Which old man? If you're talking about the Chief, Yagami Souichiro, then yes, he IS Light's father.

Also, Watari is NOT a butler. He is the man who raised L. But that isn't stated in the movie. You have to read the manga / watch the anime to find out.

I really liked these movies, although I think Death Note 1 was better than Death Note 2.

I thought Death Note 1 has more excitement than Death Note 2. Good thing about the second part is that some characters developed more, like Misa.

I found it a bit weird that she is in love with Light, even without knowing much of him actually. She's really devoted to him.

* To be honest, I hoped that Light would win, but both L and Light ended up dead.

at 1st, my friend was like death note is a really good movie and she kept telling me to watch it. but i wasn't too interested in the story, plus i knew the movie would have a 2nd part, so i just waited.....but once i watched the 1st movie, i understood how great of a movie it was. kinda wished i watched movie sooner, but at least when i watched it, i have the 2nd part too. so i watch both death note and the last name in one day. so good now i'm interested to read the manga n watch the anime too!

the manga is super long. and there's too many words.
but, i long expected it as, these kind of mystery mystery manga is like that one.

There is a second movie of death note. But i must warn you though, i thought it was a real dissapointment. First i really wanted to watch it because the first movie was so good. However after finishing the sequal i thought it was not good at all. The ending was bad, i had bad endings, that always make me think it was a waste of time following the movie. Anyway i still keep following the anime though.

i haven't read the manga or watched the anime, but i love the death note movie.

it's kind of expected that light would start abusing his powers with the book, but i didn't expect he would kill his girlfriend to eliminate the enemy.

my favorite character is definately L. i've watched matsuyama ken'ichi before, but he never stood out as much as he did in this movie.

i don't usually enjoy long movies, but this is the special exception. i loved every minute of death note: the last name. the ending gets pretty suspenseful, and i'm glad it turns out the way it did (expect for the part in the spoiler.

death note is just too good, too bad L died hes probably one of the best character.

L himself wrote his name in the notebook, and he wrote "dies peacefully because of heart failure in 23 days", once something is written in the notebook, it's unchangeable, so therefore, L gave up his life to capture Kira and Light wont be able to kill him even if he writes L's real name in the notebook cus its already written in there, and L wont have to die in pain, hope that makes sense lol...

in the movies, L is portrayed as a winner between the two, since he planned out the trap that caught light as kira. sadly, it is different in the anime.

death note the movie was amazingly done! for the most part it stays very close to the manga and keeps true to the general feel of death note. the characters are wonderfully and are perfectly portrayed! ryuk is outstanding and rather entertaining to watch, especially when he goes into apple withdrawal's.

Liked the 2nd movie much more than the 1st movie. Now watching the anime n looking fwd to L's movie.

i have watched the anime series before i watched the movie..its really awesome... i really liked the prtrayal of matsuyama kenichi as L...^__^

watari is like his assistant, helping L doing stuff or finding for information. he IS NOT a butler. he's like the middleman between L and the police force who are going against Kira.

the second movie is a major disappointment for me. i love the first movie better. the ending for the second movie is just stupid .

but it's a sad thing that L died in the manga. i have to agree that the whole manga practically gone boring once L died. it's not exciting anymore. it's like the mangaka just wanted to end the whole story quickly with nothing really interesting happening. it became so predictable it's no fun at all.

I have watch DT 1&2 and I love this.

Light just make me dislike him more and more when the movie goes on. I thought Light use the Note book just to kill the criminal and I thought all he want was peace, but I was wrong!!! He is just a murder and a person with a cold heart!!!!

trust me, the movie is a huge DISAPPOINTMENT for a manga reader&anime fan of death note like me. dun even bother watching this movie unless u really2 have nothing else to do or ur bored to death. even if ur bored, dun watch this as it will make u feel even more bored and will lullaby u to sleep.
so why am i insisting on the terriblity (it’s not a word,i know) of this movie? simple: 1)terrible plot (jump here and there) 2)terrible actor (jus dull acting, not suite with the characters) 3)it’s jus so terrible compared to the anime&manga
i admit, i love love love death note animeee sooo much…although first episode quite bored, but after meeting L and all, the story is good…It’s great. the plot, the mystery, the complication, everything is just so great. it’s quite addictive. i’m hook with the anime very much. I love the main characters,light and L. they are freaking brilliant + genius, + a lil’ bit evil.. hehe.. coz i can’t wait the anime to ends, i finished reading the manga to know the ending..haha…and it really brings satisfaction till the end.
HOWEVER, the movie dissapoints me very much, both the first and the sequel (the last name). the plot, the story was not explained properly, it’s as if they want to stuff everything inside in that 2 hours, so, the movie was not so clear. even why light is targeted as kira happens all of the sudden, it’s not portrayed clearly, the plot is a messed.
the actor who plays the role light, don’t have the light attitude that much, as if he…i don’t know, but to me he’s quite unappropriate for the light role. The actor who plays the role L, doesn’t help that much either. sometimes how he deduce the solution happens all of the sudden. the evidence, what makes him makes the choice is not clear. i felt as if both actors don’t potray the character attitude fully. they don’t feel it. i fall in love totally with light in the anime&manga, but the movie’s light makes me wanna slap him. ugh…
To me, the anime is great, but the movie is such a huge dissapointment. so overall, i would mostly recommend people to watch the anime first, then only the movie (if u really want to watch it), for greater satisfaction.

Although I have to admit L scared me with the sugar rush thing he has going.
I don't think that actor will have any more sweets from now on.

I was a little disapointed when I watched the movie. Maybe you should watch the movie first and then see the anime version of it. I did the opposite.
The movie is way too lame and not interesting at all.
About the characters. The only one I like in the movie was N. Killer is supposed to be handsome and the Killer in the movie is not (my oppinion only).
in conclusion it's not a recommended movie from me. The anime is waaay better.
