The first guy, Richard Guttierez, is pretty hot. But I don't get why they are being compared to all these super famous Korean actors...

They look nothing alike. They must be some similarities between the 2 being compared for there to be a comparison right? But in terms of what? You say Richard G. is the most popular in Filipino, but I wouldn't say Song Seung Hun is the most popular right now in Korea. So why are they being compared?

being a filipino myself......i have to say that our local actors cannot be compared with korean actors and actresses.....i love the philippines....and am very much patiotic when it comes to my country.....but let's be real here,,,,,koreans are a different league from us, in terms of movies, tv dramas, music, and yeah, their actors and actresses...koreans can act better than us and are better looking too...i'm sorry, but that's the truth...the reason why our entertainment industry is not prospering is because we make bad films and are lagging behind in technology. i don't think i'll live to see the day that philippine films will be exported and shown in the whole of asia(let's not even mention the U.S.)
I do agree that Korea makes better movies and television shows, but i completely disagree in terms of Korea having better looking actors. The two have completely different looks and depedns which "look" you prefer. Even though Korean actresses look beautiful, I still think Filipina actresses and models are absolutely gorgeous and stunning. For example Iya Villania and Georgina Wilson. They tend to be more exotic. The Philippines also produces some of the most beautiful models in the world. Anna Bayle, for example was considered to the "First Asian Supermodel" back in the day and just last year for Ford's Supermodel of the World Competition Charro, from the Philippines ranked third. So interms of beauty, you can't compare the two. They're COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

Living in the US for many years, working with Japanese, surrounded by Cantonese Chinese and Koreans. More importantly, born as a Filipina.
Philippines has been influenced "conquered" by Spanish, Japanese, Americans and highly sensitized culturally by Chinese [Fukien/Mandarin] that its definition of male beauty is uncomparable.
Ive seen quite a number of Korean dramas and I have to admit even their actors went through the knife. It seems like facial modification is a norm in Korea.
In the Philippines, its taboo to 'renovate' your face. You have to achieve a talent like Regine Velasquez, Asia's song bird, to get away with it.
Filipinos has a penchant/liking for hispanic-Asian face. Why do you think Spanish actors and actresses were famous there.
When it comes of beauty perspective, each has their own strong points.
In the world-beauty aspect, Id give the crown to Filipinos. Filipinos' Asian-Hispanic features is highly marketable in the US/Europe/Asia. Pure Asian beauty in the US is quite reserved for the liking of Ancient Martial arts or Jacky Chan.
When it comes to talent, both has their market. Like what I just mentioned---Filipinos are highly influenced by Spanish and Asian. Its just now that im seeing a break from Latino shows (sigh of relief).
You should try watching Spanish shows like La Usurpadora, Rosalinda, Maria Mercedes, etc.... You'll know what Im taking about.

You can't really compare the media of different countries like that.
Economy plays a large role.
You can see the trend of Korean economy growth (rise of Samsung, LG...) that goes with the increase of influence of Korean media.
I mean, seriously. Did you ever hear about Korean dramas or music back in the early 90s?
Better economy = more funding to media corporations = larger national attention = increase in actor pool = brighter stars.
Create a large boost in the Phillipines media funding and you'd probably see something comparable.... (Example in Korea being Shiri and My Sassy Girl)
But at the moment, it really isn't fair to compare the Phillipines to somewhere so centered on the media.
I am a Filipino and I believe that like their Korean counterparts, we have also good looking performers with great acting abilities. However, star system prevails here. Unlike Korean producers who are into experimenting new storylines with set of new stars. In the Philippines, only those popular actors, as well as actresses, are given the top leads or else the station when it's gonna be aired, will suffer from low rating. Richard Gutierrez, Dingdong Dantes and their counterparts, Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd get the biggest role everytime a new series is to be produced shown, because they are considered the most popular actors in our country today.

