well, hello everyone! i wasn't able to finish the series on local tv. and i'm now really looking forward to a rerun. uh, did they show the limo kiss after the wedding? i'm surprised.. you guys didn't like the soundtrack?? i absolutely loved it!! especially the instrumentals and the humming song. and the one where a violin and (i think)

hey twin, whaddup? you okay? no time for yourself? how's that? well.. hope things get better for you soon. too bad you can't watch it again. you want me to watch it for you? biggrin.gif

Hey I love the OST so much, can imagine myself at a concert listening to the songs lol.gif

I love both ballads, So In Love & Right Beside You very much, Right Beside You translation lyrics really very good for the couple and hopefully also will apply to Tae Hee and Rae Won in real life keke, especially this part:

"In a world full of people, we found each other"

As for So In Love, all us lovers love the way the singer sings it haha, makes it more unique, even my bro sings the song like her cus it just don't give the same feeling if u don't sing it tht way tongue.gif

I love the Instrumentals, Alone.... Tears.... Rain.... By The River.... & more.

I've been busy with school and family stuff but I did squeeze in ep 11 & 12 one of the days hahaha, can't help it, I need a regular fix of LSIH to keep me sane. And last night I went to rewatch the Behind The Scenes when Tae Hee & Rae Won were practising their singing parts haha, esp wanted to see the part when Tae Hee beats Rae Won's hand lol.gif

QUOTE(Neym @ Oct 31 2006 5 48 PM)

those scenes are cut where? i've seen those in the DVD. hehehe. biggrin.gif

erm so u have the 18 ep version dvd?

cause if not, erm the lingerie scene is not in 16 ep version but rather in 16 ep dvd they included another lingerie scene instead. this lingerie scene is when rae won sneaked tae hee out of hospital, the 16 ep one is after rae won brought tae hee to try the wedding dress.

as for wedding car kiss, the 16 ep version had it as preview to one ep, but the 18 ep version one put it at start of one ep as recap with their conversations & oKs in it, a little diff actually, KTH's 1 hr special has another version as well.

anyway when i watched ep 11 on the 16 ep dvd again, esp love the scene when rae won went to look for tae hee the 1st time she fainted & was sent to hospital... tht part when he carried her hurried onto the bed, n they had their heads & noses together & eyes locked to each other... the part i love is when u can see their tears at the corner of their eyes :tears: they've really missed being with each other so much. n then rae won went to kiss her eyes wub.gif

when i watched ep 12 again on the 16 ep dvd, haven't watched this version in a long time! n it feels like i'm watching the preview at the end for the first time. the other wedding scene they had shot.... think this one would be touching as well, with rae won putting his hand out for tae hee, n his tears just drop so well at the moment, tae hee's too, n have i mentioned before? i actually prefer her in this other wedding dress with her hair down.. n then in this teaser preview also, both were running together towards a destination then they both stopped & loooked shocked or something... wonder what tht was supposed to be hehe cause in the end, they gave us another version instead of the one in the teaser!

To be honest, their quarelling in ep 11 at the hospital is one of my favorite scenes. It's not a poking fun kinda quarrel or a childish one, it feels too real.... haha just after Soo In told him while they were out eating tht he's childish & naive but she still likes him, in tht quarrel she had to bring up tht flaw of his.... "tht's why I say ur childish!" lol.gif i also like the fact at one pt in tht scene, when soo in said, "this is going nowhere" , the quarrel was going nowhere & she went straight to the pt of the issue... this is one eg of how Soo In is perfect for Hyun woo, she makes up for the flaws of Hyun woo & vice versa.

Also at the end of ep 11 when they met across the road on his bday *she was 5 hrs late btw*, n Hyunwoo shouted to her, "You have a hot temper", she replied, "So do you." but the looks on their face, they were so happy to see each other, also tis scene to me shows how they each accept each others flaws smile.gif

sorry to all for the long post, this is wat happens when i get the chance to watch any parts of the drama again.... still have so many pts i can touch on but yea don't wanna bore anyone.

for eg Soo In's dad keke, he's so cute. when HW told him to teach SI how to cook cus she's gonna marry soon, her dad replied, "i think it'll be faster for u too pick up cooking cus she just doesnt have the talent for it" or something around there lol.gif n how when her father saw how hyun woo & dad wasn't getting along cus of SI & HW was being stubborn telling his father he's gonna marry SI no matter wat, after HW's dad left, SI's dad was angry & said, "Who says u can marry my daughter? Not in this situation!" ~something around the lines of tht.

oh yes i do have the 18-ep version. lols, i thought that's really the number of episodes this series has!

i didn't know there were 16 episodes too. hehehe.

anyway, that DVD was given to me as a present by my friend so i never knew. biggrin.gif

Love Story in Harvard captured a spot in my favorite Korean tv series list. I'll say the storyline is quite "intellectual". The romance in the story revolves within the boundaries of the leading characters' careers. This is why I'd love it. The writer definitely brought out a new element and style in romance series. Just notice that if not for the professions of Soo-in, Hyun-woo and Jung-min, the rising action, the plot, and even the falling action will not take place.

