Cosmopolitan july (Chinese edition).

Shuai (handsome) is a powerful approachability
HB arrived at the event right off the flight without any rest. He walked into the COSMO interview room at once. Although he's a bit tired, but once he saw the roomful of crew waiting for him, he glowed up his polite smile. The interview was only a short 40 min, but we can observe a HB off camera-- polite, shy, direct, genuine and serious. He'll nod gratefully to everybody at both ends of the room when he walked in and out of it. His eyes were always smiling with warmth, anticipating every question by anyone. He'll deliberately turn his head towards the reporter when he's listening to the question. He'll think seriously and thoroughly before answering every single question asked, yet agree without hesitating any request for autographs and photos. Actually, the real HB is much more approachable than 'samshik'.
[spoiler]HB : Half prince, half drifter
--This name and this face is highly recognizable, because even if you've only watched one Korean drama from start till end, that drama will most probably be -- MNIKSS.
--'How they've become a couple is not as simple as a fairytale, they've been through a lot. The reason why the audience were laughing and crying while watching it, was they saw a lot of details in their daily lives portrayed in this drama. That's why I said, JH and Samsoon, these 2 can really be together, don't you think so?'
No cliches, no doomed lovers, no sickness, fatal car accidents (but HJ has some cancer, and JH WAS in some accident...) or mistaken identity, this is a story that you will laugh and cry and watch it in one go. We kept Samshik in our hearts, and also HB...this single eyelidded (double), dimpled, sometimes cool, other times mischievious, no matter what outrageous color of shirts, he's still stylish... kinda boy.
So, everybody will habitually brand him as the image in his rise-to-fame phenom as a 'rich prince' -- handsome, cool, ambitious and with a drive to succeed. And in the love department, he must be through some pain and jaded, needs an ordinary, but independent, confident cinderella in the modern cityscape to comfort and soothe this 'filthy rich prince'.
In his new work 'SQ' HB's muscled manly boxer completely discarded his past image, we can't even tell a hint of that cute, naughty boy in Cyon Chocolate CFs. He's grew out his facial hair, his body has become rugged and strapping, his muscles have become more and more prominent and defined. Even his long lidded eyes transformed from stubborn naivete to complicated weariness.
When HB approaches, the chaotic room shut up to a eerie silence. He's taller than we thought (even more imposing than his bodyguards), under the inviting and observing eyes of everyone, his shyness and unease betrayed his seemingly stately strides, which grew wider with the pressure of the flashes. In the end, he was almost in a sprint, entering the VIP room for the interview, locking the eyes following him outside.
The real incarnation of a blueblooded gentleman
HB in real life is 'samshik' in flesh and blood --- a blueblooded gentleman with esteemed, graceful manners and superiority, yet humble and low-key, all combined into one.
A single kid (he has a brother) from a middle class family in Korea, graduated from the best drama school in the country (I'm not sure...), he got the role of MNIKSS almost as soon as he started in this business ( this is not true, MNIKSS was his second full length drama role let alone NNS4...), the drama elevated the actor, and the actor popularized the drama. It stirred up a redhot storm in half of Asia in no time, so swift that he had no time to ponder on how redhot he is. When bombarded with the frenzy of the media and diehard fans in China, he showed his humble and naive side as a blueblooded gentleman, ignorant to this unknown, vast China market---he had no idea how popular he is in China?!
I can't help but asked about MNIKSS, this is the drama that gave HB his recognition, and also one of his fav. The lines coming out of this prince's mouth, when we're listening to them, there's a realism to it that made us forget those were simply lines in the script. Hearing 'samshik' saying 'samsoon' in my face, seems like time has turned back to the drama.
Cosmo: That drama is too popular, you have many fans in China, almost everybody who had watched the drama loves you, men, women, grannies and children alike.
HB: Frankly, I know that my career is developing in a steady pace in Asia lately, but I would never have expected I'm this popular in China (grins). I am still grateful to MNIKSS, the character in it was too lovable, so I have stolen some glory from the main character. Personally, I like this character that I've portrayed very much too. Afterall I was still a newcomer, I was able to get the recognition so early in my career, I felt very fortunate.
Cosmo: Do you know, coz of MNIKSS, there's a term called 'No woman' invented in China. [Cosmo had also researched on why a lot of ladies with less than appealing appearance can attain great popularity among friends and acquintances and to top it all, have a fulfilling love life.] Do you feel that what happened in the drama can happen in the real world? A handsome rich guy like JH, will really fall for an older 'no woman' with nothing to boast about in reality?
HB: 'No woman'? This is an interesting terminology! This is the first time I've heard of it. A lady like samsoon, though she may not have the advantage in beauty or physique, she has many qualities that can't be found in many girls. For example, tenacity, perseverance, her values and believes, her optimism.... In the TV drama, the scriptwriter and the PD didn't just portray the possibility of Samsoon and JH falling for each other, they emphasized on the details on the process on how they fall for each other in totality. You can witness, how they got together is not as simple as a fairytale, they have been through a lot. Why you'll laugh and cry along, I believe it's coz a lot of people saw glimpses of their daily lives. So, JH and samsoon can really be a real couple, don't you think?
Cosmo: A lot of Korean women nowadays ar not only successful in their career, they also have their own opinions in life. This is very different from the traditional female role in society, what are your thoughts on that?
HB: When I was little, I thought that woman should stay at home and take care of the family, just like my mom's generation. But as I grow older, I've observed that a lot of ladies around me not only excelled in their careers, they can also handle their family lives magnificantly. I have always admired women like them, especially in the entertainment business, the gender roles are differently defined compared to other walks of life. In our business, we are partners in cooperation. In general, if I met a girl who has her own dreams and career, and she works hard to set them in motion, I'll have a good impression on her, I'll respect and admire her, and even fall for her.
