I think he's a really good actor. Good to see that he's being promoted often. He's got a new series with Jessica again it's not Fan Lai Fa it's Five to a family or something like that.

[Ta Kung Pao]

Joe Ma was earlier linked in rumours with Nancy Wu, but at a TVB event yesterday, the two were happy to take photographs with each other at the request of the press, suggesting there is no awkwardness.

For this year's Chinese New Year, Joe has had to celebrate in advance because of his work and in response to not being able to spend the occasion with his son, he says: "Children do not have a deep understanding into the meanings of festivals so my son has not been unhappy about it. As long as his cousin is playing with him, he will be happy."

It's the New Year again and with his recent rise in popularity, Joe Ma offers some early greetings and wishes Hong Kong people good health, positivity towards every task and happiness through every day! Actually before the interview, Joe has already eaten, but with the Dim Sum Chef preparing eight special dishes, it really whet his appetite as he was full of praises for the food, but worried about what eating too much will do to his figure. Breaking his diet regime for the beautiful delicacies - it looks like Joe will have to do more sport to keep fit!

[Ta Kung Pao & Oriental Daily]

TVB's new series "Lady Fan" will begin airing tonight and yesterday a group of cast members including Jessica Hsuan, Joe Ma, Cindy Au, Tsang Wai Kuen and Kong Chi Nei took part in a promotional event, giving out presents and playing games with the audience and having a happy Sunday afternoon.

After playing games, Joe Ma signed autographs for the fans and one fan gave him some soup made from cockles, fish stomach and abalone. He says: "They say that they saw me very tired before, so they made me some soup to help my health."

Straight after the event, he immediately left with Jessica to film on new series "Family of Five". This show will soon finish filming and he will then be heading out to Holland to guest star in the "International Chinese New Talent Singing Contest". After returning, he will rest for a week before starting on another show that will co-star Sunny Chan and Steven Au where he will be playing a Wulin master. Talking of his continuous filming being hard work, he laughs: "As an artiste, I hope that the work is never ending, it is a good opportunity that the company is giving me." In order to act his character well, Joe will be following a simple diet when he is resting so he can lose a little weight. As for whether he needs to learn kung fu, he says: "The company would like me to go and learn, but I really don't have time. I will try and do more sport to flex my bones a little."

With TVB's recent cutbacks leading to less work for its artistes, despite everyone working as usual, there is a shadow that has been cast on everyone. Jessica feels that the company must have its own reasons for what it is doing, so she respects the decisions. When asked if she feels that the crew are unhappy whilst she is working, she says: "I don't find that and in truth there is nothing I can help with. If I get calls then I will keep working, if I don't get called, then I will rest. (In comparison, do you feel you are lucky?) Yes, we are better as artistes, but I will not think too much about it becuase you don't know what will happen in the future.

There are around two weeks of filming left for "Family of Five" and Jessica will then be heading into the Mainland to film some advertisements, including an aromatherapy ad that will be filmed in Shanghai. Then in March, she will be filming a Taiwanese series in Wuxi opposite Roger Kwok for around three months. With the spread of bird flu, she will be bringing some more instant noodles with her when she is travelling. She says: "I really like eating chicken, but at the moment I daren't eat it, so I have been eating lamb to build up some body heat."

Also, some magazines have suggested that she earlier felt that Joe was not yet up to standard to partner her in series, but after he gained popularity, her attitude towards him has changed and she has become very attached to him. In response, Jessica laughs: "As usual, I will not comment."

[Ta Kung Pao]

With his popularity rising since the airing of "Triumph in the Skies", Joe Ma's tall figure and healthy image has been well accepted and attracted him a six-figure fee for his real estate spokesperson contract. Yesterday at a promotional event, Joe showed off his skills as 'housewife killer' as he demonstrated some aerobics and made a salad, attracting many mature lady fans to support him. Some fans even called out: "You are very handsome and suave!" as other housewifes gave him lucky packets in exchange for his autograph. Joe complied with all requests and wore a broad smile throughout, to the joy of his fans and receiving a warm welcome.

In response to being dubbed the new generation of 'housewife killer', Joe indicated modestly that he was lucky to have made "Triumph" and a good character. As for his fan base being similar to Leon Lai's, Joe says modestly: "I am not as good as Leon, but I hope that more people will like me." Talking of an increase in his income and whether he has thought of buying a new property, Joe was very loyal and started promoting his own advertisements, saying he likes this estate because it has fresh air and is convenient for transport, a perfect home.

