On Joe's hairstyle, I think he looks good whether long or short, just a different image/appeal. Despite what he said about being 25 and can't go on acting cute, etc. I think he can still pull it off if need to. I think he's quite versatile even tho' some say his roles in Summer and ISWAK are quite similar.

I've not watched Magic Ring but I'm just curious: I understand that he has a "hot" scene in this drama as well. How does the narrated "hot" scene in Guam in ISWAK Sequel compare to it? Did Joe make any comment on his bed scene in Magic Ring?

I did watch Magic Ring, in fact I bought the vcd for it. There weren't really that much "hot"scenes but it does have a lot of kissing scenes between Joe and Xia Yu Qiao. It's acutally quite hot too, not just simple kissing but a lot of forceful kisses. You should watch it, it's quite good. but Joe's acting is so different now. He screams a lot in MR, or maybe it's his character.

yeah indeed he changed alot.. his speech and the way he carry himself is so much diff.. he is not very good in translating so much of the script in MR i personally feel.. but as of now ISWAK he improved tremendously i mus say

In "Magic Ring" that Joe is over acting too much. May be that is problem with the director real did not know what Joe can do. But that is way too over the top for me. The show itself is pretty normal, nothing special about it.

And you can check it again. He really usually wears very simple clothes, very normal, unlike some artists always wear abnormal clothes and love to show their chest. The focus on ISWAK 2 is on how Joe Cheng and Ariel Lin manage their lives after marriage. To Joe whose parents have been apart since young, he had no prior experience to learn from, hence making it challenging for him when it came to fleshing out his character.

Joe says, during his childhood, he was very stubborn and reliant on his mother. Once when he woke up to find his mother not around, he even spoiled a sofa by kicking it; and when he once wet his pants in school, he refused to let his teacher change it for him. insisting that his teacher call his mother down to help him change.

But when his parents divorced when he was in primary 3, due to his father having to work, his sister and him depended on each other alot. He says that children can never understand the world of adults, at the start, he found it embarrassing not to have a mother, telling lies in school, saying that his mother was a tour guide hence often not at home. For quite a long while, being prevented from seeing his mother, his sister and him used to contact her secretly.

Right now, looking back at his parents' unhappy marriage, Joe says that between a man and woman, there isn't anyone besides the two of them with the right to say anything. To him, his dad is still his dad, his mom, still his mom. When he turned 18, he decided to live his life on his own terms, striking a deal with his father, he moved up north to taipei from taichung to work and lived with his mother. Now, his parents are both his superfans, and family is still his greatest pillar of support whenever he is down.

i had a fren who was talking kinda alot abt this drama when it was released and how hot he is and all.. but i didn't really pay much attention..(Sorry fren..lol..) .. until now.. when satellite tv started showing it..and since i'm on holiday.. i started watching..after teh first eps.. i couldn't bear with one eps a day.. i borrowed teh whole drama set frm anotehr fren and marathoned it in 5 days!!..lol..

gotta say it again.. joe chen is really good!! he's acting's not tat bad either.. i'd say quite good...hehe..

a RARE GLIMPSE of how and what is JOE as a person....

After I had begun acting for more than a year, I cancelled my contract with my company. At that time, I was trying to live quietly, out of the limelight but each day, there would be news published on me. Once, for 5 days consecutively, the headline in every entertainment magazine would feature me and write on how arrogant I had become and that I was playing the ‘diva’ i.e. being willfully temperamental because of my huge ego. The paparazzi even had a copy of my university results and wrote on my absence from exams and poor results. How did they obtain this information? They knew my matriculation number, my identity card number and even information about me that I would have to think hard to remember. It was obvious to me who had given them this information.

Why did I have this fall out with the company? I am very clear about my reasons. It was because I did not want to become a person with no opinions and no independent thoughts. That would be unbearable. At that time, the company arranged for me to appear in the TV show ‘Happy Sunday’ (Taiwanese variety show). They asked me to pretend to be good friends with the main compere, 曾志偉. But I wasn’t and he was a stranger to me. I made my feelings known to the company and they decided to allow me to appear on the show as a newbie who admired him as a senior in the industry. I was satisfied with that but two days later, I was informed that I was no longer required to appear on the show. Then it was my birthday party. The company wanted my fans to buy the paraphernalia of ‘Nine Ball’ before they could attend. I queried this, why couldn’t they enter just on the basis of being my fans?!!

At that time, I expressed my opinions directly and bluntly. The end result was that my contract was cancelled. The newspapers reported on the verbal war of words between me and the company. I told myself that time would prove me right / innocent. In a way, I was grateful because the incident helped me to grow up quickly. Within a short span of time, I gained knowledge and realization about many things. This profession made me mature quickly.

When I was filming my first serial ‘The Rose’, I was afraid of nothing. I faced everything courageously and where possible, laughed til my mouth felt like it would split and I cared nothing for my image. But now I feel that acting is my life’s career and that there are some things I must spend time to cultivate, to mould/craft. This is my life, I will not treat it as a joke and I will not be willful. I believe people are basically unformed; only with the right training and education can they grow well. I also hope to become a role model for my fans as a lot of my fans are young students. When I saw how much they were willing to do for me eg. do charitable works in my name, I then realized how powerful an influence I could exert over them.

A lot of people will say that I have changed. But there is one thing about me that I know has not changed and that is that I will still honestly & courageously face what I need to as an actor. Like gossip. Actually, if the media want to write gossip about me, it’s okay and I can accept that. I just can’t accept gossip that would hurt my family. Of course this does not mean that the media can write anything they like about me or shoot any photos they like of me. Aiyoh, actually what I am most concerned about is whether the photo will turn out ugly or not lah!.

sad yet impressive ain't it?....no words for me no words on how DEEP of a CHARACTER JOE has....and the way he values FAMILY?....his family?....*me shakes head*....

I: when your parents first learnt of your job, did they agree to it?
J: my parents were worried. My father is very traditional. He felt that modeling was not a traditional male job. Mother did not think the job suited me either. In their thinking, I am most suited to be an office worker with a stable job and income. So at first they did not support but neither did they object. They probably were not too happy about it. Sometimes they would grumble, why are you in this career. Once I had a little success in modeling, they changed from not supportive to being quietly encouraging. Now my father is my unofficial ‘manager’ at home. My father is a traditional, honest man. Sometimes when fans come visit my home, he would act like a tour guide. Many of my father’s colleagues have asked for my autograph.
