Rain to Star in Special CNN Ad
June 25, 2007

Korean singer Rain will be the main model for a special advertisement on the world's biggest news channel CNN.

This special type of ad that restrains the sending of commercial messages has appealed more to customers and has actively been used by public US corporations in recent days.

The Korea Tourism Organization has been airing an ad utilizing its slogan 'Korea Sparkling!' with Rain as the model since April to 17 countries worldwide. The ad's visual is considered to promote Korea's energy and softness. A CNN official, after watching the ad, proposed that the tourism organization produce another ad in a different style, which is how the latest deal came about.

KNTO director Cha So-hee says the new ad has been made exclusively for CNN and is expected to significantly promote Korean tourism during the months of July and August.

Singer Rain has previously appeared on the CNN talk show 'Talk Asia' and also made it on the world's top 100 influential people list by Time magazine in 2006.

Here's a message Rain left for fans on his birthday.

Rain’s Bday Message!

Posted by shenyue on June 26th, 2007

Hello, this is Rain.
I came to be over twenty-five years old already.
I thought I might always be able to stay at my junior age; I ‘m in mid-twenty already.
I still feel the high school girls, who put on the uniforms, as my sisters
I cannot believe that I became mid-twenty.
Anyway, thanks for the message of happy birthday.
I’ m so happy for you guys’ message.
It will be more wonderful if I could spend this time with you guys.
I’ m also so sorry.
However, I decided to contribute my birthday to my future.
(I didn’ t have a seaweed soup yet… too bad..)
Now I’ m staying in LA, meeting all relevant people with regards to the movie and
my English Album.
The movie, ” Speed Racer,” which I will take shooting from next month, will be very fun.
It will be such a great experience, and I ‘m so excited to work with so many good talents.
And also look forward to the album.
I’ m having meetings with good people and preparing a huge project.
The movie and the album will come out next year.
And above all, I ‘m very thankful for all your support to help the Asian concerts finish very well.
This tour was planned 3 years ago, and all the people did work really hard.
However, it was you guys who made it.
I do appreciate all your support!
Now on the way to America for the concerts, I faced a couple of problems such as the
name of “Rain” and the production issue.
I’ m very sad and upset, since I really wanted to keep my promise with you guys.
I had to forgive so many things because of this tour, but..
Besides, a lot of rumors came out due to the production problem.
I hope that people ’s greed don’t ruin our concerts anymore.
I’ d better plan next tour and set up the stage by myself. Then, there won’ t be any problem,
will be? Keke.
Anyway, don’ t worry.
I’ ve told you many times that I wouldn’t even start, if I couldn ‘t show 100% of my things.
I’ m doing my very best for that 100%.
I’ ll be your Rain who you guys are very proud of and not shame of
Please keep watching me and support me ^_______^Jun. 25th, having twenty-fifth birthday,
Very truly yours,
Rain

Official announcement from Rain world tour StarM(full story)

Kim Tae-Eun @ Money today, StarNews
Translated by Jay@Rain-USA.com

Rain’s world tour promotion & production company, StarM released official announcement regarding recent lawsuit filed by Hawaii local promoter, Click Entertainment. Main content of this announcement is Rain will counter act to fraud lawsuit of Hawaii concert.

Click Entertainment filed the lawsuit against Rain, StarM, JYPE, and Revolution Entertainment stating the reason for the cancellation of the Hawaii concert is to snatch the Licensing fee, $500,000.

Regarding this accusation, StarM will counter act to Click Entertainment who filed lawsuit against not only non contract related parties, StarM & JYPE but also the artist, Rain.

Since StarM have not received actual lawsuit documents from Hawaii yet so don’t know how non related parties, StarM, JYPE and even Rain, are related to this lawsuit. StarM contradict Click’s accusation about the cancellation of Hawaii concert and also stated they will counter suit.

Also StarM emphasized that the innocent party, Rain’s name, is defamed because of this and we will prepare firm confrontation legally. “Rain prepared the concert diligently for 3 years since world tour planned and finished the concerts perfectly. Asian tour is finished and in process of preparing US tour, Rain’s name issue and problem with local production incurred.

Rain visited Atlanta and New York last May and right after Bangkok concert, he visited US embassy for US visa. Rain’s responsibility is to perform his best at the concert when everything is ready. Rain executed his duty diligently and prepared every concert perfectly.”

“Decision of cancellation is made by StarM with advise from Rain world tour production specialist team. Rain mandated all right to StarM. Rain is absolutely not responsible for the cancellation of Hawaii concert. In spite of all, Click forgot basic respect to the artist for the reparation issue between promoters and mentioning ‘fraud’ to the artist. We are preparing for defamation suit against Click Entertainment.” Also expressed their regret to some press media who wrote malicious articles based on unconfirmed information.

They mentioned there were serious problems with local production in Hawaii aside from the using of Rain’s name issue.

“We can not conduct the concert when there is no way we can set up the basic production formation and thrust stage that has not 100% waterproof, specially with weather like Hawaii that has a lot of rain and wind.” They stated and “Local promoter insist the concert where no concert production can be set up. How can we do the concert when there is a risk that the stage might collapse?” asked in return.

StarM also opened e-mails between local production manager and tour production manager to public. They couldn’t continue the process when there is no basic safety for the artist and tour equipment worth millions of dollars.

According to e-mail, there are serious problems with venue rental schedule, no acknowledged lists of requested equipments and most of all, warning of safety and local production preparation on unsafe thrust stage for production formation.

In addition, they pointed problem with USA tour promoter, Revolution Entertainment who should control and manage local promoters.

