Kr to Ch: irbi@biwithrain
Ch to Eng: rayndrop

Hi everybody, I'm the Cloud Master.

Today, I'll like to announce matters regarding the lightstick which everybody has been anticipating and showing much concern about.

In the process of completing the beautiful lightstick design, we had the help of many warm-hearted Clouds. Once again, we'll like to give our deepest appreciation to each and everyone who has helped us.

This lightstick was made so everybody can cheer for Rain during his Rain World Tour concerts with it. The design of this lightstick, as approved by Rain, is a letter "R" in representation of "Rain". We hope that in future, more fans will use the lightstick and wave it in the air to cheer Rain on.

We are still in discussion on the method of purchase and delivery for this lightstick. As there has been a lot of requests, we are showing everybody the design of this lightstick before the official notice on how to purchase it.

We will work on the purchase details as fast as possible and announce them to everybody.

Thank you.

06.11.27 KTW said "Bi is thrifty!"

Singer Kim Tae Woo (KTW) said "Rain is thrifty... He seldom treat people meal..."

KTW, the singer who is from the same entertainment agency as World Star RAIN, performed in a musical program of KBS 2TV on Nov 25. In this program, KTW has mentioned Rain's thrifty character in a humourous way: It's very difficult to ask Rain to treat a meal!

KTW recalled and agreed that Rain has changed a lot now, compared to the time when he was still a newbie. And his changes are much greater than KTW's. However, one thing of Rain that never change is: He seldom treats people eating.

There was once KTW questioned Rain who is one year younger than him, "Hey that's not good..." Guess what Rain said? "Hyung is so called 'hyung' because they treat the younger, right?"

Singer Star who attended the same program also added, "One day Rain invited us to barbeque shop... At the end he said that he forgot to bring wallet... So finally the bill was paid by his assistant using company's credit card...."

Nonetheless, both KTW and Star did agree that Rain is a very considerate person. His concern and caring to juniors are always shown in his attitude. (Haha they said something good in the end because told bad things about Rain?nah~~ kidding!)
Well, they think that Rain is very busy in these few years, and he doesn't even have time to eat with friends.

Thanks nicolewsf for the song translations. Much appreciated. wonder if anyone knows the english translation to his song "Still Believe" (the BMW song)? If anyone does, please post. Thanks a bunch!!

That would be cool that he is planning to extend his tour to other places here in the US. It would make it a lot easier for me to travel. Although he do need to rest up first. From the past postings, it had mentioned that he's here in the U.S.,..........where??? just wondering. might decide to do some stalking, when i find the time in my busy schedule. what is he doing here anyways?? just curious.

Cyborg and The Restless Pre-Sales at AFM (2006/11/29)

Sales and Distribution arm of Korea's CJ Entertainment concluded a number of deals on pre-sales of director Park Chan-wook's "I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK" and JO Dong-oh's The Restless at the American Film Market which wrapped up earlier this month.

PARK's Cyborg is being billed as romantic-comedy, and stars Im Soo-jeong and Korea's hottest international pop-star Rain in his big-screen debut. The domestic release of the film is scheduled for December 7th, and is rated 12, marking it the first General Admission rating for the director. PARK is known internationally for his bloody revenge trilogy, the second installment of which, "Old Boy" won the Grand Prize at Cannes in 2004.

While the script is still under wraps, the film was sold on the strength of its director, the unusual synopsis, and its star-power. Pre-sales in south-east Asia, where actor Rain is a pop phenomenon, went to Golden Scene for Hong Kong, M Pictures for Thailand, Encore Films for Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, and DHD for Vietnam. The film was also sold to PT Parkit for India, and Ama Films for Greece, while a major deal for France, where PARK's films are well-received, is on the verge of conclusion.

Martial arts fantasy "The Restless", also created a buzz, with technical staff from stellar swordplay film Musa: The Warrior, Akira Kurosawa's costume designers, and Hero's art director all working together to create a the setting of a netherworld somewhere between death and reincarnation. It stars Korean wave celebrity JEONG Woo-sung and was filmed at the Hengdian Studios in China on a budget of US$9 million.

