Eventhough I'm Chinese, some Chinese songs have lyrics with deep meanings that I don't understand. But as long as the songs sound nice, I'll go for them. Nevertheless, being able to understand the song can cause me to like the song more, especially if it is meaningful.

Me too. I listen to all kinds of languages korean jap and chinese except for my own mother tongue
language. Whenever my friends listen to my mp3 they will go like what kind of music are you listening to.
But listening to other languages which you dont understand a thing is cool. I just love the sound of the languages.

I listen to only Asian music and I`m english. Many people listen to Italian/Spanish music, so really not much difference. You listen more to the emotion of the music when you can`t understand the words. Mandarin is just so beautiful to listen to.

i say not understanding and liking what youre listening to is better than agonizing yourself with some you understand and dont like. like that...

OMG, I totalli agree with u. Sometimes it's better 2 not understand the lyrics. I listen to music bcuz of the melody and feel of the song. Don't even listen 2 viet or English songs anymore cuz the viet songs I lik r always remakes from Korean and Chinese songs.

Yeah. I have no idea what half of the chinese songs mean.

Unless i read the lyrics, i'll have no idea what i'm listening to. I listen to Japanese, Korean... songs and obviously i have no clue what the singer is singing.
I feel that s'long as you like the song, the meaning doesnt really matter.

even though i'm chinese, i have a super hard time understanding the deep meanings of lyrics...i'm cbc, so i can't read chinese well enough and understand the meaning right away...but it helps to know what the singers are singing about, it makes the song more enjoyable...most of the songs that i like are because i understand the meaning of it...however, i do listen to japanese and korean stuff too just because it sounds so good...but like someone said, sometimes not knowing what the singer is talking about can be a blessing...case in point: Nelly Furtado's maneater and Fergie's fergalicious...god those are horrible songs..the lyrics make no sense...

for me, i'm chinese.. but sometimes, when i listen to chinese songs, i won't totally understand what's the song singing about.. especially jay chou's songs.. the words are very difficult and the sentences is not commonly used in simple life.. but i still like it.. besides that, i also listen to japanese & korean music recently.. what attract me most is their melody.. sometimes, it did encourage me to learn their language and figure what they are singing.. i do try to sing even though i don't understand what they are singing..

I like to listen to Jpop and Cpop. I don't understand it either

Cause i'm also Viet. The reason why I don't want to listen to Viet music is that I don't really like their popmusic >.<

I am american and I listen to japanese and korean music. I can't understand a word of it but thankfully I manage to get some translations from this board and another board. It doesn't bother me that I don't understand a word of it because I can get the translations. One of my favorites is Rurutia. She has a beautiful voice and her music is amazing. A friend and I download some of the songs we hear on the korean dramas we watch because we really enjoy the music.

^^ OF COURSE!!! I don't think you have to be able to understand what they're saying as long as you enjoy the music. After all, music is a universal language as they say. =] I know some people don't think this way, but hey... *shrugs* Why do a lot of people listen to classical music? There isn't anyone even singing in them but a lot of people all over the world listen to it. I think people need to widen their horizons a bit and experience some new music. Listen even if you can't understand. You'll learn to love it. xD Hehehe...

even though i don't understand what the song is on about, the tune is still good. it's actually fun listening to other languages.
