I know this has been said in a few other threads....but i just can't help but start another one...i have consolidated all my opinions in one.

okay i know i'm probably going to get bashed by some die-hard myolie fans...but this is a feeling I have that I just can't ignore and i just need to vent!!

i find Myolie and her acting and her character in this serious annoying, offensive, unrefreshing and stupid.

First of all she is NOT fat...why are ppl making such a big hype over her "gain in weight" for this series. Personally - i dont think she gained enough. Myolie is not fat enough! Btw ppl her size are NOT clumsy.

Secondly...she is NOT optismistic! She's just plain stupid.

Thirdly, I understand that "comedies" need to stereotype for humour...BUT i think it's done totally inappriopriately and offensively in this series. She creates the impression that fat ppl are all annoying and stupid (and desperate)...and THEY ARE NOT!

Fourthly - are girls really that desperate in hk?

Fifthly - she is NOT loveable...or cute for that matter

Sixthly - she is NOT bridget jones - bridget jones was actually smart and funny and witty - and hence respectable! There is nothing to respect or like about Myolie's character @ all (on this not...Andy Hui is not ANYWHERE NEAR Mr Darcy....what an insult to compare the two!) Mr Darcy is Incomparable!!! =)

7thly - when i first saw myolie in miss hk ...i said to my sister "that girl looks like miss piggy"...she has just proven me right

8thly - I think the purpose of this series to tell us that it's inside beauty that counts - I don’t think I can say that I like myolie's "character" . She's just so darn annoying! I think if I had a friend like her in real life…I would be avoiding her quite a bit. She does not have "inside beauty".....

9thly - she is OVER ACTING! after this series - I have concluded that Myolie CAN'T ACT! I must admit - I was very impressed by her in Golden Faith and I thought she was good then - but since then - I have not seen any other series in which she was in where she did not overact or was impressive! She does not deserve to win the TVB award for this!

okay i'm going to stop now ...overall - am very disappointed in this series.

Well, she already gained like 40 lbs, so what do you think is enough?? 80 lbs? Gaining so much weight already hurted her body. -.- And no, Im not a fan of hers... It isn't her fault that she's "clumsy". Its probably what the producer, or director wanted.

And, if you don't like the way she is protraying a "fat" person, then DON'T watch the series. How hard is that? >.<

well she does seem a bit annoying in this series but at least i like her in the series, whereas in other series i really dislike myolie because she's annoying lols

Though I'm not myolie's fan myself, I dont think she herself is annoying. The character, in the other hand, may be a little bit annoying at some times. HOwever, this has nothign to do with her..it's the script and storyline..As of her acting wise, how can an acting be annoying? It is the character, not the acting. She portrayed her characterl really well.Okay, some people say it is offensive towards fat people. It is again, the storyline. Blame the producer.

As of whether her character is optimistic or plain stupid, it depends on how you look at it. I personally dont think she is stupid though, although I also dont think her as optimistic..

You see, the thing is, she did not create the impression. The producer created the impression.

Myolie's character doesnt have inner beauty? Well, I think she does. She feels all guilty for playing pranks on andy, she brought claire to andy without telling him she was the one who brought her.

i find myolie's character annoying, not her acting. myolie's acting is alright.

I totally agree with what was said in the above. Myolie's character is REALLY annoying in this series for many reasons.

No, Myolie is definately not FAT. Obviously, if you compare her to 90 lbs Selina is is fat. There are people that are way fatter than her living in this world. She's more chubby than fat.. and shes just overweight by 40 pounds, not 100. I'm not saying she should of gained anymore weight.. but i just disagree at the fact that people point at her (in the show) and say shes as fat as a pig. Haven't they seen people that are even fatter than her? In Andy's brother's wedding scene, when Myolie was helping him put on his shoe.. Andy accidently kicked her and she fell. They really exaggerrated that scene with the huge "THUD" noise like it was an earthquake or something. Oh please.. that will never happen in real life, maybe it seems more realistic for someone thats like 800 pounds but 150 lbs? I don't think so.