CJ Entertainment provided a 15-minute trailer of the film which was enough to seal pre-sales deals to Splendid for Germany and the Benelux territories, Central Partnership for Russia, Shapira Films for Israel, Eco Films for Portugal, D Productions for Turkey, PT Parkit for India, New Star for Brazil, Intersonic for the Czech and Hungarian territories, Polmedia for Poland, Bulgaria and Romania, Fivia for the ex-Yugoslavian territories, and Video Sonic for Greece. In south-east Asia rights went to Blitz for Indonesia, Sound Space for Singapore and Malaysia, Scholar for Taiwan, and Time Vision for Vietnam.

CJ Ent. also sold director Yoo Ha's A Dirty Carnival, featuring hot new star Jo In-Seong, and released locally earlier this year, to Visual Films for Brazil.

Naked scene of Rain and Im Soojung in <I'm Cyborg> has become a hot topic!!

Super star RAIN (Jeong Jihun) and Im Soojung casted in director Park's latest movie <I'm Cyborg but that's okay> (Production of Moho Film). Their naked scene of them have attracted the attention of audience.

Movie Premiere of <I'm Cyborg> was held at CGV Theatre, Seoul. <I'm Cyborg> is a latest and most imaginative production of director Park. The romance story between the roles of ISJ and JJH has become the focus ^ ^

The premiere was quite interesting especially when ISJ speaking in old-lady's tone and JJH's role is a young man who can steal other's capabilites. Also, there is a naked scene of both actors in the latter part of the movie.

In the media conference (after premiere), director Park commented the naked scene "They do so maybe because they are too cold after being soaked by rain..." . But the movie is still appropriate for audience of 12 years old and above..."

06.12.01 <I'm Cyborg> Movie Premiere

Again RAIN showed his typical 'cutie' smile when attending the premiere of his debut movie <I'm Cyborg but that's okay>

Starring by Im Soojung and Jeong Jihun (RAIN), the movie <I'm Cyborg but that's okay> held its premiere at 2pm, 1st Dec at CGV Theatre, Seoul. The main actor and actress attended this premiere as part of the publicity activities.

ISJ made a small complaint during interview, "I need to limit my food intake during filming... I didn't even have the strength to talk because I'm on diet.... But director PArk kept eating beside me..." Oh well, director Park was embarrassed and kept sweaping off the sweat on his forehead.

Moreover, ISJ and JJH showed their unique style of smilez which reflecting their roles (mental patient) in the movie. ISJ even imitated the robot motions in front of media. No wonder director Park always said that they are still acting like children, so cute and funny.

06.12.01 2006 = A fruitful year for RAIN!

It is really a fruitful year for RAIN and Zheng Liyuan (pinyin), both of them achieved great success in terms of their 'double identity' as singer and actor!

For S. Korea, singers in year 2006 are not just simply "they can sing well". In fact, in order to increase their popularity among audience and to strengthen their artist career, Korean singers have to develop multi-talents!

Among all talents, acting skill is the most challenging but also the most attractive! When singers appear in dramas or movies, the audience may think "Hey I though he/she can only sing...."
Well, it's quite common now for singers to try out in dramas. As a result, some singers may be criticised due to their acting skills.

Those popular dramas normally casted by singers, so what are the opinions of Korean drama experts regarding this issue? Recently, there were 15 drama script writers and directors were interviewed about "Who's the best actor among all singers?" The participants were requested to select 3 candidates and marked them 1, 2, 3 points.

Among male singers, Jeong Jihun (RAIN) who casted in <Sangdoo let's go to school>, <Full House>, <Ijuksa> won NO.1, he gained 29 points in total. He is said to have "Charismatic acting skills and natural characters are shown... His transformation is highly acceptable and preferred by audience..." "It's too wasted if he is just a singer.... HE's like a diamond..." "Undescribable..."
On the other hand, there are also comments such as "He did well in <Full House> but didn't act naturally in <Ijuksa>" "Being arrogant may retard his development.." etc.

(skipped non-related...)

