KAT-TUN talk
Wink Up 2005-10
translated by Ricci & Meloenchen
Taguchi: "I don't really know the Kame from way back. Oh, but when I'd just joined the Juniors, it was Kame who taught me the proper way to handle myself on stage."
Everyone: "Ooh!"
Kame: "Maa ne!"
Junno: "But now I can tell it, the way he did it really pissed me off! 'What's wrong with you, can't you do it?', in a really condescending voice."
Everyone: Kyahahaha!
Nakamaru: "Wow, what a story. Ne, Taguchi, how great that now you're in the same group with that guy and you're getting along well." *laughs*
Kame: "But I taught you really well, didn't I? When everyone else had a break, the teacher always told me, 'Kamenashi, go teach that to the other guys.' and I always felt 'why me!'" *laughs*
Koki: "Kame used to be a really naughty boy - as soon as you didn't look at him, he disappeared somehwere. But today he has gotten hold of the weapon of composure and is the most calm person among us."
Nakamaru (with a computer game voice): "Kazuya has gotten hold of the weapon of composure!" *laughs*
Jin: "He was someone you just had to notice."
Koki: "Sou. But wherever he went, he's grown to a son you needn't be ashamed of."
Kame: "Um, Koki, are you my father or what?" *laughs*
Ueda: "Sorry if I continue the Let's-say-something-bad-about-Kame series, but when I asked him 'Eh, do you pluck your eyebrows?', I just got a 'So what? Do you have a problem with that?' in return." *laughs*
Kame: "Hey, that was when I'd just joined the Juniors! Do you still hold that against me?" *laughs*
Ueda: "Yes, I still hold that against you."
Kame: "I'm often told about those old things. Lately, I've met with the staff from Kinpachi Sensei after a long time and they were really surprised, 'Hey, Akihiko, why do you use keigo?' [AN: keigo is very polite Japanese. As a kid, you normally use keigo when talking to your elders.] In the past I always wanted to use keigo, but... well, I guess I was kind of high-spirited. That was my 'primary tengu time'." *laughs*
[Okay, what follows now is a play on the word 'tengu'. Tengu are goblins with long noses in japanese myth, but today the word is also used to mean 'show-off'.]
Koki: "Yeah, the first tengu war."
Nakamaru: "And that developped into the second and the third tengu war." *laughs*
Kame: "Exactly. And in the first tengu war, the senpais broke my nose just a little, which was getting longer and longer." *laughs* [Meaning, he got a little too arrogant and his senpais gave him a dressing down.]
Jin: "And the final winner in the war about the longest nose today is Nakamaru."
Nakamaru: "Haaa? There's no reason for my nose to be long!" *laughs*
Kame: "Because the most important element is completely missing." *laughs*
Nakamaru: "Sou, it's missing completely. But to be honest, I'd like to have just a little bit of it!" *laughs* [Meaning, he thinks there's no part of him he considers to be cool or arrogant. But he would like to be just a little bit cool.]
Akanishi: "Kame really used to be a boy you just had to notice. For example, when Kame and I went together to Pi's house to have some fun."
Koki: "Kame and I also went to YamaPi's house sometimes."
Nakamaru: "Me too! ... Sorry, that was a lie. I just wanted to try and increase the number of my friends." *laughs*
Akanishi: "Talking about that time, Kame always had the role of the mood-making leader. You always had the feeling he was playing a role similar to the character of HaseJun." *laughs*
Kame: "Sou da ne. When we went to L.A. and Las Vegas with YamaP and Jimmy Mackey, I was tricked by the other members. Koki pretended to be obsessed by a ghost. I asked 'Wouldn't it help to pour some water on him?' and began filling a bucket with water, when YamaP suddenly got really serious and said 'I think you should stop with that.' and stopped me." *laughs*
Koki: "I thought this was the worst. I had already decided that I wouldn't mind the water so much, but when someone started to slap me, I really felt I should get up and slap him back." *laughs*
Ueda: "Wasn't that Akanishi?"
Akanishi: "Aah, it might have been me. Sorry, sorry!"
Nakamaru: "I was also made fun of in Los Angeles. All of a sudden, everyone started saying things like 'YamaP is really annoying, isn't he?', and though I was against it, they wanted me to tell him 'You're annoying!'!" *laughs*
Koki: "Nakamaru was like 'But I don't really think...', but since we wanted him to do it at any cost, we said 'But it's your responsibility' [AN: Nakamaru is the eldest, so it makes sense for him to be the spokesperson when talking to a senpai, i.e. YamaP] and other unreasonable stuff, and tried to persuade him. *laughs* Nakamaru was really embarrassed, and when he was humming and hawing 'Jaaa... jaa...', Pi who had hidden in the closet came jumping out at him." *laughs*
Akanishi: "But if anyone was to be pitied in L.A., it was certainly Jimmy."