“StarM contract Revolution Entertainment on Feb. 9th for 5 North America concerts for $2.25 million and Revolution Entertainment sold to local promoters for Hawaii and Canada concert. In process of resale, Revolution Entertainment didn’t maintain control of local production which should have been in agreement with StarM, marketing, ticket pricing. In addition, according to Click Entertainment, Click said they paid in full concert right fee, $500,000 before May. But Revolution didn’t paid any balance after paying down payment of $450,000 around Feb. 20th. Click should process litigation to Revolution for reparation. But Click is processing the litigation not only non related parties, StarM, JYPE but also the artist, Rain.” StarM emphasized they will confront firmly on this matter.

Also, “StarM notified termination of the contract on May 24th due to violation of contract by missing payment dates and Revolution should relay the termination to Click. In fact, StarM try to work with Click to make Hawaii concert happen even after the termination.

This was for to avoid damage to local promoter more than monetary loss of StarM. But the production problem that stated above and the lawsuit about name issue, we announced postponement of US tour on Jun. 7th inevitably. On Jun. 7th, StarM announced the postponement to press after received the memorandum from Revolution stating Revolution will be responsible for all cost due to damage occurred and ticket refunds.”

“Revolution promised to take the responsibility for damage cost due to cancellation and ticket refunds. We are considering legal litigation to Revolution for not fulfilling the promise.”

Also mentioned lawsuit about Rain name’s provisional disposition.

“After lawsuit about Rain’s service right on Feb. 20th, we tried very hard to resolve this matter outside of court. But we failed negotiation due to Rain Corp.’s unreasonable demand. On May 15th, Rain’s name provisional disposition lawsuit is filed and even after that, we try to continue the tour by changing concert name, etc. But we have no idea what the outcome of ruling will be and there was no way we could continue the concert tour with huge reparation might incur and lawsuit of service right. In a mean while we had on going problem with agreement with local production. This is the reason we had to cancel the Hawaii concert.” StarM explained.

StarM is now preparing the counter suit to Click and also preparing litigation for defamation of Rain.

06.26.07 [EDaily] Rain Who Celebrated Bday in US, Replaced Seaweed Soup With Noodle Soup

Rain, who is preparing for his concert on the 30th in Los Angeles, because of his busy work schedule on his own birthday on the 25th, replaced the traditional seaweed soup with noodle soup to mark the beginning of his first day as a 25 year-old. One of Rain's spokesperson said “Because of the issues with the concert, Rain is very sad." “in a foreign land he has welcomed his birthday, but he was also too busy to think of one misfortune while busily and heavily engaging in the preparation of the concert."

It is reported that Rain has been meeting with American record label companies, to further exchange opinions in regards to his march into the American market in the future. Although there are problems with the tour, Rain did not show his anxiety when meeting with these professionals. It is said that he has expressed to them his future ambitions and so forth, showing his positive posture in his work.

"Don't say I'm a liar!" Rain voiced out his protest. He has officially expressed his position today.

"From now on, I'd like to express a clear standpoint."

Regarding the problems come from Hawaii concert, Rain is expected to express his standpoint officially. A spokesman of Rain told Edaily SPN in the telephone interview on June 26 morning, "Regarding the postponement of concert as well as the rumours, Rain is very sad." "Considering other people, Rain kept silence for some time. But if the rumours are still spreading like now, it's time for us to make a clear stand."

In particular, Rain felt unfair and he was very upset due to the name 'liar' stamped on him because of the concert postponement. He told others about his bad mood.

"Initially we thought these (rumours) will vanish when time goes by, thus we kept silent to avoid messing up the situation. However, it seems like the rumours are getting wilder." said the spokesman. "When we make the official position, we shall announce more insider info at the same time."

Rain will attend a meeting with StarM on June 26, 10am (Korea time). His official position will be released through StarM.

07.06.27 Rain's strong objection against the accusal of fraud

World star RAIN is ready to protest against the accusal of fraud by the local producers from Hawaii, due to the cancellation of Hawaii concert. The accusal led to Rain's defamation.

On June 26, StarM made their standpoint in written form "We will settle the defamation issues with Click Entertainment, the domestic producer in the court." It was StarM's response to the accusal of fraud by Click Entertainment, in which Rain, StarM and JYPE are being sued.

The main organiser of Rain's world tour, StarM said, "Rain visited New York and Atlanta to promote his world tour. Just right after his Bangkok trip, he went to USA ambassy for the visa. He's doing all these with sincere. As all the USA world tour are planned by StarM, Rain has no responsibility at all. Therefore, the accusal of fraud shows that they don't even show a basic manner and respect to an artist."

Although StarM officially handed over the copyright (worth 2.25 billion) of USA world tour to Revolution Entertainment, they only received 450 million from Revolution on Feb 20. The contract is supposed to end on May 24 but they didn't receive the remaining payment.

On the other hand, Rain will carry on his Los Angeles concert on June 30 as planned.

"I'll do my best for sure!" said Rain.

Rain has finally voiced out his position regarding the accusal of fraud. Now he focuses most of his time in rehearsal.

On June 26 (USA time), Rain expressed his position through the world tour organiser, StarM. In these few days, Rain has gone through more trainings and practices which occupied more than 12 hours per day. He hopes the LA concert can be a wonderful and perfect show.

In the telephone conversation with SPN in 27th morning, Rain talked about his feeling, "Although I look alright, in fact I'm very upset. So I realise I should have more practices..."

Singer Rain wants to prove his strength by showing his best. Later he added, "Instead of throwing words around, let's prove to them my strength. It seems like I have better understanding about the meaning 'try our best and the rest is up to the luck'...."

StarM stated their intention to object the accusal from Hawaii producer. Through the media StarM voiced out, "They plan to bring StarM, Rain and JYPE to the court while they are the owner of concert copyright, moreover they requested for another 500 thousands using the excuse of 'it's the court commission'... Indeed this is a fraud!"

Through its evidences, StarM also mentioned, "Rain who is innocent, is now being accused. We will bring this issue to the court to compensate his loss due to defamation!"