[Ta Kung Pao]

Joe Ma, Jessica Hsuan, Kong Chi Nei and Shek Sau appeared on a radio programme to promote their new series "Lady Fan" yesterday. When Joe was asked if he felt pressure on his first leading male role, he says that this show was a low budget simple production, so he will not worry about the ratings. He has recently been filming for new show "Family of Five" and his wife is working overseas so he will not be able to spend it with her this year. When asked if he will be sending a gift across the seas, he laughs that he and his wife have a good relationship and do not need to give presents just for this occasion.

Talking of the recent cutbacks at TVB and the changes in policies, Joe replied carefully that he feels being an artiste is about doing your own job and not worrying too much about other things. Has he had a pay cut from the company? Joe says that he still has another year's contract with the company, so they have not yet discussed the matter of salary reduction. In response to the cutbacks, Kong Chi Nei says that she has moved to the drama team and although her workload is not as high as being a host, her salary has increased since starting to film dramas.

Jessica has also been filming for "Family of Five" and has been extremely busy. With her being so busy, how will she be spending Valentines Day? Jessica says she has to work on that day to film an advertisement for a skincare product. The reporters ask whether her boyfriend will be unhappy that she cannot be with him, but she laughs that he will not sulk and she has not even bought a present yet because she has no time. Jessica feels that for two people to get on, the most important thing is to be happy.

In the new show, Jessica will be playing Fan Lei Fa and she indicates that this show was filmed like a cartoon so the concept is quite fresh and she feels no pressure from ratings. With her repeat ad for the skincare sponsor, has she upped her fee? Jessica says that with the decoration work on her new home, the money has already been spent on her house. When asked if she has raised security on her house after her unwanted visitors, she says that there is no need as there are six dogs at her home and this makes it quite safe. When joked about having her boyfriend there would be even safer, Jessica refused to comment and just laughed instead.

Shek Sau has been married for many years and they have had an understanding for each other a long time ago, so there is no need to give flowers on Valentines Day. He laughs that this day is for the youngsters. When asked how his son Sam will be spending Valentines Day, Shek says indicated that his son has many female friends, but no girlfriend. As his son has come back from abroad, then often young people kissing and hugging is nothing unusual and this does not mean they are dating. When reporters suggest that someone was earlier referring to him as 'father-in-law', he says he does not mind people referring to him like this because he is an open-minded guy and he feels that rumours are not important, the most important thing is being aware of what you are doing.

[Sing Pao & Ta Kung Pao]

A group of cast members from 'Lady Fan' including Jessica Hsuan, Joe Ma, Shek Sau, Cherie Kong and Cindy Au arrived at the Che Kung Temple in Shatin yesterday to pray for luck as well as a promotion for ratings and at the time a group of primary schoolchildren were there on a school trip. The kids crowded round Joe and Jessica asking for photographs and autographs and the two complied with their wishes. Afterwards, the cast members turned the windmill inside the temple for good luck and again raised a crowd.

This is Jessica's first visit to the Che Kung temple and she says that since entering the entertainment industry, she has learned a lot about worshipping the gods and the year gods. Jessica laughs that when she was young, she once asked her father what religion they were and her father said: "Fan Gau Lo!" [Em's note: play on words 'Gau' means religion, but 'Fan Gau' means sleeping!] When asked by reporters if she will be asking for a good romance from the fortune sticks, Jessica says that she didn't even know about the sticks, but she hopes for good ratings, her work to run smoothly and good health. Earlier, she was ill for a whole week and had to go to see a doctor. However she was too busy and did not get enough time to rest, so she will have to wait until filming finishes before she can regain her health. Having dated her dentist boyfriend for three months, Jessica says that if she requests a fortune stick, she will not ask about romance because she will be afraid if it is a bad result. She feels that some things are better off not knowing and just going along with the flow.

Joe Ma indicates that he does not follow any particular religion and only offers prayers to the gods when he is attending a filming blessing. As for his popularity with the schoolchildren, Joe says that maybe because he is currently filming "Family of Five" with a group of child actors, so he has been infected by some of their innocence. Joe seems to love children, but in the show, he is an uncle and has to keep a serious tone. At home on the other hand, Joe is a good father, whereas his wife is the stricter parent to his son.

