I recently rewatched HZGGI, I honestly say I love Vicki's acting in it even though she was kind of new back then. I can't believe it's been so many years since HZGG broadcasted. I also started listening to some of her old songs and her singing has improved much since then. I can't believe she's already 31 and she doesn't look like it. I thought she was still in her late 20's. I guess it has been really long since HZGGI. But HZGG1 is still such a good drama. the third sequel just ruined it. Vicki played xiao yan zi so well. I didn't like Fast Track Love as much, but her acting was okay. Definitely can't wait for her new album to come out.

you should watch moment in peking and thank you for having loved me
she has improved in acting even more than her singing

Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival 2007 showing 《夜。上海》The Longest Night in Shanghai on October 22 and 23, 2007〔转载自:LVHIFF 2007〕

Chinese director, Yibai Zhang, assembles a talented international cast for a modern romantic dramedy that illustrates the universal power of love. World-weary Japanese make-up artist/stylist Naoki Mizushima, (Masahiro Motoki of "Sumo Do, Sumo Don't"), is at the top of his field. Although Mizushima is a famous beauty expert, his personal life, including a stalled and indifferent romance with his assistant (Naomi Nishida of "Train Man"), is far from pretty. While in Shanghai on business, Mizushima literally collides with seemingly tough taxi driver Lin Xi (Vicky Zhao of "Shaolin Soccer"). Lin Xi has her own share of emotional problems, largely stemming from a secret unrequited crush on her mechanic (Taiwan heartthrob Dylan Kuo).

Over the course of a single night, Lin Xi taxis Mizushima throughout the luminous city in an attempt to locate his hotel, of which he has forgotten the name. Meanwhile, Mizushima's colleagues (including Japanese comedic actor Naoto Takenaka and Hong Kong's Sam Lee) comb Shanghai to find him. Despite a language barrier, which fuels several comic misunderstandings, Mizushima and Lin Xi forge a meaningful relationship over the long night. Together, can they learn to understand and express the love they are capable of?

Yes, it's an international premier & I get to see it! Too bad she's not coming. But we get to see Joan Chen, another China star.

Upcoming plans:

According to Chen Rong's messages to Zhao Wei fans:

- Vicky finally finished filming the "Battle of the Red Cliff". She was supposed to finish this film during the summer but the director extended her role and so her upcoming plans/events have been pushed back.

- Movies: these are still not confirmed yet (eventually by December 1) because they are still negotiating:
(1) Painted Skin: Zhao Wei, Zhou Xun, Chen Kun, Donnie Yen, and Qi Yuwu
This is a martial arts movie, and production will start in December.
(2) Women are Not Bad: Zhao Wei, Zhou Xun, directed by Tsui Hark
It is said that Tsui Hark highly anticipates for Zhao Wei's participation and has mentioned Zhao Wei's cooperation in this movie a while ago but nothing has been officially confirmed.

Big news!!!!

According to MBOX today, December 1 2007:

Zhao Wei, Zhou Xun and Chen Kun have agreed to star in Painted Skin. The press release will be on December 4! It is an ancient movie with a combination of horror and fantasy cinematography in it. It will be produced by a HK director with the support from China, HK, and Singapore.

Originally Fan Bing Bing was suppose to be a part of this movie but later was dropped due to "promotional issues" (don't know what this means), and Zhou Xun was invited to replace her. Afterward, Zhao Wei and Chen Kun were privately approached to sign onto this film. News about the casts wasn't suppose to be leaked out to the public until December 4, however, Qi Yuwu (another actor also in this movie) revealed to the reporters that he will star in Painted Skin alongside Zhao Wei and Zhou Xun. That was when rumors started circulating. However, since MBOX officially declared Zhao Wei's participation today, I hope everything is true!!

Upcoming events:

December 4: Beijing Press Conference for "Painted Skin" with Zhou Xun, Chen Kun
December 8: Beijing-Charity Banquet with Wang Fei, Li YaPeng
December 9: Lycra Channel Young Fashion Gala

News are from zhaowei-international and MBOX.

