I found some info on the age thing.
"When someone is born, he is automatically 1 year old. Due to this, in Korean age we are always one year older than our "actual" age.
Also, anyone born before March is considered to be in the previous year (for instance, someone born in January 1987 will be considered to be from 1986) because the school new year starts on March 1st in Korea.