[Sing Pao Special Report]

Joe Ma - Seven Years is just a beginning...

The reason for changing jobs is only known to the person involved, don't think that the only reason for changing jobs is down to the poor economy and high unemployment. For Joe who left his life as a police officer and even with his modelling experience, taking on the life of television and film work, speaking lines, walking on the stage and catwalk, posing for photographs - this was a completely different life. Tall, dashing and handsome, Joe has been in the industry for seven years now, but only today are people truly calling out his name.

Signing as an artiste for TVB was in his eyes a successful career change, but in fact this was just the first step of his life in showbiz. His first series was "Heroes of Shaolin", his first shoot was with household names such as Deric Wan and Gigi Lai. When he arrived for duty at the airport, he had to introduce himself clearly to the crew: "I am Joe Ma, I am part of the cast." To introduce himself in this way required some courage. The other cast members such as Deric, Gigi and Eddie Cheung were already well known, but still treated the newcomer with a courteous smile. He still remembers: "Eddie Cheung also helped me with the checking in procedure. All the others were very friendly towards me, just at the time I wasn't sure how I should carry myself."

Before he started on the road to stardom, Joe was a police officer. For a crime fighter where the difference between right and wrong was clear to have to delve into each character and play some evil roles required some development within himself: "I was not a child entering the industry, but an adult going through a career change. I had to put away some of the experiences and prejudices and when I played some cruel and nasty characters, there was a paradox in my mind." Looking back, the Joe of today says: "There was a thought of life is like a stage, many things seem to have a plan. As this is the path I have chosen, then I should walk forward boldly."

As a newcomer starting out, no matter if he had many or no lines, he would not worry about whether he was the centre of attention or not (and in truth I have met with many newcomers who are fake, overly self-confident and thinking they are famous before their time. They are hard to handle and I feel sorry for their naivity and stupidity.) He focussed on his performances and who can say that NG's have never happened to them, but even when he met with NG's he never uttered a word of complaint: "I just bore it silently, the only thing I could do was to stay quiet, smile and then do it again." It is not hard to imagine his helplessness and embarrassment.

Remembering about seven years ago in "The Criminal Investigator", his tall figure stood out a little. Talking of old times: "A lot of my expressions were very wooden, not natural at all..." I ask: "Your experiences as a police officer should have helped?" Joe explains that it is difficult to link police duties with those of being an actor and the more he wanted to do better, the harder it became. There was a short show where he had to work with Ada Choi and he played a playboy character, he says: "When I watched it later, I felt that my performance was so wooden, exaggerated and superficial. I couldn't grasp my character and was simply acting." In his heart there is a ruler measuring the extent of his success and even if the people around him offer him a few words of praise, he is still reserved. When people feedback his shortcomings, he is on the brink of noting it down on paper. Maybe this practicality and emotion is always conflicting in his heart. He says: "After reading the 'bible' and understanding my own and other people's characters, when I receive the script then I will say to myself: Joe Ma, this is your character in the drama, the experiences of this character is not Joe Ma. Then I will gradually understand how to enter the role of the character and not put my own feelings into the role." After an artite has "entered" the role, then they will have to put their heart into become "absorbed". After seven years as an artiste, it is not that he has not grasped the importance of this, just that the opportunity has only recently been offered to him.

When "Triumph in the Skies" reached high ratings, the character of "Vincent" was firmly etched into the viewers hearts and this left him with a lot of encouragement and motivation to succeed and so he says: "In the early days (around seven years ago) I still worked hard, but it was like someone else was controlling the switch or maybe that the camera was never rolling for me." Hearing this, I feel that only when an artiste finds fame does he gain a market value, during these happy times, then as long as the archives are complete, then there will still be a chance to see the small parts and heartfelt performances that were presented in those days.

"Actually, there were many many people who were working just as hard as me in those days, everyone did their part and they just keep working silently, putting their all into their performances. I am a lucky one as the opportunity has befallen me this time." Joe sincerely mentions a few names that appear on the cast list at the end of the episodes and although they do not conjure up great popularity, Joe still offers them the utmost in respect and admiration.

"When I come into contact with newcomers to the industry, to a certain extent I feel that I am looking into a mirror that has gone back in time and I see myself. If I can, I will offer some extracts from my own experiences." Joe himself has received help from many veterans and he has experienced the benefits of teamwork and helping each other. Although he says it with a smile, I feel that his willingness to help others is a virtue and this comes straight from the heart.

