So, I have finished translating KAT-TUN's interview in Oricon Style 2006/12/11 that was requested by emeree. The interview is mostly about their new single and them picking on Maru (again) ^^;

This is my first time doing a translation and posting it in LJ, so, yorishiku ne. I might have direct translate it (if you know what I mean) so if there's any confusion on the translation, please do ask me, and I'll explain. I have trouble posting this translation, because it's a very large post (I have no idea on how to post a large post). I'm clueless when it comes to LJ, so, if there's anybody could help me would be much appreciated. So, next time if I do another translation, I'll be able to post it easily desho^^
The post is too large, so, I split it into 3 post, so, this is the 1ST PART
Please excuse my grammar and the way I write the translation, it's 5 in the morning now...and yeah I'm dizzy and I need a sleep (I haven't sleep yet)...I'll do better next time okay.

And another thing (This means my additional notes)

First, I would like to ask about the making of the song [Bokura no machi de].

KAMENASHI When I first accept the drama, I heard the opening song will be sing by KAT-TUN.

KOUKI I’ve heard that too.

KAMENASHI Many songs that were offer, but the drama was a love story, so, I was thinking the song that was produce base on the script should be chosen. This drama is important and should be considered first and therefore Mr. Oda has fulfilled my wish through this song.

During the 2nd single [SIGNAL], do you guys also had to choose from many offered song, was it like that?

KOUKI We had heard about 1000 songs, ne!

NAKAMARU There are no 1000 songs. (Laugh)

KOUKI About 800 then?

UEDA I heard it’s about 70 songs.

TAGUCHI 7 songs, right.

KOUKI (Say to Nakamaru) What about you?

NAKAMARU 70.

KOUKI Right? (Say to Taguchi) and you?

TAGUCHI 70.

NAKAMARU So, we’re back to 70 songs. (Laugh)

TAGUCHI But it’s impossible for me to make a conclusion.

NAKAMARU Ignored. (Laugh) (He meant Kouki)

Before this, do you guys know Mr. Oda?

NAKAMARU Of course!

KAMENASHI I also know the Of Course. (It’s an old famous band- Of Course, and Oda san is one of the member)

KOUKI Even somebody like me who listen to HIP-HOP, R&B & Reggae also know! Anybody should have heard about them.

KAMENASHI This song is related to the story of the drama, and also we’re the one who sing the song, so it was amazing. When I listen to the demo tape, I was surprised by Mr. Oda’s voice. (Laugh) So, I was thinking how’s KAT-TUN going to sing this song? (Say to Nakamaru) When the first time we sing the song, we had to work hard, ne?

NAKAMARU Yeah! Aa~ but we when listened to 70 songs to choose for [SIGNAL]…

KOUKI 700,000 songs.

NAKAMARU Yeah, yeah. (Laugh) As we listen to the songs, we were hoping that we will also start to focus on the 3rd single. So, we were thinking [for the 3rd single as a ballad song would be good]. It’s not like we just choose it, but for the 2nd single, it should be a fast single, we were meant to sing this kind of song. Before the debut, we also sing different kind of songs and thinking that we want to sing different kind of songs.

In KAT-TUN history as what it was said just now (the interviewer meant what was said by Nakamaru), [Bokura no machi de] is a new type of song right?

KAMENASHI The song when it’s finished, it became [wow~!]

KOUKI Because the demo tape was sang by Mr. Oda, so it was [wow~!]

KAMENASHI And also when we did a test recording and made it into a CD, the 2nd voice was Mr. Oda’s!

NAKAMARUI also received the trial CD, but there was no 2nd voice?

UEDA I didn’t receive any, but after I heard the finished song I was so happy because it has this high standard.

KOUKI This song when it was sang it was unexpectedly hard to sing.

UEDA Yeah, yeah, yeah!

KOUKI It’s easy to get into the melody, but when it’s time to sing it was hard. The key was high. And even though it was high, it didn’t break my voice, singing with a beautiful voice is really amazing. I felt like I’m in a very high level.