Well, how about the overall ranking regardless of gender? Again, Rain is NO.1 (27 points) Um Junghua NO.2 (14 points)...... (skipped non-related again ^ ^;;)

How did Director Park Get Drenched By The Rain?
Article in "Premier" Magazine-Dec.
Kr to Ch: wwrain
Ch to Eng: rayndrop

There is a singer by the name of Rain who dances very well.
Everybody thought that Rain could only dance.
But Rain, he wanted to become Jeong Jihoon.
He wanted to perform.
To Rain, getting acquainted with Jeong Jihoon was by chance.
To Director Park, getting acquainted with Jeong Jihoon was also by chance.

Scriptwriter Lee Kyung Hee almost felt like she was dealt with a blow on the back of her head. She was choosing a male lead actor for drama serial "Sangdoo, Let's Go to School". At first, all they wanted to do was to have meeting, so they went to JYPE at Cheongdamdong. Rain's acting skills were outstanding. Scriptwriter Lee said, "I gave him the script beforehand. The sensuality which he had interpreted from the character, Sangdoo, was astounding. There were many newcomers who could understand the script well, but their performance could not make you cheer from the bottom of your heart; like robots. But Jihoon was different." Rain acted the scene when the lead character, Sangdoo, was reminiscing about his first love. Scriptwriter Lee was shocked, "He was barely 21, but his acting skills feels like its from someone in their late 20s." Scriptwriter Lee changed her mind. Originally, she was at the point of signing a contract with another male actor, but she cancelled that. "Although I felt sorry, but there was no other way."

That was how the leading role in KBS serial drama "Sangdoo, Let's Go to School" was given to Rain. It was during that summer of year 2003 when dancer singer Rain became actor Jeong Jihoon.

In the spring of 2003, debut singer Rain was given the leading role in the special short drama, "Rain, the Disco King". This was a spoof of "**, the Disco King" in 2002. It was a mini-drama where many singers who could act participated in; a segment in a show programme. It's completed in one episode. But Jihoon created trouble here. The Managing Director of JYPE said, "Everybody praised that Jihoon acted extremely well. From then on, we started getting proposals for him to act in drama serials. But the content of most drama serials were similar. Most of them were about a dancer singer. Jeong Jihoon was still the dancer singer, Rain. "Windfighter" was one of them. "Windfighter" almost became Jihoon's first drama serial. It was about a dancer who could fight well. But Jihoon said "Sangdoo, Let's Go to School" was waiting for him."

Scriptwriter Lee of "Sangdoo" wasn't interested in Rain because of "Rain, The Disco King". Gong Hyo Jin was long-decided as the female lead for "Sangdoo". She suggested for Rain to take this role. Scriptwriter Lee said, "I've also heard that he acts very well, but my prejudiced view that he was a singer-turned-actor existed. It's better now, but during that time, people generally did not like singers who act as well." As soon as Scriptwriter Lee and PD Lee decided to use Jihoon for the male leading role, people started talking, saying that Rain was chosen because there was no suitable actor for this role. Everybody was waiting for a good laugh. Scriptwriter Lee revealed, "Internally, there were objections within the production team, because his acting was not put to test before them. Sangdoo is a 27-year-old, a father of a child. Jihoon was only 21 then. Everybody thought we should look for someone in his late twenties. At this time, Jihoon said to Scriptwriter Lee, "I, really have confidence."

In order to create the kind, crude, sad Sangdoo character who had problems expressing himself through words, Jihoon watched 200 DVDs, read 300 comic books. Managing Director Jung said, "In the past, Jihoon had already said that other than singing and dancing, he was also very confident of his acting. We thought he was only talking the talk. Who could have known he could really do it so well."

27-year-old single father, Sangdoo. Many of his special traits were created by Jeong Jihoon from the script. Near the end of summer in 2003, the filming of Sangdoo started. Scriptwriter Lee said to Jeong Jihoon, "How can you stay as a singer only?"

Jung Ji Hoon, "Wanted to take director's abilities"
December 1, 2006

"If I could, I thought that I wanted to take the director's abilities."

Singer Rain (Bi) who is also actor Jung Ji Hoon had a meaningful initiation rite. Jung Ji Hoon who is making his screen debut through the movie 'Cyborg, but that's okay,' that will be opening on the 7th and is directed by Park Chan Wook, showed more charm as an actor than his previous drama series.

At a press conference held just after the premiere on the 1st, Jung Ji Hoon commented regarding his character Park Il Soon, "Before I started acting this character, I was very frustrated and worried."