Joe Ma's popularity is gaining by the day, but this has not affected the pace of life for him. In the past when he goes out with friends, he would not say much and he only sees them once in a while, but recently he has accepted any invitation he receives: "I am usually the last to leave because the opportunity to spend time with friends is rare, especially when I am working." When friends call him 'Master Ma', 'Big Brother Chung', he knows that they are just joking. "I prefer people to call me Ma Tak Chung, or Joe. When I am filming, then the best is to call my character name. For an artiste, it is a good thing for people to know you and take you out and hearing people say: 'That show has brought fame upon him." The truth is this, the show is a result of teamwork and co-operation, no artiste can become famous on their own." The success of changing careers is not needed to be said, more work and a greater income means that the success can be felt in the heart. As for future targets, he says: "Working hard and saving hard. I want to build a nest egg for the future."

When Joe Ma's grandmother died, he was working and when he found out the sad news, he kept his pain in his heart. Even when saying goodbye to her at the funeral parlour, he held back the tears, until one night when he returned home... He tells: "When I saw the lights on the family shrine and thought about the time when my grandmother was in the living room and walking around in the kitchen, asking me whether I wanted to eat and pulling the covers over me. When I thought that I would never see her again, I cried a lot. If my grandmother could know that I am doing okay, she will be very happy. My father and mother are also my greatest supporters and even in the days when I had just one or two lines, they would still say it was good. My wife will support me smilingly. " This man who returns home after work says once again: "My family have given me the greatest support."

Joe Ma and Stephanie Cheng were guests at the opening of a skincare centre yesterday and former Miss Hong Kong Shallin Tse Ling was also present with her two daughters.

Joe says that he does have a skincare regime and feels it is even more important for men to look after their skin because men usually have greasy skin and like outdoor activities so their skin gets dirty and blocked up more easily. When asked if his wife helps him to do facial masks, he says: "At first she did, but gradually I learned to do it myself, so now I do it for her instead."

Joe is currently working on TVB series "One Beautiful Spear" together with Charmaine Sheh and Sunny Chan. Talking of Charmaine's many rumours in the past, is he afraid of becoming linked with her? He laughs: "I am not afraid. (Is it because Charmaine is already taken?) She is happy with her life at the moment. (Has Mr Chan been to visit the set?) There are plenty of colleagues such as Sunny, Stephen and me to look after her, so there is no need. Maybe he should come when it gets a little harder later on."

2 more pix that i forgot:

Sonija Kwok and Joe Ma appeared at guest models at a promotion and as well as receiving a fee, they were also allowed to choose any shoes they liked. Other guests included Catherine Hung, Bondy Chiu, Angela Tong, Margaret Chung, Chan Wing Yin and Bel Lau.

Having been a model previously, Joe indicated that since he became an artiste, this was the first time he had done a shoe show and when asked if he needed to specially protect his feet and legs, he laughed: "Not at all! Actually having leg hairs is better because you seem more masculine." As he is currently busy with filming, he complains that his legs are too white and is not matching the skin colour on the top half of his body, so he plans to go for some sunbathing after finishing his current series. Earlier he was stung by an insect leaving his eyes very red and after treatment, the swelling has subsided, but the infection has spread to the glands on his forehead that are still a little swollen, but in recent filming, they have been able to hide it with the camera angles. Talking of being able to select some shoes for part of his fee, he says that he has chosen five or six paires, because he feels bad if he takes too much but if he takes too few, it seems disrespectful.

As a host for the TVB coverage of this year's Olympic Games, Joe Ma has visited Athens to film for the lead up and locations included the venue of the very first games in 1896, where this year's Marathon will be held. He will also be introducing some of the other sights in Athens such as the cathedrals, the university and the temples. However, the most disappointing thing for Joe is that the trip was very tightly scheduled, so he didn't have a chance to go and visit some of the Greek islands, especially as these are places he would most like to go to.

Charmaine Sheh and Joe Ma visited London and Birmingham in the UK to promote TVB's rental business and as they were only there for three days, the schedules were tight and so they had little time to go shopping. Although Charmaine has just had her birthday, the local fans were very thoughtful and presented her with a birthday cake to celebrate.