Why is there a post about "economics" here?
It is not my intention to sound rude. Please dont miscontrue this reply.
Economics may elevate technological video options for the entertainment industry, but it does not necessitate to worldwide adoption. There are many factors involved here.
Look into Japan. It is the 2nd global power in the world with more than a trillion dollar GDP, but their movie/series industry is something yet to be appeasing for the public.
Though numerous mangas or comic books have been delivered by Koreans and Chinese in their mini-series, they deemed to be a bit of less advantage when it comes to real-people rendered stories.
Take for example--- Hana Yori Dango (comics) is the counterpart of F4's Meteor Garden. You should watch the Japanese version of Meteor Garden, titled Hana Yori Dango. It was stale compared to Taiwan's version.
Again I would like to stress that a country's popularity in their entertainment industry involves more than economics. We have to consider cultural and policy/regulatory support proves a plus.

Oct 31 2006 12 41 AM
Economics plays a huge role.
You can't compare single series such as Meteor Garden. You have to look at it as a whole.
Is the Japanese entertainment business much bigger and popular than any other asian countries' media sector?
You betcha.
Let's look at Manga as a whole. Do you see any other country making large ground on sending it international? I don't think so. You don't see as many Taiwanese or Chinese or Korean manga as Japanese manga on the US market.
In fact, let's look at anime as a whole as well. Do you see any other anime imported onto US tv aside from Japanese anime?
The Japanese rendition of Meteor Garden may be stale, but that doesn't stop the fact that the Japanese still have larger stars that are funded more because of a better economy, thus allowing them to tour the US more.
Why do you think that asian actors and pop stars from other countries aspire to try and get a stage in Japan?
In essence, yes, economics plays a HUGE role in a country's popularity in the entertainment industry because the larger the economy of a country, the greater the amount of money that ends up in their entertainment sector, which allows for wider scouting and more advertising.
Economy doesn't only play in funding of technology. It plays in the funding of everything.
I'm not sure if you've been to Asia, but at the moment, Japan is quite big in the entertainment business of Asia as a whole.

In terms of facial attributes, is there anyone who will agree with me that Kim Eugene has similarities with Sandara Park?
P.S. Despite Sandara's nationality, she's still considered as a Filipino artist, right?

Dingdong Dantes; Blockbuster King?! Where in this world did you get that idea? If I'm not mistaking, Aga Muhlach is the Blockbuster King because he won so many awards in movie with Claudine Baretto, who is also the Blockbuster Queen. You must be making this stuff, where did you base those stuff, It's really indeed so unbelievable!!!
About Sandara Park-Eugene Kim comparison, well, maybe, in Eugene few pictures, she looks like Sandara but I think Sandara was also compare with Moon Geun Young and Boa Kwon. Well, I like Sandara but she have to work a lot to be as talented as Eugene, Geun Young at Boa.

anyways,i'd be more glad if they collaborate with Filipino actors/actress here like Joe Chen, and Jason Hsu from Taiwan, and Carrie Lee from Malaysia.

~ heyah!! *though i'm just a newbie here, this topix is kinda interested to me...i'm also a filipina... - * ~
about this issue, weL.. - i think we have different taste, right? i mean... - Filipino cultures are different from Korean cultures... and of course...as a filipina, i would say that i prefer FILIPINOS to be more good than KOREAN...but..come to think of it? We, the Filipinos, really patronize our OWN artists or watsoever? i'll admit... - now, i like korean stuffs than filipinos... - why?
weL..i think i need more tym to explain the reasons..but...for clarification, filipinos should be opened to the knowledge of industrialization and technology.. - nowadays, other asian countries try to enhance their abilities in more technological and cyberworld ways... -
FILIPINOS should be open to other languages... - like korean, japanese, taiwanese, mandarin, chinese...etc.. -
- eh..kung titingnan mo...nandito tau asia.. we should know first our neighbor country's cultures..diba?

