Today, September 12 is the birthday anniversary of the late Hong Kong singer and actor Leslie Cheung.

Fans gathered at the Madam Tussaud's Waxworks in Hong Kong for a memorial ceremony, during which exquisite paper cuttings of the Hong Kong singing legend were unveiled.

The event is co-sponsored by the China Paper-cutting Arts Association. A renowned paper-cut artist plans to produce over 200 works based on Leslie Cheung's 1993 Palme d'Or film, Farewell My Concubine.

Leslie Cheung, a legend in Hong Kong's entertainment circle, committed suicide last year.

i remember when i was young i always listened to his cassette tape. i loved his voice, sooo beautiful. i was heartbroken when i first heard about his suicide. he is so talented! just couldnt believe that he would leave us so fast. RIP leslie.

Yesterday I finished watching Farewell My Concubine. Amazing movie!! Very cruel world. And Leslie and Gong Li' characters were really interesting and well acted.

He was suffering from depression

This is different with what i watched on entertainment news, on Dong Feng n Phoenix...
I saw it right after the suicide attempt. That time said he died right after, not in the hospital (DOA).
The note said (in chinese). Depression, this year has beed hard for me. He wrote depression in capital letter with !!!!!
I was really surprised with the news, remembering that he really wanted things to be beautiful including his body not to be ruined but then he choosed to commit suicide by Tiao Lou

I was sooooo shocked by the news...it shattered my heart He was such a cute and wonderful guy both inside and outside.

I don't know if you heard/seen all four Heavenly Kings singing that song from the Better Tomorrow (I don't know it's title). None of them sang it as Leslie did, none of them was as good, Jacky and Andy were worse, Aaron and Ming were a little better, but still...

Yeah, I saw the 4 heavenly kings singing Leslie's song. Jacky and Andy are close friends with Leslie. They were very sad that they didn't do quite as well as Leon and Aaron. The song from A Better Tomorrow is called Love from the Past. I like the song very much!

Andy was the worst probably, he was singing his own way and it didn't suit this song definitely.

Leslie and Andy definitely have different styles in singing, but I think their earlier works were similar in some ways.

I think you missed the point here. Andy did shoot Leslie, because he HAD too (to protect himself). BUT he was supposed to KILL Leslie, while he didn't want to, since Leslie used to be/still was his friend. Leslie wasn't killed, because Andy protected him. But to others it looked like Leslie was killed, so Andy saved his face.

And Andy was killed because the assassin thought Leslie was dead, while he wasn't. Andy was killed unfairly for something he didn't do.

Why surprised??? Of course there are! Many too!!


Btw, Shoto is absolutely right about the ending of Shanghai Grand.

Leslie wanted Andy to shoot him because he didn't keep his promise (taking care of Fung Jing Jing). Andy let Leslie go because they are best friends.

It still saddens me when I think about my favorite star - Leslie Cheung. I can't believe that he's gone. As April 1st approaches I know I will like all his fans think of him and remember how much joy and beauty he brought to this world.

His music and many movies he made are still loved and enjoyed to this day. He is to me still THE best entertainer on stage.