The 'mentally ill' Il Soon who constantly commits theft after thinking the reason his mother ran away was because of himself meets and falls in love with Young Goon (played by Lim Soo Jung) who believes herself to be a cyborg. Through Il Soon's 'serious' efforts to feed Young Goon who is suffering from anorexia, the audience soon realizes the true meaning of love.

In response to a question asking what type of ability he would steal if he was able to just as Il Soon, Jung Ji Hoon said, "I wanted to become the president when I was young. Of course that cannot be achieved by stealing someone's abilities. During the filming, I wanted to steal the director's abilities and switch the positions we were in," indirectly expressing his distress as an actor.

"It was hard to express the many different emotions in the mental hospital such as the melodrama, thrill, pain, sadness, and others. But after thinking 'this type of genre and character has never been created before so I can create it myself,' I became a little more comfortable. The character seems to be normal one second and confused in a third dimension the next. The set environment was great so I think Lim Soo Jung and I were both able to act naturally in a confused state."

Lim Soo Jung who played Cha Young Goon, a character that closes herself off from the world after being forced to part with her grandmother who believed herself to be a mouse, commented, "I had to constantly be on a diet through the filming so I was naturally able to understand Young Goon's emotions."

Lim Soo Jung who was not able to have a complete meal due to the character's anorexia said, "Whenever the meals were served, Jung Ji Hoon, the director, and even the entire staff seemed so mean. I was always hungry, always angry, and felt it was unfair that I was the only one that couldn't eat. So when Young Goon sang 'Silent food (Goyohan bap; bam-night, bap-food), Holy food (georookhan bap)' I was better able to understand her state of mind. Lim Soo Jung is said to have weighed as less as 38kg during the movie.

In regards to the character Young Goon, Lim Soo Jung said, "She is a very unrealistic character. I wasn't sure how to express her but when Song Gang Ho at the crank up ceremony told me, 'You are very lucky as an actress to have been able to meet such a character and movie. The character is a white sheet of paper that can play around freely within the fences that the director, co-stars, and staff have set up,' all my worries disappeared at once."

In Korea, singers don't just sing to make a living any more. They try hard to map out a career cycle as entertainers, with the arch usually taking them into acting ventures of varying success. In soap operas particularly, some acquit themselves well. Others, however, provoke derision from Korea’s merciless Netizens for the way they flounce and pout around the sets.
In fact, the majority of soap leads are played by singers today. The Chosun Ilbo asked 14 writers and producers of hit dramas who the best and worst of the bunch are. We asked them to rank the top three in each category by giving three points to the best, two to the second best and one to the third.

From left: Rain, Kim Chang-wan, Kim Dong-wan, Lim Chang-jung and Eric

Among men, famously ambitious Rain came top with a score of 29 for appearances in “Full House” and “A Love to Kill.” Praise was fulsome. "He successfully appeals to the public with his ability to express feelings in a sympathetic way and by making the transition from singer to actor very naturally,” one panel member enthused. "He’s a jewel. It would have been such a loss if he hadn’t decided to act.” In second was Kim Chang-wan with 13 points, followed by Kim Dong-wan with 10 points and Lim Chang-jung with 9. Mun Jeong-hyeok or Eric, who landed in fifth with 8 points, got mixed reviews. Some said he was “taking full advantage of his pretty face and ability as an entertainer." Others were less kind.

IPB Image

From left: Jung Ryoe-won, Uhm Jung-hwa, Eugene, Seong Yu-ri and Lee Hyo-lee

Among women, Jung Ryoe-won came top thanks to her part in “My Name is Kim Sam-soon.” Jung "is able to reflect her own natural image into the role she plays in the drama," one panelist said. "She works hard at learning her craft. If you look closely at her eye movement, tempo, breathing and reactions to her partners, you can see that she studies the script really hard.” Uhm Jung-hwa came second with 17 points and Eugene in third with 12. Uhm is said to be able to play a wide range of parts, have a lively spirit as an actress and act very naturally. Eugene drew favorable responses thanks to her fluent dialect in the drama “I Really Really Like You” broadcast this year. She was praised for speaking dialect very well, which is not easy at all.

