does this equation make any sense to you?
good look + youth = (good ratings + attracting advertisers' pocket) * big money
since when a tv station cares about the person itself? yes, they care about the package, but definitely more on how much their year end profits look like in the balance sheet. all artistes are just one commodity, same as the audience, just like artistes look upon the station as the fortune wheel, just a matter of how well it is being spun.
entertainment. competitive industry. unscrupulous tactics. survival.
Yeah, I understand that a huge part about this is probably about money, but I thought it was surprising that they plan to hire a Taiwanese idol now. There were other popular good looking Taiwanese idols that were popular before, why not hire them before but now?

yes i have to agree its to earn money and its to also like expand a bit to taiwan i think?
i guess its cause u see lots of taiwan series being so successful and being watched by hong kong people so i guess there is potential for like tvb to further step into the taiwanese market? and have more like series that appeal to mandarin people and start off by getting some taiwanese stars?
and yeah i have to say mike he is extremely popular and hes very hot and so yeah he appeals... hes got a huge fanbase.. it would earn tvb alot of money
Hmm…that is interesting…. TVB stepping into the Taiwanese market with their dramas. Since they are sort of successful in China, it is reasonable they might want to broaden their path in Taiwan….though they will have more competition there…..and dare I say, though I think TVB is afraid of competition lol. After all, they did try to step in to Thailand and Singapore (Split Second, Yummy Yummy), and probably Philippines (I think with casin0 Crisis…unsure). It makes me wonder whether TVB is going to attempt idol type of series like Heart of Fencing/Sunshine Heartbeat as well as other manga/anime based dramas or are they going to stick to more realistic dramas if that happens.

truthfully, i had no idea who mike he was until news came out that tvb was signing with him and i really don't see him as a threat to the other male artists
I don’t know who Mike He is either (like how he looks and how he acts, etc), but I know he was in a popular Taiwanese idol drama. So it jumped out when the news say TVB plans to/ or already signed with him lol.
I think TVB fans would feel that he isn’t a threat, but is it possible that Mike He is more well-known compared with Ray, Ron, Bosco., etc? I’m talking about popularity-wise. If the spotlight is always focused on Mike, and it probably will be, then how would it affect the younger generation of actors? Would they be more discouraged and ponder on the prospects of leaving?
