reply back to you or it will at least take them 3 weeks or so, just to reply back to your e-mail, well, you can try and e-mail them, if you want to, you never know you might be lucky and they will answer you straight back, straight away . I have tryed to e-mail them, but this was about 7 months ago, and what I have said so far, they all happened to me .. It is better if you phone them rather than e-mail to them, if you want to ring them up, that is ..