Overall, Rain came top with 27 points, followed by Uhm Jung-hwa with 14, Jung Ryeo-won with 12, and Lim Chang-jung with 11.

Who, then, is the worst singer-turned-actor? Seong Yu-ri held the sorry title with 21 points, followed by Lee Hyo-lee with 14, Park Jung-ah with 13, Kangta with 8, and Eric again with 5. Seong, our panelists said delicately, "has starred in several dramas but still has a long way to go.” Lee Hyo-lee, who was featured in the drama “Three-Leaf Clover,” was denounced as woefully miscast. The glamour girl “did not suit the character of a factory worker,” they said. In Park’s case, the difference between the singer’s image and her soap character was also judged too glaring.

Rain's face is now on a lunch pack

thanks to oct23ria @ kpopper.com~~

Rain's face is now on a lunch pack.

In order to support Rain, whose world tour starts on December 15, MBC "Section TV Entertainment Communication" requested Lee Young, a character lunch pack specialist, to make a lunch pack with Rain's face drawn on it.

IPB Image

This lunch pack, which has Rain's trademark smiling face, was made with the use of boiled rice, seaweeds and ketchup. Strawberry and potato omelette were added around Rain's face.

Kim Sae Rom, "Section TV Entertainment Communication" reporter, personally hands the lunch pack to Rain on the show's recording on December 5 and will be broadcasted on December 8.

For Rain, 'Cyborg' may prove a stepping stone to world fame

By Kim Hyun

SEOUL, Dec. 6 (Yonhap) -- Rain may be taking a gamble playing a psychiatric patient for his big-screen debut, but the Korean singer-actor, currently on a world tour, is steadily reinventing himself as he prepares to flood the world stage.

IPB Image

"This will be a new image of me," he told Yonhap News Agency at a downtown cafe in Seoul.

"If I had to pick one, the image of me in the movie is closer to who I really am than the Rain you see on the singing stage."

Rain will debut in "I'm a Cyborg, But That's Okay," directed by Park Chan-wook and set for local release on Thursday. In light of Park's success with "Old Boy," which picked up the Grand Prix at Cannes two years ago, the movie is almost certain to get a worldwide release, something Rain hopes will raise his standing in global terms.

"Now I feel that I have taken the first step," he said. "To me, the issue was that the director was Park Chan-wook. He was the director I liked as a fan, and with whom so many actors wanted to work. I thought there would definitely be things he could teach me (as an actor)."

Ranked among Time's 100 most influential figures this year, Rain has been a superstar in Asia with four albums and three hit TV dramas under his belt, but his star quality hasn't translated into global appeal.

His sold-out shows at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City in February received mixed reviews that pinned him down as a star with more local than universal attraction. His storied past as a struggling backup dancer with a poor family has shadowed his career. Now, at 25, he is finally transcending his past and his homeland with the leap to the silver screen.

Playing a psychiatric ward patient in "Cyborg" required him to shed his onstage persona and appear blank and inexpressive in a bulky white gown. His character, incarcerated for his anti-social behavior that developed after his mother deserted him, falls in love with a girl who believes she is a cyborg, played by Lim Soo-jung.

Despite his commended acting in South Korean TV dramas, Rain, who uses his real name Jeong Ji-hun for the film, said he had some headaches acting for the big screen.

"The reason it was so difficult was because, you know, you look sad when you're sad, you laugh when something is funny - but the director wasn't happy."

"I asked him how I should act, and he said, 'You are sad, but you shouldn't be sad.' I asked, 'Wouldn't it be better to show some sign of tears?' He said, 'No, maybe not.' But I did well-up in one scene. It was declared an NG at the time, but he used it, maybe because my feelings were genuine."

Rain was referring to a scene where his character looks at the cyborg's scrawny, naked body as she refuses to eat. He finally gets her to swallow a spoonful of rice by inventing a tool that transforms food into energy.

Park said that casting Rain totally changed the dynamic of the film. What was originally intended to be an experimental and low-budget affair ended up needing rewrites and more cash to fit his star persona.

"I initially thought of this film as one of my HD projects, or something in-between," Park said at a recent press screening, "But that idea was thrown out because Jeong Ji-hun was cast."

