Why can't TVB create another sereis as brilliant as "Greed of Man"? It's so classic and timeless. After almost 14 years, it's still wonderful and stylish.Today,all the so called "big budget " series are
predictible and lame. Always crappy happy endings that's unoriginal. Why is HK people have to be treated like retards as if we can't comprehend complexity and irony?


So sick of TVB's series formula. All are cookie cuters that the writers put in zero effort to challenge the traditions. Why American series are so much better?

That's your opinion, personally I watched Greed of Man and it was no big deal.... I like the little predictable series more... That's what people likes, you can't always stay in the past. And if you like American series better than, watch those instead... TVB series will stay the same and it doesn't seem to bother anyone.

Personally, I found American shows to be stupid and lame and lack values as well. Different people=different opinions

I agree, even though I did not like greed of man and found it disturbing, I think TVB lacks effort. the series was original, provocative and moving but ultimately too ugly for my tastes. yet, after celebrating over 40 years of production, TVB has fallen miserably behind the powerful raw emotional dramas it used to make. film makers actually tried to capture the human essence back then. now, whether from lack of talented actors to carry such movies or lack of good writing in general, tvb has reduced itself to second rate dramas that can hardly compare to what it used to be.

It does seem like TVB series nowadays are more laidback and comedic compared to the 80s-90s. I think it mainly has to do with society and the years. In the 80s-90s, I believe society in HK was still somewhat corrupted and legal reinforcement wasn't as effective, so series of that time reflected that period. In the 90s, you would have people worrying about immigrating because of '97 and also more series that focus on more professions like lawyers, doctors, etc. Then SARs came, and I read somewhere that they wanted to make more comedy because it was a sad time for HK people....and then from there, comedy series/family series do pretty well in ratings. So the time period seems to have an affect on what type of series are produced.

Nowadays, I think the focus is more on ratings. Whenever they try something different apart from the shows that showcase family or moral values and an injection of comedy, the show doesn't do well in ratings. The other concern are complaints. For some reason, HK viewers have either a small heart or too much time on their hands because they always complain about what's not appropriate or how this scene or that scene is too violent. So yes, it is partly TVB's fault for not being creative and more bold with their productions, but their creativity is also not that well- appreciated because viewers are too comfortable watching the same happy, warm-hearted plots and themes.

I think TVB series nowerdays are much more family-friendly to attract more viewers then the old days, because I thought Greed Of Man was good, but not something you would maybe let a kid watch.

American series, don't normally watch them but some are worse than ones made buy TVB.

they should make those good series.. but too bad there's no more creativity in it...that's why the quality has also been bad... for example...most of the part 2 series are worser than part 1.. why are they makin so much of those part 2... cause theres nothing much for them left anymore and they have to get money!