I just HATE Myolie's character.. she is NOT cute. shes so desperate to find a guy thats "sum ling seung tong". I mean look at how much Kenneth loves her! He did so much for her.. why does she always have to go back and think of Andy? She's so selfish! All she cares about is her own love. Why did she agree to marry Kenneth when in her heart she still had When Andy was still in her heart? when andy got into the car accident and lost his memory, I can't believe gigi wong advised myolie to do the most CHILDISH and LAMEST thing in the world.. to pretend that she was his girlfriend, get him fat and stuff. I mean, those ideas are for FIVE YEAR OLDS! Who in the world is that babyish to waste time to do those stupid things? Who wrote the script ?!?! They are so selfish and greedy, all the care about is getting revenge. What about his family? What about his girlfriend? How ridiculous. The fact that Myolie is overacting is probably because of the script, so I don't blame her. But her acting is quite overexaggerated and it really bothers me. Sometimes I even think that Selina's acting is better than hers when i'm watching, and Selina is a lot prettier too.

I don't understand at ALL why andy would like her.. choosing Myolie over Claire? Myolie is fat, clumsy and shes not pretty, and plus shes very annoying and stupid. Claire on the other hand is slim, pretty and smart.

Yep I agree...I think that is why she did not win any awards for this character. It looked like she focused so much on the gaining weight part she forgot to put anything more to her character.

arg ok as a myolie fan, i still have to say that she is a bit annoying in every series..it isn't her fault though its "fei tin" fault, that is her personality so this means good acting since i guess fei tins personality is annoying so myolie has gotta act like her right? i've got to agree with youre 9th reason, as a myolie fan it is not easy admitting these thinsg about your idol, however i don't think she just can't act just she over reacted in this particular series, its new and she has neve rplayed a role being fat before so of course she wouldn't be the best at it you cna't blame her. plus every role is different, she may be bad at this and good at another kind of role ya know? although selene li pisses me off, i ahte her character! myolie is fat just like give her matthew! i agree Myolie's character in this series, Fei Teen, is petty annyoing in this series.
She needs to mind her own business, and decide for herself who she wants to marry and who she does not want to marry. BUT she goes off minding other pple's business as well, (Ah Lok , that she should not marry Ka Fai for the money and etc.. it MAY be wrong, but heck let Ka Fai and Ah Lok themself decide)...
another thing where she was nosy was when she helped Rachel with wearing the clothes and was telling Rachel that Tai 4 Hei and her spend a night on the streets, and then another night in a hotel... WTF is that for..... and all that is because she doesn't want Rachel to have misunderstandings... THE HELL, Fei Teen is creating the misunderstandings now. Let Tai 4 Hei tell his girlfriend himself he did all those with Fei Teen.

so all in all, I think she definitely deserves the 2 FACE claps from her dad and Ah Lok

I don't blame Myolie. I rather think it might be the director who wanted her to exagerate. People her size is not that clumsy in real life. When she runs and stuff, she looks that she got tons of weight on her.

I agree with th1s_sweet on Myolie's revenge on Andy part. That was so childish. I was starting to like the series when suddenly the scripwriter(s) gave me this stupid plot.

On the other hand. I do like Jack's character. He's very sensible.

It's her character what made her stupid. Wish she can have better characters in future, a lovely, good, strong girl. ^^ Yeah that's what I rocks for. Hope the Wars of in Laws sequel will have a good character for her, at least not annoying.

I've only watched up to Ep 7 so I can only comment on what I've seen so far.

With respect to her being "fat". No, she's not THAT fat. she's supposed to weigh approx 150 lbs in this series and I weigh more than she does, and I don't really consider myself fat - well, maybe just a bit! hehe (All right - I am fat!) But when you compare to many HK girls, there appears to be a big contrast as slimming is such a trend in HK these days. I also think Myolie purposely chose certain clothes that would make her look fatter than she is.

As to fat people being clumsy? Well, based on my own experience, i am clumsy to a certain degree. haha..

I think Myolie's acting is ok - she's acted in comedies before so her acting is not so fresh to me. Nevertheless, I'm enjoying the series.

I guess my conclusion is not to take TVB series so seriously. I watch it for the humour.. .. and it is relaxing to watch these kind of series. They purposely did exagerrate (<--- can't spell) in many occassions but it is done to make people laugh. Hope people don't be offended as to how TVb portrayed fat people b/c I'm not (and yes, I am fat).

i think she is really really annoying in this series..the way she talks and acts...and she overdo her acting...and i hate when she takes adventage of andy when he lost his memories...this series is stupid...and i find she is so bossy...i feel so sorry for a fei...he does everythings for her...in my view, i think she should be with a fei not andy...leave andy and rachel alone since andy and rachel been dating for long time...and myolie knows it from the beginning that andy and rachel are dating...she shouldn't step her feets in...

