Liu Yi Fei can look so mature and yet so attractively cute. When she's like 28 she's probably still going to look 20, her face is so clear. In Demi Gods or something she looks so mature and in Fairy Sword which she filmed after that she looks 16!

Many people really don't like that LYF got the part for Xiao Long Nu. Most of them say either she's not good enough or too young.

I don't know how they say she's not good enough when they haven't even watch the series.

Well, LYF is planning on becoming an international artist so the best method is Japan.

Vivian Hsu attemped fame in Taiwan/HK but failed so therefore she resorted in Japan but hopefully LYF will not end up like Vivian though....because we all know what type of artist Vivian once was. I realized people tend to think that way because they're used to actresses that much older than her. If you look at the actresses today and compare it with 80s & 90s...the actresses are much older than the actresses now. Trust me on this...people will not respect her since she's really young and getting big roles.

Many and I mean Many actresses didn't want to be Xiao Long Nu because they're afraid of criticism from people. LYF took the chance and you see the result. It's up to her now to step up and show everyone that she's a good actress.

I found an article. This is what Huang Xiao Ming said about Crystal Liu.

Those who have met Crystal agree that she has many aspects similar to that of XLN. Perhaps it's because of how her living conditions and experience (or in her case, no experience) are different from the rest of the other actors/actresses from mainland. She has this "untainted" or "untinted" disposition-- away from the smokes and fire of life, and this is something that an actor cannot perform because it only comes with their (natural) self. She does try really hard to portray her role as XLN. Little by little, Crystal had connected with me and we cooperated very well together. I believe that an actor shouldn't be critical and be comparing age differences. When we're filming, I put all that matters aside. On the first day when I came to the set, I had to act out the part where YG confessed his love to XLN. Everyone did not laugh, we all went into our roles in a strictly manner, and we were quickly approved by the director.

Number one mistake for any new actress that is actually absorbing as much starlight as the older generation ones like Ruby, Vicki, and Alyssa is starring in a serial or movie with them.

1. Ruby&Vicki etc. have a large fan database. No fans want to see their idol yield to a so called inexperienced actress like LYF. At the moment, I think LYF is almost as popular as Ruby&Vicki and she has a lot of advantages due to her good important roles, highly recognized serials and directors that are really promoting her. So a lot of chaotic competition and comparing is going to occur. Too much bashing involved.

2. An actress should never depend on another actress to boost up her career except for TWINS&S.H.E. but instead lean on male co-stars who could elevate her popularity like Vic Zhou. Because to be honest, Barbie (Da S), I didn't even know she existed nor part of ASOS until Meteor Garden and so far the only successful popular dramas that have carried her to her spot today are the ones with Vic.

3. LYF still has a way to go in order to establish a strong fanbase, currently she's not in a position right now to be as the main lead if she was to star with the older generation actresses. So there would be no point in watching LYF as a supporting actress and if she's a supporting actress in one then she might be stuck in that pattern. LYF is famous but not quite there yet to officially challenge other actresses because right now it's all still too soon to determine where her career is heading....she could be an actress where the audience may love her now but possibly due to other newcomers or other factors...her popularity may not even last. So starring with bigger names is sort of a negative side effect.

Ady was a supporting actress to LYF who was more of a newcomer than her technically...so there is no surprise why Ady is again playing next to those bigger name actresses.

But the audience is always changing along with the favoritism of directors.....so it really depends. But personally LYF should just keep away from other famous actresses until she has a stable ground to stand on.

But one good advantage is: the internet. News, dramas, pictures..etc rapidly spread like crazy online. That is one advantage new actresses have today versus actresses like Ruby, Vicki..etc. who began their careers in a slow process. That is why LYF is gaining popularity quite quickly compared to rest is not because she is the ultimate best actress/newcomer like a lot of fans would love to believe, but it's really due to the fact of QUICK ACCESS.

LYF is cute and pure. But most actresses can only keep this image for a while and then they change. I like her the way she is currently but don't know how much change her singing debut will bring.

Well, let's just say LYF is a steadfast hard worker. I admire her strength especially through all of these criticisms but really can't blame people for believing the way they do though because these people were probably supporting some other actress that didn't make the cut.

And I've read some opinions and assumptions regarding her opportunities with the big roles. Some state that she has some BIG connections to support her which is part of the equation because politics does play a huge role in the ET industry but we wouldn't know either.

I mean, it's just realistic to consider but not completely believe especially with recent news about Michelle Reis and the whole issue of old men suitors and also issues such as these were debated about EEG artists etc. And a lot of things happen behind cameras and doors we as the public would never know...these issues are unspoken. And think about it, if you guys who are just commoners are already head over heels over LYF and that is just through the television set....think about all of the old folks who have seen her real beauty. And don't misunderstand that I'm trying to degrade her any way but I'm just trying to inform you guys out there that not a lot of things we see are true.

The ET world is corrupted, dirty, and scary...all of us should know that by now and especially in a Man dominated society like Asian countries..there are no guarantees what could happen.

But either way....I enjoy watching LYF so I'll still support her regardless.

I do agree with you but the bashing already started. I do still think she's good enough to be XLN but most people are comparing her to Carmen and Idy. Plus, I believe the people who criticize her roles as XLN are hardcore fan of Carmen/Idy's. I don't think it's fair to compare her to those actresses.

It seem as if LYF is following Carmen/Idy's roles. Carmen/Idy was in TLBB, ROCH, & HSDS. I want to see her in HSDS but she'll be compare to other actresses such Carmen/Idy/Gigi Lai/Alyssa Chia...maybe she should star in a smaller role. IMO, she should say "F@ck all of you! I'm going to this!" Maybe she said that when auditioning for ROCH. LoL I heard that Gao Yuan Yuan turned this role down because of criticism too.