wow
well first of all, its quite obvious that there are no similarities, whatsoever, between the Filipino actors and the Korean actors that were mentioned and compared above...each and every actors that were mentioned have their own distict features and looks...their facial attributes and features are all different...i mean, they are not even close...
as for the other categories that were mentioned in other ppl's posts...
in my own opinion Korean entertainment is way better than the Philippines.
i just think that Philippine entertainment is lacking in so many ways...they pretty much suck in technological stuff...their movies are not something that would be promoted worldwide...some films might be launched internationally...but being famous for it...its a little too good to be true...and their dramas are all ridiculously repetitive with the same humor and stroyline...Korean dramas are also repetitive in their dramas, but its a whole different mood and sequencing in every drama...and its something that would keep you seated in your chair watching with interest...also, their dramas aren't very long, that it doesn't drag...so every episode is packed with scenes and details that would keep you anticipated...unlike Filipino dramas...where the whole drama takes a while to finish...and sometimes, some episodes are quite a waste of time watching because nothing actually happened...you can also tell that in the Philippines, foreign dramas appear much more inetresting to public than their own produced dramas...
for looks...i am not degrading myslef down as a filipino...but i really think that Koreans are much better looking than Filipinos...Filipinos are good-looking people...but Korean appear much more appealing to me...
usually, the Filipinos that i find attractive are those that are not a fulll-blood filipino...i am not really attracted to the morena, spanishy-asiany look...i like to light, gentle, and asian look...maybe the only thing that i wouldn't want is not having a double eyelid...and for the nose, i wouldn't want both...haha...i would want a caucassian nose or latino-a nose...but other than that...i love how Koreans look...
well folks...just because you don't particularly like something in your own coutry...that doesn't make you a traitor or less patriotic...i mean its just natural to not like everything about your coutry...
but other than that...i'm a proud Filipino...that likes Korean stuff!!! hhaaaa

Hello, guys! I am quite new here. I cannot help though to share my opinion regarding this matter.
I am Filipina and I am proud of it. But I also love watching foreign movies and series be Asian or Hollywood. It is sad though that Philippine made movies and series have been lagging behind in Asia generally. But that doesn't mean that is because we do not put quality in it. Honestly, I feel sorry that some of you claimed to be Filipino yet from the sound of it, you don't feel like one.
In my opinion, actors from both countries are both good-looking, although I feel in so many ways our actors/actresses are better good-looking than our Asian counterparts either Korean, Japanese or Taiwanese. I also love watching Korean series (not much movie though). I think they are well made because they are more funded and well-research. Their actors and actresses are stunningly good looking and sexy but if you look at them most of them somewhat look the same. Don't get me wrong and I hope I don't get misinterpreted here.

I mean I love Rain, just as an example. Many find him adorable and sexy and I do but let's be honest he is not really handsome especially if we compare him to Jang Dong gun or those other Korean actors. But there is something about him that draws us to him. Okay forget about this because I maybe clouding the real issue here.
My point is that to say that Korean celebrities are better good looking than ours is completely absurd. Actually, there is nothing really to compare because I believe both countries possess individual looks and talents. And please let us stop bickering our own talents. Honestly, there are more factors involved here why our own movies and series is having a hard time entering into the Asian market (I am not even saying the Hollywood). There are more serious and bigger issues involved here.
Lastly, we should be proud of who and what we are so that other countries will not accuse us of not having our own personality because we love to adore foreign culture. It is not bad to appreaciate other cultures but we need to love and uplift our own culture, as well.

I agree with all the commentors =D
Im filipina myself and I prefer koreans. You can't compare filipinos with koreans. Be it looks, movies or whatnot. I have to say that I find korean actors/actresses got better skills.
Richard Gutierrez can't be compared to Song Seung Hun. The only common thing they have is that they're both HOTTIES
When it comes to acting Song Seung Hun is way way better. He can kick off any character unlike Richard whose more likely better in modelling (?)
Koreans are better off. In any way. Out of those 2 only Korean movies are known here (Austria). Theyre even rentable lol. - oh yes to my suprise we rented some asian movies for our DVDnight and holy cow I was like surprised when they were showing Korean names at the beginning. and babaparabap ERIC MUN was like one of those actors. YOU are Filipino....why give your country much more respect even when it comes to entertainment???everybody knows that our country was all messed up because of this crap leaders but
why not AT LEAST give your country a chance to present something that can make your country look presentable????I just wanna say that if you are for Korean....why not at least give your country some of your respect to being proud as a Filipino and to at least go FOR Filipino actors???I admit that Korean actors were mostly really good in acting but NOT all of them are actually hot....for example is Rain......people thinks that he is adorable but for God's sake!he is not handsome actually.....to you who started this topic........you can put more pics of Filipino actors who are MUCH better looking to that those(except Richard...