I don't get why you guys are bashing on Myolie when it's her character. Its not Myolie's fault that she is annoying in the series. ITs more like who ever is the director and script writer. I think Myolie did a really good job in this series

her character is quite jokes. especially wen her minds wanders off and she starts thinkin of madness, it reminds me scrubs. i dont think its annoyin tho.

The one thing I find annoying (other than portions of the storyline) is her voice. I think her weight gain caused her voice to turn sweet, which is annoying.

True, she isn't "fat" but for someone that didn't know about the hype of her weight...she is fat. Believe me, a couple of people who knew nothing about her weight gain and saw her in the first episode went "WOAH, what happened?" Its not like Myolie had a lot of time to gain the weight and its not like she can become "fat" that easily either. For any other actress, I can see it happening but not Myolie. Every other actress I have seen at least a little bit bigger than what they are now but Myolie has been stick skinny from day one.

Don't blame Myolie for the stereotypes because she didn't write the script. I honestly don't think there's any way she could've won best actress for this role because there's no substance to this series. I mean, its just a typical love story with a message behind it but its not anything out of the ordinary. These are the types of series that are aired at the beginning of the year and get no buzz for the anniversary show. But since TVB wants publicity...they made the weight gain publicity...but if Myolie didn't have to gain weight, it would be a typical non-hyped series.

I'm the type of person who doesn't like everything hyped, I actually turn against it but I think Myolie deserves every bit of publicity she got for the weight gain. Saying gaining weight is so easy, all you have to do is eat is a stereotype just like how they stereotype fat people.

She keeps on going on and on about finding a guy who is sum ling siong tung with her. There are lots of couples out there who do not see eye to eye on everything or most things and they still work out because they love each other. Isn't the most important thing love?

I agree with this, i find it so unrealistic that she keeps going for andy hui because of this reason when the guy treated her like trash and the onli reason y he nice to her now is because he remembers their time together after his accidient in the phillipines? i mean come on its so stupid!

I really really think she's over-acting in this series and this really makes her annoying. The way she portrays a fat person is just clumsy. She's not fat by any means but she portrays herself as very fat and clumsy.

You can't say that Myolie herself is annoying...I mean hello she's acting. Also if you do find her annoying then that means she really can act and she portrayed the character well. Plus I'm sure this is what the director asked of her so she's just doing what she's told to do. I like Myolie and I think this wasn't so bad. There are lame parts to the movie but what movie have you really seen that didn't have any lame parts in it?

I think this wasn't so bad either. Her acting is not annoying but her character is, the character she acted. Yeah i totally agreed, its the more like the director and script writer's fault for making her character so annoying. I think Myolie did a really good job in this series.

The most annoying and evil person in this series is Miss Beautiful(the land lady)Always trying to sabatage people's wedding for her own pleasure. She's taking her anger and bitterness out on her failed marriage on Claire and Selena's characters.


She was a major bit*ch in that sereis. Also l really hate her hair style.


Second is Myolie who thinks she's OH SO DARN CUTE! Sometimes her acting makes me want to gag my yesterday's lunch. She's probably a size 10 which is average in most north american coutries, before she was rail thin like a size 00.

Uh. I don't think her character is meant to be annoying. She's the main character. Viewers are supposed to root for her. The main guy is supposed to fall in love with her because of her personality despite her being big size. But it's not Myolie's fault. It's more the fault of the scriptwriter/producer/whover created the story.

I don't like how she was "clumsy" either because it's so unrealistic and stupid but I also remind myself that it is not her, it's her character. It's not just to find a person annoying just because they are portraying a character the writers want to portray.
Gaining too much weight and on such a fragile frame is detrimental to a person's body. You can't expect a person to balloon for a show and disregard their own health. Also, they have a career to think of. This may or may not be the height of her career so she can't spend forever losing weight. In China or anywhere in fact due to new societal standards, Myolie would have been considered fat. It's all perspective.
For most of your criticisms, it's really just her character. I think she could improve her acting but I personally aren't that annoyed by it. I agree she should be much better though after acting in so many series already. It's not much a concern to me though.
I don't understand why at times people can't differentiate an actor from their character. Maybe Myolie in real life annoys you with her speech, appearance, and attitude but within the series it is only just to criticize her acting. Other than that it's more logical to criticize the writers that decided to make Fei Tin lovable, clumsy, indecisive, stupid at times, naive, idealistic, fat, and so forth.
I personally like Myolie in series and I think it's because I'm biased. Triumph in the Skies was my first drama that I actually liked and she was in it. I basically like ALMOST the entire cast. Also the fact that it's a rare occassion I watch TVB dramas play a factor. Hope you see my point of view and I don't think people would be offended by your views. It's just a different perspective.