This is Charmaine's first visit to the UK and it coincided with the broadcasting of the finale to her series "Perish in the Name of Love" on the local TVBS channel, so the reception from the local audience was very warm. Although there was a band of security guards surrounding the stage to keep order at the shows, the number of fans who wanted to see her was massive and knocked over the security line. Luckily no-one was hurt and seeing the situation, Charmaine was a little frightened but not in any danger.

Also, with the popularity of "Triumph in the Skies" in the rental markets, as one of the stars of the show, Joe has immediately become the 'idol of millions' and wherever he went he was surrounded by female fans. Although Joe is married, this had little effect on his popularity with the females as they continuously gave him presents until his arms were tired!

Jessica Hsuan and Joe Ma were guests on Nancy Sit's radio show promotiong new series "A Handful of Love" and a group of fans waited outside the radio station for them. After the interview, Jessica showed her friendliness as she posed for photos with each of them.

Talking of Joe's fans who had come over especially from Japan to say happy birthday to him. Jessica says that she also met some Japanese fans earlier and although they had a language barrier, they were all still very happy. It turns out that she does keep in touch with her fans on the internet and they are mostly female like Joe's fans, however there are some male fans who tend to be more shy and reserved, who just watch her from afar when they come to her events. Even at fan meets, they will never approach her for photographs and Jessica has to approach them instead. Jessica laughs: "They are both faithful and obedient, to have some fans who silently support me is a great thing."

As her parents have settled in Beijing, Jessica will call her father every year on Father's Day, but this year will be special because her father asked for a gift of some household items that they have bought in Beijing. Jessica says that her father does not put much importance on special occasions, not even his birthday.

Jessica Hsuan, Joe Ma, Mimi Lo and Natalie Wong were among the cast members at a promotion for "A Handful of Love" yesterday. As Jessica was both fatigued from the heat and a little hungry, she was feeling unwell and needed to rest in the car. With the 32 degree heat and the event taking place outdoors, the cast members took their turns to introduce their characters in the show before splitting into teams to play games in the lake, however Jessica was unable to take part.

After some rest and having something to eat, Jessica felt a lot better and said: "As I had nothing in my stomach, I was feeling a little weak and dizzy. Also I knew I would have to row the boat with some children and I didn't want to risk it."

Model Sofie Rahman (Lee Ka Wai) and Joe Ma took part in a promotional event yesterday and revealed their rather racy advertisement with Sofie dressed in a very sexy outfit and a topless Joe placing his head on her chest.

Already having a remarkable figure, Sofie has signed as a spokesperson for a breast enhancement product and she says she has always been envious of the foreign models and their larger breasts. When asked whether as a model, it is better to have a flatter chest, Sofie says that this is not the case because a more balanced body looks better. She also says that she dare not wear low cut tops before but she will even wear them on the catwalk now because she has increased her confidence. She is happy to have gone from a 31A to a 33B.

Joe Ma has reduced his waist from 38 inches to 33 inches and he hopes to be able to lose another seven to eight pounds. When asked if he was embarrassed about his ads with Sofie, he says that he was not really leaning on her, so he was not embarrassed, but he was more scared about her revealing herself. When asked if he had to run this by with his wife before making such a daring ad, he says that he does not need to as she used to be a model too and understands the nature of the work.

There were reports yesterday that after Lawrence Ng, Joe Ma is the most likely male TVB artiste to attract rumours, but Joe points out that he has not had many rumours and is not afraid that this will affect his image. When asked if he will be keeping his distance from female artistes in the future, he says he will not because the magazines write these things all the time and if they are not spreading romantic rumours, they will say that I have fallen out with my co-stars.

[The Sun]

Finally with his newly found success at TVB, Joe Ma has fulfilled his ambition to become a home-owner as reports indicate that he has bought a home in the Clearwater Bay area worth over four million dollars in the hope of creating a peaceful and comfortable environment for his wife and son as well as rescue his marriage with a new start.

Having shot to stardom after filming "Triumph in the Skies" for TVB and recently gaining a spokesperson contract for a slimming company, Joe has met with fame and fortune and this late spurt in his career makes him want to buy some property. From the real estate information, thirty-five year old Joe has been looking at homes in the Clear Water Bay area, but in the end it was Maggie Cheung who introduced him to this place and he has just spent over $4million on the house and its rooftop space that is just one street away from Maggie's home.

Before his rise in popularity, Joe's income was limited to renting a village house in Clear Water Bay, but it was only last year when his gossip reports were getting out of hand that his wife got angry and took their son with her to Europe. She reportedly left their home to move into a home in Tseung Kwan O. However, Joe appears to have won her over again, so he is settling down in a home they can call their own.

