Forcing herself to grow up: Lin Yi ChenThe Lin Yi Chen who is standing in front of me has joined the entertainment industry during her high school days, studying and working at the same time. 7 years now she not only becomes the Queen of the idol series, she even finished paying her big debts too.
Don’t be fooled by her doll like face, she is very mature and she already know what she is going to do since she is 18 years old. 90% of her income will be for her family, intend to get a bigger home, wanted to change her appearance, has lost about 8kg within this couple of months… likes to push herself to the limit and forcing herself to grow up fast. Listening to her thoughts, the Lin Yi Chen standing here seems to be living like an over forced patient.
A very busy Lin Yi Chen suddenly thought of getting married and having children! This should be one of the things that she has planned for her life. So no matter how honesty her tone was when she talks about it, it doesn’t seem to surprise me (the reporter) at all!
The TV series [TKA] which is currently airing, the story plot for the characters XiangQing and ZhiShu played by Lin Yi Chen and Zheng Yuan Chang was developed about their married life. During the interview, Lin Yi Chen has make it quite clear that she intended to get married, she said [This character is somehow very similar to me, bravely moving forward no matter what, very stubborn; I am considering myself as a person who would proceed bravely in both of my career and feelings.] See! When Lin Yi Chen talked about her views in feelings, she will be like in buy 1 free 1 mode. Her career and characteristics will be delivered in one package. Her level of efficiency is very good!
Firm with her familyThe forever proceed bravely, Lin Yi Chen is the eldest in her family. When asked whether she will be sending her brother to study in overseas university, I was shocked that she needs to think about it (the question) for quite a while. [I am really undecided at the moment, will he cherished it? He needs to know, he will go there by himself and he needs to get the professional certificate within 1 or 2 years. I am still considering about it; maybe I will loan the money to him with 0% interest rate.]
Lin Yi Chen analyzes herself very quickly too. [I am the kind of person where I will be very strict and tends to give a lot of pressure to myself and people around me. There are times where people who are closest to me will think that I am very cold hearted and cold blooded but I despise useless people including my brother. Even my mom felt it too, she really wanted to go to United States and that is why I forced her to learn English. Her eating habit is not that good and so is her stomach; so I would request her to deal with the matter probably and seriously.
Lin Yi Chen requested a lot from the people around her but actually she requested even more from herself. From [TKA] to going to mainland to film [LOCH], being laughed at as the [chubbiest HuangRong] ever by the China Medias, has totally lost about 8kg.
[Can only eat the foods that were cooked by water plus massages plus exercises, it was very hard because I love to eat. I don’t know, if you didn’t give it all in the task that you are trying on and just simply doing it and let is passed by like that, it seems very pointless to me. Anyway having been through the lost of my friend in this past 2 years, like Xu Wei Lun, who left us just like that, life is very fragile, I don’t have much time. If I overwork myself in everything that I do, I might be hurting myself but after I did it, I’ll feel very good about it. I’m ok with it. And I cannot be sure whether I will live until I am 70 years old; so I don’t want to just simply getting the job done.]
Tongue kiss; Mike HeHer well discipline characteristics don’t seems difficult not to spread into her love life. Ever since she has been in the entertainment industry, the [closest to truth] rumor will only be with Mike He. In 2005 both of them collaborated in [LC], was thought of acted out based on true feelings while filming the kiss scene under the water; sharing a tongue kiss hence having real feelings started to grow on each other. But later Mike He denies everything and said they are not in contact for a long time. Making Lin Yi Chen’s manager to be very furious about it; and the both of them are no longer in speaking terms. Not even talking to each other during the shooting of a commercial. [Still in contact with Xiao Mei?] I asked (the reporter) [No!] Lin Yi Chen’s answer was very straight forward indeed. [I won’t keep my distance just because I am having rumor with the lead actor because it will ruin my performance. I consider myself as a person who is willing to let loose. Xiao Zhong and I are like buddy buddy. I am very slow when it comes to rumor. I just thought that this is not the part that I should care about. Just let the media talks about it. I’m ok.]
[What I care about will be the truth of this very moment in time. It doesn’t matter it is love or friendship! When we are working together, you are truthful; and what happens after that, nobody could control and that is that.]
Married at the age of 30After filming so many onscreen relationships in the idol series; in real life, ever since Lin Yi Chen has separated with her senior, her love life has been empty for about 3 years now. When talked about her relationship target, the Lin Yi Chin that have coldly answering her [rumor with Mike He], has turned into a little girl. And keep on chattering without any sense of shame at all. [My plan will be: when I am 30 years old, I will be following my ‘LaoGong’ (husband) to study together in France.] And she laughed so loud after that. [And will have children there. Living in the town in France; and my mom will have a small farm. She wants to have pigs, plant flowers, mow lawn. Currently our house already has chickens and mice.]
Once she comes across the song [Ting Shuo Ai Qing Hui Lai Guo] (Heard That Love Has Returned) by Yang Zhong Wei and she hides in her room and cried. I couldn’t resist so I asked her which relationship that she is crying for. [One of the relationship in the future maybe! Currently I do have feelings for a certain person but doesn’t have time to develop. The most previous one (relationship) was 3 years ago. (Continue with her screaming) I almost thought about arranging for a blind date!]