It was rumored early on that Donnie Yeun will be in this movie, but nothing is confirmed yet until December 4 at the press conference. According to Chen Rong's message (Vicky's manager) Vicky signed onto a new movie that is suppose to be done by Lunar New Year, but the production specifically did not want to disclose about Vicky's participation until the press release, that is why Cheng Rong has been keeping Vicky's schedule very quiet.

However suddenly Qi Yuwu told reporter that Zhao Wei will be starring in Painted Skin alongside Zhou Xun. And this morning MBOX also confirmed this news. So if everything is true then Vicky should be participating in this movie.

Cheng Rong also released a statement saying that Vicky also signed another contract to do another movie at the beginning of 2008 (I'm thinking that it's Women are Not Bad), but the production also wanted everything to kept private until the press conference however there are strong speculations that Vicky is going to be in this movie because early on the director of this film hinted that he looks forward to working with Vicky for his new movie. Cheng Rong also hinted that we might be expecting a drama series from Vicky in 2008 however this is not confirmed.

Right now, Vicky will be busy promoting her new music album by going to Taiwan, and Singapore (however this might be pushed back because Vicky signed onto a new movie). She also has to do another MV. Yalu also wants to shoot new ads and commericial. She also must attend a charity with Faye Wong and her husband, and Vicky is also expected to attend the Lycra award ceremony.

Sorry I only have that much information. However, let's wait until until Dec 4 to see if all the rumors are true or not.

Chinese directors to announce new films at Cannes

BEIJING, May 11 -- Five renowned Chinese directors -- Stanley Kwan, Hark Tsui, Wong Kar-wai, Ann Hui and Stephen Chow -- are expected to announce their new film plans at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival in May.

The Shanghai Morning Post reports that an award-winning media service, J.A. Media, is planning to fund all these directors' new projects.

The total investment would reach several hundred million yuan, and Stanley Kwan's Bruce Lee biopic alone is expected to exceed 100 million yuan.

Also in the spotlight is Hong Kong director Hark Tsui's modern comedy with a Chinese name - literally translated as "Women Are Not Bad." A-list Chinese actresses like Zhou Xun, Zhao Wei and Xu Jinglei are top candidates for roles in the comedy.

Director Hark Tsui will invite top South Korean screenwriter Jae-young Kwak to write Chinese and South Korean versions of the movie.

Meanwhile, Wei Dashen, the general manager from the Star Overseas Film Company told Shanghai Morning Post that Stephen Chow cannot attend Cannes this year. However, his partner, director Stephen Fung will attend the festival, announcing a new movie plan.

Painted Skin updates:

Unlike the prior version of this movie, this time the movie will have four main characters, Chen Kun, Donnie Yeun, Zhao Wei and Zhou Xun.

The movie will focus on the demise of the scholar Wang (Chen Kun) when he meets the beautiful ghost (Zhou Xun) and also the secret love story between the scholar's wife (Zhao Wei) and his brother (Donnie Yen).

According to writters from the staff the love story is something like this:

While scholar Wang is misled by the ghost, Wang's wife could only suffer silently. But his brother will come to comfort her. Wang's brother realizes how kind, and gentle Wang's wife is, but because of ethical constraints he could not express his love for her. He could only love her secretly.

This big budget movie of about US$10 million will be directed by Gordon Chan.

This is a surprise to me...I initially thought Vicki would be paired up with Chen Kun in this, but now it sounds like she's paired with Donnie, which is just as well because I was hoping they'll pair up! laugh.gif

First Person: Zhao Wei

by Glori Ye on Fri, 2006-10-27 12:00

Actress Zhao Wei was recently named one of People Magazine’s ‘World’s 100 Most Beautiful People.’ The beauty first made a name for herself in the TV series Pearl Princess, before building an unstoppable reputation in China’s entertainment industry riding a raft of awards for TV, film, music and fashion. She is, undoubtedly, a big shot. Last week, she came to our city as an ambassador for the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games, to be held in Shanghai. Glori Ye is charmed.

