"'Cause he's so elusive, and I'm so in love with him and I'm so glad I never met him - I'd be terrified! My brother-in-law met him. He was at a party in LA about 15 years ago and he was talking to this really cool guy. They had shared a joint and after he left, everyone came up to my brother-in-law and said, 'How do you know Bob?' and he said, 'Bob, who?' He thought he was talking to the gardener!" Gibson: 'my Movies Aren't That Violent'.... Filmmaker Mel Gibson has dismissed claims his movies are excessively violent, insisting they only appear that way because of their detailed characterisation.

Gibson, whose controversial projects include The Passion Of The Christ and his new Apocalypto, lays the blame with Hollywood product starring action heroes such as Jean-Claude Van Damme.

He says, "Everybody likes to beat up on me for the violence but I think people think it's more violent because I fool them into caring for the characters.

"When it matters, when they give a s**t, it seems more violent. When you're watching Jean-Claude whatever his name is, you don't give a s**t. If you watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 4, you don't care about the pimply teenager on the meathook because you don't know who he is."

i have to agree with him, i dont think his movies are that violent at all. i simply love his movies, they are very, how shall we say, emotional and you know that he put a lot of time and effort into it.

he makes us fall in love with the characters, and when he kills them, we cry and hate him for it. not many directors like to kill off the main character because probably they might think about a sequal for more money. but mel, he likes to end it with a shock to the system. i like that.

Regardless of the "gore" in his films, I'm all for it if the story is hella good. I'm dying to see Apocalypto! Heck! I just finished learning about the Mayan people!

And, I agree with everything he's saying. Gosh people are WAY too sensitive.