NAKAMARU I took picture with Mr. Oda using my mobile phone.

So, that’s mean Mr. Oda came to your recording?

KOUKI Yeah, it’s amazing right? When I sang, he didn’t comment anything, but if he’s just sitting there, for me it was precious.

KAMENASHI I was really nervous that at first I can’t let out my voice.

UEDA Me too, I can’t let out my voice for an hour because in front of me is the real man himself.

KOUKI We, before this, never did our song recording with the song composer. But when he’s in front of us, there was this pressure that “we need to do our best”.

KAMENASHI To record this one song, this time, in the studio, it takes about 6 hours. When it’s time to go home, it was already midnight.

NAKAMARU We did the recording separately, but when I went to the studio I could see Kouki’s face a little bit. (Say to Kouki) Kouki, you have different mood than the usual (laugh). You were really nervous, right!

UEDA (Say to Maru) Nakamaru, before you went to the studio, I heard your lie that you said; if I’m meeting Mr. Oda, the first thing I would say is,” yorishiku onegaishimasu” (laugh).

NAKAMARU Actually, it was too polite (laugh). I became nervous to see Kouki being nervous; it makes me nervous even more.

KOUKI Probably this is the first time I did a warming up all by myself to let out my voice before the recording.

KAMENASHI I too, practice hard.

KOUKI But it was too much (laugh)

NAKAMARU In the middle of recording, during break, our staff said to Mr. Oda [he can do beat-boxing]. So, I did a simple one, then Mr. Oda was all quite, but then he said [ah, oh]. I used all my technique but it was a waste~ (laugh).

UEDA I too, talk a lot with Mr. Oda. Every topic is so deep, Mr. Oda talk while playing the keyboard.

Talking while playing?

UEDA Yeah, we talked a lot about music and then, I received an advice from Mr. Oda which was [one, who is working hard, will surely win] after that I received a cake.

KOUKI Really? Impossible, I’m in front of Mr. Oda eating bento! It’s a salmon bento.

NAKAMARU I eat while sitting beside him because I was too nervous to face Mr. Oda.

TAGUCHI When I’m doing my recording, it was just normal. At that time, I was thinking “I’m hungry”. So, Mr. Oda said [there’s a cup ramen]. The cup ramen is a curry cup ramen, so, I recommend Mr. Oda on how to eat cup ramen, which is pour the hot water into the cup and wait just 1 minute, then ready to be eaten. But I was rejected.

NAKAMARU You’re so cold. (Laugh)

TAGUCHI Like a normal people, he just said [no, thank you]. Other than that he didn’t say anything. Why everybody he said this and that but he said nothing to me.

NAKAMARU Do you think, that Mr. Oda realize that you’re one of KAT-TUN?!

TAGUCHI (Laugh) don’t know~.

(Laugh) everybody has a different tension from the usual.

KOUKI This time, it’s not we’re showing our true colors instead we were colored by Mr. Oda. I want to sing like that.

KAMENASHI At first, I listen to Mr. Oda’s voice in the demo tape, I’m not intended to say this but he’s voice is amazingly so soft. In the beginning of the recording, he sang so soft, it didn’t sound like he’s singing but more like talking, compare to the finished CD (laugh). But he said that I should sing more loudly as in my own style. I only sing 1 part once and finish recording, but then after a break I was asked to sing from the beginning. It takes a lot of time, so I felt everything I got (voice & way of singing) has been out, which made me enjoy it a lot!

How is the PV?

KAMENASHI This is the first time we did it outside.

NAKAMARU So it’s like natural.

KAMENASHI It’s just like walking around the town. The shooting was done in Yokohama which also where the shooting of the drama take place.

UEDA We must be ready by 3:00am, at 4:00am we will wait for the sunrise. This is to take a picture as in like in an old memory.