Jessica Hsuan, Joe Ma and Don Li were among the cast members at a promotional event for "A Handful of Love" yesterday and Jessica, who was playing games with all the children from the show, was asked when she would be having kids of her own. She laughed: "Sooner or later, the best thing would be to have mixed twins and get it over with in one go. (If you don't have kids soon, you will be an older mother.) Not so fast! I have friends around me who are having children at 38 and 39."

Jessica's new contract will take effect as of October and the series she is making in August will be the last on her old contract, working with Sunny Chan. In the series, she plays a judge and she laughs that she is getting older now so she cannot stand up for too long. Judges are allowed to sit down so this is much more comfortable! Moreover, in the hot sun, she can sit inside the court set in the cool air conditioning, so this show should be quite enjoyable to film. Also, there have been reports that TVB boss Lok Yik Ling has indicated that Gallen Lo will soon be returning to TVB, but Jessica says that she has not heard this from them, so she will not add any comment. However, everyone has their own ways of thinking at different times. She feels that the company is always the best because it is a very stable environment and is suited to her as she just seeks stability and security. She also feels protected, so she has been happy in the past twelve years.

When it was suggested that the competition is not as fierce now with so many people leaving, Jessica indicates that she has never cared about the competition and she just does her own job. There are many different qualities of people in the company and each artiste has their own characteristics. This is normal. At the moment the leading females at TVB are becoming fewer and fewer, having been labelled as the top female lead, Jessica says: "I don't care for this title, I have never been bothered or fought for anything."

Joe turned up at the event half an hour late and he explained that this was due to a road closure which he was not aware of. When asked if he had been on holiday to Italy earlier, Joe was surprised that the press knew, but he openly admitted that he had been away with his wife, but his son couldn't go because he had chickenpox.

With earlier reports that he had bought an apartment to patch up his relationship with his wife, he says: "I have been looking for a property for a few years and there are no problems between us. Even if I get rumours, she never believes them. (Cathy Tsui has said you are very handsome and wants to ask the producer of 'Hearts of Fencing 2' to give you a kiss scene?) If the show needs it then I don't mind, she is also a very beautiful girl."

Joe Ma, Vivien Yeo, Yoyo Chan, Charmaine Lee Carlene Aguilar, Koey Wong, Vivian Lok and Charles Szeto were among the cast members from "Prints on Red Sands" who were filming on Lido Bay in a beach volleyball competition scene. As the beach was opposite the bay where the poisoned mosquitos are said to originate from and all the cast were wearing just shorts and sports tops, did they all have protection against the mosquitos?

It turns out that the majority of them did not know how to avoid the mosquitos, saying they had not done any preparation. Koey looked puzzled as she said: "I don't know, I haven't put on any repellant. Luckily I have not been bitten. Recently I have been filming for this and 'Police Cadet Brave Hearts' and have only had about an hour's sleep a day." As for Vivien, she also said: "I did not know that Ma Wan was opposite, but I have not been bitten."

Vivien was praised for having a great figure and she laughs: "This outfit is very difficult to wear, even if you are a little bit fat, it will be very obvious, so I am always afraid that I am looking fat and trying not to eat too much. Sometimes I am so hungry that I get a little dizzy, so it is hard work, but I have to eat because of the amount of exercise we do when we are filming and the pressure is quite hard. Being praised makes it all seem worth it though because I have gone from 54 kg to just 50 kg. (Have you been heckled on the beach at all?) Some guys have come and said 'Hi' to me, but they have not been rude and are quite nice."

Also, producer Chin Kwok Wai indicates that Jacky Cheung will have a guest appearance in the show and in August, the cast and crew will be heading to Australia for location filming at the Gold Coast and the Great Barrier Reef. He says: "There is an 80% chance of us going to Australia, but it has not been confirmed yet and we have to go and check the locations again. Cathy Tsui has to go back to England for her studies, so she will be leaving us on 3rd or 4th September. Also Jacky Cheung will be guest starring on Thursday as a member of the audience on the beach, watching the competition."

Joe says that if they go to Australia, then he will definitely go diving at the Great Barrier Reef. He says: "Filming 'Hearts of ...2' has been very comfortable, but I have been swotting up on my Olympic Games knowledge recently because I will be hosting the live Olympic broadcast for the first time. I remember when I hosted a live show for the first time around nine years ago, I was so inexperienced that my lips were shaking during the show!"