BIG NEWS!!! the L.A. concert has been CANCELLED!!! I just found out when i arrived there. It was cancelled only and hour or so before the concert was supposed to start! There were a lot of disappointed people there (including me T__T). No one knows why it was cancelled, just that we can get a refund from wherever we bought it (which i'm grateful for...).
sweetpunze25
I went there excited and ready to scream my heart out! while waiting at the VIP underground parking lot. i saw a bunch of rain's staff getting into the vans and cars. some of them pale and smoking like crazy! i wasn't really thinking, until my sis who went back to the car to get her stuff that she forgot, called me and said that the workers at the parking lot said that they just got a call saying that the concert was cancelled! i called down at one of the staff workers, and said if it was true! [shocked & still in denial] he said, yes it's TRUE, and i said WHY???!!! he's said that's all he can say for now. T_T he's was so sweet, he even bought lunch[cali-roll/sushi] for the Staple Center staff workers. he is truely Genuine. i saw the look on the staff workers eyes, they were surprised and thankful. so we waited in front for a while... Ch. 7 news was there, Korea Times... Fans from ALL over in Shocked! i felt sooo bad for Rain... sleep.gif this reporter from K-Times came up to me to ask some questions about Rain... i told her that sure i was disapointed, but i was still 100% supportive towards Rain. she was sort of shocked, and said why, and i just said that we know it's not his fault, & there has to be a reason for the cancellation. she asked if i would go to another Rain concert in the future... i said..."ABSOLUTELY!" then i ended it w/ BI FIGHTING!!!! she just smile at me and left right after she got my name and age.

Rain!!!! i hope that you do cheer up, & that you still have friends that are still supporting you 100%!!! Please come back next time, we'll be waiting!!!! happy.gif

the concert venue staples center was used for a soccer match the previous night.
so the stage was built from midnight.

the stage set up people did not put much attention to the soccer match the night before the concert and they did not inform rain about it. whoever watched the showcase DVD would have known that the stage need at least 3 days to build. 18 hours is defintely not enough.

then, the stage wasnt built by 7pm which led to the cancellation of the concert...

rain himself arrived in LA two weeks earlier for the prepare for the concert but the messy organisation destroyed his plans...

P.S: he got into a fight???!!! this shows how angry he is with the stage set up crew...

More Info from rain4jg @rain-usa :

This is really too much....BUT it's definitely not RAIN'S FAULT...RAIN worked, practised and prepared so HARD for this concert to happen and to be SUCCESSFUL ....RAIN must be very SAD and DOWN too that such thing happened to him too.... From what I hear from Korean News,,,Rain has been cheated.... he cried for 40 minutes and even insisted that he wanted to come out to sing even there is no stage and even insisted that he wants to apologise to all his fans...BUT Tthe authority did no allow him too.... I'm now very worry for RAIN.....

Singer Rain cried and looked around forlornly when LA concert was cancelled.

"My fans are more important than the stage to me."

Rain, who has been preparing whole-heartedly for the LA concert, couldn't help but break down in tears when the concert was cancelled on the day of performance.

According to Star M, which has been preparing for the Rain LA concert, after hearing about the cancellation, Rain insisted on going for the performance even if the stage is incomplete.

Star M's representative and SPN said this over an international call, "Rain saw his incomplete stage and cried." "He is weary from insisting on continuing the performance even though the stage is incomplete."
Rain heard that the performance was impossible, and saw the fans who came to the concert despite not understanding a word of English (Korean??). He kept repeating his wish to apologise to them directly.

Rain wanted to apologise directly to the fans because even though the cancellation was not caused by him, he wanted to do something for the fans within his ability.

Rain insisted on meeting the fans at the concert site, but was strongly advised to give up and leave the premises. Star M, who is in charge of his LA concert, has formally announced the cancellation. Star M and SPN representatives stated the reason "cancelled due to complicated problems" on the international call.

This makes me soo incredibly sad to hear this. Rain wanted to do SOMETHING for his fans but couldn't. He wanted to make it up somehow, he kept on insisting, but they wouldn't let him! But no matter what, i still fully support Rain! It wasn't his fault that the stage wasn't built like it was supposed to! I bet he's really sad that he's had to cancel just about all of his concerts in america, all these problems kept coming up...

I wonder if his New York concert is still gonna happen, right now it's TBA. But, i can't spend the money to go over there, T____T i hope i get to go to a concert of his eventually, because i missed his concert last year (and i was really sad about that), and i was hoping to finally go to this one but it got cancelled... T__T

All we can do is continue to support Rain.
Bi !!! Miduyo! (i believe in you)
Don't worry, everything will work out eventually...
Aja Aja Hwaiting!!!

[spoiler]VIP underground parking lot? I didn't know about that. I had VIP tickets, did that mean that there was a seperate entrance for us to go in??? -__-;[/spoiler]

OH MY GOD WTF

So much and now THIS? He worked so hard and THIS is what happens? He clearly wanted to do something for his fans, they're so important to him, and he wasn't allowed to! Oh my god...that really really sucks. This is really bad, people might get mad at him...is it being rescheduled? PLEASE tell me they WILL do another one?! Then Rain can show everyone how much effort he put in!!!!! T_T

Translation of Ji Hoon’s speech at fan meeting

와주신 거 진심으로 감사드리구요,
I appreciate for coming down here .

About tonight’s show, i made sure it’d be the greatest show ever~~
but against my will, and mixed up with safety, there was no stage ready when i got to the spot.

제가 여러분과의 약속에서 분명히 최선의 노력을 다했지만,
일단 여러분들께 약속한, 공연의 100% 를 보여드리려고 분명히 약속했는데
그것을, 일단 지키지 못한 것에 대해서 못해서 대단히 죄송하게 생각하구요~~(fans’ cheering~~ it’s all right, it’s ok~~)
I mentioned before, i’d try to do my best and promised to bring a 100&% stage for you guys,
I’m so sorry i couldn’t keep my words for that at first.

