I don't think they sound that bad at all. Sometimes, they used english correctly in the songs.

ya i think sometimes it's cool when they use english in the songs, cuz it's somehow more appropriate and sounds better (i can't imagine the songs sung with some of those english phrases in chinese)
wut i don't like however is when they can't even pronounce it... like with Joey Yung or Boy'Z in each of their versions of My Pride... gawd that was rather unbearable.

Well... I think it's cute actually

Japanese songs has a lot of English in it lol. I just find Japlish really entertaining. Their grammar is really funny

Japanese are the worst out of all Asian countries when it comes to English lol. Sometimes I wonder if they even know what they are saying

I guess sometimes it works.... Jolin Tsai has a bit of english in her songs sometimes like Mr Q and you can kinda tell what she's on about.. but like I was listening to Step You by Ayumi Hamasaki and her english is really bad.. so it kinda depends how fluent your english is I s'pose.. Jolin's english isn't great, but it sounds OK...

I like english in asian songs because I can understand those parts and I find it really cute(when it's a guy). But also it depends how it's used. I mean.. they should practice first before recording.. it's kinda embarassing for the consumers who know english to see how poor their idol's english is sometimes. Also for artists like Edison Chen and Wang Lee Hom their fluent english is important because it can set them apart from the other artists. They have the skills so might as well use them to their advantage. Also english usage may be very appealing to their fan base that don't speak english. Basically.. I like it and it's nice.
I prefer it. It helps me understand the songs better. I mean, I listen to songs by some artsist who sing a language that I don't speak, like Mandarin, but if they had English in it, it makes it easier to understand

It sounds ok if it suits the song, but most times english is unnecessary as it adds nothing to the overall song.

I think some artists can get away with having English words in their songs and I usually prefer having them sing short phrases of English rather than singing a paragraph of it. Sometimes their accents are cute but other times it's quite dreadful.

BWAHAHAHHA! That was brilliant! hehe.hehehehe. It was cute, actually... especially since I think he (and the rest of the Japanese audience) had no idea what he was singing...!
Personally, I think they should sing phrases in English rather than throwing in one verb or one noun... and hoping it fits with the song (like make it part of a bridge or a line in the chorus or something)....
On the whole though, I like it because it gives me a 'marker' when I look up lyrics (especially in languages I can't read).

If they can pronounce the english correctly then it's alright, but it seems a lil "tryhard" to put english in asian songs if you can't even say the words properly and just wanna seem "cool" cos there's english in your song.

I don't mind if they use english in asian songs as long as it's used correctly and actually sounds like english (doesn't have to be perfect perfect with the accent and stuff but understandable and doesn't sound weird). I always hear some english used in rap in k-pop and c-pop and it sounds alright to me.

It depends on the song and the singer too. If the singer cannot pronouce the words properly for the listeners to at least know what they are singing, then please don't try using english.

Depends... it's good if:
1. The singer can pronounce the words properly.
2. It makes sense.
Seriously though, it annoys the hell out of me when some chinese singers try to sing english when they have TERRIBLE pronunciation! Well there are some exceptions, of course.. e.g. Joey xD She doesn't have great english, but her voice at least makes up for it, I suppose..~

English lyrics are okay if there is one phrase. For example, "Forever Love," "Shall We Talk," "You Were Part of My Life," etc. All one phrase in the song.
In Hong Kong, Joey Yung needs to stop with the English in her songs. She is probably the singer with the most songs containing English lyrics. She should've stopped once the her song "Summer Holiday" came out. I seriously thought she was saying "hit the b*tch in the sunshine" when she was really saying "hit the beach in the sunshine." Her song "My Pride" is undoubtely a great song, but the English lyrics that kill it.
"See me fly, I'm proud to fly up high" + the horrible pronounciation = WHAT THE HECK???
I have to disagree with Blaaaaah, no matter how good your voice is, it will not make up for almost saying "b*tch* instead of "beach."
Keeping it short and simple is okay, going for a sentence is too much. I am obviously not listening to Chinese songs for the English.