Joe Ma has been extremely busy lately and as well as filming series, he has also been shooting one advertisement after another. Earlier, he was invited to be the face of an internationally renowned courier company in a rare move for them to ask an artiste to help promote their services. It would appear that Joe has a lot of ties with Hong Kong International Airport, being able to film in many highly restricted areas. After "Triumph in the Skies", there were some openings of stores on the airside shopping centre and now he has been invited into the cargo operation for filming by the courier company. Joe indicates that it was a new experience for him filming in the cargo centre and although we often use the courier companies in everyday life, this is the first time he has seen at first hand exactly how busy the Hong Kong logistics business can be.

Ada Choi and Joe Ma have been chosen as ambassadors for the Hong Kong Post e-Cert service and were at a promotional event for the internet services in Tsing Yi yesterday, where they were presented with certificates of appointment. Joe indicates that he often buys things from the internet and he feels that it is a very convenient way to buy the things he likes and with the digital certification, he is even more at ease with this. When asked if he has ever met with criminals using his identity, he says he has never encountered this, but he has been concerned about identity theft, so he will always check his credit card bill carefully every month and he will only buy the things from the internet that he cannot buy readily in Hong Kong from internet sites that have been recommended to him by friends he trusts in order to stay safe.

As well as being the e-Cert ambassador, Joe will also be an election ambassador and he laughs that he keeps seeing himself on a lot of posters, even on the postboxes and this is quite amusing. Talking of reports that due to a bad reflection that some artistes give to showbiz, then there is consideration being given to stop allowing artistes to represent governmental campaigns, Joe responds to this, saying that not every artiste has negative press and even if some do wrong, they will be punished by the law and they should be given a chance to change. Anyone can make mistakes and he hopes that they will not measure artistes by this standard.

Ada says that she will usually buy VCD's from the internet because it is not always convenient for artistes to buy them from outside because it loos bad if they have to climb to the top shelf to get things, but on the net, it is easier and more convenient and these embarrassing situations can be avoided. She also says that she is quite careful of her money and being able to use credit cards on the internet, it is both convenient and rewarding in terms of loyalty points on the card. With the digital certificate, then it is even more convenient because in addition to the extra offers, you can even pay parking fines on the internet and this will save problems when you forget.

In response to the suggestions of the government departments being wary of using aristes for promotion, Ada says that artistes have a certain element of attraction and they have the respect of many citizens and therefore have a great value for promotional purposes, as a result the government should be careful who they select. However, being careful does not mean discounting particular artistes, after all everyone has their own merits. She is part of Hong Kong and also an artiste, so she hopes that she is able to give something back to society within her ability. As for why she was chosen for this job, she laughs: "I am pretty! Actually, it is because I am stable and serious about my work and have a healthy image."

Since finding fame in "Triumph in the Skies", Joe Ma has been heavily promoted by TVB, with one series after another as well as hosting the Olympic Games coverage. Together with the endless stream of advertisements, Joe has finally risen to become a luxury homeowner.

Joe originally lived with his wife and son in a rented apartment in Tseung Kwan O, but he has recently bought a 16 year old luxury villa in Sai Kung for over $4 million. The house is 1200 square feet with a 1000 square feet rooftop and an average cost of $3,300 per square foot.

Reports from the estate agencies reveal that Joe agreed on the sale just a week after viewing because the demand for these properties is very high and the house has open surroundings and a beautiful view, hence speeding up Joe's decision. When asked about this, Joe indicated that he has bought a property, but was reluctant to reveal any more information.

With the heavy promotion behind the sequel to "Hearts of Fencing" - "Prints on Red Sands", the cast including Cathy Chui, Joe Ma, Charmaine Lee, Jenny Cheung, Koey Wong, Yoyo Chan, Charles Szeto and Vin Choi were recently flown out to Cairns in Australia for some location filming. The usual blessing ceremony was still carried out over there with roast pork, chicken and oranges made as offerings in the hope that the filming was to go smoothly as the fun-packed seven days included parachuting, bungee jumping and underwater activities. A group of fans were on hand at the airport to welcome the well bronzed group back to Hong Kong yesterday.