Everyone: "Koki's to blame for that."
Akanishi: "Koki and Jimmy had a pillow fight."
Koki: "I was kinda pissed off. That game was just stress relief! *laughs* He said I had nothing in my head, and because he hit me a dozen times with the pillow, I got angry and threatened him 'If you hit me one more time, I'll really give it to you!' He got afraid and apparently his hand slipped, and he ended up hitting me right on the head."
Nakamaru: "In that moment, Jimmy felt his life was in danger and fled." *laughs*
Koki: "I ran after him yelling 'Oraa, wait!' When I caught him I said 'You said I had nothing in my head, didn't you!' and hit him really hard on the chest."
Akanishi: "And then Jimmy cried. He was still small back then, so I guess he was afraid."
Everyone: "Poor Jimmy!"
Koki: "Jimmy, I know it's kinda late, but I'm really sorry! When the fight started, it just got my blood boiling!" *laughs*
Taguchi: "But after that, Jimmy put tooth powder in my nose." *laughs*
Koki: "Hey, Tsubasa-kun used to do the same thing to me." *laughs*
Taguchi: "I wonder whose character from KAT-TUN has changed the most, compared to the past?"
Kame: "Wouldn't that be Koki?"
Everyone: "Certainly!"
Akanishi: "Let's not forget about Ueda!"
Kame: "Ueda-kun, you used to be 'kyaaaaaah!' before, right? *laughs* But judging from those old stories, Ueda's slowly becoming more and more sullen. That's a prophecy of mine, though." *laughs*
Akanishi: "Before, at the Kami-sama concert..."
Ueda (in a low voice): "You better stop saying unnecessary things."
Akanishi: "Un, da ne. I also thought so and stopped midway."
Nakamaru: "Sugee, what an impact!" (Meaning: he's astonished Ueda managed to shut Akanishi up just like that.)
Kame: "You! When it's about other people, you look happy and listen, but when it's about yourself, it's this! You have to put up with things being said about you, too! *laughs* Like me with my 'composure'. You should learn about 'bearing something'." *laughs*
Ueda: "Maa maa maa. Let's leave it at that. The one who's changed the most is certainly Koki."
Kame: "And we left it at that ~ *laughs* But in Koki's case, he originally had the qualities he has now. But then he entered the world of Johnny's and glittered in the splendid Johnny's colours." *laughs*
Koki: "From the time when I was given a role in the dorama 'Tenshi ga kieta machi' (The street where an angel disappeared) I did my best to hide my true personality." *laughs*
Akanishi: "Now you've become 'The Koki from whom an angel disappeared'."
Koki: "Umai!" (Good!)
Nakamaru: "That's not exactly something which calls for admiration!" *laughs*
Taguchi: "From all of us, Koki is the one who's becoming the best senpai inside the Jimusho, isn't he?"
Kame: "True, right? In old magazines, I used to say 'I want to go snowboarding with Koki'." *laughs*
Everyone: "Hahahaha!" *explosive laughter*
Nakamaru: "Then go, just the two of you, this year in winter!"
Taguchi: "He's a senpai, and at first I called him Koki-kun and used honorifics when talking to him. But since we're of the same age, I remember worrying about when to drop the honorifics."
Koki: "I entered the film business and couldn't participate in rehearsals for a while. When I came back, Taguchi's language had suddenly degenerated. At that time I thought 'Whatever happened while I was away?'" *laughs*
Nakamaru: "It would be like Taguchi to think 'N-now's the right timing!'" *laughs*
Taguchi: "My heart was beating really fast."
Kame: "At that time Taguchi was the main actor in the second tengu war." *laughs*
Nakamaru: "What has changed compared to the time when we entered Johnny's, is not only Koki's character, but also the way the people around him treated him." *laughs*
Koki: "True, true. And right now, everyone is participating in the third tengu war." *laughs*
Akanishi: "But Taguchi used honorifics when talking to me for a very long time."
Taguchi: "I just couldn't find the right timing." *laughs*
Koki: "When I had just entered Johnny's, I was told by Fuku-chan (Fukuda Yûta) when I called him 'Fukuda-kun': 'What's with the honorifics? It's you who's older! Don't use honorifics.'"
Taguchi: "Oh, that's really touching." [AN: I guess I need to explain that. Koki used honorifics when talking to Fukuda because Fukuda is his senpai in Johnny's. What matters is not the real age, but the status inside a certain group for the kôhai/senpai relationship. So it was very kind of Fukuda to offer Koki to talk to him like an equal, and Taguchi's comment is not sarcastic in any way.]