I’m really hurt the last of my world tour ended up like this,
from the Asia tour to the States, the countless time of practice and my effort,
not to mention, the faith of yours and your will-be joy on the faces, are all i was thinking full in my head….

Anyhow, i’d like to thank again all of the Asisan fans, who made the success over there possible,
and really feel sorry for all of fans in the States. I’ll try to have much better gig(s) with very good staffs within short time.

I’d like to say my apology again with my heart.
Above all, the worst thing i can’t deal with is there’s nothing I could make a decision of.
(so) about everything, i will try to show you my best effort in the future.

thank you, Now i’m going to Berlin tomorrow right away to start to shoot the film.
There mihgt be no news from me at all for months, though, I’ll be back after shooting.

I appreciate. thank you.

Interview - Singer, Rain: World Concert Tour Cancelled
01 July 07, isjang@yna.co.kr

Ch to Eng: rayndrop

“Although I’ve given my all, but things didn’t go as I’ll like them to, and I couldn’t keep my promise of a concert. I’m very sorry.”

Rain, whose LA World Concert Tour was cancelled attended the fan-meeting at Wilshire Grand Hotel on 30th June. He apologised several times, and said, “This is the last concert in the World Concert Tour. I’m very sad it ended that way.”

To the fifty-odd fans who flew in especially from Japan, Rain said, “I had countless practices and was determined to make my fans happy. I didn’t expect to reach the concert venue at Staples Centre and encounter a situation where even the stage is incomplete.” “Facing a situation where I cannot make any decisions (cannot do anything about), I feel helpless (wronged).”

Below is an interview with Rain:

Q: The LA concert was the only remaining concert left in the US concert tour. What was cancelled too?
A: I was determined to make it a successful concert, but things did not go as I wanted it to be, and the concert was cancelled due to security reasons. When I arrived at the concert hall, the stage was not constructed at all. Although I did all I can, I couldn’t keep my promise to the fans. I am extremely apologetic.

Q: After a succession of cancellations, do you have any plans to reschedule?
A: Due to this ridiculous conclusion to the final concert of my world tour, my heart is really aching. After successfully completing the Asia tour, I have put in countless effort and determination to make the US tour a perfect end to the World Concert Tour. All I hoped for was to make my fans happy, but things turned out this way in the end. I’ll like to thank my Asian fans for making the Asia tour a success, and to my US fans who have been anticipating my concert, I am so very sorry. I will work towards meeting my fans on a better stage in the near future. I will definitely do my concerts with good people.

Q: Was there no way to stop that chain of problems that had happened?
A: For what had happened, I’ll like to apologize once again. I feel wronged I wasn’t able to make any decision (do anything) about this. At the end of the day, I’ve learned that everything requires me to be even more hardworking. I will put in even more effort to put on a better performance.

Q: What’s your schedule like going forward?
A: I’ll be flying to Berlin tomorrow to begin filming of the movie “Speed Racer”. In many months to come, I may be unable to give any news to my fans. I will return after the filming concludes.

Below is an interview with Star M Lee In-Gwang:

Q: You didn’t anticipate a scenario where the concert will be cancelled?
A: Yesterday (29th), at around 11pm, we realised the severity of the situation. V2B Global, which has been emphasizing that there are no problem, did not pay the production people in time. the equipments did not reach the concert site at all. Furthermore, the specifications at Staples Centre did not meet requirements. V2B Global came to us once with the cash and guaranteed to do their best for the concert. We had to make good our promise to let them handle the concert, but in the end, we had to cancel the concert due to insufficient time.

Q: The reason behind all the US concerts being cancelled?
A: The local production and organising companies all made grand promises of being able to handle the concerts, but in the end, they scr3wed up. In the case of the LA concert, due to delayed payment, there was even an incident when the lighting crew walked away. In order to keep our promise to fans, we paid the transport logistics, the air tickets of relevant personnel and even food expenses. We have tried our best, but things simply did not happen according to our will. We are in deep discussion about the directly handling issues such as relevant rent and the ticket sales for the next concert.

Q: In other words, there will be rescheduling?
A: We may have brought too much disappointment to the fans already. For them, at worst, we will even consider doing a free concert. Far all the problems that have happened with the concerts, we will re-look at them and come up with improved strategies. Thereafter, we will reschedule after proper planning. Such an incident will not happen again.

I feel sorry for Rain. So sad! He cried!! sad-smiley-065.gif
I hope none of his fans or anyone would blame him for this. They're his fans so they shouldnt blame him or be angry at him. He really wanted to perform. He knows that fans are more important than the stage. He really wanted to put a lot of effort into this concert but sadly it got cancelled.
In that clip, he sounds so sad...sad-smiley-065.gif
Makes me wanna cry too for him.
But it was nice that they cheered to show that they still support him! YAY!! yeah.gif

I was so worried about Rain's well being when I was told the concert is canceled, I already on the freeway and half way to the Staple center. I was so shocked and can't believed what they said and asked them to go to the box office to double check and I even tried to call ticket master to confirm.

The whole world tour is mismanaged and Rain is just the victim.

No matter what happened, I am still 100% standby Rain's side and wishing him luck in the filming activities in Berlin and hoping for another concert in the States.

I do feel sorry for the overseas fan that made a special trip to LAX to see Rain, of course disappointed but put ourselves in Rain's shose, he must be deeply hurt, in pain and feel betrayed for the whold incident.

He is the most hard working and ambitious artist from Korea, I salute his conscientious, devotion, dedication and sincerity to his work, to his fans.

Rain, we love you, aja aja fighting......................... the storm is out and tomorrow will be another good day ahead of you.

I don't blame you. So many people were looking forward to this...!!

It's horrible that your summer plans and everything were ruined...I think this really lowers the trust people have in him...>.< I don't blame Rain though, and I'd buy tickets the next time he performs here, this is really...terrible...imagine how HE must feel though...