It’s really an honor for me to be the ambassador for the Special Olympics and I really admire these disabled people. They’ve overcome so many difficulties, mental and physical, to reach their goal. We should support them, even if it’s just by saying something to encourage them.

I went to a special school for disabled children this morning and played games with them. Their lives didn’t depress me - on the contrary, they gave me strength to keep going. I am very glad there is a special sports event for them and that it’s my duty to spread the word.

I am enthusiastic about charity. I have established my own scholarship fund over the past three years for poor students and teachers. One story really impressed me: a teacher who receives money from the fund recently won a China’s Best Teachers Award, and she just donated the prize money back into the fund. I am really touched by that. The fund accepts donations from everyone. I see it as just a part of my job. I don’t plan to cooperate with big companies because I’m not a business person.

I will be acting in Japan this November, playing a nurse in an independent film. I have also secured a place at the Beijing Film Academy as a graduate student, majoring in directing. I appreciate being given this opportunity very much.

From now on I will seize any chance during shooting to learn how to actually make films. My graduate work will be a film directed by myself, so I need to gain as many skills as possible.

I don’t make very many public appearances these days due to my busy schedule. I have to both study and work. Now it’s time for me to plant. I will wait for the harvest time.

The Golden Eagle TV Awards are fast approaching. This was the first big prize that I won in television. I think this year’s Golden Eagles will be very exciting because there are so many good series up for awards in the competition.

People are always talking about my age, but to me, it’s not the most important issue.

I really grew up a lot during my years in the entertainment industry. But my experience is that when I’m in a good mood I feel young, while bad moods make me feel old.

Vicki is so smart! I love her to death and she'll always be my number 1!! She's so awesome and deserves the best of everything! You watch her in press conferences, interviews, etc and she always has something funny to say to make people laugh. She's not like other actresses that are "empty vases" and just sit there to look pretty. Vicki is beautiful and she has the personality! Gosh...the lucky guy, if she ever gets one, better appreciate her or us fans are going to be mad! Haha! I sound like a lesbo but I'm not. lol.

I can't believe that two of her ex bfs cheated on her! People like that don't deserve anybody! And the people that they cheated on her with were UGLY!!
MelonieMellyMel
This is old news, but I'm sure that many fans still enjoy it!

The idol series [God of Cars] gave the audience a whole new fresh feeling when the sunshine-like Lu Yi and vibrant Zhao Wei cooperated once again. While Zhao Wei and Lu Yi were promoting this newly released series yesterday, everyone was enthralled by the youthful and attractive hunks and hotties, breathtaking summer seashore scenery and the lightning-speed swift race screened in the ten-minute preview.

Before the press conference, the media photographed for 15 minutes nonstop. The glamorous Zhao Wei, in an elegant and graceful black gown, seized all attention. Upon the reporter’s request, Zhao Wei and Lu Yi openly embraced together, reviving the charming and joyful couple from the series.

Due to [Moment in Peking]’s exceedingly popularity and her exceptionally outstanding acting and singing performance this year, the 20 minutes group interview for the cast became more of an interview especially with Zhao Wei. Zhao Wei not only answered each and every question in an amiable manner, but also guided An YiXuan and other actors to respond, exuding the calm aura and wisdom of ‘Yao Mulan’ in her liveliness.

Zhao Wei sincerely apologized to Lu Yi yesterday. It seemed that while filming one of the scenes in the movie, Zhao Wei slapped Lu Yi when she was crying. As her emotions were devoted to the role, Zhao Wei took Lu Yi by surprise as she raised her hand and slapped him on the face with a clean sound. Zhao Wei only realized that she slapped too hard and wounded him when she saw the shocked expression on Lu Yi’s face.