Ueda: "Before we became KAT-TUN, I had a fight with Koki, too."
Koki: "Yes, that's right! That was around the time of the V6 concert, wasn't it?"
Nakamaru: "I also thought 'What's with this guy?' when he gave me a punch on the shoulder." *laughs* [AN: KATAPAN means getting punched on the shoulder by someone you lost against in Janken (rock paper scissors)]
Koki: "I was quite naughty, wasn't I." *laughs*
Akanishi: "When I started participating in "8ji da J" [AN: TV program on Terebi Asahi that aired from April to September in 1998], I thought Ueda was like the greatest uber-senpai. But... he wasn't really that important."
Ueda: "Oi!"
Akanishi: "I thought he was on the same level as Takizawa-kun."
Nakamaru: "Aah~, that was just a misperception." *laughs*
Akanishi: "Un, just an illusion." *laughs*
Kame: "But weren't we all like that? Me too, when I entered Johnny's, I curried favour from all of the senpais. *laughs* Even when they were younger than me, I offered 'Shall I go buy some juice?'" *laughs*
Akanishi: "Me too. The feeling of wanting to get along with the senpais was really strong."
Taguchi: "Really? I didn't notice that at all."
Kame: "Something else that was pretty hard for me was sharing the MC with the other members! Either I talked too little or too much and the others got angry at me. I didn't know what to do."
Taguchi: "But now you've found the right balance?"
Kame: "Well, balance, I remembered to pass the mike to someone else. 'Kazuya has remembered to pass the mike charirarirachachan!' *sings* Oh, I just remembered something else! Speaking about the time when we were (he was?) doing 'MJ', the collar of Ueda's uniform was slightly dirty. So I asked him 'What happened?', and he said 'Aah, I had a fight yesterday and got sprayed by the blood of my opponent [AN: literally, victim]' By his victim's blood!" *laughs*
Nakamaru: "Ah, I remember that! That had a pretty strong impact. I was like, 'Really!?'"
Ueda: "Hahahahaha! I didn't think you'd seriously believe that." *laughs*
Kame: "'This guy is strong! I certainly don't want to get closer to him.' I swore to myself in my heart." *laughs*
Ueda: "Yes, I clearly recall the face of Kame in fear of me." *laughs*
Nakamaru: "From before, Ueda always could tell lies with a straight face."
Koki: "The biggest problem is that he never reveals 'That was a lie, nyah-nyah!'" *laughs*
Akanishi: "This bad habit of Ueda will become a big problem in the future." *laughs*
Kame: "And then the time when Ueda wore those thorny accessories! When we did the MC, there were traces of blood on the stage. I thought 'Is somebody hurt? Is everyone okay?', and when I returned backstage, the one who had been injured was me. There was a cut on my hand from Ueda's thorny bracelet. *laughs* When I had passed Ueda, I had thought that something hurt."
Ueda: "Ah, I'm so sorry about that! From the next day on, I always removed it before going on stage. At first, when I saw the blood on the stage, I thought it was my own. 'Wah, now I did it. But it's okay, it may even look kind of cool...'" *laughs*
Akanishi: "To consider that 'cool' is somehow..." *laughs*
Ueda: "And then the victim was Kame." *laughs*
Kame: "Honestly, talking about your victim's blood, this time it was the real thing!" *laughs*
Ueda: "I did stop wearing it, so all of you can dance without worry." *laughs*
Akanishi: "When I did a photo shoot for a magazine article for the first time, it was Taguchi who did it together with me."
Taguchi: "Ah, I remember that. Jimmy was there, too. Akanashi's and my time as new members was quite long."
Akanishi: "I didn't like Taguchi as a new member."
Taguchi: "Eh, why?"
Akanishi: "There was no special reason. *laughs* Me, Taguchi and Jimmy used to be B.A.D., Beautiful American Dream." [AN: one of these Junior subgroups, now composed of Kansai Juniors]
Nakamaru: "Though there was really only one American." *laughs*
Kame: "Oh, that's alright. Right now, in the Kansai B.A.D., there's not even a single American." *laughs*
Koki: "For one day I was also a member of 'Johnny's USA'. I was told 'You have a brought face, so it's okay.' and we went to Music Station. *laughs* After that, we had a photo shoot together, though originally it was supposed to be my solo shoot." *laughs*
Kame: "And that resentment could be felt during the trip to L.A. and Vegas." *laughs*
Taguchi: "I used to do my best for Akanishi-kun, though. The place where we had to return our outfits was really far away, and the person who lost at Janken [AN: rock paper scissors] had to carry them there. When we decided, even though I won he made me carry the clothes." *laughs*
Akanishi: "I was told 'Go bring them back!' and I was like 'Nooooo, I don't want to! Hey, let's decide it with Janken. Jan, ken... oh, I lost. Here, you carry them.'" *laughs*
Nakamaru: "There was no reason to do Janken then!" *laughs*
Kame: "And from that time on, Akanishi was a Jaian." *laughs* [AN: Jaian is a character from the anime "Doraemon" who has coined the saying "Omae no mono ha ore no mono, ore no mono ha ore no mono", meaning "Your things are my things, my things are my things." An attitude like this is called "Jaianism".]