Watching this series is how I began to like Kim Tae-hee. Man! She's got so much talent in her repertoire.

QUOTE(Neym @ Oct 28 2006 3 45 PM)

hahaha! really? which one there? the hanggang ngayon or the other one which keeps on playing before and after commercial breaks? hehehe.

well as for the korean version, i also don't like the soundtrack. lols! biggrin.gif

Yeah, right. There's this one track's intro that pretty much suits another "type" of movie. But there's one track (a slow song sang by a man) that I think is perfect in melancholic scenes in the series. Overall, I'd give a "poor" rating for the series' soundtracks. You hear it all over again; hence, the downside of the series.

Think about this: Love Story in Harvard is "intellectual" because the romance in the story will never ever take place if not for the careers of the leading characters. For example, Hyun-woo will never meet Soo-in if he didn't come to the U.S. to study Law in Harvard. Another is that their "love" for each other will not develop if Soo-in didn't try to save that fat man who was eating steak in a bar. Afterwards, Hyun-woo, the "lawyer", tried to save Soo-in, the "doctor", by speaking in behalf to the jurisdiction or committee of the med school (remember? the good samaritan law?). -- and thus, basically, that episode turns out to be the rising action of the series. What do you think? sweat.gif

oh you've got a point there! and if soo in didn't become the witness for the mock trial where it all started, a new romantic relationship wouldn't have blossomed.

and if not because of a case in korea, they wouldn't have met again, right? biggrin.gif

Precisely! laugh.gif I'm glad you got my point. I wonder who the writer of the story is. He had been exceptional in using a new element and style.

Come to think of this: Remember the episode wherein Soo-in and Hyun-woo met each other (formally for the first time) in a restaurant? That is, when Hyun-woo was finding a good med student to help him with medical terminologies in preparation for the mock trial? If you do remember, I strongly believe the writer made that scene parallel to the scene wherein the two met again in front of an office building (in Korea) for the DA Chemicals case. Unfortunately this time, Hyun-woo hit Soo-in on her face compared to the former scene where they looked sweet. Now, If you would analyze these two scenes closely, you will attest with me that their jobs/careers had been their binding force in the story and that the first scene foreshadows the second scene; hence, the writer is giving the viewers the assurance that the two will always be together even Soo-in left Hyun-woo in the US. Both scenes depict the meeting of two people.

Furthermore, if you will look at the entirety of the story, every single scene happens with the influence of "jobs". A great analogy is this: what makes a car engine work? fuel and battery, right? .. so in the story, what makes the series run is every single job/career by different people. Gets mo? sweat.gif Hehe.. Lastly, if you will notice, the series started with a business woman (Kim Min) talking to Hyun-woo, who is actually studying law. Also, the series ended with Hyun-woo leaving Korea because of a case in the US. laugh.gif

When I was able to analyze the story closely, that's when I really appreciated it. Very much -- because of Kim Tae-hee.

Been watching Kr drama for two years and only last week watched this. Have been keeping this off my watch list because I read some negative comments. But after two years of reading reviews, I felt the positive reviews outweighed those few early negative comments. And boy, am I glad I finally watched. Really enjoyed this series, esp the early part. Middle part, when the girl developed a medical condition, I thought: "Oh, they are going to ruin such a fun drama with this!". But even the medical condition was necessary for the story, so is forgivable. Overall, a really nice drama. Glad I watched.

I bet what you mean with "early part" is when Hyun-woo begins to like Soo-in. Especially the part where there's this mock trial.. I think this is when Soo-in starts to have a little bit of admiration for Hyun-woo..