TAGUCHI It’s like taking a picture using a film. Even the shooting location was amazing.

KAMENASHI The song, the visual and everything also match.

Without any info, when people listen to this song while watching the drama maybe there’s many of them doesn’t realize that this song was sing by KAT-TUN. When the single is out, then people will know that the song was sing by KAT-TUN.

UEDA Just like that, unusual but it’s still good, right? Thinking [this song is good] so when check who sings this song and [oh, it’s KAT-TUN].

TAGUCHI Singing in harmony, and each one of us have really work hard.

KAMENASHI For the harmony part, to get the main melody everybody uses the new arrange. Just like Kouki doing the low harmony. Through this song, we could see our new position.

Question from Oristar reader to KAT-TUN, what is their opinion on each member singing voice? (Tokyo. 14. Female)

KOUKI Eh, the question is for whom

For every body.

KOUKI You mean we have to say,” He has a good voice,” like that? In the magazine, praising each other like this is disgusting (laugh).

KAMENASHI Not intended to, but I think I like Nakamaru’s voice.

NAKAMARU What do you mean “not intended to”? You didn’t need to say “not intended to”!

KAMENASHI In [One on one] song, I like the Nakamaru’s solo part ♪ mada mada tarinai~ (laugh)

UEDA Everybody is unique, it’s easy to recognized whose voice, even the way of singing is different, even when changing the song we can also change to match the song.

KOUKI For this song, anybody who has a strong voice is suitable for this song.

What winter song that you guys like? (Nagano. 20. Female)

KOUKI [Bokura no mache de]’s bonus track [Le Ciel~Kimi no shiwase inoru kotoba~] Christmas version.

NAKAMARU Very emotional.

KOUKI I’m ready to include a good rap. Suitable/sweet rap! (Not sure what he really meant, suit/sweet?? Katakana confuses me)

How are the others? What about Taguchi?

TAGUCHI Winter song hmm… (Thinking)

KOUKI (Whisper) Just say [Le Ciel] to everybody.

KAMENASHI Yeah, the first time we went to skiing, we heard Glay’s song [Glorias]. Don’t realize it but there’s so many winter song, right?

UEDA Oh, me, its Glay’s [Winter again]!

KAMENASHI NAKAMARU TAGUCHI KOUKI (Raise hands) Me too~!

UEDA And [Romance no Kamisama].

KAMENASHI Oh, it’s nice! Also [Itsuka no nari-kurisumasu]! This is no.1!

KOUKI If I have to choose different song, it would be Hi-D’s [Vanilla].

This year what are the things that you guys work really hard on? (Hyogo. 23. Female)

TAGUCHI Beat-boxing.

NAKAMARU Oi!

TAGUCHI Me too, beat-boxing.

UEDA Things like doing beat-boxing.

NAKAMARU You too? (Laugh)

KOUKI He was always got scold at. (He meant Nakamaru) When people are singing, we will add beat-box, so it was like [shut up!]

UEDA When we did a live performance, we also did beat-boxing, but Nakamaru was do one that got scold. People will say [Nakamaru, shut up!]

NAKAMARU I didn’t do it! (Laugh)

KAMENASHI And also during rehearsal. (Laugh)

Is that a good answer?

TAGUCHI (In a loud voice) Really, I really work hard!

KAMENASHI On what? (Laugh)

TAGUCHI Beat-boxing, but because I have a thin lips, so, it didn’t sounded good.

NAKAMARU What? How can you think that way? (Laugh)

KOUKI Ee~ let me conclude it this way; everybody has their own job, so I think everybody is working hard.

What do you feel when you guys saw KAT-TUN’s advertisement posters in the city or in the train? (Hokaido.13.Female)

TAGUCHI I’m cool~! (Laugh)

UEDA When I saw my own posters in Ropongi, “I had dominate Ropongi” that’s what I think.

NAKAMARU Oi oi oi! Don’t talk big! (Laugh)

TAGUCHI But when you’re in a train, it’s there.