Rapid weight gain will give her a lot of stretch marks, so she can not gain a whole lot of weight. I'll admit, she is just considered chubby in the series. However, the standards for being fat in HK might be different from your standards of being fat.

I mean the stuff she did to andy's character when he lost his memory...what a b**ch! If it were someone who wasn't the female lead doing it, she'd be considered the baddie...

i dont know why but i find myolie's character very annoying in every series... especially when she cries.. like come on we all know she can cry but does she has to cry every freaken minute!! and holy when she's skinny she was already annoying but now that shes fat.. SHES MORE ANNOYING... it's either her character thats making her annoying or maybe it's just her thats annoying

i completely agree... in the beginning omg ... i was just like... what the heck?... this person needs to have some common sense beat into her... (fei tin... not myolie... lol)... i put it as her dad's rich and she's probably always gotten what she wanted... so she's spoiled... but to get a job in the fashion business and complain and do so much stuff that would normally get a person fired like 100 times and yet she still thinks she's right? that was just argh.... and because of her having to find the perfect love she caused so much pain and suffering for everyone around her... i know love is important, but it was just annoying...

as for myolie's weight gain... i can see from everyone's perspective (ie, all the other girls and how much she weighed before) that she is fat... but compared to reality as to how fat people are fat, i don't think she looked fat.... she's chubby... and the thing is myolie has always had a chubby looking face, so i just didn't see the 'excessive fatness'

a few things:

- i have to disagree that it's just her "character" that's annoying...i can't think of any other MAIN female characters on TVB who was suppose to be "cute and loveable" but ends up being annoying... i agree that her character isnt the best...but i think myolie herself contributes to the unlikeable nature of her character...maybe it's the overacting and the way she talks???

- i cant believe how mean she is to Andy. I dont understand how she can say she loves someone and yet treats them like crap. Did she really think that it was "unreasonable" for andy and claire to NOT be angry after she abused the fact that Andy was vulnerable? and dont blame it on leng jeh....ppl tell me to do stupid things but i dont =)

- why on EARTH would you pick myolie over claire?

i've finished this series...and i have conclued that this ranks very high on my "stupid series" and "cringe factor" scale.

agree with most of you guys, overhyped about her weight gain and not enough thoughts on character/ plot is TVB's problem.

Myolie doesn't appear 'fat' cos she's tall (or so I've heard...172cm? little over 5'7) so it takes longer to see the 'fat'

I've only watched until episode 7 and her insistence on finding the perfact love gets on my nerve. The moment she found out Matthew was not the one who painted the stalk, she immediately stop loving him. It didn't matter that Matthew was such a good guy and really liked her. She totally refused to consider him at all. You can see that Matthew was so disappointed.

And she immediately transfered her love to Daniel (Andy) the moment she knew he painted the stalk. How can a person just immediate love someone just because of this point? Yes, she told Lok (Selena) that she hasn't really loved Daniel yet, but her action and reaction showed otherwise.

Furthermore, did she has the right to get angry at Daniel? Yeah, it hurts being called a 'pig' by someone she (supposedly) loved, but she nearly ruined Daniel's relationship with his girlfriend and at that time Hei was trying to mend the relationship. Of course he would say anything to appease his girlfriend. She acted like Daniel wronged her, but all the time, she's the one in the wrong and causing trouble.

I know the amnesia part will start at episode 8. I'm not looking forward to it.

Another thing annoying about Fei Tin was her always listening to Leng Je (Gigi Wong). Did she not have a mind of her own? Why must she listen to Leng Je and did all those silly stuff?

Well..i've only seen a couple of chapter and i'm not a fan of her but i don't find her character that bad. i read some of these comments and if she really stopped likeing someone because they didn't draw a stem...i ono i just don't think if you like some1 it's because they drew a stem...but this is no personal attack because this is just her character and i myself hasn't seen up to this part yet.