During the second take, as Zhao Wei raised her hand, Lu Yi quickly moved away to avoid being slapped too hard, leaving Zhao Wei on camera by herself, not knowing whether she should laugh or cry. As for the love affair rumors spread by the Hong Kong media, Zhao Wei keenly protested: “Who can have any love affair rumors with him! Lu Yi is a new good guy who always puts his family first. It’s surprising that there are such rumors, so I don’t even bother to refute their claims.”

As for returning to shooting TV series, especially when such series happened to be the works of an influential producer, Zhao Wei frankly expressed that she would always carefully select every film or series that she accept to perform in: “I am actually quite an earnest person. I don’t take my work lightly, so it is hard even if people would want to watch something bad from me.”

Zhao Wei revealed that she would watch [Moment in Peking] whenever she stayed at home. Regarding the modification in plot which brought about criticisms, Zhao Wei expressed that she rather enjoyed the lightness and eruditeness of the original novel. However, the plot adaptation is understandable because adapting it into a TV series acquired there to be more conflicts and thrills, otherwise the audience may be soothed to sleep.

While many famous actresses continually accepted new works to perform in, Zhao Wei was busy with the entrance examination for the Master degree for the faculty of director. “The examinations are yet to be completed. This is not something I can simply attend. I will be diligent and hardworking as learning is a never-ending process.”

Zhao Wei then whined like a little girl to the reporters: “Now, I am having a very bad headache because I have to study a lot of books and the exam is just two weeks away. I’m very nervous! Please don’t write about this yet… if I can’t pass the entrance exam, it will be too embarrassing for me.” At this moment, Zhao Wei had a naïve and pure smile on her face.

*gosh...the HK media always comes up with the most rumours about ppl. i mean, sorry about this (just because he's married) but when i found out that they were rumoured together (even if it was just a rumour) i was like "omg! really!! yay!! woohooo!!", but of course it's just rumours. grunt*
GF33
Melly, thank you for the news. you seem to be a very loyal fan of Zhao Wei.
I love her too, she is one of very few idols that I really like.
In some of the recent pictures, I think I see marks of aging in her face though.
MelonieMellyMel
oh, you're welcome, GF33! of course i'm her loyal fan! it's funny because i'm not even Chinese and i surely don't live in China. lol. i love her not just because of her looks (which she is beautiful with just that), but because of her personality. you can see it in her interviews, press conferences, etc. and yes, she does seem to be aging, but everybody has to start someday! she still looks beautiful for her age, though and just because other celebs aren't aging as much and they're older than her doesn't mean anything to me at all. everybody is different, and she's still beautiful no matter what!!
GF33
I agree with you. I like her after watching Princess Pearl (is the name correct?) because she was so cute back then, but now I like her because of her personality, her intelligence. There are not many artists like her around. so like you said, no matter how she looks, I will continue supporting her.
btw, I know many people like vicky, I wonder why this thread is so quiet, unlike those in Hong Kong and Taiwan entertaiments sections ? Perhaps publicity of Chinese artists is not as much as others'?

And I'm not chinese either, I don't understand mandarin, but I still listen to her songs, I haven't managed to find Angel's suitcase though.

MelonieMellyMel
Yeah, this thread is REALLY quiet compared to other pages. Like I don't see how Rainie Yang would be more popular than Vicki. Rainie is already on her 5th or 6th part. I'm not sure, maybe it's because a lot of younger kids (just on AF) watch her and like her. But if everyone in the world were to get on AF, I'm sure that this thread would be a lot faster than most. lol.

I bought Angel's Suitcase on yesasia.com if you want to see about that.

I don't see how anybody could not like Vicki Zhao. My brother doesn't (he's just stupid XD) and he can't come up with a good reason why. Jeeze...Vicki haters need to get a clue!

Vicki is due to film movies, and drama in March of 2008, then promotion of her latest movie "Red Cliff"

Vicki is nominated for Best Supporting Actress at this year HongKong Film Award, she might attend the award ceremony this year. Beside that, Vicki also is the new spoke person for Marie France Bodyline and here are some billboard pictures

Thanks for all the news updates vivitaki, she really has been very busy lately, and she is showing no signs of slowing down...I hope she doesn't stress herself too much.
She looks absolutely stunning in those images!

And it's also good to know she has renewed her contract with Marie France...she was a spokesperson for that slimline back in 2003 I think.
MelonieMellyMel
WOW! Thanks for the updates, vivitaki! She looks gorgeous in those pics, I mean, the girl looks like she's 21, not 31! But that's good, because she has the body and looks of a 21 year old, while her mind and intellegence is that of a 31 year old. She's beautiful!! I can't wait to see how she does in the HK Film Awards, I bet she'll do just fine. And I agree with Crystal, I hope that she doesn't overwork herself!! But she's strong, so I doubt she will.

Ok, even though this isn't about Vicki, it's still on Painted Skin so I just thought that I would share.

Painted Skin is wrapping up on Feb 2 or so and the production is currently spending two weeks to shoot the finale. Sun Li's role, as well as more of the plot, has been revealed. She comes from a family of exorcists and it's her onus to get rid of the fox vixen Zhou Xun. However, she's a bumbling neophyte with mediocre skills and nobody believes a word when she says that there is a fox spirit for she lacks concrete evidence, even though she has a demon detector. Sun Li also provides comic relief. While she carries an arsenal of talismans and magical devices with her all the time, finding the right item at the right time to deal with demons is a challenge.

The plot appears to be slightly different from what was previously said. Sun Li's grandfather was killed by fox spirit Zhou Xun. And she has been tracking her down in order to seek revenge. She finds out that Zhou Xun has been bewitching general Chen Kun. While warrior Donnie Yen, who's been carrying a torch for Chen Kun's wife Vicky Zhao, doesn't believe in demons, he still helps Sun Li deal with Zhou Xun. Gradually, Sun Li develops feelings for Donnie Yen. However, they later make an even more shocking discovery...

Being a non-martial artist, Sun Li's in a whirl when it comes to action scenes. She's uncertain of how to execute the moves, and to connect the moves with the expression in her eyes and on her face. She's glad to have Donnie Yen guiding her, "He would help me design what kind of reaction I should have after finishing a move, my gestures in between two moves, and ensure that what I do won't get cut away by the director."

Donnie Yen says that his character in Painted Skin not only fights well, but he's given ample space relating to drama. He would ponder over how his character gesticulates, in order to better demonstrate his personality and status. He believes the audience would see a different Donnie Yen in this film.

Once, Donnie Yen had a close shave when filming a wirework scene in which he saves a damsel in distress on a rooftop at the height of 4m. Donnie Yen felt something was amiss and signalled to the director to ensure that everything was in order. Meanwhile, a stunt double went up to try it out for Donnie Yen. When he was mid-air, the wire snapped and he dropped onto the ground, missing the mattress, and broke his knee. It shocked everyone on the set and the stunt double was rushed to the hospital. Donnie Yen mumbled repeatedly, "Wirework is too risky. Too risky" The accident sends chills down his spine. He says that when doing wirework, one won't know when anything would happen. It's very scary. In the past few years, whenever he's the action director, he would try his best to avoid the use of wires in his pursuit of realism.

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've been here. Does anyone know what Vicki's upcoming movie project(s) is/are? I know she's currently working on A Woman's Epic, but I also heard that she has a new movie scheduled soon? Does anyone know about this?

A Woman's Epic is a drama in which she plays a pyschologist (or therapist) and co-starring with her is Liu Ye (from Curse of the Golden Flower).

^Oh, really?! Well, I want to see her in it! I bet that she would play the role well, as she does with every other role, because she has that gentleness that she can display.

Happy 32rd Birthday Vicki! yeah.gif

Can't believe she's 32 already! She still looks younger than her age, so radiant and beautiful in those images.

If I remember correctly, just 3 more months till BotRC! I'm slowly counting down the months and days, I'm very excited about this movie...as well as 'Painted Skin'.

Thanks for the updates melonstar, keep up the good work wink.gif