KOUKI Yup, if you’re sitting, there’s always at the back of your seat, it’s like seeing each other eye to eye, what can I do. (Laugh)

KAMENASHI Really? I don’t usually see my own posters~

NAKAMARU There is so many of it. It’s even in the Suika card. (Suika card is not a watermelon card event though that’s what it’s actually mean. But suika card is the thing where Japanese people scan their card in the train station so they can get in the train - something like that.) (Okay back to Maru) Everyday my mom, rip it bit by bit.

KOUKI It’s a made up story that you tell to make people laugh, right!? (Laugh)

KAMENASHI I heard there are many posters in Shibuya, but when I went to see it, it’s gone.

NAKAMARU I always saw Kame’s poster. There’s so many Kouki’s poster in Ikebukoro.

KAMENASHI So, different places, different posters?!

KOUKI When I was in scramble junction, it’s like there’s me and there’s me in a poster. (Scramble junction is a junction in Japan where people can cross the road, sorta like a zebra crossing but not, something like they can cross to any junction that kind of stuff, okay I don’t know how to explain ^^

KAMENASHI Each member’s solo poster was put up and from there, 5 of it were gone, but mine was still there…

NAKAMARU Oi kame, don’t be down! (Laugh)

What is the biggest change before and after debut? (Gunma.27.Female)

KOUKI In the karaoke song list there’s our own song!

TAGUCHI Aa~ that’s the biggest changed

KOUKI If it’s Ueda, nobody requested, but he went and sings his own song. (Laugh)

UEDA Of course! I requested it.

If there’s 1 day that you can be any of the other members, who you want to be, and what do you want to do? (Nagano.23.Female)

TAGUCHI Kouki!

UEDA NAKAMARU KAMENASHI KOUKI Me too! Me too!

Everybody’s wanted to be Kouki. (Laugh) What do you want to do?

TAGUCHI Playing! I don’t usually play around, so I want to try playing around. Wear many chains that sort of stuff.

KOUKI I don’t play around! (Laugh)

UEDA I want to do something bad. Even if Kouki did something bad, he still won’t have a negative image.

KAMENASHI Uhuh, I also want to do something bad.

TAGUCHI (Say to Kouki) If Kouki wants to be Kouki, then what do you want to do? Do bad stuff? (Laugh)

KAT-TUN's destiny not in "Akame"'s hands!?

If one talks about the most popular two members of KAT-TUN, it's Kamenashi Kazuya and Akanishi Jin. But in the entertainment world, there are a lot of people who say that it's not these two who decide KAT-TUN's destiny. Let's look at the other members and at KAT-TUN's appeal from a different angle.

First, Tanaka Kôki. Among Johnny's groups, he is the one in KAT-TUN with the most outstanding colours and an aura like an outlaw. According to a Tanaka fan: "The one who is said to have been promoted the earliest and who has a lot of talent is Kôki (Tanaka Kôki). He played the lead role in the 2001 movie "Colourful", directed by Nakahara Shun, script written by Morita Yoshimitsu, which got recognized at the Montreal International Film Festival. He's also one of Johnny-san's favourites, which is why he was forgiven even though he caused a series of scandals in the past, and he was even allowed to shave his head. It seems Johnny approves of his wild character."

On the other hand, the ones who show most consideration for and are loyal to their fans, more then Jin or Kame, are Taguchi and Nakamaru. In the words of a certain journalist: "I was doing interviews on one of the sets for the programs that a lot of Juniors appeared in, at a time when the group hadn't been formed yet. Among the loud kids, Taguchi and Nakamaru were the only ones who were considerate. I called them out for a bit and talked to them. 'Ah, they don't dislike me.', they made me think, and 'I want them to be my sons.' I was healed by them." *laughs*

One could say that this difference in the appeal of KAT-TUN's members helps maintain their large fanbase. Without a doubt it is also true that Nakamaru holds the trust of all the members and is the solid backbone of the group.