You are not mistaken, rambutan.lucy! I am glad you are glad being able to watch it. thumbsup.gif

whoa! well i wouldn't have realized them really if you didn't tell me! hehehe

and to think, lawyer and doctor are extremely different fields of work but still, the writer managed to make ways to let them coincide, like the DA Chemical case. if it would have been a different case then maybe they wouldn't have met again, right?

well for me, this series is very different from the others.

well apart from the fact that it is done in harvard, i rarely see series in where guys fall for the girls first and relationships like start on the very early episodes! biggrin.gif

wow su in lee! you brought a new insight on the LSIH series...i think this will start a new discussion agen...wait fro SYAH, Hottegroll, ryokou, etc. lol.gif

that reminds me of how the writers put to details what a "football" symbolizes...for Soo-in, Hyunwoo and ALex...and minor details like when soo-in lee entered the hospital in Korea fro the 1st time while an old man was supporting her wife who got her leg broken...

The camera showed soo-in giving them a second look (like the way she glance at the couple kissing back in Harvard)...There's something in her face as she saw the old couple taking care of each other...its like asking her again if shes ready to grow old with someone and her dismissing the idea ryt away.. smile.gif

Yes, they were not allowed to film inside the campus of Harvard; only a few shots. Thus, they ended up filming at the University of California. I really can't remember where I read that article! duh.gif But here is an article from wikipedia.org .. I just don't know how accurate this is.

well now i know that that school indeed looks a lot like harvard! even some parts of the library!

it's really awesome!

well that's why i was kinda wondering why they don't like use laptops in their classes because in harvard law school, they do use laptops! hehehe.

anyway, i'm a very typical reviewer! hahaha! well although i appreciate sad endings a lot, happy endings are more significant to me!

and it so happens that most of korean series have like the main characters hurt each other first before they actually tell each other how they feel!

Love Story in Harvard, as you called it "so much different", is true. It really has those "twists" that you can't find in other series.. One is what you've just said -- Hyun woo said "I think I am going to like you" straight to Soo-in. When I have gone through that scene, it was like, "Wow.. Hyun woo! You are brave, aren't you?"

And so Kim Rae-won did a good job in that scene. His acting was very natural and just look at how his face looked like. It seemed Juan Luna painted his face on the TV screen. Well, this may be overstating cluebat.gif But it's true, well, as for me..

Hehehe.. You've got to try hard with this: Recapture the scene in which Hyun-woo is shouting Soo-in's name, several times, from the outside of the house of Soo-in's friend, in Korea. Now, imagine the night is deep, you're inside that house, then Hyun-woo is shouting out loud "Neym! Neym! Neym!" .. while crying. Hahaha lmao.gif that would be cool cool.gif ..

Neym, I admit you've got a point when you said, "guys could even say that straight to the one they like and why do others still deny it in other series?" .. I think why is this so prevalent in many series is because this external conflict is one way to (at least) stretch the series to a "reasonable" length. wacko.gif

hahaha! you got me there, su in lee! i was already imaginign myself seated on the floor, crying while i listen to hyun woo's yells! indded so touching! hehehe

anyway, i noticed that in other series, the real reason why they end up lasting up to 16 episodes was that because the protagnists don't really admit their feeling yet until like episode 14 and up and then their problems will occur after those admissions.

while in LSIH, the conflict which made the series last up to 16-18 episodes was the fact that they were separated by fate and they had dilemmas which they had to deal with before having a peaceful and happy life. biggrin.gif

That line in bold: You just pointed out the right thing again, Neym! Look at the dilemmas you're talking about. Aren't those correlated to what we were talking about recently?

By the way, what a great imagination you have! clapping.gif

But I think they're kind of small..? Don't you think? But his eyes really made an impact in Love Story in Harvard, especially when he cried in the last episode. His crying there really meant something -- his giving up to the request of Soo-in; hence, showing out his love for her..

hehehe, yeah, i like his samll eyes, the same reason i fell for so ji sub! hahaha!

Harvard Gets High Marks in Pop Culture
By Park Chung-a
Staff Reporter

Harvard University is without a doubt one of the most prestigious universities in the world. More than any other Ivy League school, however, Harvard has always gained excessive attention from both the local media and the public, and has long been one of the most favorite subjects for dramas, books and even names of numerous stores.

``Love Story in Harvard,'' airing at 9:55 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays on SBS. The show, which is actually shot in Los Angeles, revolves around two intelligent men from prestigious families fighting over the love of one beautiful and kind-hearted girl, a medical school student from a poor family. The drama stars popular actors Kim Tae-hee, Kim Rae-won, and Lee Chong-jin, who wear white sports shirts under V-neck sweaters; a preppy fashion sense long associated with Ivy League schools.

``Love Story in Harvard'' recorded a 16.8 percent viewing rate last week, the highest among other dramas in the same time slot. Reflecting its popularity, the Internet message board for the show has been filled with comments ranging from predictions to how the love triangle will develop to questions about the English ability of the show's Korean stars. ``I feel really annoyed by Kim Rae-won's poor English accent. How many times did I mention on the board that Kim Rae-won should improve his English pronunciation? One week has gone by since I wrote the message to the director, but nothing has been changed yet," said Kim Young-sik, of the ID ``sailory,'' on the message board.