The shoot took place in the Milla Milla falls and Great Barrier Reef, with the female stars appearing in their swimsuits against such beautiful backdrops, sunshine and sea and showing off their youthful beauty. Among them, Yoyo was the most eyecatching because she was wearing a bikini, but she indicated that her tan is rather uneven because she dare not stay out in the sun too long due to the hole in the ozone layer, so she will be topping up her tan in Hong Kong. During filming at the Barrier Reef, the cast did some diving among the world famous coral reef and enjoyed this beautiful underwater world. Cathy, Koey and Jenny made the most of combining work with leisure by also doing the underwater stroll that left them extremely excited. For Koey, who cannot swim, she let out a great scream as she entered the water, but afterwards, she indicated how amazing the experience was for her.

Producer Chin Kwok Wai indicated that the shoot went very well and Charles and Vin had so much fun bungee jumping that they did not want to leave. Even Charmaine who was worried about her parachute jump went ahead with it, despite feeling pressure as she jumped from the plane. She indicates that as the script says that she will jump, then she just closed her eyes and followed the directions of the instructor and as she jumped out of the plane, she felt like she was flying and this was a very valuable experience for her.

Joe Ma and Bobo Chan will soon start filming for the new serial "Ching Mai Hak Sam Lam" ("Love In the Dark Forest", roughly translated. The official English name is unknown at this time). Since they are to play two master bakers in the show, they went to Hotel JW Marriott yesterday to learn some baking basics from a chef there.

Bobo looked rather clumsy. She explained with a smile, "I used to bake, but nothing difficult. Just those simple cakes. Haven't touched baking in a long time, so I'm a bit rusty. Actually, I'm not too bad at cooking either. My best dishes are oyster sauce chicken wings and sesame chicken wings." When asked whether she cooked those for her boyfriend, Bobo said, "No, I don't even bother. I'm not exactly a good chef yet, so my family gets to test the new dishes first! Don't want to scare others away."

Joe says a lot of people have made cakes for him over the years, including his wife and fans. He adds that his wife is really good at making Italian cheesecakes, which are his favorite. Asked whether it is important for women to cook well, Joe said, "Yeah, I think they should know how to cook, because food is an excellent way to tell your loved one that you care. See? I learn how to make cakes for a new show because I care about it!"

Myolie Wu, Joe Ma, Bobo Chan and Annie Man took part in the blessing ceremony for new series "Passion for Black Forest" and for Myolie and Joe, working alongside each other again means that they will settle in very quickly. Having had short hair for a while now, Myolie has been to the salon for extensions in order to create a new image. She says: "I had just returned from Zhongshan on 11th, where I have just finished filming for 'Same Work Same Bowl', then I went to have my extensions the next day, so I could not make it in time to vote."

There were more rumours for Myolie whilst she was in Zhongshan as reports suggest that she insisted on two days rest and was often bad tempered. Myolie says with resignation: "I really don't understand why they have to write things like this. I started work as soon as I got there and if I could have two days off, then they would not have called me up so urgently. It doesn't matter though, these are little things and I am used to it."

Although she could not make it in time for the elections, Myolie was still very concerned about the results and with the 'long haired' Leung Kwok Hung being voted into the LegCo, Myolie hopes that he can truly reflect the views of the people: "I admire him because he says what he feels. (Do you think he is rather extreme?) He could do with calming it, but if he is too soft then it wouldn't be so good. (Does he need a new image before joining the Council?) No, being loud does not mean you are rude and having long hair does not mean anything either, this is just his style."

Sonija Kwok and Joe Ma were guests at the Causeway Bay Yacht Club for the "2004 Autumn Sailing Contest" modelling some latest Autumn Sailing fasions for a fashion label. Due the the hot weather, with temperatures up to 30 degrees C and the blazing noonday sun, the two were driipping with sweat and it seemed like very hard work for them.

Afterwards, Sonija and Joe were very professional and both says that the clothes they were modelling were very comfortable. Sonija said: "Although it was very hot today, but it was not as hot as the show I did earlier in America. That was also in the open, but it was much hotter than today." When Sonija was then asked whether she has been supporting her good friend Charmaine Sheh in "War and Beauty", she immediately indicated that she has and praised the show for being very entertaining, with excellent performances from all the cast.

With reports that with her recent change to a sexy image, Shirley Yeung will soon be replacing the sexy goddess position of Sonija, she says: "Everyone has their own beauty and there will always be comparisons, but I will not mind. (Have you seen Shirley's sexy photos?) No, I have not."