[03-Jul-07][LA Times]Rain's world tour is clouded by snafus

Forced to cancel his L.A. show, the South Korean pop star blames miscommunication, technical difficulties and vows not to slow down.

By Chris Lee, Times Staff Writer
July 3, 2007

South Korean pop superstar Rain blamed local concert promoter V2B Global for technical difficulties that resulted in the cancellation of his performance Saturday night at Staples Center — the last in a string of planned U.S. shows in the singer-dancer-actor's "Rain's Coming" world tour that failed to go on as scheduled.

But viewed another way, the show's last-minute cancellation can be partially attributed to a breakdown of the K-pop phenom's celebrity industrial complex. Miscommunication between his various American tour promoters, as well as Rain's recent changeover from his powerful talent manager, Park Jin Young, to a new manager accounted for at least some of the confusion that led to the technical trouble that stopped the show.

The missed concert — for which 77% of available tickets were sold, according to Ticketmaster — could push back his efforts to establish his pop stardom in America by as much as two years.

"The local promoter didn't set up everything," Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji-Hoon, said through an interpreter Sunday. "When I came to the venue, the LED screen couldn't be set up. I have rain falling in the concert — that couldn't work. The stage wasn't set up, there were no lights, no sound. I wanted to do a great show. But yesterday, I couldn't get on stage."

V2B's Chief Executive Andy Kim, however, tells a very different story, insisting the tour's original promoter, StarM, pulled the plug on the show after discovering the production would not be able to use Rain's massive Korean-made LED screen — a central component of his stage show — because it didn't conform to American electrical standards.

"It was a safety issue on the equipment they provided," Kim said. "But the real reason the concert was canceled is the Korean team didn't move quickly enough to make an alternative plan.

"They kicked me, the local promoter, out of meetings they were having with management," he added. "Then at 5:30 [Saturday], Staples wants me to approve a press release saying the concert has been canceled. StarM didn't consult me. I didn't know until I saw the press release."

Rain, 25, part of the globally popular "Korean Wave" movement and often referred to as "the Justin Timberlake of Asia," said he felt sad and angry about disappointing fans, some of whom had traveled from Tokyo, Hong Kong and Seoul for the performance.

"I'm feeling ridiculous about the situation," said Rain. "I came here [to Los Angeles] two weeks before the concert, prepared everything and had a press conference. Then the stage wasn't set up. I couldn't even sing."

The cancellation comes as the capper on what the Korea Times called "perhaps the most ambitious and expensive world concert tour by any Korean artist" and on the heels of postponed Rain concerts last month in Honolulu, New York, Atlanta and San Francisco because, Kim said, tour organizers hadn't anticipated the difficulties of transporting the singer's 28 18-wheel trucks worth of stage rigging and 96-person entourage from Asia.

The "Rain's Coming" tour — and specifically, the Staples Center gig — was Rain's last professional attachment to JYP Entertainment, the management firm owned by his former manager, Park, a former pop superstar in his own right who Rain let go in May. (His new manager, Dong Won Cho, quit JYP to work for Rain.) JYP sold the rights to the American tour stops to another Korean firm, Revolution Entertainment, which in turn parceled them out to promoters including Click Entertainment in Hawaii and V2B Global. In January 2006, JYP oversaw Rain's performances in New York and Las Vegas, which went off without a hitch.

On Saturday, StarM, the tour's original promoter, put out a news release that explained the technical concerns that it said stopped the concert and accused V2B Global of financial mismanagement.

"Literally, the stage structure wasn't set up until one and a half hours before the show," the statement reads. "Moreover, it was ordered that none of the electronically related tour equipment (LED screen, conveyor belt, stage setting generator, special effects pump, etc.) brought from Korea could be used because of the Staples Center provision based on the electronics security and fire services act."

It continued: "The fundamental problem was the local promoter V2B Global's financial status. The local production team wasn't paid on time …."

Kim denies the allegations, countering, "We paid cash to everyone at the show."

At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, just an hour and a half before show time, notices that the concert had been canceled went up at Staples Center. Hundreds of fans lingered at the venue for hours afterward, however, some crying, many chanting Rain's name and all waiting for any word of what prevented the singer from taking the stage.

"I couldn't believe it. I had been looking forward to it for so long," said Michael Ryan, 17, who drove from San Diego for the concert. "It was like waiting all year for Christmas and then not getting anything."

At around 12:45 Sunday morning, the singer met with some 200 fans who had flown in from as far away as Thailand, Canada, Japan and Vietnam in the restaurant of the Wilshire Grand Hotel to personally apologize. "He wanted to show fans how much he cared but you could see he was very devastated," said Jay Yarbrough, 40, from Pocono, Pa. "People were crying. They cared more about Rain being upset than about missing the concert."

Rain said he hoped to record an English language album in the next year but acknowledged that it could take up to two years to get that project off the ground. And it will be at least two years before he can return to perform in the United States. Nonetheless, he remained sanguine about making good on his desire to become the first Asian superstar to cross over to an American audience. "I learned a lot of things from this situation," Rain said. "I'm angry and sad but it's not going to slow me down. What I'm going to do is make it perfect with the American promoters and do it step by step next time."

Dismissing the notion he was disappointed about having to forestall his dream of becoming a "worldwide superstar," the singer pointed out his debut Hollywood film role in the Wachowski brothers' big-budget action-adventure tent pole film "Speed Racer" will put him in the American limelight inside of a year (the movie is set for release in May 2008).

"I don't worry about it," he said. "I'm shooting a film. I'm going to show my character in that film. I don't feel a failure."