Koreans' fondness for Harvard is longstanding, but its expression in popular dramas can be traced back to ``The Paper Chase,'' an American TV show about a group of ambitious students, displaying their everyday lives and efforts to make it through the notoriously difficult Harvard Law School. When the show was broadcast in South Korea in the late 1980s, its title was translated in Korean to ``Habodu Taehakui Kongbubolraedul (The Studying Bugs of Harvard University).''

Stories about Harvard University can also be found in the publishing sector. Most books are success stories about people in their late teens or early 20s telling how, through persistence and diligence, they were successful in being accepted to the prestigious school. The books are written either by the Harvard students themselves or their proud parents explaining their ``special education method.''

Recent bestsellers include ``Neonanana Hal Suitda (Everyone Can Do It)'' by 21-year-old Miss Korea Kum Na-na, ``Kongbu Kudan Ogi Shipdan (9 points for Studying 10 points for Determination),'' by 18-year-old Park Won-hee, who was accepted into 11 prestigious U.S. universities including Harvard, Stanford and Princeton, and ``Hanguk Tojongeommaui Havard Project (Korean Native Mother's Harvard University Project),'' by Lee Ka-hee, the mother of Park Won-hee.

``Manhaeng _ From Harvard to Hwagye Temple'' from 1999 told the story of Monk Hyungak, an American who became a monk after graduating from Harvard University. And recently another Buddhist monk, Rev. Sowoon, told of her experience of attending the university for eight years in ``Habadueso Mannanbucho (The Buddha I Met in Harvard).''

The perception that most South Korean students and their parents have of Harvard University may be unrealistic and steeped in fantasy. Given the popularity of recent dramas and books, however, it doesn't look like Koreans will soon tire of the ``Harvard phenomenon.''

Truly Madly Deeply
Written arren Hayes/Daniel Jones

I'll be your dream
I'll be your wish I'll be your fantasy
I'll be your hope I'll be your love
Be everything that you need.
I'll love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply do
I will be strong I will be faithful
'cause I'm counting on

A new beginning
A reason for living
A deeper meaning

I want to stand with you on a mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

And when the stars are shining brightly in the velvet sky,
I'll make a wish to send it to heaven
Then make you want to cry
The tears of joy for all the pleasure in the certainty
That we're surrounded by the comfort and protection of

The highest powers
In lonely hours
The tears devour you

I want to stand with you on a mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

Oh can't you see it baby?
You don't have to close your eyes
'Cause it's standing right here before you
All that you need will surely come

I'll be your dream I'll be your wish
I'll be your fantasy
I'll be your hope I'll be your love
Be everything that you need
I'll love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply do

I want to stand with you on a mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

Welcome to the thread, strawberrieSweeT! clapping.gif You are new here, aren't you? Please correct me if I'm wrong. sweat.gif

To Neym,
I just found the article (in The Korea Times) in which I have first learned that LSIH wasn't filmed in Harvard.
Here is an excerpt..

"As the title suggests, 'Love Story in Harvard' is a romance set at the prestigious university. The drama, however, is actually being shot in the western part of Los Angeles."
kimchispice27
it's great to see the high ratings of LSIH!

to tell you, i have a friend who hated korean series so much but she fell deeply in love with LSIH that she can't miss a single episode!

even me, i don't like the station where they air the tagalog version but LSIH is the reason why i switch the channel there. hehehe biggrin.gif

To tell you too, I'm not really fond of watching anything. But when I had a glimpse of Love Story in Harvard (I mean, Kim Tae-hee), it was like, "Ok, what is this all about?" .. Hehe sweat.gif

Basically, Love Story in Harvard and Kim Tae-hee are analogous for me. I just don't know why.. laugh.gif

Love Story In Harvard is very popular. Finally a love story with a happy end. Kim Rae Won is one of my fav korean actor.

hehehe, well yeah. i mean i was already very fond of watching korean dramas then eventually i stopped watching. i started again when i've seen forbidden love. KTH was there, too.

then i stopped again and started with MY GIRL and after that, i've heard about LSIH. hehehe.

well let me see.the main reason why i watched the series was because of the fact that the setting is in HARVARD. hehehe.

but now i don't regret thet i've watched it. biggrin.gif

Wengkee16

hehehe, i even watched which star are you from and ...ing because of kim rae won! biggrin.gif
