Aww you lucky to have ATV channel, don't think we have that in Chicago, Illinois. Would love to have the ATV channel since it's really hard to get ATV shows in the stores and even online.

i'm from Canada. I use Rogers. It doesn't charge a lot for the channel.
It is expensive because the basic cable is a must have.
I think they should have another chinese channel, so they could air more dramas. Also there are too many commercials, especially during the dramas.

I'm from Canada too and I use Shaw! Ya I think it's worth it. Before a lotta ppl used Bell Express but then not a lotta ppl use it now because u have to put that big plate thing on ur rooftop so when it's like raining or something it'll mess it up.

Yeah I get Fairchild, its like the only full chinese channel you can get in Ontario. Plus it costs a ton to actually get the "asian" package even though my family only watches fairchild. This is on Expressvu.
Heh, yeah the person who mentioned rain, its ANNOYING, sometimes it can be raining and overcast so much and the dish will work fine, but sometimes its just the slightest amount of cloud and boom, no tv. >.>

sh*t man US n Canada is sh*t cant believe u guys are dat behind
even though i dont have tvbj or those jadeworld in australia but i rent tapes so its mostly ahead of even hk in watching the new series
but i also no dat the series here aint dat old, its like only a few episodes behind tvb in hk.
Okay, we're not that behind. It's not a completely TVB channel. Sure, we can choose to watch that and we're updated on new series as well. We have lot of places to rent tapes & DVD and it keeps up with HK. It's just a channel on tv that we're talking about. And I'm from Canada when I say this because I want to defend all the Canadians/Americans as well. Just because our channel's behind (obviously we're not going to get the most updated series aired on TV), but we do have places to rent tapes from new to old series.
And I really don't think we would be behind Australia in terms of series, just so you know.

I get Fairchild TV too... it's because it's the only Chinese channel that you can really get in Canada & it's about the only thing that my parents watch. The series are kinda old though, I hate it when I've seen a series already and they air it 2 years later, or when I have to wait at least a year to see new series...
But it's okay, it's better than nothing

I have Bell ExpressVu though so when it rains or even when it's a little windy the satellite doesn't work, which is a little annoying to say the least.

Ah what's the point of showing HK commercials in Canada, those commercial are to make money for the station. First fairchild is a canadian channel and required by it's license to show a certain amount of Canadian content (and certain amount of non-TVB programing too) , second it's good to see some shows with local channels it's makes the channel of comfortable(compare it to US Jadeworld where it's and hour of local news mixed in with straight TVB). Jade Solid Gold ratings suck that's why it's a half show in Hong Kong, it's not really popular in Hong Kong and isn't popular in Canada, I wouldn't mind if they dump show.

It's because TVB serial rentals are profitable enough that it's desriable to delay selling of the rights to the shows. That's why in North America shows come up a bit late while in I believe Australia/New Zealand they pretty much followed TVB with a small delay.

In San Francisco, we have the Jade channel via cable with Comcast. I have the option to get ATV with Dish Network or Jadeworld (2 TVB channels) with Directv satellite. Comcast charges about $26 which includes TVB and very basic cable. Directv charges $36.99 for Jadeworld and 3 other channels only. You're lucky...FairchildTV is free in Canada. They started showing Love Bond last week...one of my favorite series....so it's not that far behind.

well fairchild tv have different programs
first of the news is the very best local chinese news comapre with OMNI, they even have chinese subtitle in the news too, in the morning, there's have tvb live news via satillete, secondly not just show drama, they have some news magazine, documetry, local programs, and many more. also korean drama, atv drama and 10% of cable tv shows which show on fairchild tv as well
but i the thing i am waiting is ATV HOME AMERICA because they have the most updated hong kong news, they got morning, afternoon, evening, and late night live hong kong atv news, and also cable tv got the most updated program such as from the cable news and cable enterimanet channel programs
what do u guys expect these two new chinese channels
by the way u think in the future FAIRCHILD wil llower the rate from $14.95 to $10.95 or become a pick and pay package like $2.49? and also u think they will make the tvb drama will lower the window period showing time from one year to 4 to 6 months
the best local program i like at this moment are local news, timeline magazine and what's on
how about u guys, what's your opinon about the future chinese programs in canada