Official Statement for the Cancellation of the Los Angeles concert at Staples Center
on June 30th, 2007.
As the local promoter for Los Angeles, V2B Global would like to apologize to all the
sponsors, fans, concert goers, and media that were affected by the last minute
cancellation of the Los Angeles concert at the Staples Center. V2B Global exercised all
possible options to continue with this concert; however, STAR M (Korean Production
Team) from Korea unknowingly to V2B Global cancelled the show without our consent.
With a strong group of sponsors, fans, media to support us and nearly 80% [7,318 tickets
sold out of 9,429 seats available (per Ticketmaster on 06/30/07)] of the venue filled we
were in a perfect position to commence with this concert.
As the local promoter and the company in charge of arranging all local production
requirements, we hired a production manager by the name of Mark Russo who has over
35 years of experience in putting on world class productions for some of America’s top
artists from various genres. V2B Global stands by its word that all the local production
companies handling staging, video, audio and lighting requirements were paid a deposit
to begin the work and the remainder paid in full (by cash) at load-in time (beginning
2:00AM on June 30th, 2007) in accordance with our agreement with each production
company. With this understanding each production company showed up on schedule with
all the necessary tools and equipment to complete their portion of the agreement and
provide production services in order to allow the local promoter to complete the show.
V2B global began production work on lights, sound, and stage from 2:00AM and was
brought to a halt at approximately 12:45PM due to a LED screen provided by STAR M.
Upon further review into the reason for the halt, V2B found out that Staples Center
(which requires that all electrical components be U/L certified) had refused to allow the
installation of the LED Screen to continue because of safety issues arising from using non
U/L listed certified equipment. To get final judgment on whether the LED screen could
be used or not, a local city building and safety inspector was called to make the final
determination. Against the advice of the local promoter and Staples Center, STAR M
continued to halt production on their portion of the production until the inspector arrived.
At 3:45PM the inspector arrived and within 20 minutes explained that this is a “non U/L
certified equipment and therefore, he could not authorize this equipment or any other
equipment without the U/L certification to be energized with power for safety reasons.”
This resulted in the LED Screen, chain lift motors and conveyor belts from being used
during the show due to non conformity with U/L certification. From 4:00PM to 4:45PM,
STAR M production managers had an internal meeting (excluding the local promoter) on
how to resolve this situation. During this time Staples Center had advised STAR M to
remove the non-approved LED Screen, chain lift motors, and conveyor belts from the
stage and commence production because of a constrained time schedule. STAR M
requested from Staples Center more time to meet amongst each other therefore causing
further delays with the production schedule. During this time the local union and other
companies hired by the local promoter were commencing with their duties as if the show
would continue. By 5:00PM the local production team and the local union had
successfully removed the LED screen, conveyor belts, and chain motors from the main
stage, completed the construction of the main stage, begin the construction of the 2nd
stage, finished all lighting installations, finished all sound installations and began
working on the remainder of the video screens (provided by local production) and stage.
At 5:30PM a Staples center representative contacted me (V2B) for an approval on a press
release draft stating the cancellation of the concert. A cancellation I was not aware of nor
consulted about by STAR M or Rain’s Management. Upon communication directly with
Staples Center, it was told to me that STAR M had instructed Staples Center of their
withdrawal of this concert due to production issues.
V2B feels that STAR M’s incompetence to commence with an alternative show plan
without the use of the approved LED screens, chain motors, conveyor belts and
consistent halting of production for useless meetings resulted in the failure to complete
the production requirements. Despite numerous interruptions by STAR M to our local
production team we (V2B, local union and production) were still able to complete the
installation of lights, video (Local Production provided), sound, pyrotechnics (with
permits by LAFD) and over 80% of the stage excluding the non approved production
equipments. As the local promoter I know we have done everything in our power to work
and complete the production requirements and were ready to proceed with the concert as
planned (even at a financial loss to the promoter) for the fans, media, and sponsors who
have shown their dedication to support this show.
On behalf of V2B Global, I sincerely apologize to all the fans, media and sponsors for the
unfortunate circumstances that led to the cancellation of this concert. We have instructed
all of the authorized ticket venue locations to allow for processing of refunds, so please
contact the location where you purchased your tickets to request a refund.

The Insider's Story??
Credit: benamoo | lovebi_rain@baidu

This is from a Japanese music website. The author is an American. She has a friend working in Orpheum, and has obtain the friend's permission to disclose the following:

Neway...A friend of mine who works at the orpheum spoke to a V2B Global tech guy, who was involved in the Rain show. The V2B guy told my friend at 4:30pm to tell me not to be too dissapointed if the Concert was cancelled. when asked why he said that he said they couldn't set up the big center screen, and with the game on the night before they didn't have enough time to set up. They needed at least 2-3 days. They hadn't even had the equipment inspected by this point. A fire department official was all ready telling them that they were not going to be able to use a lot of the pyrotechnicks they had in the show and city officials were NOT happy with stage. Too many code violations. They guy (who didn't really know who Rain was) also told my friend in no uncertain terms that he felt sorry for the singer. His bosses were telling everyone to be VERY hush hush about the whole thing (they didn't want word of this to spread to the Rain camp) they were trying to fix things.

Apparently when Rain was FINALLY told about this whole mess was around 6:00pm. He was all ready getting dressed and was excited about the show after spending three hours going over the dance moves again with his dancers. Not wanting to cancel the concert he said he would still go out on stage and sing. He didn't care if the pyro or big screen worked. he wanted to do a sorta accoustic thing. city officials were adamant that the show must be cancelled and would not let him do this. The stage being incomplete anyway they said it would be dangerous to him to do this as well. He then said fine to remove the stage, he would sing just on the basketball court. But to tear down the whole stage, even half would take forever....V2B said no. When Rain tried to go outside to speak with fans, even though he didn't speak english, security had to hold him back. They were all ready letting everyone know the concert was cancelled and they feared that the fans would tear him apart. (yeah right). This was when he got in a fight with a security guard and was yelling at one of the V2B people in charge.