Then there is Ueda who is thought to be strange, who has said himself "I want my girlfriend to be a nurse." and who often says things that can be interpreted as him wanting an older girlfriend who treats him like a child.

Of course, Kamenashi's and Akanishi's popularity are a great contributing factor to KAT-TUN's success

So i watched KAT-TUN on Music Station Super Live a few minutes ago.
It actually wasn't so bad i've heard some really cringing real faces even with jin but this one was ok-ish...of course they didn't do the kamexjin part in the beginning of real face (omg i loved that part...but only akame ), started off with the music and maru beatboxing.

Then who sang Jin's part?
junno and it sounded like someone else (maybe maru) either that or they played jins part in the background i am not sure~

when kame started to sing sounded like mike wasn't functioning at first plus the fangirls were trying to grab him he could barely get down the stairs....as the kt members walked thru the rows looked like some girls were trying to lunge at them to touch them

for those of you who might not like this real face because jin is not there don't worry its pretty short...sadly i don't think kat-tun can have a say in what they perform, because this song was number one they HAVE to perform it (lol it was probably decided once it got number one on the oricon year ) it would be interesting if they did le ciel xmas since it IS xmas....and not much choice with songs w/o jin if they performed way of love i would be so *

Bokura no Machi de was good of course..they did a good job singing it LIve~and junnos hair! ahhaha they look like they all got some new hairstyles (but not really?) I love kame's short hair.

well, the article is right but also wrong
without koki rapping, maru beat boxing, junno acrobatic skill, uebo 'mysterious' touch, KT isn't KT
but we can't ignore that akame is the one who make KT 'lived'
and they got the largest fanbases who support KT cause of them
its pretty clear how they try to survive without A
see bokura selling number now...
its highest in first week, but drop in next week
it just in my opinion...
on the first week its high cause everybody is curious what KT will be without jin
after that, its kinda predictable tat the selling will drop
we know rumors said some of KT fans boycott their singels
and lot of jin fans not buying that single...

for me, what they did until know is great
needs very high effort and high confidence for keep going without jin
(i believe they really know so well how jin roles between them, related on singing and music things)
they try to hang on, and i do appreciate them so much for that
as like they perform on Music Station, like kim said
im not watching it yet (but i believe in kim judgment )
its hard for them to singing RF without jin
and they trying their best to give the best for audience, specially their fans
this guys is more mature now and hopefully us, their fans, will be mature enough for supporting them...

actually for real face i don't think johnny lined up any other JE releases afterwards to ensure that KT would always sell first and there wouldn't be competition between the JE groups ($$$)

of course since this single isn't super important theres leeway for the other groups to sell their singles too

Week two was Kanjani8 Kanfuu Fighting
Week three is TegoMasu Miso Suupu

One Johnny per week and each at number one on oricon so its a lot of competition~ i would expect KAT-TUN to drop in order to make room for the rest of them of course everyone else who WANTS the single for sure buys it first week and only the people who can't decide whether to buy it or not MIGHT give in to it....not many...but yeah i say maybe like...20,000 for the next week...maybe less.

But yeah the music station live wasn't so bad i liked it won't lie.
I appreciate how they're trying very hard because its difficult to make up for jin...very difficult and i'm glad they didnt fall on their faces or something

I saw the vid! thanks manon-san for the link. Actually Junno looks not that bad in that hairstyle. But Kame looks so kawaii still regardless of what hairstyle he had...ok so maybe except for that once the very curly one. Ueda got prettier? Maru's hair got shorter and Koki's brighter. Haha, they all did their hair.

The real face didn't sound so bad and its seems the fans had almost been able to rip Kame. The rest of Kt members didn't have to walk thru that mass of fans but why Kame had to? Lucky there were quite a number of bodyguards there, lol Kame looks like he's gonna be 'rape' w/o the bodyguards, he even had to like stop singing for a while to get his balance back.