Rain's caring, supportive role in the film fits with his kind image, but not with his reputation as a self-made man who trains mercilessly to stay on top. When starting out, he famously plastered his bedroom walls with inspirational mottos like "You will fall the moment you relax."

Fortunately, mentor and singer Park Jin-young was there to provide a safety net after his first high-school band collapsed. Park, a famous singer himself, spotted the young back-up dancer at an audition and decided to mentor him. The result? Rain's debut album "Bad Guy" came out in 2002.

But his past refused to sink quietly into the background. He broke down while accepting the top prize at the KBS annual music awards in 2004 while paying tribute to his mother, who died from complications of diabetes before his album came out. More tears followed at a concert in January 2005. Stories about his impoverished family circulated.

Not that the rumor-mongers hampered his success. Rain was the first Asian to hold a concert at the U.S. prestigious Madison Square Garden, and his fourth album "Rain's World" was released across Asia last month. He now has world tour commitments in Seoul, Las Vegas and Singapore among others.

"Cyborg" co-star Lim says his success is a product of hard graft and intense self-discipline.

"He's really tough on himself," Lim said. "While shooting the film, he had to practice singing and dancing while juggling schedules abroad, but still when it came time to shoot, he became Il-sun (his character) and got totally immersed in it, which wouldn't be possible if he weren't so focused."

With his trademark charm, washboard abs and slender, yet muscular body not on show in the movie, Rain's staking everything on his ability to act -- and Park's ability to direct.

"Like everybody knows, he's really famous in Europe and elsewhere. He's really a world-renowned director, so hopefully our movie will be screened widely overseas."

06.12.06 VIP Premier of <I'm Cyborg>

Directed by Park Chan-woo, starring by Jeong Jihun (RAIN) and Lim Soojung, the movie <I'm Cyborg but that's okay> held its special VIP premiere at Longshan CGV cinema. Some of Rain's good friends such as Song Hyekyo, Huang Zhengmin (pinyin), Cui Minzhi (pinyin) and those senior actors came to this VIP premiere, too. On the other hand, Rain's JYPE senior Yi Jishang (pinyin) who just finished his army service came to support him as well.

Is it a post-movie syndrome? I wish I can hop like rabbit like what I did in the movie... when there's nobody around..."

Super star RAIN (Jeong Jihun, JJH) is currently having trouble with this 'post-movie syndrome' after his debut movie <I'm Cyborg>.

In this movie, JJH's role is Il-shun, a mental patient who is able to imitate actions and steal other's abilities. "I feel like being & acting like Il-shun sometimes..."

In fact, JJH needs 2-3 months to 'recover' from his movie/drama and goes back to his reality life.

"In the movie, I have to hop around like a rabbit or rolling on the ground... Frankly I feel like doing so sometimes, especially when nobody is around... I would like to feel what's inside their (mental patients) mind when doing so..."

JJH expressed his very unique feeling to this movie: He could feel the happiness & satisfaction like what the character felt in this movie.

This movie will be released in S. Korea on Dec 7.

Rain Set to Make His Name As Actor
December 11, 2006

Singer Rain is likely to make his name known to the world once again, but not as singer this time but rather as an actor.

A source from CJ Entertainment, the distributor of the film “I’m a Cyborg but That’s OK” starring Rain and Lim Soo-jung, said Friday that they plan to submit the film to an international film festival. “Given the time, it will likely be the Cannes International Festival to be held in May of next year,” he added.

A film about a romance taking place at a mental hospital, “I’m a Cyborg but That’s OK” is director Park Chan-wook's latest work after his vengeance trilogy--“Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance,” “Old Boy,” and “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.”

There is a high possibility that the film will be invited to the competition category of the French film festival because the director has established quite a reputation in the global film world and because the film itself presents a different view of the world with unique cinematography. Park received the Grand Prix Du Jury with his “Old Boy” at the Cannes in 2004.

If it is invited, the movie will provide Rain with an opportunity to attend the world’s leading film festival and be in the spotlight of the world media. As singer, he held a concert in New York amid much attention from the U.S. media early this year and was chosen one of the world’s 100 most influential people by the U.S. magazine Time.