)all people have different tastes we should put that to consideration!
not all Filipino movies and dramas are all crappy!!!when it comes to Filipino movies.........I believe that it is much better than other Asian movies!!!Magnifico is one of the example!!

its actually awarded and also became known worldwide...
and yeah!when it comes to Filipino actresses......I believe that Filipino actresses were much better looking!!

yay!!!Katrina Halili and Angel Locsin!!woooo!

I think both countries produce good and bad shows. It's just that most Filipinos prefer Kdramas since it ends a lot faster than filipino series. Let's face it...that's one of the reasons why Asian dramas are a hit in the Philippines. You know they will end in a few weeks. Unlike most Filipino series that would have additional episodes simply because the network can see it's a cash cow. But like some Filipino series..a lot of Korean dramas now are getting old. Many fans can tell you that. I guess that's the reason why the Korean wave is slowing down since people in Asia...more specifically SE Asia are discoveriong doramas or dramas from Japan which are shorter and with more varied storylines..and it doesn't always end up with the lead actress or actor dying.
As for looks..I have to agree that it's all very subjective. Because if we will base it on beauty pagent and models all over the world..hands down there are more Filipinos who have won beauty titles and are also models in the US and Europe. Does that mean that Filipinos are better looking and therefore Filipino actors/actresses are better looking than their Korean counterpart. I don't think so..and I don't think Korean actors/actressess are better looking than our Filipino actors/actresses. It's all subjective. Korean have something Filipinos will always like...that white complexion..which to the West is totally not the thing but we Pinoys still dig it. On the other hand, Koreans will always want something which a lot of our celebrities don't have to go under the knife to have....double eyelids. We just have it. Besides, I don't know of a Filipino actor or actress that had to go under the knife to have her whole body..not just her face overhauled. Boobs..yes...nose...maybe..but your whole face and your body....unacceptable for Pinoys...but in Korea...man..have you seen their before pictures?....Straight out of nerd's class or maybe a horror movie.

I personally do not like this topic, because it's awkward to be hearing about comparison.
The Philippines have good movies, well I think. The only thing is we don't have enough technology to make those Oh My Gosh THAT IS SO AMAZING movies. Korean Movies and shows, which I love watching are good. You have to keep in mind that there are differences. Language, economy and stuff.

It doesn't apply to everyone.
I'm Filipino, but I don't look Spanish at all. Some Filipinos look Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. I look Chinese.

-koreans
-whhhhen the lovers kiss it seems so fake and the actors are so uncomfortable kissing each other.. when they are about to kiss it gets xciting but when they actually kiss it kills the whole moment
Crying
-filipinos
-they cry from the beginning to the end and they give it all.....
-koreans
-they cry wen its almost to the end.
PAIRING
-filipinos
-though they dnt really change their loveteams.... its ok becuz they pair up their artists with the right person but they do change around but mostly in a series they have same pairs.
-koreans
-they change around their pairing all the time and they barely make a drama with the same paring even if its viewer love their love team.....
PROMOTION
-filipinos
-they sucked at promoting their dramas (i dnt knooow why but sorry) face it!0
-koreans
-i have to admit they good at promoting, their dramas shows every where, in u.s, philipines its close countries.... boy their dramas are known everywhere
ACTORS
-filipinos
-we do have the most talent and goodlooking actors.
-korean
-boy koreans, even if they are old they are stil hot and talented......

-filipinos
-what more can you ask for with the abs cbn talent.... even if they are stil young they can act rlly good