Koki: "So at that time you already had an attitude of jaianism." *laughs*
Nakamaru: "The first Jaian war!"
Akanishi: "Sou sou sou. I've always been cheeky, haven't I? Because I was the only survivor of the first tengu war." *laughs*
Kame: "That's cool, your nose didn't get broken even once. *laughs* Usually, one should notice along the way 'Oh, maybe I made a mistake.'"
Akanishi: "いっそ、このまま大事に育てていこうって思ってる(笑)。[AN: We couldn't really understand this sentence, sorry! ^^; In romaji, it's "Isso, kono mama daiji ni sodateteikou tte omotteru." If anyone has a clue what this is supposed to mean - oshiete yo! ^o^] My nose is made of diamond and cannot be broken." *laughs*
Nakamaru: "Koe~" *laughs*
Ueda: "In that sense, Nakamaru hasn't changed at all compared to the past."
Everyone: "That's true!"
Akanishi: "His character hasn't changed, but his beatboxing and his MC certainly have. Kame is the peacemaker and Nakamaru became his support. This gives everyone a feeling of being at ease."
Kame: "But at this rate, I'd like Nakamaru to take over the MC..."
Nakamaru: "Why would you want to pass it to me?" *laughs*
Koki: "But can Nakamaru really do it...? He's so not the type for that!" *laughs*
Nakamaru: "That's for sure! I really, really like doing the support!"
Taguchi: "We used to meet and have fun a lot, didn't we. When we went to Hawaii for a photoshoot, you called me 'Taguchi-kun'."
Nakamaru: "At first, I honestly thought that you were older than me." *laughs*
Kame: "Sou ka... I really liked Taguchi's hairstyle from the second 'Crunky' commercial."
Nakamaru: "What's this, all of a sudden!" *laughs*
Kame: "Just my monologue."
Koki: "Speaking of hair styles, Akanishi adopted this asymmetrical hair style before anyone else did, didn't he."
Nakamaru: "Two years before anyone else did."
Koki: "But the place on his head where he did it was really wrong. He didn't change the style of his bangs, but had the strands in front of his ear cut asymmetrically. *laughs* What kind of guy Akanishi was when he'd just entered Johnny's, you ask? He pretty much didn't leave any impression on me."
Akanishi: "That was because we didn't have any relations. Almost the same goes for my relations with Nakamaru and Ueda."
Nakamaru: "But we did meet at the audition, didn't we?"
Koki: "I have a feeling that the first time I met Akanishi privately was when YamaP was with us."
Kame: "Talking about going to someone's house, the first Junior who stayed overnight at my house was Goseki-kun. [AN: Goseki Kôichi, born 1985, is/was a part of A.B.C.] He forgot his clothes at my house, and when we next met he said 'I forgot my clothes, please bring them along next time... Ah, but if you quit, better hurry.' *laughs* Apparently I looked as if I'd want to quit." *laughs*
Akanishi: "People used to say that the stew at Kame's house was really tasty."
Kame: "Sou! Because of that, people got so fired up that Touma and Kaza-pon [AN: Kazama Shunsuke] only came to my house to eat stew!" *laughs*
Akanishi: "When I told YamaP about that story, he said 'Really? At our house the kimchi is really tasty!' Both of them hated to lose." *laughs*
Koki: "Which are two completely different things, but I understand YamaP's feelings." *laughs*
Akanishi: "He told me 'At my house, the kimchi's very tasty, so why don't you come over.', and because he was the senpai who lived closest to me, I remember that I was really happy, because I wanted us to get along well." *laughs*
Koki: "So basically, Akanishi from before and Akanishi now are the same."
Kame: "Da ne. This part of him that moves along with his instincts is still the same as before."
Taguchi: "Iyaa, these old stories really get you going! And there are so many of them coming up."
Nakamaru: "But slowly our talk is becoming too much for these pages." *laughs*
Kame: "Jaa, then let's continue our talk about yet unknown KAT-TUN stories of the past soon. Everyone, look forward to it!"