[I just think that I shouldn’t be just like this anymore. I must make my move. Just like the character (XiangQing) and who knows I might have a sudden marriage in about 1 or 2 years!] She has plan out her life. Whatever things that she wants to do, she will put it in her notebook and her marriage of course will be her main target. [I am already 25 years old, when my mom was my age she was already pregnant with me. I’ve been thinking about what I am capable to do now, life cannot be just about one condition.]
Tong Wei; very hard workingDuring her high school days, she wanted to buy a computer for her brother. Lin Yi Chen participates in Jie Yun Teen Beauty Contest and won the title. The series that she was in, she gets to pair up with male actors like Mike He, WuZun, Zheng Yuan Chang who are very popular nowadays. Being called as Queen of the Idol Series due to her busy schedule, she has rejected to take part in [Hot Shot] and she is currently filming [LOCH] in Mainland; becoming the 6 generation of HuangRong.
[I wanted to try out different kinds of roles, roles that are less girly or spoiled.] Her mature consideration characteristics are totally different from those roles. [At the moment, the level of demand that she set for herself has move up from 85 to 90 and above. To me the childish image (Character Roles) that I have had since I’ve started out should be enough for me. I want to try something different and I could see that there are people who are more hard-working than me.] [Who?] I asked. (the reporter) [Tong Wei] she said. [I think, when you desire for something, like now I desire in movies, I would think about how to go to that path? First will have to make some changes to my appearance, when I was in HengDian, I would buy those movies magazines and I saw Tony Leung and other related casts and aware of the situation faces by the director Ang Lee. Then only I understand the intense competing about the whole incident. They (China’s artists) can’t accept roles if they did not graduate from this major. This is not my first time filming in China but I’m able to broaden my sight this time and improved my acting skills a lot.]
[I just came into the industry by a mere coincidence, since my high school days and my interest in acting is expanding; able to discover a lot of opportunities. I think that being an actor you really need to dig deep within yourself and it doesn’t mean that you will be happy and actually quite extreme too but that is the point because then only it is meaningful.]
[There is a friend of mine who is very passion in acting, that friend said to me, actually actor is very great task because actor is able to let viewers to see the deepest human behavior. The actor is assisting the director to act out the role. The director is even more remarkable. I did try out whether I have this capability or not but I am more of the expressing feelings type so I better just concentrate on being an actor. At least I get to help the director to act out the role.]
[HuangRong’s characteristics are very complete, able to have the chance to act this role is like a dream comes true to me, it’s the milestone that I have set for myself so after finished filming it I will be happy and continue with the next one. Her (HuangRong) interpersonal skill is just like mine. All my life will be evolve around my husband and then only expanding to the children. Actually she (HuangRong) don’t have many close female friends, me too. Even the one who shares the same year with me will be few.]
Purchase home; counting the detailsHer best friends in the entertainment industry include Xu Wei Lun (who has passed away) and Rainie Yang; the latter was the one who make the initiation first by asking for Lin Yi Chen’s telephone number. Both of them have to work to pay for their family’s debts. After they have known each other, their first topic was [What is the balance of your debts?] The previous year Lin Yi Chen has finally finished paying her debts. Rainie urged her to purchase an apartment at MuZha so that they could keep each other company but Lin Yi Chen said that [I like someway at Sun Yan Sen Memorial because I like the NY Bagles and Cheng Ping Dunnan Dian so I can only look for old apartment. Combine the 2 apartments or something.]
I was curious that the Queen of the Idol Series doesn’t have enough money to purchase apartments? She laughed awkwardly and said [I always thought that I am still a child and because my dream at this moment is about getting a new home. And last year’s the price for the housing estate is not very good. I always intended to buy a bigger home, keep on thinking about my room and then only I realized that I’ll soon be married and will be living with my ‘LaoGong’ (husband). How can I have a new apartment of my own? But I’ve decided to buy a new home for my family so I still have a home to go when I want to visit my family (her mother). I intend to buy a 70 or 80 pyeong (around 2846.88 square feet) apartment/house. I could even ask my grandma to move in too.]
Still believe she is still a child but she’s already a full grown person. Hearing Lin Yi Chen talking about housing estate, giving her 90% income to her family and 10% income for herself, investing part of it… other than herself, who dares to say she is still a child?
Draining herselfThe day of the interview, Lin Yi Chen wake up at 4:30am and took the plane back to Taipei, but when we finished with the interview it was already 1:30am (already the next day). After that she will have a 7am notice, a conference in the afternoon and a recording in the TV studio later at night. Then the very next day, she will need to take an early flight back to Mainland again. This is because the new series in Mainland will be having a conference too… Since she has the opportunity to come back to Taiwan, her grandma has prepared a table full of dishes for her to eat. Lin Yi Chen quickly spares about 20minutes for her grandma for a quick family reunion and rushed towards here to do the interview.
Just like draining all the juice from a sugar cane and Lin Yi Chen didn’t says she’s tired at all. She even said she’s born to work throughout her whole life and her body is used to it already. Long working hours in Taiwan are already a well known fact around the world, when I see Lin Yi Chen, can’t help to know that this is another type of miracle in Taiwan!