yah I have to agree that FC news is better than omni. but it's still the same news. they might not have everything but that can be found in the newspapers or online.
I know they don't only show dramas. wat I'm saying is that these other variety shows can be dled and watched even before they air it on tv. i.e. the show that Dodo hosts, "bat fat bat jung", I've already watched every episode before they even started airing it here. and like twohearts88 said, they cut parts out of tv programs. I rmbr watching JSG and they stopped it when it was just half done. they stopped the show without even finishing the countdown! I think if they're going to cut it short they should at least have the full countdown so it's not as apparent.
as a Torontonian, I like the octopus show, "ying mok 8 jau yu", from it's earlier years. it had more interesting things to show. as time went on, I just watched it for celebrities when they came over. now, I don't even put the effort into watching it. I think Fairchild should come up with better local shows. sth interesting and filmed in Toronto. instead of just broadcasting shows taped in Van and airing it here and vice versa.
btw, is anyone going ot the Wonderland show?

their series aren't THAT old now, they show ones from last year instead of like two years back
I dont' really watch that channel because I don't like watching old shows but my parents do

Really we can get TVB on demand on?! Tell me all of the packages that we can get with TVB and what company has these packages. (For example, TVB drama channel on Rogers or something like that). Also, do anyone know if Rogers or Bell Express Vu will offer the TVB PayVisions 24hr Entertainment News Channel and packages with TVB PayVision programs and shows?
My family suscribes to Fairchildtv as well through Bell Express Vu because it's the Chinese tv in Canada that we can watch. It really does suck when it rains and thunders! Sometimes snow, wind, and cloudiness affects the satellite dish! A satellite installation and repair personel once told us that it's better for us to have the dish instead of cable because cable gives a weaker picture because the signals have been divided up so much before it reaches the tv in the house. Is this true? He also said that trees affect the satellite signals, but trees don't affect us, so it's better to have satellite. He also said that people who use satellites should have a powerbar protector that can take the impact of lightning if it strikes on the dish because it can fry the receiver and cause a fire. I don't know if you call this device a power bar protector, but does anyone know what I'm talking about? If yes, do you use it?
my parents love fairchild tv. we ordered it through shaw cable. ever since they got it two years ago, they watch it non stop. i watch it just for the jade solid gold and for the concerts they sometimes air. i'm not really into the dramas and stuff...i find the acting a little bleh...news i'll watch sometimes...the comedies are kinda funny though...
but if we had the chance to watch tvb, i'm sure my parents would be jumping all over it.
there's also channel 126 for like mainland programming and korean stuff too.
fairchild tv really is the ONLY chinese channel to watch in Canada.

Hey All
I am from Canada and I get FairChild Toronto and Vancouver via Rogers Digital Cable. This weej, the 8:00 PM show, Just Love had just ended and next week will be Gateau Affairs. At the 9 PM slot, we have The Academy.
For users with Rogers Digital Cable, go to channel 90 or 600 to view Omni on Demand where we can view the latest TVB series in our own homes without renting DVDs. They are currenty having 3 trial episodes per series and this includes: Always Ready, Real Kung Fu and etc.

I have some questions about Fairchild...
1) Are the TVB dramas aired in the same order as they did in Hong Kong?
2) Does anyone know what shows will be lined up on Fairchild (after Gateau Affairs and The Academy)?
Queena
Aug 14 2006 10 31 PM
No. They're not aired in the same order. Often, something comes out a lot earlier (sometimes a year) and then it airs on Fairchild. I'm not sure what comes out after The Academy and Gateau Affairs but I think you can see upcoming series in a magazine that comes with a local chinese paper. I'm not sure which one but my mom gets it. That's basically how I know.
I'm not sure if this is provided by OMNI but I use Rogers and they have this channel (600 or something) that you can watch some relatively newer series (Life Made Simple and Always Ready.) They're not all that current but at least they haven't aired yet on Fairchild.
All that said, I STILL think it's cheaper to rent. I guess if the nearest place is really far away, that may not be such a great option. There's a place practically across the street from me so that's where I mainly watch. Fairchild gets kind of old after you've tried renting. I also watched Gateau Affairs and The Academy a loooooong time ago. That's why we cancled Fairchild for a while. If there's something that's REALLY good, I'll ask friends to tape it for me. They have no idea what they're taping (since most of my frds aren't chinese) but at least they're willing to do it. XD My frds rock. XP

so-conf00zed has already answered your questions, but I'd just like to say that Yummy Yummy: Food for Life will be airing after The Academy. I'm not sure what series is going to be shown after the Gateau Affairs.. but I have the PLEM magazine which shows upcoming series for 2006 and some of the series were RDOV, Healing Hands III, WOIL, and some other ones that I can't remember right now.