You know what is really bugging me?? All of these remakes!!!

One of the most important reasons as to why Fairy&Sword was quite successful was due to its originality. Of course its story is from a book and some versions...but still Fairy&Sword wasn't already sooo repeatedly ingrained in the audience's minds.

Hopefully, LYF will not participate in another remake but perhaps a whole new serial that will attract due to curiousity, suspense, and hasn't been biased yet.

IMO, I dont mind the remakes. People know the storyline for the series will be good. That's probably reason why people don't mind watching it over again. ROCH2005 haven't been release yet...but look at the anticipation from fans. It is the most wanted series right now. This forum isn't a big fan of ROCH or maybe it's too hard to find the thread. In other forums, it's the most view and talk about thread. I agree that LYF shouldn't do another Jin Yong's series.

Chinese Paladin/Tian Long Ba Bu...for a girl her age...she did a lot of nude scene(even though she didn't show anything) *Damn* She didn't hestitate to do so...what's really funny is her mother. Her mother is always by her side during filming. LYF's mother would sign the authorization for approval for the film to do a nude scene. I guess her mother have a lot faith in her. I know LYF is not doing it for the money because she's filthy rich!

Well, ROCH is different though. It's been almost close to ten years excluding the one Fann Wong and Chris Lee did in 1998 because rarely does anyone ever mention that version. That is why people are anticipating. But like HSDS...ahh, TVB made one in 2000, then ATV in 2003 and now predicting 2006!!! Too close in range.

Well, just because some actresses are labeled as POPULAR doesn't always mean that they have good connections. Popular/big time actresses only has the consent of the public but not the directors and producers. And directors are actually the ones who determine who gets which role. If the public polls were counted in voting who should be the next XLN, LYF would had never won. LYF is rich accordingly to her uncle so maybe that's one of her major connections. See Jin Yong already reserved the spot for LYF because he personally thought that she was the best suited but that's not the same case for the public.

These are the words of the director Vu Man:

XLN has to be naked while peforming Yu Nu Xin Jung according to the story. So that's what we'll do. However, we will use special lighting effects in order to show the character performing the "dance" in a very elegant and mysterious way. Also, Crystal cannot be naked while filming this scene because she is still too young. Even the contract clearly states that she won't be doing that. We will find another person to substitute for her.....

The first time I went auditioning for the role of XLN, the director requested that I soothe HXM, play with him as if he was a little boy or brother. When we came on the set, the cameras started rolling, and HXM and I were automatically into our roles. Also, YG from a little boy to a big grownup was performed by two different (aged) actors. That made things simpler for me to distinguish between the two (little YG and big YG). HXM was very serious in handling his role, and he supported and guided me which gave me more confidence.

Wow, this is the first remake that actually did a naked scene. LYF's double had to really get naked. They're really pushing this to the limit. I think it's a good thing because they're actually following the storyline.

Yeah, but I mean they have cameras now to manipulate those angles....why couldn't they really use LYF but just not completely nude? Or if LYF didn't want to do the scene they should had changed it a bit. Not all serials go accordingly. Too much kissing is being performed in these serials lately. Not specifically refering to this one but other serials. And there really is no point of using a real nude person even if she's not LYF for a simple scene. It's quite um too much for me but I guess it should be fine.

Director Vu Man said that HXM and LYF works really hard on their acting. Here's another interview with Vu Man. TLBB is the most popular among other Jin Yong's series. However, the director said he has confidence. Let's hope so.

I: How will you show the characteristics of this adaptation compared to the previous ones?

VM: ROCH agrees with my style or taste - the ideals of romance. In addition, choosing the right sceneries & landscapes, and using advancements in technology are all very important.

I: ROCH version of HK is a timeless success. While filming this version, besides new features and aspects, what do you think is the most difficult obstacle?

VM: The most difficult obstacle is to overcome the age difference between HXM and LYF, which is the opposite of the main characters in the story. Even with age or in front of the camera, HXM still looks skilled or experienced. Because of that, we must stay focused (in keeping with the story) and help our actor in portraying his role to the best of his ability.
Also, LYF is still very young. Her thoughts are still very pure or simple-minded. There are a number of scenes that worries me. For example, we are getting ready to act out the part where [the monk] rapes XLN; this is a very important scene. These scenes--heavy on expressing sexual thoughts and actions-- are very complicated to [successfully] act out. LYF has never had any experience with this type of situation before, but she tries really hard to follow our directions and guidance.

I: If you feel that it is difficult, then why did you still choose HXM and LYF to take on these roles as the “Condor Heroes”?

VM: Many actors of Mainland China don’t carry the scoundrel (“bad egg”) characteristic that HXM does have. He was able to cause a breakthrough in his performance. When I saw him in “Always Happy Hero”, his face and everything were still very pale. But because he wanted to take on the role of YG, he tanned himself for half a year in order to get the look he has today. Also, there is this dimple on the side of his cheek when he smiles that demonstrates YG’s cuteness and playfulness. LYF also loves her work and profession.

I: Normally, all of ZJZ’s adaptations are criticized or belittled except Tian Long Ba Bu. Do you have any confidence that ROCH will even surpass TLBB’s fame and popularity?

VM: I believe that ROCH will not be criticized or belittled. Back then, ZJZ was unsuccessful because he had chosen the wrong director unsuitable of making a qualified martial arts series. We have build this entire series with the hope that if it’s good, then it needs to be better. However, in order to surpass TLBB, it would be time-consuming and that we would really have to put in a lot of effort. TLBB was successful because of Ho Jun, Chen Hao, etc. Meanwhile, the cast of ROCH are still fresh and new, and the audience has high demands. We will do our very best.