I think Myolie is really quite fat in this series, I was shocked when I first watched it, and am periodically shocked all over again when I watch new episodes. For all those who say that Myolie wasn't fat in the series, you have to remember that this is a HK series and a lot of people in HK are thin, like Selena Li's size. I'm not anywhere near Fei Tin's size but when I go to HK I actually feel quite chubby because the people there, girls and boys alike, are so small. So Fei Tin is considered fat by HK standards and fat for a Chinese girl in Asia. But I suppose those of you who said she isn't fat are thinking of Western standards and sizes.

I don't understand the comparisons of this series with Bridget Jones' Diary, it's not at all similiar, besides the fact that both lead actresses put on weight to play their respective roles. Anyway, Bridget Jones wasn't that fat by Western standards either, she was only a UK size 12 to 14, she just wasn't stick-thin like the normal lead female characters in romantic comedies.

I found myolie kinda annoying when she started playing jokes on andy while he had amnesia. frankly, even though he was mean to her and said some harsh words, I felt like they really crossed the line in trying to make him fat, etc. if he's discriminating against fat ppl, then they should prove him wrong, not play pranks. if I were him, I wouldn't have forgiven her. and yes, she's kinda bossy as this character, but think about it, she's supposed to be a spoiled, well-fed rich girl, so she's used to getting what she wants. and in the beginning, she was very happy about her fat; it was only after being around all the skinny ppl that she started to have doubts about herself.

the character I wish there was more to see was selena. they started her off kinda evil when she betrayed myolie to be w/ matthew, but I found her character more interesting to watch 'cause you can see progress in her behavior and actions, and deep down, all she wanted was to love and be loved. I thought myolie's justification of finding the perfect soul wasn't as realistic, 'cause it sounded like all she wanted was for the guy to think exactly like her on one thing, and that would be her soul mate. I think love is much more complex than being able to interpret a couple of handprints, so I thought it was kind of derivative for the story to make it so simple, and to expect that they would fall in love just because of that. I admit that the scene when andy is drawing the sunflowers was really a great moment to watch, but I also thought it was idealistic, and not very believable. I guess that's why they had to come up w/ the amnesia scene. otherwise, andy would never fall for her 'cause his own impressions and attraction towards skinny people would have been the entire driver in who he chose, and myolie would be left just loving him from afar (which I think is reality anyways).

she was just a little over weight in the series, is not like she's 200lbs. I just think HK ppl are way too realistic.
When I went back to HK pass May. I was shopping at this little clothing store and the sales lady said "with your body shape". I was like what the hell are you talking about??? I weight around 125 and I think I'm ok. I've been in the US since I was 8 years old. So i'm not one of those stick thin hk girl. and I don't wanna be. I like having a little front and back.
I just don't understand why TVB made such a series. HK ppl are say too realistic and that's just making fun of big ppl.

true, hong kong people needs a series about gaining a bit of weight....girls with Normal size, not stick skinny cos have to say it, they don't have a woman's figure...20 and 30 year olds with body of pre-puberty teenage bodies...you can't tell their age from the back cos they are just stick. back to the Myolie part. I would definitely go for Kenneth if I was her character. He loves her so much. What's with a flower and connection of souls? She might argue it's deep, but I think it's kinda shallow. Friends can think the same as well.

and what about the part how her whole family runs away from Phillipines when they found out Kenneth might be paralyzed? That annoyed me a whole lot cos aren't they saying body shape doesn't matter so long as you have a good heart? It's plan wrong running away from fiance or friend when they are in such a situation!

well i am glad to see some drama with a fat character in it. . i mean mostly all actress in hk are all soo skinny. But then its not myolie fault for being annoying buh then i didnt find her character that annoying first of all.. i mean if the director wanted to act a certain way thenn wouldnt she have tto? anyway i didnt think she was annoying at all.. well maybe some scene but otherwise she was quite cute throughout the WHOLE thing.

i havent watched this serial...so i cant judge her act in it. but from wat i know...she's a good actress with great acting. i do agree tat she didnt gain enough fat to be called really fat. she is fatter than before, but not too fat. anyway it's alr a difficult thing for her to gain weight, so i think she deserves some credit though she may not reach optimal weight to be classified as fat ppl.

I think she is a bit annoying. But I also think the story is annoying.

I know this serie is about fat people, but they have to talk about it all the time.