Soo...long story short my friends connection in V2B was able to clear up and put in order a lot of the rumors that were going around. I would've shared all this with you guys earlier but I didn't want to spread more rumors. Not until I was sure. But since all these rumors were all ready leaked around I decided to put out what this V2B tech guy said happened. My friend didn't tell me all this until sunday morning. He didn't really believe that any of this was true...he thought it was too stupid to be real. But there you go.

07.03.07 [MyDaily] China Fans Agree That Rain Is Innocent

"Rain himself must be very upset, but we as his Clouds will gather and wait for the Rain." said China fans.

Rain's LA concert was suddenly called off due to the safety reason on July 1 (Korean time). The China fans regretted about the cancellation. In fact, many of them were so shocked and upset. It seemed like this incident created more impact to them compared to the postponement of Shanghai concert and other concerts in China.

From the comments and response in Sina, some people were shocked and some were disappointed. Comments quoted here are "Although no exact reason is told, as a fan we won't get mad easily." "It's like tickets bought but no movie is shown." "No matter how, it must be the problem of concert producers. Rain himself is quite hurt as well." With added advice, "He must be more careful when it comes to networking with people." (Translate: Probably they worried that Rain may get set up by others next time.)

Similarly, some people felt hurt, too. "You can say it's cruel, it's incapable or whatever, in short it's ridiculous!" and they hope "Rain disappointed his fans but we have to be united and let it RAINs again in the world."

==================================================

Sohu also began a questionnaire on July 2 onwards "Should Rain be responsible to the cancellation of concert an hour ago?" to find out the public concern about this incident. From the results, 90.95% China people agreed that 'Rain is one of the victims, too so he should not be responsible' whereas 9.05% said 'Rain should bear the responsibility together with the organisers.'

Another question 'What is the influence of cancellation on Rain?' 93.71% people mentioned 'Not much negative influence since Rain had apologised to his fans.' 'Don't worry too much'. Only 3.22% said 'It will bring negative impact to his image.'

The organiser for this questionnaire voiced her reason, "Since most China fans understand and concern about this incident, so it won't cause much negative influence on Rain." "Not only Korea, many China fans are advised not to worry too much."

In the portal for Rain's special news, more than 400 articles appeared in one day and most of them were full of encouragement and regards to Rain. They expressed similar feeling in their articles, "Rain will definitely feel hurt and sad because of this incident."

kyaa? This is not an attack, just out of curiousity, who's number 1? biggrin.gif

pink ice: Thanks for all the articles! I'm really glad that the fans in China don't really blame Rain too ^^ <3

Hey, I have a question, since Rain isn't under JYP anymore (which might have been part of the reason for the messy management?), what is he going to do now? Is he going to manage himself? I mean, it seems like he is, because JYP did so much for him, so it must have been hard for him to leave, and if he left, he had to have some intention of "standing on his own two feet", right? That'd be REALLY hard though, right, with everything else he has to do? And what about his music? Is he going to write it himself? He's never done that, so is he prepared? Right now he's filming, but what afterwards?

In the Entertainment News section, I read an article about JYP's plans. He said his only regret with Rain is that his english wasn't as strong as he hoped. So I'm sure Rain is going to work on his english now. But he mentioned nothing else, so did he teach Rain how to make his own music? Or...I dunno there's just so many questions, and JYP didn't say anything T_T Either there was nothing to say or he didn't want to spill Rain's plans without him. *sigh*

Okay i realize that was like a ton of questions, not one. And I know most of the answers are unknown, I was just wondering if anyone had a tiny idea or anything ^^;; Either way, I'll always support him! xD biggrin.gif =]

Thanks for the videos, tearful_eyes!

RAIN! WE TRUST YOU AND ALWAYS SUPPORT YOU
-live urls are not allowed in your usergroup-

As not only devoted fans of an artist but also sincere supporters of present pop culture,
we can't find words that are enough to describe this deep frustration
from the recent news of same day cancellation of Rain's World Tour in Los Angeles in June 30, 2007.

From winning the MTV ASIA grand slam,
remarkable success in both Asia concert tour -[Raining Day] and [Rain's Coming]-
to concerts in the center of pop music -Madison Square Garden in NY,
Rain has achieved many unprecedented cultural feats.

It is too simplistic to associate these achievements together with Hanryu
that its own life was corroded by poorly produced contents and shortsighted marketing strategies.
They were even far from some predictable results from solid supports
for quality performances enhanced by cultural infrastructure built up
in struggling music industry by illegal pirates' act.

There are numerous Korean musicians who have tried to expand their limits abroad.
However, the size of attention and impact from other countries
Rain created during his relatively brief period of stardom doesn't seem easily happen to anyone.
It wasn't merely good fortune either.

Rain knows what it takes and he never stops doing his best regardless
of whether the circumstances work favorably or not.
That's why we're again so thrilled at witnessing
what he had prepared for his fans in his World Tour Premiere in Seoul last October.
Even many others who have no interest in "singing and dancing on stages" entertainers
finally acknowledge Rain and send him sincere applause at the news
about him made the world's most influential person by Time magazine
and a block buster movie casting in Hollywood.
However, because of an irresponsible concert management company and incompetent local promoters,
many unpleasant accidents arose during Rain's World tour
especially in planning on concerts in U.S.A. Concert at Staple center in Los Angeles was the one
Rain wanted to recover from the mistakes made by the awkward management.
But when we heard the news the Los Angeles concert cancelled on the same day
and Rain couldn't hide his tears anymore,
we cried together.

As one probably also knows from the many press about Rain's World Tour,
it might be inevitable result that fans were concerned with following news
about other delay or cancellation of his concerts
such as in Shanghai, Toronto, Hawaii and recently Los Angeles.

We know how many details need to be involved executing such a big unprecedented project.
Yet, there can be no reasonable excuse for rashly canceling a concert on the same day,
no pre-research for Rain's right to use his stage name in other countries (caused lawsuit challenging in U.S)
and ignoring necessary procedures of concert places
if they are suitable or allow for Rain's stage that specially designed for his performance.