Bad English in Asian songs pisses me off, don't sing it if you can't pronounce it!
But when it's done right, it can be really good. Janice for example, uses it well in all of her songs.

most of the time it gets kinda annoying and makes the song sound more fobby. like Kelly's Most Loved Concert...great song but the english part was really random (sweating hands, soda cans, marching band? WTH??? lol).
but sometimes if its used properly (and pronounced properly, haha) it can sound pretty good. i love the english parts in Utada Hikaru songs

the use of english in asian songs is okay, if and only if it makes grammatical sense and the pronounciation of the words are decent. otherwise it just takes you out of a song and all you can focus on is the awful engrish.
that anson hu/se7en song is an example "and want you know" of bad english usage, the pronounciation isn't bad.

I like english in asian songs, only if it sounds good in the song, and the artist knows wat it means. Oh and they also have to sound good while they speak english. Otherwise i got no problem with english in asian songs. It brings other cutlure in the music.

I think it sounds silly and it's unnecessary. How often do we hear English songs
featuring snippets of other language including Chinese or Cantonese ? I don't think
I have come across any.
In my opinion, it doesn't add any value to the song. If it's a good piece of composition
there is no need for it.
It actually gives me goosebumps hearing it .... I wonder what would the reaction
be for westerners actually to hear that.

Janice and Leehom are examples of people who can pronounce it pretty much dead on. But with Janice, some of her english song lyrics are horrid and cheesy. I'm sure she knows it as well but doesn't have the authority to bring forth any changes.
I love her My Love My Fate song, just a touch of english in a chinese song, ups the romantic level way up there.
Same goes for mixing in mandarin into cantonese songs, do it right and it goes a long way.

i can't stand it when it's used incorrectly and when the pronunciation is horrible
examples
1. dbsk - purple line : "i really wanna touch myself"
seriously? who wrote that piece?
2. big bang - haru haru: all the things that gd said at the beginning and the end
3. super junior - don't don: all the english parts
i would rather listen to a song and not understand it than listen to horrible english

i think is pretty funny some times when they try to same some thing in english it comes out totally wrong from example in one of the Big Bang song Haru Haru where in the eng G Dragon said "your my heart" but they came out like "you my her"...and i love that song and MV but it was funny and i don't really mind it

actually in filipino music, an artist being able to sing in english is not that surpirsing.

I don't mind english line in asian songs,at all. In every songs I've heard so far (k-pop that is)

I think it's fine if they want to have certain parts in their songs. Sometimes I find it amusing that they use English though because it isn't like people start singing in Chinese, Japanese or Korean in their songs. But, I really do like it because those are usually the parts I sing best in.

Feb 8 2009 1 38 PM
I don't really mind. Well that's cause most of the music I listen to has either a small phrase, or it's the song title that's in english.
Plus, what's funny is when I listen to it at school, and my friends know I rarely listen to english music anymore, and they say, "Omgsh WAS THAT IN ENGLISH?" I understood that! haha so it kinda helps I guess if you do not speak that certain language. So I dont mind.
Besides, I really cant imagine hearing "I got you ~ under my skin." In Korean, or Japanese, or Chinese for that matter. LOL

it's a hard question cause it depends on who's singing what and what the song is about.
I can say that I rather hear the songs on the right languages but that doesn't mean I disslike the english ones.
I think they are much good as the orginals.
Okey, I can admit that it's a bit annoying then the singers really can't speak english , everything feels so strange and not right at all.
Sometimes I believe it's kinda cute although xD how they try to make it sound ok !
you just go awwww... *_* <333
So my answer to the question is rather good.
It's a bit annoying sometimes, good sometimes but mostly cute actually !

LOL without the English parts I probably wouldn't be able to sing some of the songs I listen to. I'm fine with it as long as it's grammatically correct. I cringe whenever it's wrong. Even that Nobody song where they pronounce is as "chu" instead of "you".