[Star M Planning] contracted with Rain taking all rights and every responsibility
of whole designing and planning of Rain's World tour global project.
Star M shared the rights regionally with local promoters
and it possesses all rights about proceeds derived from the tour concerts.
From the observation about how they managed it,
what their real concern is obviously not the quality success of the project itself
but dividing sales rights to regional promoters under Rain's reputation.
With the disastrous incidents like this same day concert cancellation,
Star M is busy making all possible excuses to avoid blame.
This shameful situation shouldn't be continued and this malpractice should stop not only for Rain
but more also for the future of any potential cultural contents produced to be exported from Korea.

By recalling other successful concerts so far in many other Asia countries were possible
because Rain presented such amazing performances on stage
so that fans were satisfied enough to bear inconvenient irritation
by those poor practices from that management company that made fans have to go through,
not because fans were not aware of what went wrong.

Rain's reputation and credit as an artist has hit rock bottom
and the most damaged victims of all are the thousands of fans
who didn't hesitate to buy tickets and fly to Los Angeles from all of the world
for the sole purpose of seeing Rain's performance.
Moreover, fans had to hear the news
that instead of Star M or any local promoters who actually created this unspeakable mess,
Rain himself showed up before press later to announce
how sorry he was about the incident as he was hiding his innocent tears.
Enough is enough.
There is no more tolerance for irresponsibility and incompetence of the Star M and their subcontracted promoters.
Our patience is exhausted.

We request an official apology to fans and clear announcement taking all responsibility
about this outrageous situation caused by their lack of foresight
and unprofessional handling from the Star M, Revolution Etn., and V2B Global.
And we also require concrete fair actions
from them to recover Rain's severely tarnished reputation as well.
Furthermore, we don't want to see any association between them and Rain from now on.
Our fans will put together our efforts with any means against any further bogus practice
by Star M under Rain's name

*bluebutterfly*

Korea’s Sexiest Male Stars

Posted by Kwfong on July 3rd, 2007

This clip with that heading needs no introduction but I must warn that it should have a PG rating. The subject under discussion is rather close to my heart as it talks about selling sex appeal in Korean entertainment to the largely female audience. How some male artists change their image through acquiring a sexy bod, while some Korean actors who would not strip for the camera, hehe, Jo In sung but had to do so. Also tips from Hyeon (Hyun) Bin on building his pectorals. Song Seun Hun, Lee Seo Jin, Lee Jeong Jae, Son Ho Yeong are among the hot bods featured.

List of supporting Rain all over the world
Hi, Rain-USA Biers.
Not even enough time to mend ourselves, there are so many thing going on for supporting Rain.
These are the list of we are participating.

We, Rain-USA will wait to do Official Support to Rain, once all these are done.

Here are the lists.
You can participate all, some or one.

1. Petition for www.webcloud.co.kr

You go to this site click english and follow the instruction.
You can only petition once and duplicate will be deleted.
Also, this will be send to Rain for support and StaM for release detailed explanation.
Petition period is til July 14.

Rain, we trust you and always support you.

“As long as there’s full support from Cloud family, no matter what struggle I encounter, no matter how my strong will to overcome all the struggles has been faded away ...but the powerful strength always gets back to me of a sudden everytime I have a thought of YOU!”
Said by Ji hoon in the” ROAD FOR RAIN” activity in Japan on June 16, 2006...

And now, it’s time for all the Clouds to stand together and fuel him up!!
Let's join us and show THE CLOUD's solidarity !!!

Dear Clouds,
June 30 is the worst day for Rain and Clouds. Due to the terrible working, they broke Rain’s dream and his promise with Fans. We all know Rain tried so hard to prepare for the performance in hope of showing his best to US market. Unfortunately, the LA concert was still cancelled. The cancellation of LA concert is not his fault, but we have to admit the US concert tour is abortive. He is now deeply hurt and really needs our support to overcome this difficult time. Some of us who are from different countries’ Fan Clubs have been discussing to raise a widespread transnational movement to let Rain know that Clouds always have faith in him and support him wholeheartedly.
If you are interested in our movement, please read the proposal as below and join us !!!
* Movement name: We Believe Rain!
* Time: July 5th ~ July 18th (the movement period is very short because we hope Rain can get the cheering messages as soon as possible)
* Subject matter:
1.The movement hopes to collect all over the world Clouds’ cheering messages as many as possible for Rain (handwritten message). Each message will be written on a small card specially designed with “Red heart and Cloud” symbol.
We will send this design to every FC websitemaster (see the attached file).
- Message will be written on a specific red heart-shaped piece of paper. Those who are interested in the movement can go to their Fanclub website to download the “message card artwork” and use White thicker art paper to print it out by youself. After printing, please cut around the message card’s shape accordingly (see the attached sample).
- On the part of the white cloud, we all write the same message in our own language : I Believe in Rain
Korean: 나는 비를 믿는다
English: I Believe in Rain
Chinese: 我相信雨
Other language: your own language. Please advice your members the message in your language
- On the part of the red heart (front and back), each person can write or design his/her own short personal message to Rain and then the signature. Please note that the message should be written in Korean and/or English only !!!

2. Each website please make a 5-minute clip to show your love and support for Rain. For instance, the 07’ birthday party, the process of collecting the messages or what you want to say to Rain now…. All the clips will then be edited into a DVD in the name of the Clouds from all over the world.

3. After the heart messages collection, we will send all the hearts and the DVD to Berlin directly to Rain. Hope these messages and the DVD can accompany him and cheer him up during his time in the Berlin.

4. The shipping fee of the present from Taiwan to Berlin will be shared equally among those who take part in the project. The payment details will be advised later.

*Mailing address for the hearts and clips collection:
